With Magmortar and Pyroar being banned From PU, Combusken has become the top Fire-type in the tier. It has great neutral coverage with its Fire / Fighting STAB moves, albeit inaccurate, with a Hidden Power of choice for resistances like Altaria and Swanna and its Z-move options hitting bulky foes like Lanturn and Mesprit. However, due to Combusken's mediocre offensive stats, it often requires a good amount of prior damage to pick up these KOs, which it why it serves best as a late-game cleaner. Speed Boost furthers this, making Combusken difficult to revenge kill while helping with its low Speed. Alongside Protect, it enables Combusken to get a virtually free Speed boost, and at +1 with a Timid nature, Combusken outspeeds non-Choice Scarf variants of foes like Jynx, Liepard and Manectric; however, it can also go Modest for more power and Speed tie with Oricorio. Wallbreakers like Stoutland and Aggron make good teammates, as they can help weaken bulky foes and the rest of the opposing team for Combusken. Similarly, hazard setters like Mesprit, Froslass, and Qwilfish can wear down foes and put them in KO range.

With Pyroar being banned from PU, Combusken has become the top Fire-type in PU (ig you could also say because of mag ban too). It has a great ability in Speed Boost, which helps make up for its lacking natural Speed stat, and alongside Protect and a Timid nature allows it to outspeed up to base 106's, or lose out on base 95's for some extra power with Modest (anyone reading this is gonna like, not know speed tiers. mention some mons). STAB combination, albeit inaccurate, with Fire Blast and Focus Blast, allowing it to hit most of the meta for neutral if not super-effective damage (stops rock types being a good check to it). The few things that do resist it such as Altaria, Qwilfish, and Swanna have to watch out for its choice of coverage between Hidden Power Ice and Hidden Power Electric, while bulkier foes like Lanturn and Mesprit can be taken out by one of its Z-moves (qwil doesn't exactly want to deal with special busken anyways, nor does swanna altho it does check it better. both hate z move versions) (but is lant really taken out by a zmove into focus blast, i think not). However, due to Comusken's only decent Special Attack, many foes require a good amount of previously acquired damage to be KOed (simplify to chip damage, give one or two examples. lant is a great one tbh given what i said earlier). It is because of this that Combusken is best utilized as a late-game cleaner, picking off weakened foes while gaining Speed. Hazards are a good way to weaken said foes, so setters like Mesprit, Froslass, and Qwilfish make good teammates.
