[OVERVIEW]

Speed Boost Carvanha can quickly outpace almost any threat and punch holes with powerful STAB attacks. With a nice STAB combination and Psychic Fangs for almost everything not hit by it, Carvanha can be a significant offensive threat. Its shortcomings are subpar defenses, a rather niche role, and no means to boost damage output. The prevalence of Grookey, Timburr, and Focus Sash Abra limits Carvanha's usefulness in the tier.

[SET COMMENTS]
Moves
========
Liquidation and Crunch provide nearly universal coverage. Liquidation has a chance to lower Defense, which can force bulkier switch-ins out. Psychic Fangs takes care of Fighting-types like Mienfoo and common Poison-types such as Foongus, Koffing, and Mareanie. Protect ensures that Carvanha will almost always get a Speed boost and can be used to stall out attacks such as High Jump Kick and Grassy Glide.

Set Details
========
Maximum Speed and Attack ensure that Carvanha can do as much damage as possible. The leftover EVs into Special Defense keep Download Porygon from gaining a Special Attack boost. Life Orb substantially improves damage output. 9 HP IVs give Carvanha 19 HP, causing it to lose only 1 HP per turn from Life Orb.

Usage Tips
========
Carvanha's low defenses limit its chances to switch in, so it benefits greatly from pivots and lures. It operates best when switched in to revenge kill and when its checks have been worn down. Once Pokemon like Mienfoo and Spritzee have been weakened and lost items to Knock Off, Carvanha can quickly become overwhelming. Even if Carvanha is unable to pull off a sweep, it will put holes in the opponent's defensive backbone for another sweeper to exploit.

Team Options
========
Thanks to Carvanha's pretty good coverage, there aren't many Pokemon that can switch in freely. Ferroseed is probably the biggest threat to Carvanha thanks to strong defenses and typing. As such, it benefits from teammates like Ponyta and Timburr. Knock Off is a great asset on teammates for beating Sturdy + Berry Juice users like Onix and Magnemite. Ferroseed is a good teammate for weakening Water-types like Staryu, taking advantage of Spritzee, spreading status, and setting entry hazards. Carvanha is very susceptible to priority attacks from the likes of Grookey and Timburr. Ponyta and Koffing are good counters to them and can help keep up the offensive pressure that Carvanha thrives on. Trapinch is able to trap Grookey and Ferroseed, although Ferroseed should be weakened first. Pivots like Mienfoo and Larvesta help make up for its poor defenses and are generally good team options.

[STRATEGY COMMENTS]
Other Options
=============
Waterfall is is a useable STAB move for its flinch chance. Carvanha can attempt a special set with Hydro Pump, Ice Beam, and Dark Pulse, which makes it slightly better against Pawniard. However, it is largely outclassed by Staryu and Wingull. Aqua Jet allows Carvanha to finish off weakened priority users such as Timburr and Pawniard. Destiny Bond has merit, especially when paired with Focus Sash to take down an opponent's counter. This works well when removing shared checks to other offensive threats like Shellder. Carvanha can fill a pivot role with Flip Turn instead of Psychic Fangs, which has excellent synergy with trappers.

Checks and Counters
===================

**Priority**: Even weaker priority moves can be threatening to Carvanha. Timburr's Mach Punch, Grookey's Grassy Glide, and the rarer Croagunk's Vacuum Wave pose serious threats, and their users should be removed before attempting to sweep. However, Protect can be used to block First Impression and Fake Out.

**Grass-types**: Ferroseed's defenses and typing allow it to shrug off Carvanha's attacks and easily dispose of it or set entry hazards. Foongus is similar to Ferroseed but must take caution against Psychic Fangs, which it cannot take without Eviolite. Grookey isn't bothered by Aqua Jet and can hit Carvanha with Grassy Glide. Protect can stall out the last turn of Grassy Terrain, however.

**SturdyJuice**: Onix, Magnemite, and Dwebble are threats to Carvanha with Sturdy and Berry Juice—Magnemite especially so with Recycle. While all of them take significant damage from Carvanha's attacks, they will be able to hit back and remove Carvanha. Their threat is mitigated if they lose Berry Juice.

