CAP 5 CAP 5 - Sprite Submissions

Still tweaking the sprites, but atleast I was finally able to choose the shiny colours, atleast till I deside to change them again :/ I might make the backsprite slightly bigger, but other than that, I'm almost finished with this thing.
I like the steel blue color on the shiny, but the brown is not contrasting enough. You lose it in the sprite. I would use a much brighter color instead, and maybe play around with the gem color.

DJD talked to me about my sprite and showed me better ways to to the lighting. He also used a different color scheme in his examples which I borrowed and changed a bit. Behold...

Defiantly my favorite so far out of all the submissions i think this one matches the D/P style the best. The only thing i would suggest it that you change the upper lefthand claw so it's more curved so it doesnt have as sharp an angle.

Wyverii's is good too but I think the shadeing makes it look too much like a third gen sprite.
Lol you followed through beautifully Aty. This is probably my favorite of your sprites, and it's the one I'll be voting for.

Yeah, the coloring is specially good now. What about making the claws (specially the upper ones) a bit bigger? Not much, just a few pixels. I think it could make it better.
But anyway, I still like your design (and DarthVader's too) the most. I like how they are small, and I like how they don't have a silly pose (sorry Wiiveri, but I think that the ballet pose is really silly). I like them.

Ohhhh yes. Your backsprites are wkd Darthvader, but to people who've not seen the Rockmon art much, the arm crisscrossing the head looks a bit odd. I want to know what others think?
I'd like to see a back pose with the upper claws moved further forward so that I can compare the two poses.
Would we be allowed to take the front sprites from one spriter and the back sprites of another for the final product?

No. Sprites are voted on as a package.
BTW, almost every artist who has posted sprites for CAP5 has done an amazing job. I was originally considering making an entry, when the thread first opened. But as more sprites were posted, I realized, "Why bother?" There are so many good sprites, I honestly don't think I could do any better. I have my favorites, but I will be pleased with any sprite that wins. The level of artistic talent on the CAP project is nothing short of stunning...

My favorite so far.
I actually see something very "adv esque" about these sprites. I mean that in a good way. The eyes look a little bit too, I dunno, solid though. Like little red spheres. You should try to make them look a little bit more transparent, kinda like Atyroki's.

I'm admittedly not a big fan of the shiny colors. The green rocks are a bit odd with the black. Perhaps a lighter red or even orange. Try a bunch of color schemes.

My favorite pose by a good bit. I also like how the coloring is kinda flat, looks closer to a rock to me. Just two small probs- the eyes I wish ad a little more depth, like Atyroki's (his are just more captivating), and the shiny seems too alien, maybe give some other color combos a try.

This is one of my favorite backsprite and shiny color so far. good job.
Wyverii's is my favorite so far. Your shading is so amazing, it looks like so much more than just pixels. However, it seems a lot of people are turned off by the "ballet" pose. You may want to try and do a slightly more conventional pose as an alternative and see which people like better.

The only reason I don't like this pose is because he appears to be DODGING an attack, rather than ATTACKING, like sweepers should.
Thanks for the compliment and the vote of confidence. I did dabble with some poses and coloring ideas when the thread was first put up. But, when Wyverii, Atyroki, EM, and others posted their sprites -- I looked at my ideas and realized that they "beat me to it" so to speak. And they did a FANTASTIC job! So good, in fact, that I didn't feel like I could add anything significant that had not already been done very well.
I do feel a little weird about being the most recent CAP sprite winner, and not even entering the competition this time. But, all my artistic submissions in CAP projects come from a personal desire to express a visual idea -- to get it out of my head and on paper. After I do that, submitting it into the competition is almost a secondary concern. In this case, I've already seen all of "my ideas" -- they just happened to be produced before me by other talented spriters!
So, I'm going to sit back and be an enthusiastic cheerleader for all the other spriters this time around.
I disagree, that's all. It's swiping forward, scythe-like.
What I mean is, you know, think about it in terms of Strength, Agility, and Intelligence. Garchomp, Mamoswine, all those ... those are Strength-based. Alakazam, Darkrai ... Intelligence-based. This Pokemon is Agility-based, like Ninjask or ... another Pokemon isn't coming to mind. Deoxys-S. Jolteon. Umbreon, even. And I think Wyverii's sprite captures that quite well.
A goldish brown shiny version might look good think of making it.
