CAP 5 CAP 5 - Part 2 (Primary Typing Poll 1)

1) Steel
2) Water

Either one of those as super-fast and hard hitting glass cannons would be really interesting to me. Steel first because I love the crap out of Meteor Mash; it's probably my favorite attack in the game.

1. Steel
I've been thinking a lot about using Steel as an offensive type. Can you imagine actually using the Steel stab for offense on a pokemon not named Metagross? It would be a nice change of pace. I've have several ideas on how to pull this off, but I won't poll jump here. Steel has some MASSIVE stereotypes in the game. I think it would be fun to break this particular mold.

2. Electric
I've been pimping Electric on every CAP project so far. Maybe this time we'll actually do it. Although, I kinda hate going against one HUGE stereotype of Electric - they are fast. That's a good thing. I hate the idea of a slow electric. I fear it will be more Luxray than Magnezone. That's not good. But, maybe we won't go COMPLETELY against stereotype, if we choose Electric.

I also want to plead to those voting for Dragon -- please don't. The fanboy in me loves the idea of a CAP Dragon. But, as someone that has to answer for this project -- it will be a PR nightmare if we make a Dragon. Dragon is SUCH a fanboy favorite, that unless we nerf the shit out of it, we are probably going to get a lot of bad press from it. We already have a few very high-profile Dragons in the metagame, and I don't think the game is clamoring for any more. The Dragon typing is fairly broken in the first place. We should steer clear of Dragons.

Fighting
Electric

I was also considering rock and flying. It came down to the fact that rock will already make it, and I feel strongly about breaking the fighting type mold (seriously, they are all physical attackers lol). I also like the electric type, and feel that its ONE weakness should be exploited (and Volt Tackle is too cool a move to be confined to pikachu). Finally, I was going to go with flying just cause I think mono flying would break da mold and could possibly lessen kiss usage by providing another reliable counter to many of our creations.

Doug:... you've just basically proven that there is no Electric stereotype....

Okay... yeah... vote change time.

1. Grass
2. Ground

I'm not sure how offensively useful a special-attacking Rock type would really be. Unless we make a new move, the best special Rock move in existence is Power Gem, which means we're essentially limiting our Pokemon to using Hidden Power as its STAB attack. Certainly, that doesn't mean it won't work (especially if it had something like Fighting or Ground STAB to back it up), but I'm not sure everyone is considering it, especially given that there's really not another Rock-type role that hasn't been done.

As far as my votes go, I'd like to see a strong, fast physical grass type, or a fast special Ground.

1. Rock
2. Dragon

I'd like to see a Rock special sweeper. I'd also like to see another Dragon that is defenses orientated, and can fill in the gap as a reliable special sponge next to Blissey.

Name: Break the Mold
Description:
An OU viable pokemon that goes completely against the stereotypes of its typing.

If I'm understanding this correctly, steryotype doesn't include everyone. Just because we have Zapdos doesn't mean we can't make a defensive electric. The electric stereotype is still a frail special attacker. Same goes for Lucario and offensive steels, Altaria and defensive dragon ect. Not to mention the whole Zapdos thing is flawed because Zapdos's stats scream stereotypical electric, just a bit bulkier. Plus unless we give it levitate or a flying subtype it will have to deal with earthquake. That alone sets it apart from Zapdos significantly in my opinion.

1) Electric
What's said has been said.

2) Steel
I was undecided between Rock and Steel, so I did a flip a coin thing. So Steel it is. It's seriously stereotyped, anyway.

1. Dragon
I believe that the common steroytype with Dragon types is that they're all amazingly weak to their own typing and Ice moves, and usually they have great movesets with abilities to make some sort of physical or special sweeper. I'd really like to see a defensive build Dragon.

2. Steel
Everyone knows a Steel type, and no only are there common counter, but Close Combat and Earthquake are pretty much the only things used against steel pokemon. Earthquake seems like a bit slower attack, and the only "fast" pokemon I can think with Close Combat is Staraptor / Infernape. Having a fast steel type would be able to SE Staraptor and maybe EQ Infernape before Close Combat.

(Too indepth?)

1. Steel - Why not have a fast steel type pokemon? Shouldn't there be a bullet pokemon? In fact, when I first laid eyes upon Skarmory, I assumed it was going to be fast because of it's jet plane like structure.

2.Electric - An Electric type would make a fantastic special wall thanks to having only one weakness. I would say that an unstabbed HP: Ground or Earth Power should be able to do about 30%-45% from a 100 Base SAtk. That's just my opinion though.

Edit: Actually, I take that back. 140 base is weak for a 100 base SAtk to do any damage to. How about 115 SAtk?

Oh, I completely disagree with anything regarding Dragon typing as being COMPLETELY fanboyish. In Pokemon, there are 17 types. This includes Dragon. Also, we have yet to create a Dragon-type Pokemon, something I think may be inevitable.
Whatever the community decides is fine by me, but I don't think discounting an entire type is necessarily the way to go.

Just to let you know, if we make a grass type it won't have Leech Seed or any Powders to "break the mold".
well does everything about it have to break the mold, I know giving a grass type grass moves isn't going to break the mold but it sounds like wht youre saying is the grass type shouldn't get those moves but that's for another part
but yes I know leech seed isn't mold breaking but I was just pointing out the high of grass types
and just my oppinion on rock types. Rock typing is a terrbile typing which is why most rocks are just slow and defensive to live a couple turns. So making it a sweeper, making it pretty fragile (most likely it would be being a sweeper) and it also being weak to every priority move besides quick attack, ice shard and sucker punch really won't help. But that's just my oppinion on it. I have the right to post what I think, you have the right to ignore it :pimp:

Choice one: Rock
Choice two: Dragon

Rock dragon special sweeper would be fun imo and has a lot of potential on the design side. Rock and Dragon are two of the most efficient offensive types in OU, and Dragon gives it the amazingly powerful Draco Meteor, as well as access to dragon pulse to supplement an otherwise lackluster two special rock attacks, though I assume any rock type special sweeper would get Earth Power and such.

1. Rock
2. Steel

How we deal with Rock ought to be interesting to be sure, but I'm sure a new signature attack could be crafted to out-do Power Gem.