**Focus Sash**: Focus Sash users can take a hit from Carvanha and KO back; Abra is the most common user and runs Energy Ball or Dazzling Gleam.

**Fighting-types**: Eviolite Timburr has the bulk to withstand Psychic Fangs from full HP and take Aqua Jet well. Scraggy gets an opportunity to set up and overwhelm Carvanha. Mienfoo is a threat as well, but Protect can turn the tables against High Jump Kick variants, which are then vulnerable to Liquidation or Psychic Fangs.

Tag me again after you have implemented this. Right now, the analysis is quite informal and contains a lot of slang. I won't GP too much this time, but just be wary of these sort of stuff for future analyses. A lot to implement.

Authors note: I took Adamant out of the set, since imo Jolly is better to tie with things like Scarf Meinfoo after a speed boost. It also felt too dense with it in.

[OVERVIEW]

Carvanha is one of the few Pokemon in the tier who get access to Speed Boost, an ability that raises the user's stat one stage each turn (Dex info, unnecessary). In a tier where Speed is arguably the most important stat, the value is apparent. (This doesn't really add much) What Carvanha has in Speed and power, it lacks in diversity, but fortunately with just three moves, has near excellent coverage within Little Cup. Unfortunately, Carvanha's frail defenses do not permit it to handle many attacks, and will need some support to be effective.
- Overview needs to be beefed up and reworded a little. Mention how Speed Boost helps Carvanha be an effective cleaner and finish off weakened teams. Discuss how it only fits on certain teams with its paper-thin defenses and lack of general utility. Also, add some examples of common priority that bops Carv, like Grassy Glide and Mach Punch, making it hard to use.
[SET]
name: Physical Sweeper (Cleaner sounds better; Carv doesn't really "sweep")

Liquidation and Crunch provide dual STAB threat and provide nearly universal coverage, resisted only by Croagunk and Morelull (Neither of them are relevant enough). Psychic Fangs provides coverage to take care of common switch-ins such as Foongus (Generalize this to Poison-types and add Koffing and Mare) and Fighting-types, like Mienfoo the aforementioned Croagunk. The final slot is a bit of a dealer's choice, (Informal) Protect ensures that Carvanha will almost always get a boost to its Speed stat, which can be crucial for late game situations, [while Aqua Jet allows Carvanha finish off weakened priority users, such as Timburr or Pawniard. Destiny Bond also has merit, especially when paired with Focus Sash to take down an opponent's counter.] - OO
- Mention Waterfall and how it is weaker than Liquidation, but allows Carv to flinch thru some of its checks like Pawn and Spritzee

Set Details
========
The EVs on the set are straightforward, maximum Speed and Attack ensure that Carvanha takes advantage of it's two most valuable assets, while the remainder is thrown into Special Defense, mostly to keep Porygon from gaining a Special Attack boost. Life Orb is probably the best bet for Carvanha as it substantially improves Carvanha's damage output. will give you the most "bang for your buck", but if running Destiny Bond, a Focus Sash would be recommended to give it a better chance to work. With a Jolly nature, Carvanha will Speed tie with Choice Scarf 17 Speed Pokemon, giving way to some 50/50s such as Choice Scarf Meinfoo or Choice Scarf Chinchou. - Jolly sucks; Choice Scarf Chinchou is not relevant and you need Adamant for damage output

Usage Tips
========
The most important thing with Carvanha, is to get it in safely, which is easier said than done. Carvanha cannot switch into many hits, even resisted attacks can take a sizeable chunk of its HP. It operates best when switched in to revenge kill or clean a weakened team. After it has switched in, boost your Speed if Protect is an option or just start attacking, depending on the scenario. To really gain the most from having Carvanha slotted on your team, it is best to clear any checks on your opponents team, especially Ferroseed who hard stops checks Carvanha. - For this sentence, just generalize it to weakening Carvanha's checks and making sure foes like Mienfoo are knocked and weakened so that Carv can clean

