Chatot[GP 2/2]

[Overview]

- mediocre bird, no lasting power or bulk
- ~unique~ because it's specially based but really an inferior option for whatever you want to use it for
-particularly notable stat-wise is that it sits just under base 95s
- not a whole lot to say apart from it being really mediocre and generally not worth using if you have better things to do with your time

[SET]
name: Choice Specs
move 1: Hyper Voice
move 2: U-turn
move 3: Heat Wave
move 4: Hidden Power Ground
item: Choice Specs
nature: Timid
evs: 252 SpA / 4 SpD / 252 Spe

[SET COMMENTS]
-Chatot's only set it can perform
 • With a Choice Specs equipped, Chatot becomes a decent hit and run mon
 • Hyper Voice is the main STAB move and deals damage to shit that doesn't resist it
 • U-turn is a good move for a choice mon in general, but Chatot is SR weak so be careful not to spam it
 • Heat Wave hits steels such as metang hard
 • HP Ground lets it hit rocks and steels such as probo and bastio
[ADDITIONAL COMMENTS]
 • Timid allows it to outrun base 90s
 • hp grass hits toed and costa harder but the latter is still hit by hp ground
 • jynx and subbu brav love steels dead; chatot can lure them in
 • Best partners are those that can prevent hazards from going up; CB sawk is adept at this
 • Something that forms a voltturn core with it, probo/eelektross
[OO]
 • NP/agility as boostin moves
 • Sub
 • Taunt
 • hp flying and chatter as stab
 • tailwind
 • hp water.??
[Checks and Counters]
 • audino licky
 • Probopass bastiodon but hp ground reks
 • Faster pokes such as swellow
 • Regirock
 • average bulk and power so any moderately offensive poke can take a hit and ko

[Overview]

Chatot is a rather bad Pokemon on account of its horrible stats and poor STABs. It is rather unique in the sense that it is the only specially based Normal / Flying type in the metagame and it sits just above the base 90 Speed benchmark, but that's about it. Chatot is a decent hit-and-run special attacker, but you are better off using one of the other Flying-types in NU for any other role.

[SET]
name: Choice Specs
move 1: Hyper Voice
move 2: Heat Wave
move 3: U-turn
move 4: Hidden Power Ground
item: Choice Specs
nature: Timid
evs: 252 SpA / 4 SpD / 252 Spe

[SET COMMENTS]

This is the only set Chatot can use without being outclassed by its Flying-type brethren. With a nice Speed stat, access to U-turn, and a somewhat decent movepool, Chatot makes for a good attacker. Hyper Voice is Chatot's main STAB move, and with a Choice Specs equipped, it can hit pretty hard; for example, it is capable of 2HKOing threats such as Eelektross. Heat Wave is Chatot's move of choice against the likes of Metang, which is 2HKOed by it, as well as Ghost-types, which can take the other moves on this set easily. U-turn lets Chatot escape switch-ins that wall it cold and force them out with the appropriate Pokemon and helps maintain momentum. Hidden Power Ground is used exclusively for Probopass and Bastiodon and 2HKOes them.

[ADDITIONAL COMMENTS]

A Timid nature lets Chatot outrun 90 base Speed Pokemon and below, such as Kangaskhan and Zangoose. For alternative moves, Hidden Power Grass hits Golem, Seismitoad, and Carracosta harder, but Hidden Power Ground suffices against Golem and Carracosta and Hyper Voice has a good chance to 2HKO Seismitoad. Pokemon that appreciate Chatot's ability to weaken Steel-types, such as Arbok and Substitute + Bulk Up Braviary, make for fine partners. Choice Band Sawk is a great partner as well, as it can OHKO most Stealth Rock setters. Probopass and Eelektross form a decent VoltTurn core with Chatot, making them good options for partners as well. Skuntank is another good partner as it can trap Misdreavus; in return, Chatot can weaken Steel-types that are annoying for Skuntank to handle. Chatot can grant it a free switch by using U-turn as well.

