Adamant Nature

AV Azu is a pretty good compliment to this core. It is a bulky Fairy, finishing off a DSF core. It also keeps the Mega slot open. This particular core also lacks a Water resist and having a solid one helps a lot, even if Azu hates Scald burns. AV Azu also pack a punch even without CB or BD and Knock Off can helps deter some common switches.

Clefable @ Leftovers
Ability: Magic Guard
EVs: 252 HP / 172 Def / 84 SpD
Calm Nature
IVs: 0 Atk
- Thunder Wave
- Calm Mind
- Moonblast
- Soft-Boiled

Clefable is an amazing partner for this core, besides completing the ever common and efficient DFS core, it provides the core with a Mega Sableye answer, speed control in the form of thunder wave so mega altaria and mega charizard X become a bit easier to handle, a status absorber and a win condition to take advantage of the hazards. Clefable natural bulk and typing let it get to +1 spD rather easily and this allow it to deal with most electric types, besides nasty plot thundurus, in a pinch and provide a blanket check to a lot of stuff. A cool addition to the core.

Diancie @ Diancite
Ability: Clear Body
EVs: 64 HP / 16 Atk / 252 SpA / 176 Spe
Rash Nature
- Rock Polish
- Moonblast
- Diamond Storm
- Earth Power

When paired with Garchomp and Skarmory, M-Diancie completes yet another DFS core and gets rid of many mons that threaten Garchomp and Skarmory such as MegaZard-X and Y, Kyurem-B, M-Altaria, Keldeo, M-Sableye, opposing Garchomp, Hydreigon, Talonflame (especially stallbreaking ones) and after a RP under its belt, it can also outspeed and deal with faster threats (or at least, just as fast) like Raikou after some prior damage, Thundurus, Lati@s (scarfed or not), Starmie, MegaMan and scarfed Keldeo. In return, Garchomp and Skarmory deal with numerours Steel-types such as MegaGross, (Mega) Scizor, Ferrothorn and others. In addition, Diancie can bounce back status, Taunts, entry hazards and phazing moves due to its Mega ability Magic Bounce. Probably not the best partner, but I still think it's a pretty good addition for this core.

gardevoir-mega.gif

Gardevoir @ Gardevoirite
Ability: Trace
EVs: 24 Def / 232 SAtk / 252 Spe
Timid Nature
- Calm Mind
- Psyshock / Psychic
- Focus Blast
- Hyper Voice

Let me introduce you guys to the balance killer. Remember when people stopped using Gardevoir because Mega Altaria exists? Well, they made a mistake. See, Mega Gardevoir is pretty much nonexistent right now, so its vastly under-prepared for, especially Calm Mind variants. However, its a huge mistake on their part because CM Gardevoir literally rips fat teams to shreds. There is literally nothing in the game that wants to switch into Gardevoir to begin with (okay, Mega Scizor can but shh), and even those that may be able to barely live are taken out because this monster is paired with Spikes support, which turns a multitude of 2HKOes into OHKOes. I'm not even joking. Ferrothorn and Heatran, both /okay/ (tho not really) checks to Gardevoir, lose to an unboosted Focus Blast after Rocks and a Spike (3 Spikes in Ferro's case). And if Gardevoir gets up a Calm Mind on the switch, well, rip in pepperonis because your opponent no longer has a Ferrothorn. Basically, unless you have a faster mon or a 2 mons with strong priority (unless u have Scizor / Talon, then you're good. Kinda.), you're gonna lose to a competent player, plain and simple. Modest also gives you more power so that is an option if you have a good form of speed control.

Oh, yeah, Gardevoir also forms a Steel / Dragon / Fairy core with the other two so that's also neat.