Team Options
========
Thanks to Carvanha's pretty good coverage, there aren't many Pokemon that can switch in au hazard. Ferroseed is probably the biggest threat to Carvanha, thanks to strong defenses and typing. As such, teammates like Ponyta or Vullaby with Heat Wave are great teammates. Additionally, Sturdy + Berry Juice sets are equally dangerous, because of Carvanhas aforementioned weak defenses, it will not be able to survive a hit. Knock Off therefore is a great asset on teammates, Vullaby is great because it can lure in Onix or Magnemite and Knock Off its Berry Juice. Ferroseed is also a good teammate to weaken opposing Water-types like Staryu, spread status and/or lay entry hazards to further reduce your opponents Pokemon's health. Ferroseed can also help counter Spritzee, who shrugs off Carvanha's attacks and can OHKO with Moonblast. With such subpar defenses, Carvanha is very susceptible to priority attacks which can come from the likes of Grookey, Timburr, Trapinch, Meowth or Croagunk, among others. There is a wide array of priority users, so there are no blanket options to deal with all of them equally. Vullaby, Spritzee, Mareanie, Mudbray and other strong defensive Pokemon who can hit back hard are good options. - Carv doesn't lose to Trapinch and Meowth and Croagunk are less common. Mention some Grookey and Timburr checks that are more offensive like Koffing and Vullaby. Mention Spike-stacking hyper offense with Dwebble. Carv really thrives on these types of HO builds where its teammates can weaken foes with Knock Off and their attacks. Mention Fighting-type checks that aren't Spritzee cuz they don't really fit on the same team.

Other Options
=============
That's really about it, Carvanha's movepool isn't what could be considered, even in the most liberal of applications of the word, as "diverse". It has the moves to pull of a special set with Hydro Pump, Ice Beam and Dark Pulse, but it just isn't as good as the physical option, and is outclassed by Staryu or Chinchou. Ice Beam can be used with a Hasty or Lonely nature and 76 Spa to hit Vullaby without activating Weak Armor, but with 2 Speed boosts it will tie with an Adamant nature and outspeed with a Jolly nature. Super Fang can be interesting to ignore predicting any switchins, but any of the listed moves in the set are much better alternatives. - Bad. Mention Aqua Jet and Destiny Bond in this section.

Checks and Counters
===================
**Ferroseed**: Ferroseed's enormous defenses and typing allow it to shrug off Carvanha's attacks and easily depose of it. Giga Drain will OHKO Carvanha or Thunder Wave will cripple it. Additionally Ferroseed will be able to lay down entry hazards if it has them. A Rapid Spin or Defog user is good to handle any entry hazards and a strong Fire-type attack to remove Ferroseed. Vullaby, Koffing or Ponyta are excellent choices for teammates. - This isn't really meant for here (more for team options).

**Sturdy-Juice Pokemon**: Onix, Magnemite, Dwebble and so forth are all threats to Carvanha with Sturdy and Berry Juice. Magnemite especially so with Recycle. While all of them take significant damage from Carvanha's attacks, they will be able to hit back and remove Carvanha. Knock Off users are a good strategy to counter this threat, or a teammate who can handle one or more of them. Timburr, Pawniard and Meinfoo are good choices for this role. Vullaby can be a good choice as well with Knock Off to lure them in and remove their Berry Juice item. - Same as before. You can not that these Pokemon are less of a threat when they are knocked.

**Focus Sash Users**: Similarly to the Sturdy-Juice example above, Carvanha cannot sustain a hit, and relies on it's speed and power to overcome it's abysmal defenses. An intact Focus Sash allows the opposing Pokemon to survive any of Carvanha's attacks and strike back. Abra in particular is a big threat, as it can OHKO with Energy Ball or Dazzling Gleam. Dewpider is another common Focus Sash user who can equally fatally damage Carvanha with Giga Drain. - Change this to just Focus Sash Abra. Dewpider should never be full health until late-game realistically.

