computer help for doomsday

hi. I hope that it's alright to post this as a single thread instead of posting in cloud's guide, but I wanted to attract attentions anyway.
I have two drives; one reads and burns cds, and the other one supposedly reads dvds and cds. The problem is, the dvd drive isn't reading a thing at all. I put the cd/dvd there, i hear a faint sound of it rotating (or maybe it isn't rotating. i really can't figure out if this drive is silent or just isn't reading it at all), and the computer doesn't recognize a thing. it doesn't auto-start and it won't read it even if I click the little icon in "My computer" (you know, D:, E:, etc. i'm sure that has a specific name but i don't know it).
Also, one more thing that gets me suspicious is that I'm supposed to have two drives like I mentioned earlier, one for cds and the other one for dvds. And if I go to "My computer".... http://i3.photobucket.com/albums/y64/jujuca/drives.png

I have played with daemon tools before but I made sure I unmounted all my virtual drives. So um, help!!!!!

first of all, try seeing if your operating system can at all communicate with the drive. right click the drive letter in My Computer and click eject to perform a software eject. if this happens, then most likely the drive lens is dusty. if this doesn't, open the cabinet and secure the power and data cables. see if it works.

alright with irc help from ryubahamut and tts I have managed to fix my extra drives problem. tomorrow i'm gonna check my dvd drive and see if the len is either dusty or broken.
