can we use viable pokemon as both examples and parts of the core please?
AV magmortar was always an extremely subpar pokemon, and with no venomoth it just loses whatever minuscule niche it had
and clefairy just isn't good; it's way too dependent on eviolite to function, has competion with more competant fairy-types, and its extreme passivity and subpar stats in general prevent it from functioning efficiently
Seismitoad @ Leftovers
Ability: Water Absorb
EVs: 248 HP / 252 Def / 8 SpD
Relaxed Nature
- Stealth Rock
- Scald
- Earthquake
- Toxic
Seismatoads is a large threat to this core as its bulk and spectacular typing allows it to live any unboosted attack fantastically well and hit back with an Earthquake or even Toxic the Samurott to add more passive damage when paired with Life Orb recoil.
Samurott
252+ Atk Life Orb Samurott Megahorn vs. 248 HP / 252+ Def Seismitoad: 135-160 (32.6 - 38.7%) -- 5.6% chance to 3HKO after Leftovers recovery
0 Atk Seismitoad Earthquake vs. 0 HP / 4 Def Samurott: 118-139 (35.6 - 41.9%) -- guaranteed 3HKO
Jolteon
252 SpA Life Orb Jolteon Signal Beam vs. 248 HP / 8 SpD Seismitoad: 118-140 (28.5 - 33.8%) -- 98.9% chance to 4HKO after Leftovers recovery
0 Atk Seismitoad Earthquake vs. 0 HP / 4 Def Jolteon: 308-366 (113.6 - 135%) -- guaranteed OHKO
The cool part about Quagsire is that it works even if Samurott has already had the chance to set up. Quag can Toxic + Recover stall Samurott and OHKOes Jolteon. I generally run mixed defense on Quag (252 HP / 108 Def / 148 SpD Relaxed), but Samurott's the bigger threat in this case. The only way that this core beats Quag is by hax from Waterfall or Signal Beam.
0 Atk Quagsire Earthquake vs. 120 HP / 0 Def Samurott: 109-129 (30.1 - 35.7%) -- 31.2% chance to 3HKO
252+ Atk Life Orb Samurott Waterfall vs. 252 HP / 252+ Def Quagsire: 125-148 (31.7 - 37.5%) -- 0.1% chance to 3HKO after Leftovers recovery
0 Atk Quagsire Earthquake vs. 0 HP / 4 Def Jolteon: 284-336 (104.7 - 123.9%) -- guaranteed OHKO
252 SpA Life Orb Jolteon Signal Beam vs. 252 HP / 4 SpD Quagsire: 134-159 (34 - 40.3%) -- 40.3% chance to 3HKO after Leftovers recovery
Nithing much needs to be said about how Sub-CM Virizion goes with this core. It tramples any Ground-Water type as well as luring in Tangrowth (major check to Samurrott) and surprising it with a special attack. Samurott also helps with Fletchinder for Virizion as a Life orb Aqua Jet outspeeds Acrobatics and does massive damage.
252 SpA Life Orb Virizion Focus Blast vs. 248 HP / 8 SpD Tangrowth: 339-399 (84.1 - 99%) -- guaranteed 2HKO after Leftovers recovery
252+ Atk Life Orb Samurott Aqua Jet vs. 152 HP / 0 Def Fletchinder: 252-299 (83.1 - 98.6%) -- guaranteed 2HKO
What's a good way to deal with Water / Ground type checks? Grass types. Click Leaf Storm. Watch them die. Regenerator lets it come in repeatedly to chase Quag / Toad off and make Toxic less annoying. The only thing that Tangrowth has to worry about is Sludge Bomb variants of Toad, which can hit Tangrowth on the switch and outspeed and KO the next turn.
252+ SpA Life Orb Tangrowth Leaf Storm vs. 252 HP / 4 SpD Quagsire: 1518-1794 (385.2 - 455.3%) -- guaranteed OHKO
252+ SpA Life Orb Tangrowth Leaf Storm vs. 248 HP / 8 SpD Seismitoad: 1357-1596 (328.5 - 386.4%) -- guaranteed OHKO
0 SpA Seismitoad Sludge Bomb vs. 132 HP / 0 SpD Tangrowth: 196-232 (52.4 - 62%) -- guaranteed 2HKO
Durant @ Choice Scarf
Ability: Hustle
EVs: 252 Atk / 4 SpD / 252 Spe
Jolly Nature
- Iron Head
- X-Scissor
- Superpower
- Baton Pass
Tyrantrum @ Life Orb
Ability: Strong Jaw
EVs: 252 Atk / 4 SpD / 252 Spe
Jolly Nature
- Head Smash
- Earthquake
- Outrage
- Rock Polish
This is a offensive core I love using with Vivilion. Vivilion can weaken opposing Steelix or Rhyperior or Seisamatoad that Tyrantrum and Durant hates with Hurracane or once down to its Focus Sash Endeavour on the opposing mom to weaken them.
