This will be the first poll to decide our typing for CAP 27! Please refer to the Typing Discussion thread HERE to make an informed decision when submitting your ballot.

-----

This will be a Ranked Pairs vote (RP) (a form of voting where each candidate is ranked according to head to head matchups with each of its competitors in a directed acyclic graph), the details of which were discussed here.

This is a ranked vote: order does matter! You can upvote your favorites and downvote your least favorites. You may choose to rank as many or as few options as you like, but we encourage you to rank as many options as possible to ensure your preferences are taken into account.

Bold your votes and nothing else!
A typical vote might look like the following:
Most Preferred
Second Most Preferred
Third Most Preferred

Any comments that the voter has would go below the votes in non-bold text. Bold text is used to determine what the user's votes are, so none of the supplementary text should be in bold.

CAP uses automated scripts to count votes. For this reason, it is very important for all ballots to be submitted correctly. If you do not compose a legal ballot, your post will be subject to moderation.
  • The scripts count bold words in ballots, so do NOT bold anything in your ballot other than the options you are voting for.
  • Do NOT put any formatting other than bold in your post.
  • Only one option per line.
  • The spelling of options must be EXACTLY correct and must match the spelling listed above.
  • Capitalization and spaces are ignored by the vote counting scripts, but you probably should not depend on it.
Composing a proper ballot is easy. Enter BBCode Edit Mode (the A in the upper right corner). Copy/paste the options directly from the OP to your ballot as plain unbolded text. Delete and/or rearrange the options to suit your preference and the poll type. Bold your vote text using bold tags or re-enter rich text mode, highlight your vote and click B. Spelling or formatting errors may spoil your ballot, so be careful!

Please post only your votes in this thread. Do not respond to other posts, or your posts will be moderated and you may be warned. You are allowed to say whatever you like in relation to your vote at the bottom of your post, but please do not look to begin a discussion. Keep those comments to the PS! CAP chatroom or the CAP Discord channel.

Asking for votes for your submission or for the submissions of others is not allowed. Anyone found to have done so risks punishment at the moderation team's discretion. If you find that someone has broken this rule, please contact the CAP moderation team with your evidence and no one else. Mini-moderation of this rule is also considered a serious offense and can be punished.

The voting options are:

Fire/Dark
Fire/Dragon
Fire/Flying
Normal/Fire
Poison/Dark
Poison/Dragon
Water/Ghost

This poll will be open for 24 hours.

I'm actually really happy with this slate as a whole - these just about all look like interesting options! (I sort of surprised myself with my choices, actually - my initial order was very different, but as I tried to explain my reasons for all of them, they moved around a fair amount.)
Some general (largely uneducated) thoughts on these:

Poison/Dragon - this feels like the most fun combination and opens up more than one possible direction for future discussion. The type combo is well established through Naganadel and Eternatus to pair well with Fire coverage, which opens up interesting combinations with effect-based moves like Mystical Fire and Lava Plume, but it can also go an interesting direction if we choose not to give it that coverage (since it's specifically walled by Steel-types, that means we can explore common ground amongst Steel-types and what kind of utility they don't like, which is exactly the kind of discussion we were already getting in the last thread - which Pokémon don't like losing their items, which ones don't like certain status conditions, et cetera), which immediately gives us two different ways to proceed. It also has some nice defensive utility with seven resistances, but they're not necessarily the ones that matter the most in CAP from what I know - enough to give us opportunities to switch in but not enough that we can always stay in afterwards. It's a genuinely good type as a basis, but it's also one that gives us clear weaknesses - and clear opportunities to accept them, engage with them or overcome them, all in ways that can potentially further the concept but while leaving so many different final products available to us from now. Definitely my favorite of these for the sheer amount of freedom we'll still have after voting for it.

Water/Ghost - Scald + Hex sounds like a really fun and unique combo, and we can incentivize other utility options based on their interactions with the limited resistances to Water and Ghost (Hydreigon is weak to a bunch of good utility moves - U-turn, Icy Wind, Spirit Break... - and if this CAP gets any of them, it comes with built-in incentive to run them at least, which gives it more chances to use them against other opponents for utility as well).

Fire/Dragon - we've discussed Lopunny as an example of how compressed coverage means totally free moveslots for even non-damaging utility moves (including room for disruptive status other than burn, hazard control and clerical support), most of which are harder to fit in when you don't have neutral coverage this good. I think essentially leaving half of our moveset as a blank slate could give us some really fun options for status moves later on.

Fire/Normal - the Ghost immunity is interesting + Normal is an underutilized type + nice resistances + this pairs well enough with Knock Off in that it wants a way to hit said Ghosts back.

Fire/Flying - since our concept relies on switching in often and isn't meant to be purely offensive, I think all but mandating HDB could actually be a good thing; that's a mechanic that's new to Gen VIII, which already means we'll be learning a good amount by working with and around it, while the mere fact of building for a lack of another item could give us some interesting restrictions and freedoms alike in approaching the concept? I'm less confident in this, and I don't think anyone wants the CAP to be *about* Heavy Duty Boots if it risks coming at the expense of the actual concept, but it is something that I think would play into future discussions in an interesting way.

I'm admittedly sort of of ambivalent towards the last two (Fire/Dark, Poison/Dark) - Knock Off is already good enough as a coverage move, so I don't think we need to be Dark-type to incentivize it; these sort of feel like they lose the idea of balancing offense with support by trying to mash them into one spammable option? I think Knock Off being our best utility option *and* our best damaging move *at the same time* is just less interesting than making the Pokémon have to choose on the fly and exploring how to incentivize each one in different situations in battle... But Fire/Dark at least offers more interesting resistances and switch-in opportunities, and I think more resistances aids this concept more than fewer weaknesses, so that leaves Poison/Dark in last.

(Hoping I didn't mess anything up with the formatting! Sorry for making this so long, too - I know it's a bit late to be discussing, and I don't mean to provoke responses, but I just went through all of this as I was deciding on my vote and figured I might as well say it rather than keeping it to myself, haha. If this is out of place and needs to be removed, I totally understand! I'm not sure if it crosses any lines in being too discussion-provoking or if this is an okay level of "sharing thoughts as relating to votes." Sorta new to this!)
