CAP 5 CAP 5 - Part 2 (Primary Typing Poll 1)

rock... we are not worrying about what pokemon are good with rock, its about moves
head smash? stone edge? plenty to go on

Good Rock Type is an oxymoron +_+

Tonnes of stuff can switch into rock, tonnes of stuff can kill rock...

I don't like where this is going ._.

Aerodactyl

Is fast.

So ummm, you are planning to make a special rock sweeper then? I already made this argument....

1. Flying
2. Dark

I would like to see flying or dark pokemon that would work as a physical tank.
The types could even go together though it would be psychic and ground immune and bug, dark, ghost and grass resistant it have three 2x weakness to the common types ice, electric and rock (SR weak) though Roost would fix that...
Anyway, we are not here to vote for secondary types, so I think a flying or dark tank would be a really nice concept.

EDIT: Just wanted to say how much I love the avarage stats chart. Thank you latinoheat<3
EDIT2: btw, you don't have the avarage stats for OU and OU/BL Flying types.

Way to list two physical moves... if we are going to break a mold it would need to be special based. So listing two powerful rock moves is useless if the moves in question are physical.

edit: This just made me realize something. Since few special rock type moves exist perhaps we could give this Pokemon an ability that converts physical rock move into special ones. Not sure if that would be difficult to implement, nor am I sure it would be a good idea. Still I fell it is worth suggesting. Otherwise we are limited to STAB AncientPower, or STAB Power Gem, both of which are pretty unimpressive in terms of raw power.

The purpose of the concept is to make something original which doesn't conform to existing typing-based stereotypes. Since a useful bulky electric already exists, how can you justify choosing electric without going against the concept?

TAY what you just said suggests you think the concept prohibits people from choosing Electric is a type. That would mean the Concept is illegal and could not have been allowed by Doug and chosen by Tennis/everyone. It Was allowed, therefore, Electric and all other types must be viable choices for the Primary Typing. We can criticise users' reasoning for choosing a type but we can't suggest they are going against the concept by choosing it.

Electric - it's been coming for a long time now, and it'd be interesting to see how we let Electric "break the mold"
Rock - Eh, special rock has never been done. Really just an anti-dragon vote for now.

I would like to say a few things after reading through the votes so far:

1. I really hope people (especially those new to the project) are taking into consideration the typings of our past CAPs. Two comments that come to mind are: wanting a physical ghost (revenankh) and an Ice that can handle SR (syclant). Please be educated...

2. @TAY kinda: I'm pretty sure we are only taking into account OU type molds since we are making an OU poke. If we decided to make a UU then a defensive dragon would BE the mold. So....

3. We should save defensive dragon for the EVO project. Altaria seems like a decent candidate, so save your votes for there.

4. (minor nitpick): Sorry Poop, but he did make a bold vote already; he was just poll jumping there...

5. @ Doug: I belive you asked TAY whether that meant it was too restrictive. Well, even though I was not personally asked, I believe that (depending on the type) it could very well be too restrictive. Casmat pointed out that some types (like rock) already have significant pokes in many of the roles, restricting us to (possibly) one build/role. In a way, this concept is actually MORE restrictive than the others.

6. I know he isn't that fast (but with priority idk...), but Lucario is a DAMN good steel typed sweeper.

I am really torn here; there are four types I am considering right now, that all seem like they could use a good "mold breaking" AND would then add something significant to the metagame. It looks like I will have to decide quickly.

1. Steel

Special-centric glass cannon Steel would be fun, especially if we could make it actually use its steel STAB, unlike Lucario.

2. Electric

More an anti-Dragon vote than anything. Dragon's potential for brokeness really worries me, especially with some people wanting one who can somehow tell something with STAB-ice moves off 116/114/121 stats to "GTFO". If an ice type with godly offenses can't stop a dragon, then what the hell can?

1. Steel
2. Water

Both are in need of some more speed oriented pokes. Steels are usually slow, and waters are most commonly use for their bulkyness.

Give these bastards a slap on the ass with some more speed.

1) Electric

Someday I will fullfill my dream of having a very bulky electric poke with levitate, and since it fits in the humonglious concept of "break the mold", I am all for it.

2) Steel

I kind of have no other options <_<;. I would like to see an OU steel sweeper with high speed, instead of your everyday random metal poke with high def.

Well that wasn't really my point...but could you justify picking a water type, which already has a useful pokemon in most roles? At any rate, it isn't against the rules (http://www.smogon.com/forums/showpost.php?p=1232767&postcount=3) to have a concept which restricts choices, as long as it doesn't narrow it down to only a few before the poll even starts. So if latino's idea made water and dragon non-viable picks, leaving 15 viable types, then that wouldn't be a porblem.

Anyway, I was suggesting that if a person's only reasoning for picking a type (electric in this case) was pretty much to make a similar version of something else (zapdos in this case), then how could you say that his vote is in line with the concept "break the mold," especially when Zapdos is the most used electric type in the game? If you look at my reasoning and my fidgit analogy, it's pretty clear that I am questioning the vote, not the concept.

@Ubermunch: I suppose you are right in the assumption that we shouldn't be taking UU molds into account, but I imagine the community would feel a bit silly making something which might as well be an Altaria evolution...

EDIT:

OvaRia said:
Everyone, the secondary type should be flying...It has to be.
Everyone please try to avoid poll jumping! There is no need to clutter up this thread with unrelated discussion. (OvaRia I know you're not the only one posting stuff like this; this is just an example.)

1. Steel

*Flash cannon, I agree here.

Another dragon, a hit from powerful boosted STAB, some limiting factor...something like that I guess. I'm still going to stand by it not being that bad.

1. Electric- I've voted for electric in the past two CaPs, so no change here. A bulky electric would be nice.

2. Rock- It was between Steel and Rock here, but I chose Rock because Steel is a crap attacking type.

1. Rock

I really, really want to see a Rock-type special sweeper.

2. Electric

We also need a bulky Electric type. Pachirisu just doesn't cut it. (though Ampharos is pretty nice)

CAP 5- Part 2

1 flying
2 ground

this new enough?

Gliscor says hi.

Rock/Electric simply for the fact that Rock is a vastly underestimated type, and I simply feel the use of Rock Types in OU is limited to basically T-Tar, aka Do not want. And Electric is in my opinion just an awesome type, and the use of Rock and Electric moves seems to beg for a mixed attacker (considering new moves weren't made to compensate for a lack of useable special rock moves). However, I see a burden for this typing to have an unfortunate 4x Ground weakness.

Oh, I got quoted.

I like Electric as a type and there are many different ways to utilize the typing too, I mean, I'm not looking for something exactly along the lines of Zapdos. There are different tweaks / options, that can make it distinct. I'm choosing a typing I would like to see super different from the rest, and even right now, I doubt anyone can seriously accurately guess what the end product will be.

@Ubermunch: I suppose you are right in the assumption that we shouldn't be taking UU molds into account, but I imagine the community would feel a bit silly making something which might as well be an Altaria evolution...

Well yeah, but with that logic, the community might feel silly making special Rock since it might as well be an Omastar evolution..