**Trapinch**: At first glance Trapinch seems like it would be easily handled by Carvanha, but thanks to the combination of Arena Trap and First Impression, Trapinch has no problems getting through Carvanha sets without Protect, even Aqua Jet will not be enough to overcome this, as First Impression has +2 priority. Sadly, there isn't much to do once in this situation, Trapinch will have to be dealt with before trying to sweep with Carvanha. Iron Defense Mareanie is a good choice for a Trapinch lure.
- Non-protect Carv is bad rn.

**Grookey**: Grookey isn't bothered by Carvanha's only priority move and can hit with Grassy Glide, Drain Punch or U-Turn. Ice Beam can hurt Grookey on the switch, but without it Carvanha won't have a way past. Vullaby or Ponyta are good teammate options to clear Grookey. - Grookey is realistically never clicking anything other than GG in front of Carv. Mention how Carvanha can try to stall out Grassy Terrain with Protect and how Grookey can't directly switch into Carv.

**Timburr**: Timburr is stout physically bulky and can take Aqua Jet, and can survive Psychic Fangs with full HP and Eviolite. Without Aqua Jet, Carvanha is left open to a very strong Mach Punch which will easily go through Carvanha's defenses. Vullaby, Koffing, Abra or Spritzee are all good choices to counter Timburr, depending on your teams needs. - Mention how Timburr can't directly switch into Carv due to fears of Psychic Fangs.

**Strong Priority**: Rather than list out every priority user, any strong priority user including but not limited to Meowth (Fake Out, Feint), Croagunk (Vacuum Sweep), Meinfoo (Fake Out) are threatening to Carvanha sets that don't have Aqua Jet, excluding Croagunk, who benefits from Aqua Jet with Dry Skin. Protect can help against Fake Out, but otherwise it's best to switch to another Pokemon. - Would much rather see a point on Fighting-types than this one.

- Mention Spritzee as a check

i made the changes (i think all, there were a lot) and changed things to bulleted lists where they were, since I kind of put the cart before the horse. it looks uglier, but should have all the pertinent info. sorry it took so long, i've been obsessed with an MMO recently

Please make sure to implement the check carefully. You miss a lot of things I noted in the first check. Also, if you are going to use bullet points/dashes, make them a little bit more concise. The person checking this next won't be able to tell what "Speed Boost goes vroom" means.

While all of them take significant damage from Carvanha's attacks, they will be able to hit back and remove Carvanha. The threat from these can be mitigated by removing their Berry Juice. - The wording for this is off. It makes it seem like Carv would remove their BJ which isn't the case.

**Focus Sash Users**: Similarly to the Sturdy-Juice example above, Carvanha cannot sustain a hit, and relies on it's speed and power to overcome it's abysmal defenses. **Grookey**: Grookey isn't bothered by Carvanha's only priority move and can hit with Grassy Glide. - Mention how you can try to stall out Grassy Terrain turns with Protect

**Timburr**: Timburr is stout and can take Aqua Jet, and can survive Psychic Fangs with full HP and Eviolite. Without Aqua Jet, Carvanha is left open to a very strong Mach Punch which will easily go through Carvanha's defenses.

Protect can help against Fake Out, but otherwise it's best to switch to another Pokemon. - These Pokemon are not relevant and Mienfoo's Fake Out never beats Carv becuz of Protect. Instead, turn this section into one about other Fighting-types, like Mienfoo and Scraggy, that can threaten Carv, but should be wary of Protect blocking HJK and being bopped by its Water STAB moves and Psychic Fangs (Mienfoo).

- Mention Spritzee as a check
Fully implement this and consider this analysis 1/3.

It has the moves to pull of a special set with Hydro Pump, Ice Beam and Dark Pulse, but it just isn't as good as the physical option, and is outclassed by Staryu or Chinchou. the merits of this set is that it bypasses mons like foongus - mention the positives first if you're going to mention it at all.
Ice Beam can be used with a Hasty or Lonely nature and 76 Spa to hit Vullaby without activating Weak Armor, but with 2 Speed boosts it will tie with an Adamant nature and outspeed with a Jolly nature. Aqua Jet allows Carvanha finish off weakened priority users, such as Timburr or Pawniard. Destiny Bond also has merit, especially when paired with Focus Sash to take down an opponent's counter. mention this is useful when paired with stuff that is also walled by similar mons as carvahna (eg shellder)

Checks and Counters
===================
**Ferroseed**: Ferroseed's enormous defenses and typing allow it to shrug off Carvanha's attacks and easily depose of it. Giga Drain will OHKO Carvanha or Thunder Wave will cripple it. Additionally Ferroseed will be able to lay down entry hazards if it has them.
i would change this to "grass types" and include stuff like foongus and grookey.