Tyrantrum @ Choice Scarf
Ability: Rock Head
EVs: 252 Atk / 252 Spe / 4 Def
Jolly Nature
- Head Smash
- Outrage
- Superpower
- Earthquake / Sleep Talk
Tyrantrum is extremely threatening to this core, being able to outspeed 2 out of 3 mons while 2hkoing or Ohkoing every mon of the core. However, it cannot switch into anything
Sneasel @ Life Orb
Ability: Inner Focus
EVs: 252 Atk / 4 SpD / 252 Spe
Jolly Nature
IVs: 29 HP
- Ice Shard
- Knock Off
- Low Kick
- Icicle Crash
Cant switch into any of the mons in this core but neither of them can switch into this cutie monster. Sneasel destroys vivillon with its ice STAB and it has a really solid chance of OHKO tyrantrum after stealth rock damage. Durant cant switch into it freely due to the fear of getting its scarf knocked off, and knock off 2hko durant after stealth rock damage even with no item.
252 Atk Life Orb Sneasel Icicle Crash vs. 4 HP / 0 Def Tyrantrum: 252-299 (82.3 - 97.7%) -- 68.8% chance to OHKO after Stealth Rock (need to be at full to have a chance to live)
252 Atk Life Orb Sneasel Icicle Crash vs. 0 HP / 0 Def Vivillon: 507-595 (168.4 - 197.6%) -- guaranteed OHKO
252 Atk Life Orb Sneasel Knock Off (97.5 BP) vs. 0 HP / 4 Def Durant: 152-179 (59.1 - 69.6%) -- guaranteed 2HKO after Stealth Rock
252 Atk Life Orb Sneasel Knock Off vs. 0 HP / 4 Def Durant: 101-121 (39.2 - 47%) -- 32.4% chance to 2HKO after Stealth Rock
Play around this carefully. The core doesnt outright lose to it, but still a solid threat.
Scarf Delphox is a nice threat to the core, killing Vivillion and Durant with the fire STAB and hitting hard Tyrantrum with Psychic or Dazzling Gleam. It can also live an hit from Durant without prior damage (the damage of X-Scissor is around 77-91%), and can win 1v1 againist Vivillion if lucky with the sleep turns. A problem might be that Delphox can't OHKO Tyrantrum with Dazzling Gleam even with rocks up, so you might need to play good with predictions there. Otherwise this is a nice threat to the core :)
Reserving Scarf Final Gambit Accelgor jk lol
Offensive Defog Flygon
Flygon @ Life Orb
Ability: Levitate
EVs: 4 Def / 252 SpA / 252 Spe
Timid Nature
- Draco Meteor
- Earth Power
- Defog
- Fire Blast
Offensive Defog set (standard) handles this core quite nicely. It hits every pokemon for super effective damage as well outspeeding two out of three of the core. To handle vivilon it either needs to have rocks up or get lucky with sleep turns. Flygon can OHKO tyrantrum and also outspeed as long as it hasn't rock polished yet. Its able to with stand a hit from durant and revenge kill with fire blast. Its not a switch into the pokemon but offensive Defog Flygon gives the core trouble and comes in and revenge kill easily.
