[BUG] Bug and Dragon: Rediamond vs. Texas. [Completed]

"Ah, another beautiful day today. Nora, what's the mail have to say today."

"Let's see...uh looks like there's a letter here from the Gym Committee. Apparently they will approve you if you referee this match with Texas and Rediamond."

"Oh, so that's how I'm supposed to get the job, curry favor with the higher ups by doing favors for them. I get it. When is it then?"

"Uhm, I don't think that's how it works. Pretty sure it's just a coincidence Texas is our trial match. Anyways, it's at the Unova Relic Castle on December 7 at 1:00 pm."

"All right then, I guess we'll just wait until...WAIT WHAT THAT'S AN HOUR FROM NOW AND A CONTINENT AWAY!"

Three hours and a bunch of hijinks later:

"Well hello everyone, I'm Maxim, your host for tonight. Today I've got something special for you all. A gym match between two of ASB's finest. Who will win? Only time will tell. Here are the rules for tonight's match."

Arena: Relic Castle

Hidden away for centuries, a monster resides at the bottom of the ancient castle. And he is not happy to be disturbed.

Sand pours down from the higher levels in the gigantic throne room of the Relic Castle in Unova. But, that is not nearly so impressive as the set of columns and stone stairs leading up to the ancient throne, or the scope of the chamber. And those fail to capture the potential danger of the angry Volcarona hovering above you.

The arena revolves around both the natural layout of the room, and Volcarona intimidating non-bugs and assisting bug-types in his home.

-No natural water
-Hail, Rain Dance, and Sunny Day may not naturally be used
-Sandstorm costs three less energy to summon
-Trapping moves cost two less energy and last for an additional round
-Any rock move that requires natural rocks used by a non-bug type will result in Volcarona (neutral nature) attacking the user with Fire Spin. This shall be interpreted as Rock Throw, Rock Slide, Rock Tomb, Stone Edge, and Stealth Rock.
-Swarm is automatically active for all Pokemon who have it
-Fly and Bounce will only evade contact moves during their semi-invulnerable phase
"Who are our two competitors tonight you ask? Well let me introduce you to them."

"Here in the red corner, or far side of the room as it would happen, stands Rediamond ASB's very own Bug typed gym leader. Rediamond has always been known as an exceptional battler who is only held down by Bug's natural weaknesses. He's also a big roleplayer, and has tried a time or two to get a neat roleplaying game onto ASB. As you might expect, he's brought with him some of the cream of the crop in bug types, including an absolutely huge Volcarona that loves fire spinning any non-bug type using rock moves. In my opinion, the bug to watch for in this match is Aurumoth, Destroyer of Worlds, as it can deal reasonable damage to most of Texas's team and the ability to disguise as any other Pokemon for at least the first round is going to be invaluable this match. Without further ado, here's his team."

Flame Body: (Innate) This Pokemon’s external temperature is kept at such a high level that any contact attack used on this Pokemon has a 30% chance of burning the opponent.
Swarm: (Innate) When this Pokemon’s HP is lower than 33% (flat), the Base Attack Power of any Bug-typed attack is increased by 2. (eg Silver Wind goes from 6 to 8, X-Scissor from 8 to 10)
[DreamWorld]
Levitate: (Trait) This Pokemon naturally floats above the earth when released or easily takes flight, evading the Ground moves Bulldoze, Earthquake, Fissure, and Magnitude. Earth Power will have three (3) less Base Attack Power. Dig and Dive can strike a Levitating Pokemon if their user is over Size Class 4, has Levitate, is 3.5m or larger, or is a Flying-type. Otherwise Dig and Dive will miss. Ground moves can still hit. Levitate Pokemon will retain the Levitate trait when they use Skill Swap on an enemy, and will steal the opponent's ability (the user can specify if they want a foe or ally to gain Levitate from a Skill Swap.) If a Pokemon with Levitate uses Role Play, they will copy the opponent's abilities and retain Levitate.

"And in the blue corner today, or the end nearest the entrance in this case, we have Texas Cloverleaf. Texas is a trainer who is quite affluent in both the battling and the political sides of ASB, being both the Dragon Gym Leader and the Policy Leader. He only has a little less political power in ASB than Deck does, and that's saying a lot. Today he's brought with him a pretty balanced team, not even any dragons today. On his side, watch out for Titan the Pyroak, a behemoth with not only more hp than normal, but the ability to go toe to toe with even Armaldo, the leader's usual answer to fire types."

Round 1: The Calm Before the Storm

In a flash of light, two Pokemon appear before the trainers! It looks like we have Titan the Pyroak on Texas's side and Diego Armaldo from Rediamond's side. Despite my earlier predictions, Armaldo's type advantage will be key to helping stop this Pyroak. After each trainer gives introductions and commands to their Pokemon, including the Volcarona floating above us, the battle begins!