[Other Options]

Nasty Plot can be used, but Chatot is far too frail to set up. Encore is a decent option to let Chatot set up on resisted hits, but it still takes quite a lot of damage from them. Substitute lets Chatot avoid status and being revenge killed, but Chatot isn't staying on the battlefield for long and its Substitutes are easily broken even by resisted attacks. Taunt lets Chatot shut down walls, but it cannot do much to them anyway as it loses out on important coverage. Hidden Power Flying and Chatter are options for Flying-type STAB moves. Tailwind lets Chatot boost its team's Speed, but it cannot take a hit, so has few opportunities to set it up, and is better off attacking. Hidden Power Water lets Chatot get better overall coverage than Hidden Power Grass and Hidden Power Ground, but is ineffective against most targets as unlike the previously mentioned Hidden Powers, it does not hit its targets for 4x damage. Agility is another seemingly good option as a setup move, but again, Chatot is far too frail to utilize it efficiently.

[Checks and Counters]

Stealth Rock is a great way of countering Chatot, as it limits its ability to switch in repeatedly, which is especially important due to its use of U-turn. Due to Chatot's poor bulk and mediocre offenses, it is quite easy to counter with any relatively bulky Pokemon. Audino and Lickilicky can easily take a hit from Chatot and retaliate with a STAB move of choice. Probopass and Bastiodon can switch into most of its moves, but are hit hard by Hidden Power Ground. Defensive Misdreavus is barely 3HKOed by Heat Wave and can stall Chatot out with Will-O-Wisp and Pain Split. Faster Pokemon such as Swellow can easily OHKO Chatot, but must be wary of switching in. Regirock can take any hit from it bar Hidden Power Ground and retaliate with a STAB move of choice.

I've been considering HP Water, and I think that while it is better than HP Ground overall, and has better neutral coverage than HP Grass, HP Grass should be the only one on the set. I wouldn't use any of the Hidden Powers except for specific Pokemon, so HP Water's better coverage is rather moot. There is also the fact that it barely even 2HKOs Offensive Probopass with it, so hitting them isn't exactly that extraordinary (plus you have U-turn to escape regardless). Both will hit Golem for 4x damage, but Grass also hits Seismitoad, which means that it can only switch in on Heat Wave/U-turn. HP Ground is the next best thing only to hit Bastiodon and Probopass, but GOlem/Toad are much more common. HP Water doesn't really strike at any particular targets better, and seeing as you would normally only use Hyper Voice/U-turn regardless, why not choose the options that hit specific targets massively? Those are my thoughts right now, but I'm interested to hear others.

Why is Nasty Plot not the set on this analysis? It's actually not complete garbage and is a bit usable. Even though it's frail, it can fuck up offensive stuff without boosting and can boost on the occasional bulky wall. Yeah, it gets boned by a lot of revenge killers, but it's a Chatot ffs lol.

Not qc but imo Nasty Plot Chatot (lol nasty plot and Chatot rhyme) is too frail to afford a turn of setup. The only things it can really set up on are Choice-locked Golurk, Haunter, and sometimes Sawk, but it gets screwed by everything else. Even then, it's revenge killed easily as well even after the boost. Specs is much better because you hit hard (by Chatot standards) without wasting a turn to boost and revenge killers don't matter as much because you spent your other turn doing something productive rather than set up and get your boosts wasted

Also Chatot sucks so it should only deserve one set, and Specs is better

OK, I really don't like Nasty Plot as the main focus of a set unless it was the 4th move (slashed with a Hidden Power maybe), with the focus mainly being on its decent enough offenses and Encore/Sub. This is only assuming that people support another set, as I still feel that Chatot should stick to Specs. As for the Specs set, I think the order should be Hyper Voice/U-Turn/Heat Wave/Hidden Power Grass. As for Checks and Counters, you don't have to over-exaggerate how bad Chatot is. It's bad, but it isn't checked by almost anything that exists, especially with U-turn and decent Speed. Just add in specially defensive Pokemon like Lickilicky/Audino.

