Hey all!

Now we have some adorable artwork for our prevos drawn by our wonderful Artists, let's get these prevos some names!

The above are our two designs! I'd like both names in one post please! They will however be in two different polls. Also I will allow Final Submissions from thread open! You may also have 3 WIPS per name!

If you are inspired by the winning art designs and have come up with a good and unique name you'd like the CAP to be known by, please submit your idea here and we will put it up for a vote against all other users' ideas. Final submissions must conform to the submission rules, so please read them carefully. Breaking the posting rules can also result in disqualification.

RULES:

Legal name submissions must meet the following standards
  • Names must start with a capital letter.
  • Names cannot be longer than 12 letters.
  • Names can only contain the following characters:
    • Letters A-Z
    • Numbers 1-9
    • Dash (-)
    • Apostrophe (')
    • Period (.)
    • Colon (:)
    • Space
  • No more than two capital letters can be included in the name, and capital letters cannot be consecutive.
  • A maximum of two non-letters can be included in the name, and a maximum of one non-letter of each type can be included (ie. You can't have two numbers, or two apostrophes, but you could have one number and one apostrophe)
Names will not be slated if they are completely unrelated to the design, silly names (puns are fine), names based primarily on memes, or names meant to inflame, intimidate, or cause controversy.

WIPs
Work In Progress (WIP) Names can be posted at any time for comments from the community.

No more than three WIP Names can be posted by any individual person through the entire course of the submission thread. This limit applies to ALL posts made by a single person, even if previous posts are edited or deleted. This limit is intended to curb the tendency for some submitters to spam the thread repeatedly with lists of Names. This detracts from other submissions and makes it difficult for commenters to survey the submission thread.

Do not bump your WIP names by posting them repeatedly, or making minor spelling changes of a letter or two. Bumping will result in the disqualification of all names by the offender. Editing or deleting bump posts will not prevent disqualification.

Final Submissions
Only ONE Final Submission can be made per person. Any Final Submission that does not follow the proper format will be disqualified.

Any Final Submission posted prior to the Moderator announcement post will disqualify the submitter from the poll entirely. Even if the offending post is edited later or deleted, the submitter will still be disqualified for the remainder of the thread. This ensures that there is some time for discussion and that all submitters have equal opportunity to post Final Submissions without anyone unfairly "jumping the gun".

Please make a new post after the CAP moderator announcement for Final Submissions. Do not edit a previous post prior to the announcement to make it a Final Submission. All posts prior to the announcement post will be ignored for purposes of making the Name Poll.

Final submissions must provide one sentence (25 words maximum) explaining the etymology of the name.

Final submissions must provide a common English pronunciation. The common pronunciation can be made in whatever format you feel best conveys the pronunciation to most English speakers. (You may optionally also provide an IPA pronunciation. For information about IPA and processing words into IPA read this guide: IPA For English. There are also numerous phonetic translation tools online that can help.)

Format
Name Final Submissions must be posted exactly in the following format and in the following exact order:
  • The first line of the post must have the words "Final Submission" in bold on its own line. No other text may be included before the bold heading.
  • A blank line
  • The Name submission in bold.
  • A blank line
  • A one line description of the etymology of the name or why it is appropriate for our Pokemon. (25 words maximum)
  • A blank line
  • "Pronounced: <common English pronunciation>"
  • "IPA: <IPA pronunciation>" (optional)
Below the Final Submission you can post other comments, explanations, etc.

Example final submission:
Final Submission

Syclant

A combination of "Icicle" + "Ant".

Pronounced: "SICKLE-ant"
IPA: sɪkəlænt

This name was originally submitted by Lawman on the very first CAP project. It is simple, elegant, and easy to pronounce (even if you are pronouncing it wrong), which is why it was chosen as the official name for CAP1!
Our CaP Prevo so Far:

WIP

Base Stage 1: Thawny (Thorn or Thunder + Fawn with the letter Y to make it cuter.)
Pronounced: Thaw - Knee

Base Stage 2: Thundeer (Thunder + Deer)
Pronounced: Thun - deer

I think the dual 'th' sound leads into eachother nicely, with a separate impressive final stage similar to Cyndaquil and Quilava or Mudkip and Marshtomp.

Final Submission

Kidzu

A combination of "Kid" + "Kudzu"

Pronounced: Kid-zoo
IPA: ˈkɪdzu

Springshok

A combination of "Springbok" + "Shock"

Pronounced: Spring-shock
IPA: ˈsprɪŋˌʃak

I wanted to play on how first stages often just indicate size/age and for the middle stage I'm resubmitting my final evo original name submisison which imo works better for something more juvenile anyway.

Final Submission

Calfern

Calf (what a baby caribou is called) + Fern.

