Welcome to Smogon! Take a moment to read the Introduction to Smogon for a run-down on everything Smogon, and make sure you take some time to read the global rules.
Additionally, It is my belief that the ND base of players would be heavily interested to try this meta out, and at least speaking for myself, would for sure signup to play it.
Given the discourse and the clock my taskbar, it's time to make a call. Here's our slots:
SV1
SV2
SV3
SS
SM
ORAS
DPP
NatDex
Swapping out UU for ND wasn't easy but comes down to a couple factors (some bigger than others):
-CAP UU interest feels far more insular: the people excited about the tier's development are likely already interested in other metas being offered or are not playing (i.e. both kenn and I, maybe some people wanting to manage).
-NatDex CAP has more history associated with it, even if the recent Tera ban has largely reshaped the face of the tier. This means there should be more people willing to give the format a try again.
-No Tera allows an opportunity to see how our recent Gen 9 CAPs perform in a environment without the mechanic.
-Both formats are in need of greater development, but CAP UU's growth already seems to be accelerating, especially as plans for a forum tour have been discussed. NatDex is far more likely to need this extra push.
Initially, UU's inclusion meant I tagged out SS since both felt somewhat similar in what was strong CAP-wise. Now that UU is out, however, I've decided to add it back in place of BW, since BW feels like it adds a bit less to the format now.
The suggestion dex made to have both UU and SS by simply having NatDex override SM as the two are closely related (expanded movesets, Megas, Z-Moves) definitely caught my attention, but it's hard for me to add two slots which tread new ground: that doesn't feel fair to teams at all. NatDex is also significantly more powerful than SM is just by virtue of how much powercreep has occured in the past two generations, and thus their exact metagames aren't going to align as nicely, leaving SM players with a meta that feels far more alien than it initially appears: honestly if Boots were banned in ND I may have actually gone through with this plan, since hazard play would be better preserved, but they are not.
That about wraps things up. I'll leave a spoiler tag below detailing the overall format for CAPCL IV if you desire to look over it. Manager Signups will arrive very shortly, so stay tuned!