Calcs
252 SpA Life Orb Flygon Earth Power vs. 0 HP / 4 SpD Tyrantrum: 421-499 (138 - 163.6%) -- guaranteed OHKO
252 SpA Life Orb Flygon Fire Blast vs. 0 HP / 0 SpD Durant: 806-951 (313.6 - 370%) -- guaranteed OHKO (Lol)
252 SpA Life Orb Flygon Fire Blast vs. 0 HP / 4 SpD Vivillon: 387-458 (128.5 - 152.1%) -- guaranteed OHKO (sash so it wont OHKO)
Defensive
+1 252 SpA Vivillon Hurricane vs. 0 HP / 0 SpD Flygon: 253-298 (84 - 99%) -- guaranteed 2HKO
252 Atk Hustle Durant Iron Head vs. 0 HP / 4 Def Flygon: 208-246 (69.1 - 81.7%) -- guaranteed 2HKO
252 Atk Tyrantrum Outrage vs. 0 HP / 4 Def Flygon: 446-528 (148.1 - 175.4%) -- guaranteed OHKO
Tyrantrum @ Choice Band
Ability: Rock Head
EVs: 252 Atk / 252 Spe / 4 Def
Adamant Nature
- Head Smash
- Outrage
- Superpower
- Earthquake / Sleep Talk
252+ Atk Choice Band Tyrantrum Head Smash vs. 252 HP / 252+ Def Alomomola: 319-376 (59.7 - 70.4%) -- guaranteed 2HKO after Leftovers recovery
Tyrantrum slaughters this core, it even comes in on Roselia basically freely and just punishes everything on the team. Granted a team utilizing this core will almost always a Mega Lix however the core itself is dominanted by Trum.
Durant @ Lum Berry
Ability: Hustle
EVs: 252 Atk / 4 Def / 252 Spe
Jolly Nature
- Hone Claws
- X-Scissor
- Iron Head
- Superpower
Hone Claws Durant is an absolutely massive threat to this core. It can switch in on Roselia pretty much for free, and can find opportunities to switch into the other members of the core as well (it can switch in and beat Alomomola 1v1 if it comes in on anything except Waterfall, and it's capable of switching into Meloetta's Psyshock as well). After switching in safely, Durant can proceed to set up a Hone Claws or two and rip right through the core, and there really isn't much the core can do about it.
Alomomola
0 Atk Alomomola Waterfall vs. 0 HP / 4 Def Durant: 61-73 (23.7 - 28.4%) -- 96.3% chance to 4HKO
Roselia
0 SpA Roselia Giga Drain vs. 0 HP / 0 SpD Durant: 36-42 (14 - 16.3%) -- possible 7HKO

Drapion @ Black Sludge
Ability: Battle Armor
EVs: 248 HP / 216 SpD / 44 Spe
Careful Nature
- Knock Off
- Taunt
- Toxic Spikes
- Pursuit / Whirlwind
Drapion's really good at breaking down this core. It prevents all three of them from supporting one another, Knock Off makes Alomomola and Roselia easier to take down with partners, and can Knock Off and / or Pursuit Meloetta. Whirlwind helps prevent the intended target of a Wish if Drapion switched in on Alomomola. Once Roselia has been taken out, it can use Toxic Spikes and Whirlwind to break down Alomomola. With everything that Drapion does, the damage it deals is somewhat less important than how much it can endure and disrupt this core, which is quite a lot.
0 SpA Roselia Giga Drain vs. 248 HP / 216+ SpD Drapion: 36-43 (10.4 - 12.5%) -- possibly the worst move ever
0 Atk Alomomola Waterfall vs. 248 HP / 0 Def Drapion: 63-75 (18.3 - 21.8%) -- possible 6HKO after Black Sludge recovery
0+ SpA Meloetta Shadow Ball vs. 248 HP / 216+ SpD Drapion: 35-41 (10.2 - 11.9%) -- possibly the worst move ever
+1 0+ SpA Meloetta Shadow Ball vs. 248 HP / 216+ SpD Drapion: 52-62 (15.1 - 18%) -- possible 7HKO after Stealth Rock and Black Sludge recovery
+2 0+ SpA Meloetta Shadow Ball vs. 248 HP / 216+ SpD Drapion: 70-82 (20.4 - 23.9%) -- possible 5HKO after Stealth Rock and Black Sludge recovery
0 Atk Drapion Knock Off (97.5 BP) vs. 252 HP / 172 Def Eviolite Roselia: 90-106 (29.6 - 34.8%) -- guaranteed 3HKO after Stealth Rock
0 Atk Drapion Knock Off (97.5 BP) vs. 120 HP / 136+ Def Alomomola: 90-106 (17.9 - 21.1%) -- possible 6HKO after Stealth Rock and Leftovers recovery
0 Atk Drapion Knock Off (97.5 BP) vs. 252 HP / 240 Def Meloetta: 182-216 (45 - 53.4%) -- 87.5% chance to 2HKO after Stealth Rock and Leftovers recovery
0 Atk Drapion Knock Off vs. 252 HP / 240 Def Meloetta: 122-146 (30.1 - 36.1%) -- guaranteed 3HKO after Stealth Rock
Soul (Spiritomb) @ Leftovers
Ability: Infiltrator
Shiny: Yes
EVs: 252 HP / 252 Def / 4 SpD
Bold Nature
- Calm Mind
- Dark Pulse
- Rest
- Sleep Talk
Spiritomb can setup in any mon of the core and just wins It don't even care about being statused bc It can just Rest and recovery health they basically can't touch tomb.
