There also aren't any Ghost/Fighting pokemon, or any Bug/Ice mixed sweepers. Just because it hasn't been done doesn't mean it doesn't work.

Actually, what they are saying is that there is no pokemon whose color significantly changes to a white tone.

Who said anything like that? Point me to the quote.

Secondly, yeah, you're pretty much right. The point is though that there are white shiny pokemon, so a white shiny is not out of the question flavor-wise.

I'd say dewgong is pretty close though.

If a CAP pokemon used a green that fit the color range that was never used in pokemon before would we still be complaining?

it was a while back, and the first poster on this page must've read it on another page and responded without knowing of there being more pages.
anyways, when it was claimed earlier in the thread, doug made the shiny and someone or he said that there are no white shiny pokemon, which changed from their normal color too much.

Alright then, I suppose I should have done more research before I went and fired the gun. Chalk it up to brainfarts. Sorry if I annoyed anyone.

Although I wasn't originally talking about what DiamondDust said ( drastic changes in colouring from nonshiney to shiney ), I do agree with him. I think that's what gave me the initial "unPokemonlike" feel, which I still get even after the Arceus/Togekiss/etc. examples. So I'm afraid I still prefer the "black widow" colouring.

Best of luck to all spriters. :)

I'm personally pulling for Doug's as his sprite happens to be a personal favorite of mine. Pity that I won't be able to cast an official vote or make a sprite of my own. Oh well, less pressure on the current entrants, I suppose. :P

Also, this is another drive-by.

I agree that the white shiny does not look pokemonish.

No offense Doug (yours is actually my favorite), but it is already struggling enough to look like a pokemon. Having a never-seen-before shiny puts it off even more. I am not saying it doesn't look good. In fact, it is quite visually appealing; but the black widow scheme fits better on all fronts (pokemon-looking, spider design, overall looks).

Regarding the white shiny argument, there is no pokemon whose regular sprite is not mostly white an whose shiny is mostly white. (correct me if I'm wrong)

I just have this to say: DJD, what's with the drill? I thought the DLL was supposed to be updated with not a drill rather but a stinger, as the former made it look too mechanical?

A small question but whose answers may guide anyone else trying to make a sprite... (I've noticed both drill-version and stinger-version so far)

The discussions in the art thread don't matter -- look at the design that was submitted, voted, and selected. It has a drill. In fact, the smaller picture shows it drilled into the ground. There was talk of updating the design, but Cartoons did not submit it. Since the design with the drill is what the community voted on, that's what I'm spriting.

I prefer the drill, honestly, but I'm glad people are choosing to sprite it the way they prefer.

Of the shinies, I like the white/gold the best, though I'm less down with the lack of pupils considering that's more an alteration of the original sprite than simply an alternate palette.

I think you guys are looking at it differently from what DJD anticipated. It has pupils, but they're white, while the sclera/whatsitcalled ( man, didn't pay attention in Science ) is black.

Not that I really like the white shinies per se; Ubermunch said what DiamondDust and I were trying to say before, I think.

Whew, done finally. What do you guys think of it?

The thing that messes me up about your sprite is that the arms in the back go into the ground sideways, and the ground is sideways. The sprite seems very cluttered, I would try thinning the arms some.

Actually, It is just an alternate pallet, the eyes are just black with white pupils =/