Yeah, just post to tell us you made changes Kingler12345 . Otherwise QC will have to randomly decide to look through the skeleton before we know you made changes. Also, in Other Options, remove "any other HP in existence". Hidden Power is generally meant to cover specific targets that your more powerful moves cannot, and any other Hidden power that isn't already mentioned is not worth mentioning at all. Please remove it. Chatter can go in OO as a Flying STAB, perhaps alongside HP Flying (only other HP I would even consider). Tailwind is the only other move that I would place here, so OO is fine once you've implemented this. As for Checks and Counters, yes Chatot isn't good, but its not utter garbage. Remove that point and just say that Chatot is frail and can only hit moderately hard, so any moderately offensive Pokemon that can survive a hit will likely take it out.

[SET COMMENTS]

Mention Hidden Power Ground here (last bullet point) and move Hidden Power Grass to AC, and Water to OO.

[ADDITIONAL COMMENTS]

I'm sure you could add some partners here. A lot of Pokemon likes Steel-types removed (ex: Jynx, Sub+BU Braviary, Swellow) and Chatot can do that with the appropriate coverage move. Those can also help Chatot to beat faster Pokemon and weaken walls, and vice-versa.

[Checks and Counters]

Add to Probopass and Bastiodon's mention that they have to be careful with Chatot locking itself in Hidden Power Ground.

Raseri approves this, so make those changes Kingler12345 and I'll check back later :)!

[Overview]
Instead of saying that it sits below base 95, say that it beats base 90s. Otherwise, you make it sound like failing to hit the base 95 speed is a good thing, which it is not. I would also prefer if you change "It makes for a decent hit-and-run attacker with Choice Specs, but otherwise is rather useless, and you are better off using one of the other Flying-types in NU" to "Chatot is a decent hit-and-run special attacker, but you are better off using one of the other Flying-types in NU for any other role." Like I've said, there's no need to call it useless, it's not good but it isn't bad per se. Just unimpressive.

[SET COMMENTS]
Mention that Heat Wave is also the best move Chatot has to hit Ghost-types that are immune to Hyper Voice and take little/nothing from HP Ground.

[ADDITIONAL COMMENTS]
I don't really like the fact that your partners are so specific. Be sure to include some general options as well, as otherwise you make it sound as if the only teammates that work with Chatot are Jynx, SubBU Braviary, CB Sawk, Probo, and Eel. Soulgazer was actually telling you that Pokemon that appreciates Steel-types being removed were good teammates, so you should try and word it more like that, as Jynx and Braviary aren't the only ones.

[Other Options]
Encore goes here. It is one of Chatot's best moves, and should be mentioned after Nasty Plot. Agility should go last, as Chatot is far too weak to sweep teams without a boost.

[Checks and Counters]
Defensive Misdreavus should be here, even a Specs Heat Wave 3HKOs at best. Instead of mentioning being Choice locked, mention U-turn as a reason for Stealth Rock being so effective.

Make these changes and I'll stamp Kingler12345

Move order as Hyper Voice / Heat Wave / U-turn / Hidden Power Ground rather than U-turn being the second move makes more sense since this is a Specs mon. While U-turn can be nice to get momentum on random special walls, I would not consider it as useful as Heat Wave is for hitting Metang and Ghost-types since it's not nearly as spamable as those moves with its weak damage output and Chatot's SR weakness. Fix around the Set Comments to show this change as well.

I think you can also afford to be a little meaner to Chatot in that first sentence of the Overview. It's a little weird to call it rather mediocre then go on and describe its stats and STABs as horrible and poor, respectively. Plus I think we all know that Chatot is worse than "rather mediocre".

In AC you say that mons that appreciate Steel-types being removed make good partners, but I think that's that wrong way of saying it. Chatot doesn't remove Steel-types, but rather weakens them down for its partners and vice-versa. You can add Skuntank as a partner since it removes Missy who doesn't take much from Chatot's attacks and Chatot can weaken the Steel-types that wall Skunk. Plus Chatot can even U-turn on the Missy's switch to help make Skunk's job easier.

I wrote a lot but shouldn't be hard to fix so I'll just give you the stamp as well since you covered DMist's check without any problems.