0- SpA Alomomola Scald vs. 252 HP / 4 SpD Spiritomb: 36-43 (11.8 - 14.1%) -- possibly the worst move ever

+6 0 SpA Spiritomb Dark Pulse vs. 120 HP / 252 SpD Alomomola: 399-471 (79.6 - 94%) -- guaranteed 2HKO after Leftovers recovery
Shiftry is a nice threat to this core, with Knock Off and Leaf Storm pressuring Meloetta, Roselia and Alomomola respectively, the core is really weak to this monster! Shiftry on the other hand isn't scared by nothing bar Roselia's Sludge Bomb, and if gets a switch on one between Meloetta or Alomomola it will probably take a kill! EVs spread is made to beat the core easily
132 SpA Life Orb Shiftry Leaf Storm vs. 120 HP / 252+ SpD Alomomola: 439-517 (87.6 - 103.1%) -- guaranteed OHKO after Stealth Rock
192+ Atk Life Orb Shiftry Knock Off (97.5 BP) vs. 252 HP / 240+ Def Meloetta: 307-367 (75.9 - 90.8%) -- 25% chance to OHKO after Stealth Rock
192+ Atk Life Orb Shiftry Knock Off (97.5 BP) vs. 252 HP / 172 Def Eviolite Roselia: 168-199 (55.2 - 65.4%) -- guaranteed 2HKO after Stealth Rock
Delphox is a decent threat in the core by being able to OHKO both Scrafty and Steelix, and 2HKO Sigilyph (which doesn't matter as its Sashed anyways). It can also outspeed the entire core including a +2 Scrafty, making it an excellent revenge killer against this core. While it does rely on a good damage roll to OHKO Steelix, it still leaves a large enough dent to allow another Poke to clean up.
252+ SpA Delphox Fire Blast vs. 0 HP / 0 SpD Sigilyph: 217-256 (76.1 - 89.8%) -- guaranteed 2HKO
252+ SpA Delphox Fire Blast vs. 252 HP / 76+ SpD Mega Steelix: 318-374 (89.8 - 105.6%) -- 37.5% chance to OHKO
252+ SpA Delphox Dazzling Gleam vs. 0 HP / 4 SpD Scrafty: 312-368 (115.1 - 135.7%) -- guaranteed OHKO
Virizion @ Lum Berry
Ability: Justified
EVs: 252 Atk / 4 SpD / 252 Spe
Jolly Nature
- Stone Edge
- Close Combat
- Leaf Blade
- Swords Dance
Virizion is pretty threatening to this core, nothing can switch on him and in 1v1 they fail to OHKO him. If it's holding a lum berry, Sigi can't cripple him with twave, and Virizion can 2HKO back with stone edge.
Slowking @ Leftovers
Ability: Regenerator
EVs: 252 HP / 252 Def / 4 SpAtt
Bold Nature
IVs: 0 Atk
- Psyshock
- Scald
- Calm Mind
- Slack Off
Steelix-Mega @ Steelixite
Ability: Sturdy
EVs: 252 HP / 76 Atk / 96 SpD / 84 Spe
Careful Nature
- Earthquake
- Heavy Slam
- Stealth Rock
- Toxic
Some new drops came down from UU one of them being Slowking so here's a pretty standard core featuring Mega -Lix and Slowking. Slowking resisting Fighting and Water-Types for Mega-Lix.
Tangrowth @ Life Orb
Ability: Regenerator
EVs: 132 HP / 252 SpA / 124 Spe
Modest Nature
- Sleep Powder
- Leaf Storm
- Focus Blast
- Knock Off
Tangrowth is pretty threatening to this core, can come on both mons without much problem and can hit hard with Leaf Storm or it can just put something to sleep. Regenerator allows Tangro to pressure the core in the long run, giving him health back when it switches.
By the way grass types and Houndoom look pretty threatening to this core. Fire types can generally be a nice addition to the core, especially Emboar fits particularly well this because his typing allows him to check really well Doom. And core, on the other hand, supports particularly well Emboar, with Slowking being able to setup on Emboar's checks and Toxic Steelix crippling bulky waters.