The first actions start with a bit of a set up by both players for future rounds. Titan is up first, and decides to spend his time building up some energy to launch something. Titan opens up one of his arm cannons, and instead of the inferno everyone was expecting, ghostly flames come out instead. This Will-o-Wisp attack burns Diego Armaldo, helping to make the type advantage a little less important. Diego Armaldo starts by picking up some debris in the ruin, then imbues them with some kind of strange energy. He throws them at Titan, but instead of landing on Titan, they float all around him. Looks like Rediamond has set up the dreaded Stealth Rocks on his opponents team, making switching a tricky proposition for the challenger. However, soon after Armaldo grimaces in pain, looks like that burn is going to take it's toll pretty soon. The Volcarona above gives a slight glare at Diego Armaldo, but simply shrugs because of his bug typing.

Once both sides have set up, they immediately go on the offensive! Titan decides to wreath himself in flames, then hammer Diego Armaldo with both of his arms. Despite Diego Armaldo being one of Rediamond's few answers to fire, the Flare Blitz does quite a bit of damage. However, Diego Armaldo had a trick up it's sleeve, and it's Rocky Helmet does a little bit of damage to Titan, despite the latter's Rock Head. While Titan was busy attacking, Diego Armaldo was busy using powers to levitate some rocks, which he then throws onto Titan. Despite the Rock Slide being super effective, Titan's Enigma Berry and Diego's burn ensured that Titan took pitiful damage. It would seem that the type advantage has been turned on it's head!

Titan, not satisfied with just attacking once, now glows with a natural kind of energy, and slams Diego Armaldo with both arms again! Diego just gets steamed, and starts launching rubble at Titan, but he only gets enough ammo for about three hits, so it does rather low damage as well.

Well, after the first round, it's become clear that Rediamond's in a tough spot. With lots of smart play from Texas, Titan took only a little damage while Diego Armaldo got smashed for about half of his health. Despite the large lead, it's still anyone's game, and with that Enigma Berry gone and Texas going first, Rediamond might be able to come back from this round.

Round 2: Insomnia

And Rediamond's downward spiral continues.

The round starts off innocuously enough. Titan takes in some debris into his arm cannons, aims in a specific direction, and launches the rocks, which stay in midair. It would seem that both sides have Stealth Rocks now. Volcarona takes notice of this however, and noticing it's hated enemy SR, launches a devastating Fire Spin at Pyroak. In the meantime, Diego Armaldo needs to get rid of that burn, so he falls asleep. That Rest heals him of his burn and some of his damage.

But that rest isn't going to last for long! Texas simply gives a smirk before ordering Titan to Flare Blitz. It does a massive amount of damage, and due to a very slight change in Rest mechanics, Armaldo wakes up. Diego Armaldo looks around confused at his order to Sleep Talk. After that, Titan rams Diego Armaldo with another Wood Hammer, dealing even more damage, though that Rough Helmet might be Rediamond's saving grace here. All this happens while Armaldo simply panics not knowing what to do.

As Round 2 comes to a close, Rediamond finds himself in a very tight spot, and Texas has enlarged his lead. Can Rediamond hope to fend off a loss here? Will ASB ever ban Pyroak as the broken Pokemon it is? Find out next time! Except for that second question, that was a joke.

Round 3: Spinning Around in Circles:

Greetings everyone, welcome back to this heated match. Rediamond has gotten far behind his opponent, can he turn it all around?

This round starts out with Titan sending a flaming strike to Diego Armaldo, taking him dangerously close to fainting. Diego Armaldo pays it no heed however, and starts...spinning? He spins spins and spins some more, pulling in the Stealth Rocks that Titan launched earlier, then ramming Titan. The Stealth Rocks on Rediamond's side have been flung away, and it did some damage to Titan in the process. This may prove to be quite the advantage in the future.

Then Titan finds that he's getting tired, so Texas orders him to take a break to recover some energy. While he is chilling though, Diego Armaldo takes the opportunity to launch a Rock Slide on him, dealing much more damage than the previous one, thanks to that pesky berry and burn being gone.

Titan decides that he's had enough at this point though, so he glows with a natural energy, then hammers Diego Armaldo into submission! It seems like that Wood Hammer was too much for Diego, so he fainted!

So now it seems like this match is 4-3 in the challenger's favor! Can Texas keep his commanding lead going, or will Rediamond find a way to pull through. Regardless, Rediamond has an uphill climb for this battle! Stay tuned to find out how things turn out.

Round 4: The Sun Descends

Welcome back everybody! Last round we witnessed Diego Armaldo falling to Titan and giving Texas a substantial lead. Can Rediamond even hope to turn this around?

Well, Rediamond certainly hopes to try! With a signal of his hand, the Volcarona overlooking the battlefield swoops down and goes to Rediamond's side of the field. It looks like he's summoned Flare the Volcarona to counter Pyroak. Before anyone can even think to react, Flare molts some skin and uses it and some rubble to build a rather flimsy Substitute! Still, it should be able to withstand at least one hit. Titan, smirking that Rediamond's most reliable Rapid Spinner has gone down, launches some more rocks to use as Stealth Rocks. He doesn't smirk for long though, as Flare immediately decides to smite the Pyroak for those Rocks again and sends a Fire Spin at him for no energy! That's one strong Volcarona, but despite her best efforts, I don't think those rocks will be going away anytime soon.