**Sturdy-Juice Pokemon SturdyJuice**: Onix, Magnemite and Dwebble are all threats to Carvanha with Sturdy and Berry Juice. Magnemite especially so with Recycle. While all of them take significant damage from Carvanha's attacks, they will be able to hit back and remove Carvanha. The threat from these can be mitigated by having their Berry Juice removed or breaking their Sturdy.

Abra in particular is a big threat, as it can OHKO with Energy Ball or Dazzling Gleam. i would rather you rename this to "abra" as the only other focus sash users in the tier are dewpider and amaura, neither of which are the main sets and u don't see them very often if at all

**Grookey**: Grookey isn't bothered by Carvanha's only priority move and can hit with Grassy Glide. With Protect however, if Grassy Terrain has is on it’s last active turn, Carvanha can Protect against Grookey and attack the following turn. If Carvanha only has one speed boost, it will still be outsped by Choice Scarfed variants. merge this to the grass type bullet point

**Fighting Types**: Timburr is stout and can take Aqua Jet, and can survive Psychic Fangs with full health and Eviolite. Equally, Scraggy has an opportunity to set up and can overwhelm Carvanha, flinches withstanding. Meinfoo is a threat as well, but Protect can turn the tables against High Jump Kick variants and is then vulnerable to a strong STAB attack or Psychic Fangs.

[OVERVIEW]

Little Cup is a tier that is built on speed is arguably the most important stat in the tier. Carvanha's access to Speed Boost allows it to quickly outpace almost any threat and can quickly punch holes with powerful STAB attacks. With nice dual STAB coverage and Psychic Fangs for almost everything else, Carvanha is can be (its pretty matchup reliant) a significant offensive threat. However, it is not without shortcomings, which are subpar defenses, a rather niche use and no means to boost damage output. Carvanha likes to swim in offensive environments, where constant offensive pressure and forcing your opponent on their heels allows for late-game sweeps after Carvanha's checks have been worn down info here is great but needs to be reworded to make it more formal. The prevalence of Timburr, Grookey and Focus Sash Abra, however, are significant and limit Carvanha's usefulness in the tier. good, put more emphasis on grookeys prevalence in the tier cause the mon is everywhere and pretty much invalidates carvanha.

Even if Carvanha is unable to pull off a sweep, it will be able to deal large amounts of damage to the opposing team, breaking holes in the opposite team's defensive backbone for another sweeper to exploit. easing late-game finishes. [[This needs to be reworded, but my feeble brain is struggling.]]

Team Options
========
Thanks to Carvanha's pretty good coverage, there aren't many Pokemon that can switch in freely. Ferroseed is probably the biggest threat to Carvanha, thanks to strong defenses and typing. As such, it benefits from teammates like Ponyta or Vullaby with Heat Wave. Additionally, SturdyJuice and Focus Sash users, such as Onix, Magenemite and Abra, are equally dangerous, because of Carvanhas weak defenses, it will not be able to survive a hit. It can also take advantage of Spritzee, who shrugs off Carvanha's attacks and can OHKO with Moonblast. Carvanha is very susceptible to priority attacks which can come from the likes of Grookey and Timburr. Koffing and Vullaby are good counters to these and can help keep up the offensive pressure that Carvanha thrives on. Trapinch is able to trap and handle Grookey and Ferroseed, although it would be wise to weaken opposing Ferroseed's first. mention popping abras sash too The use of offensive pivots, such as Meinfoo or Vullaby are good teammate options as well, as it allows the user to maintain offensive pressure and where Carvanha does its best work allows Carvanha to shine.

