Overview:
Chimecho is mono-psychic that struggles to find a niche due because there always seems to be a pokemon that does what it wants to do better because of its below average stats

Healing Wish? Scarf Enamorus or Gardevoir does it better, bulky CM sets? Cresselia has same typing, ability and 2x as bulky

Nevertheless it does have a colorful movepool and some rare moves for a Psychic like Heal Bell (only it and Chansey line gets it) Knock Off and Healing Wish

Pros:
  • Good utility moves
  • Reliable recovery
  • Levitate lets it safely switch in a spikes heavy metagame
Cons:
  • Passive
  • Stats are underwhelming
  • Outclassed at anything it wants to do
  • Mono psychic leaves alot to be desired defensively

Potential Teras:
Levitate + Tera can give it interesting defensive profiles but its not advised to Tera it as most of the time youre going to use it as a healing wish bot

  • Fairy flips the Dark resist while keeping the Fighting resistance. And to top that all off youre immune to Dragon and Ground, making you completely wall common OU threats like Garchomp, Great Tusk, Landorus-T
  • Steel gives a ton of resistances and a toxic immunity, allowing u to wall pokemon like Toxapex, Gliscor
  • Poison allows u to still wall Great Tusk while having a better matchup vs Fairies

Sample Sets:

Utility @ Leftovers / Kasib Berry / Colbur Berry
Ability: Levitate
Tera Type: Fairy / Steel
EVs: 252 HP / 252 Def / 4 SpA
Bold Nature
IVs: 0 Atk
- Healing Wish
- Psychic
- Recover
- Knock Off / Heal Bell / Thunder Wave

You dont want to be using this pokemon as its completely outclassed by scarf Enamorus as a Healing Wish user. But if you insist this is probably the set you want to use, Knock is preferable to Twave to cripple any Gholdengo/Garga or Ground types on the switch

Bulky CM @ Leftovers / Covert Cloak
Ability: Levitate
Tera Type: Fairy
EVs: 252 HP / 252 Def / 4 SpA
Bold Nature
IVs: 0 Atk
- Calm Mind
- Psyshock
- Draining Kiss
- Recover

This set relies on tera. Since it got Draining Kiss you could maybe use a bulky set up set similar to Hatterene

With fairy + levitate you can surprisingly set up on a ton of pokemon like Landorus, Great Tusk, Garchomp, non CB Tyranitar. Covert Cloak allows you to further set up on Garganacl and Scald as well

I still dont recommend it as its still weak even after boosts, its vulnerable to status, lets in strong pokemon like Kingambit for free..etc

Other options:
You could be using a full cleric set without healing wish but its defensive stats + typing does not allow it to wall anything in OU. Trick Room is also an option but again not in this tier because there are far too many better trick room setters here

Conclusion:
Dont use Chimecho its outclassed at anything it does in OU. Even its best niche of Healing Wish isnt all that great because we already have good HW users

Maybe itll find a niche in PU again due to rarity of the move, until then just wait for it to drop

Again, why hasn't gamefreak given chimecho an evolution yet, its got the tools to do something unique/neat like dunsparce but just absolutely does not have any good stats. The inspiration for an evo is also there, being based off the Japanese furin wind chime, which are often used to ward off evil spirits. Like they have the inspiration to give it a really cool evo, like a friendly furin spirit that becomes ghost/fairy or something in that vein, but gamefreak just hasn't done it yet.

Hopefully in the next few games chimecho gets its long deserved evolution, as Chimecho is begging for it, as much as we all love the little wind chime...

Hopefully. Gamefreak definitely seems to be on the "give underwhelming pokemon evos" train for quite a while now so lets its just a matter of time of when can it get it

I do expect it to find a niche in lower tiers though because tera + levitate can be a good wincon especially with the new draining kiss and it can function on trick room teams as a budget cresselia with TR + healing wish

They did buff it as early as gen 7 so I’m not surprised it hasn’t gotten an evolution yet.