Pronounced: kaf-fərn

Raideer

Raid + (rein)deer

Pronounced: rād+di(ə)r

Final Submission

Endeer

corruption of “endear” meaning to cause to be loved or liked, and “deer”

Pronounced: en-DEER

Elklectric

Combination of "elk" + "electric”

Pronounced: elk-LEK-trick

WIP - Starter

Medoe

Derived from Meadow (Denoting Grass typing) and Doe (Formally “adult female deer”). The name is simple yet highly descriptive, befitting a regional starter.

WIP - Evo1

Servoke

Derived from “Servo” (From “Servomotor”), Cervine (“deer-like”), and Oak (Denoting Grass typing). Describes the entire Pokémon in one word with great efficiency.

WIP

Calfiole

Calf + Foliole. Apparently the young of Reindeer specifically are calves. 'Foliole' is essentially a sub-leaf that makes up a big leaf, and also flows nicely.

Evolving into...

Rangauss

Rangifer, the Genus of the Reindeer, alongside "Gauss", a unit that's apparently a thing with Magnetic Fields. Technical terms here, folks!

Final Submission

Podzolt

A combination of "Podzolt," the dense, thick later of needles that makes up the floor of conifer forests, and "colt," or a young horse. I'm aware it's not a horse, but Podzolt shares that -olt ending.

Pronounced: Paud-zolt

Cervolt

A combination of "cervine" (meaning deer-like) and "volt." Leads nicely into Caribolt.

Pronounced: Sir-volt

Final Submission

Fawnfir

A Combination of "Fawn" meaning a young deer, and "Fir" as in the fir tree, which is a pinecone-bearing tree commonly found in the same habitats with deer, elk and caribou. Fir also sounds similar to Conifer

Pronounced: Fawn-Fur

Electrelk
A Combination of "Electric" and "Elk". The antlers remind me of the antlers of an elk, and I think the name rolls off the tounge nicely

Pronounced: Elec - trelk

Final Submission

Muntjolt

A combination of "Munt"jac, a type of small deer, and "Jolt"

Pronounced: Munt-Jolt

Voltrein

A combination of "Volt" and "Rein"deer

Pronounced: Volt-Rain

Final Submission

Buddeer

bud + buddy + deer

Pronounced: "BUH-deer"

Elex

elk + (ilex (holly) or ibex) + electric

Pronounced: "ELL-ex"

--

Other thoughts:

So far, I think it'd be fun if we went with Muntjolt -> Cervolt -> Caribolt. Three names that completely make sense while having a rhyming pattern! I also like how "jolt" is a word that hints to its evolutions without being completely Electric-themed.

It's a shame that Servine exists, as "cervine" is a great deer word that has "vine" built into it.

Final Submission

Fawleaf

A combination of fawn and leaf. Also brings to mind four-leaf clovers which is nice for a baby Irish elk.

Pronounced: Faw-leef

Thundeer

A combination of thunder and deer.

Pronounced: Thun-deer

WIP

Stage 1:

Yungbok

Corruption of "young buck" + "springbok."

Pronounced: yuhng-BUHK

Greenhawn

Greenhorn + fawn

Pronounced: GREEN-hawn

----

Stage 2:

Megawatceros

Corrupted version of "megawatt" + megaloceros

Pronounced: MEH-guh-WAHT-surr-uhs

Cervanic

Cervine + Galvanic

Pronounced: surr-VAHN-ik

WIP

Stage 1:
Diliktrik

Dik-dik + electric. A dik-dik is a tiny species of deer, and the name merges very well with the element it will soon acquire.

dih-LICK-trick

Stage 2:
Hoovoltage

Hoof/hooves + voltage

Hoov-VOL-tej

Final Submission

Greenhawn

"Greenhorn," North American slang for a novice + fawn

Pronounced: GREEN-HAWN
IPA: 'griːnˌhɔːn

Cervanic

Cervine + Galvanic

Pronounced: surr-VAN-ik
IPA: sər'vænɪk

-----
Other Thoughts:
As in the movepool stage, the first stage's mono-type turns me away from electricity-themed names; instead, the straightforward name above references the CAP's youth. On the other hand, the second stage's name smoothly combines a technical word linked to deer with a term related to electricity; moreover, "galvanic" can also refer to something abrupt or shocking, which subtly references the CAP's sudden change in typing.

Hey all!

I'm posting how to give you guys a rough 24 hour heads up!

I am going to make an assumption that the first name is for stage one and the second stage is for stage 2. If this is wrong, please make your post clear! Name polls are also going to work slightly different this time around, with us running both stages non-concurrently. This means that we will be deciding on the Stage 1 names first, THEN the stage 2 names. This should give us a little more control/preference in how the names are coming out.