Titan, looking to make the most out of his Stealth Rocks, glows with a blue energy this time and slams Flare with his tail...or at least he would have if that Substitute wasn't in the way. The Substitute is flung around the room, but Flare simply picks it up and places it in front of her, none the worse for wear. Looks like that Dragon Tail isn't going to phase anyone this round! Flare, happy with the results, starts glowing green and dancing. It's a beautiful dance, but Titan isn't fooled, that Quiver Dance is going to help Rediamond's offense immensely.

Flare immediately takes the initiative and whips up some fierce winds for a few seconds. Then she suddenly throws that wind in a concentrated blast against Titan! That Hurricane really hurt Titan, as he's barely left standing, but he still has enough energy to launch one more attack against Flare. He grabs a large rock, stuffs in his cannon, then smacks Flare with it...or at least he would have if Stone Miss didn't live up to it's name and miss. The worst part is that substitute is still standing, and Flare is grinning from ear to ear because of it.

I can't believe it folks. I think in just one round Rediamond went from utterly screwed to having a good shot at winning this! Texas is going to have a rough time doing any damage before Titan drops, and regardless of what happens Titan is going down this next round. It's not a complete loss though, Texas now has Stealth Rocks up on Rediamond's side of the field, which is going to do some massive damage to the leader's bugs throughout the match. What will happen after such a round? Stay tuned to find out!

11:05 Texas what combos with endure i wonder
11:05 Rediamond Protect?

Works for me (note the ruling that Protect extends to both the action and the cool down in a combo)

Round 5: Combo Fun

Welcome back folks! Last Round the Leader pulled off an impressive recovery! Can he keep it up?

Well, Titan's certainly defiant to the last, as he puts up a yellow shield this time! It seems he's combined Protect and Endure into an Enduring Shield! Unfortunately for Texas, Rediamond planned for this...sort of. Flare noticed that the shield had properties of the Protect move, which Rediamond told him to dance for. Thus, nothing much happened as Flare danced and Titan protected himself.

Unfortunately for Flare, Titan's Shield didn't go down. Confused Flare simply wreaths himself in flames and fires them at the shield, but to no avail. Titan meanwhile is trying to cool down from that one.

Just a few moments later, the shield goes down, and Flare goes in for the kill by wreathing itself in dancing flames, and shooting those flames at Titan. While this Fiery Dance did some impressive damage, Titan's Endure didn't quite wear off, and it barely holds on! With every last ounce of energy, it fires up it's arm for one last Flare Blitz, taking down that Substitute! However, that Fire Spin finally catches up with it, and it goes down. Looks like Titan is out of the match!

Flare has undoubtedly proved it's worth in this match by taking down Titan and evening the score, but can it take on Texas's next Pokemon? Stay tuned to find out!

operating under the assumption that my combo worked and the sub is faded:

Stratagem @ Expert Belt

Ancientpower ~ Paleo Wave ~ Ancientpower

If Damaging Evasive and you are slower And you do not have a substitute, Substitute (15) and push back
If Protective/Evasive move, Substitute (15) on the first instance and Chill any others

Fixed! I did allow Tex to change actions though from Wood Hammer to Flare Blitz though, since technically it wasn't reffed. I hope you all are okay with this.

Light Screen~Giga Drain~SolarBeam

I'm going to assume that having two Pokemon on the field who's Dex entries talk about having light sufficient to replace the sun is enough to use SolarBeam.

Round 6: We Will Rock You!

Welcome back everybody! Last round we saw Titan, one of Texas's leading Pokemon for this match, bite the dust. However, Texas smirks as he sends out Stratagem (who doesn't have a nickname). Clearly he's going for the type advantage here. Can Flare even hope to survive the coming onslaught?

Well, Flare definitely isn't stupid about this, so he uses his newfound speed to set up a Light Screen! That will really help to take the blows for this round. Stratagem then uses psychic powers to lift some of the rubble up and slam it into Flare! Unfortunately for Rediamond, this move doesn't trigger Flare's anger, so it seems Stratagem can spam his special rock moves all he likes!

Flare, knowing that the end is near, but wanting to prevent it, starts draining some of Stratagem's health! It glows green for a second then blasts Stratagem with a Giga Drain attack. Stratagem simply keeps up the offensive by launching a blast of prehistoric power (whatever that means). It seems that Paleo Wave stung, but Flare is still kicking!

Flare, in one last attempt to do damage, starts using the solar energy provided by the Pokemon in the room to charge an attack. In a bid to stop this from happening, Stratagem launches another Ancientpower at Flare, only for Flare to counter with a large blast of solar energy. Stratagem is clearly hurting from that Solarbeam!

As this round winds to a close, Texas has regained the lead, though not as much as I think he'd like. Can Rediamond pull his team together in time? Stay tuned to find out!