It just isn't as good as the physical option, and is outclassed by Staryu or Chinchou Wingull (chinchou sucks). Ice Beam can be used in a mixed set with a Naughty nature and 76 Special Attack to achieve the same goals. Aqua Jet allows Carvanha finish off weakened priority users, such as Timburr or Pawniard. Destiny Bond also has merit, especially when paired with Focus Sash to take down an opponent's counter. This works well when serving to remove checks from other offensive threats like Shellder, who share common counters with Carvanha. sentence on flip turn>psych fangs + trappers

Checks and Counters
===================
**Grass-Types**: Ferroseed's enormous defenses and typing allow it to shrug off Carvanha's attacks and easily depose of it. Giga Drain will OHKO Carvanha or Thunder Wave will cripple it. Additionally Ferroseed will be able to lay down entry hazards if it has them. Foongus is similar to Ferroseed, but must take caution against Psychic Fangs and will not survive Psychic Fangs without an Eviolite. Grookey isn't bothered by Carvanha's only priority move and can hit with Grassy Glide. With Protect however, if Grassy Terrain has is on it’s last active turn, Carvanha can Protect against Grookey and attack the following turn. If Carvanha only has one speed boost, it will still be outsped by Choice Scarfed variants. this doesn't exist

**SturdyJuice**: Onix, Magnemite and Dwebble are all threats to Carvanha with Sturdy and Berry Juice. Magnemite especially so with Recycle. While all of them take significant damage from Carvanha's attacks, they will be able to hit back and remove Carvanha. The threat from these can be mitigated by having their Berry Juice removed.

**Focus Sash Abra**: Similarly to the Sturdy-Juice example above, Carvanha cannot sustain a hit, and relies on it's speed and power to overcome it's abysmal defenses. An intact Focus Sash allows the opposing Pokemon to survive any of Carvanha's attacks and strike back. Abra in particular is a big threat, as it can OHKO with Energy Ball or Dazzling Gleam.

**Priority**: Even weaker priority moves can be threatening to Carvanha. Feint will deal damage through Protect. Mach Punch, Vacuum Wave and Quick Attack from an opponent with even a modicum of investment has the capability to absolutely cripple Carvanha.

yes, yes you can

overview
  • first sentence is fluff, delete it
  • second-to-last sentence is fluff, delete it
set
  • I ran some calcs and I disagree entirely with running Waterfall, especially for the mentioned reasons. Liquidation and Waterfall both 2HKO Pawniard, meaning it can't switch into either, and the chance to beat Spritzee is 20% if it switches into Liquidation (first hit does 12HP and if you get the Def drop second hit does 19, clean KO). A 20% chance to flinch Spritzee is not worth giving up the surprisingly higher rolls on 14 Def Eviolite mons. As such:
    • Remove Waterfall from the set and all of its mentions in the following sections.
moves
  • Protect can stall "Grassy Terrain-boosted Grassy Glide."

set details

usage tips
  • Carvanha should not realistically be switching into any attacks. please update the paragraph's beginning to reflect this.

overall
  • after you implement the rest of this, do a CTRL+F search for "flinch" "flinches" and "Waterfall" to make sure you remove every mention of them that isn't in Other Options.

Liquidation and Crunch provide nearly universal coverage, (RP, AC) as both Liquidation has and Crunch have a chance to lower the opponent's defenses; (RSC) Defense, which is valuable for forcing a switch on out bulkier switch-ins. (Crunch also has a chance for a Defense drop. I know I'm not a QC member but I thought that would be good to add.) Psychic Fangs provides coverage to take care of common Poison-types such as Foongus, Koffing and Mareanie, and Fighting-types, like Mienfoo. Protect ensures that Carvanha will almost always get a boost to its Speed stat and can be used to stall out attacks such as High Jump Kick and Grassy Glide.

Set Details

Maximum Speed and Attack ensure that Carvanha can do as much damage as possible. The leftover EVs are invested into Special Defense, (RC) to keep Porygon from gaining a Special Attack boost. Life Orb substantially improves damage output. 9 HP IVs will give Carvanha 19 HP, causing it to lose only 1 HP per turn from Life Orb.