Relevant Calcs:

232 SpA Mega Gardevoir Focus Blast vs. 252 HP / 168 SpD Ferrothorn: 236-278 (67 - 78.9%) -- 81.3% chance to OHKO after Stealth Rock and 3 layers of Spikes
+1 232 SpA Mega Gardevoir Focus Blast vs. 252 HP / 168 SpD Ferrothorn: 352-416 (100 - 118.1%) -- guaranteed OHKO
232 SpA Pixilate Mega Gardevoir Hyper Voice vs. 252 HP / 96+ SpD Clefable: 202-238 (51.2 - 60.4%) -- 91.4% chance to 2HKO after Leftovers recovery
(Yeah, Unaware Clefable loses to this thing too)

Hazard stack core, spinblock. Someone will undoubtedly take Bisharp too. spdef skarm takes on the fairies that trouble sable and garchomp p.well too. also stops hazards from coming up on your side.

A couple days later and I finally updated the OP with top 3 partners from last week. <.< I'll be faster with choosing the ones for this week when it's done, promise.

I've also used a hide tag for the Past Cores Archive since it's starting to get a little big.

Reminder that this cycle ends on Monday so any more partner nominations need to be done before then.

Of course pokemon that can kill both Garchomp and Skarmory pretty easily (Charizard, Thundurus, Starmie) are very annoying but since this core is based around hazards stacking it is important that you can 1. set up your hazards and 2. keep your hazards on the field

Threats to this core were mainly pokemon that could defeat both and prevent them from getting up their hazards because they are forced out, but it will still leave the incoming pokemon unharmed. Another thing many people seem to forget is that stallbreakers, and Taunt users in general, also really annoy this core. Fairy types are of course great partners but they still leave you vulnerable to Mew, Talonflame and Gengar with Taunt, while Charizard X and Mega Altaria are still big threats.
Another important thing about this core is to keep the hazads you laid on the field. There are two ways to do this
1. Have a pokemon that threaten most defoggers. This is also great with the hazards, as you can threaten the pokemon 1v1 and the switchins are crippled by hazards. One example would be Kyurem-B, who can threaten defoggers such as Mandibuzz and Zapdos while also beating Thundurus, Manectric and Raikou. Pokemon that switch in against Kyurem-B, like Scizor and Ferrothorn, are crippled by spikes and stealth rock.
2. Taunt. Pretty obvious, a fast Taunt prevents Defog and also beats defensive cores. Bisharp and Serperior are also options to discourage the use of Defog, but they fail to beat many of the threats to this core so I will ignore them.

I decided to go for the second one (anyone who reads this can now steal Kyurem-B :toast:) and my choice was Heatran.
485.gif

Heatran @ Chople Berry
EVs: 252 SpA / 4 SpD / 252 Spe
Timid Nature
- Magma Storm / Fire Blast
- Earth Power
- Stone Edge / Flash Cannon
- Taunt

Heatran gives the core support on many different points. First of all, Taunt prevents pokemon such as Zapdos and Mew from using Defog, which helps keeping the hazards up. It is a nice switchin against non-eq Mega Altaria and non-eq Zard X, who are both big threats to the core and it beats electric types like Raikou, Thundurus and Mega Manectric. It also helps with a big threat to the core which is Taunt. Heatran beats Taunt Talonflame (if Stone Edge) Mew, Thundurus and Gengar (the latter two because of Chople Berry) which is a very big advantage over other pokemon. Stone Edge helps against Taunt Talonflame and Charizard Y (Chople Berry means you can live a Focus Blast) while Flash Cannon is a better option to beat Mega Altaria, Kyurem-B and Clefable.

Heatran does have its disadvantages. The core is still weak to water type wallbreakers, such as offensive Mega Slowbro, Starmie and Azumarill. Heatran also gives both Excadrill and Starmie the opportunity to rapid spin the hazards away as it is forced out by them. Don't want to make a whole team or anything but as a 4th teammate you can use pokemon such as Mega Scizor, Kyurem-B and Tangrowth who work really well with the core and also love seeing their checks being worn down by hazards.

Since this core is pretty weak to Heavy Special Attacking Pokemon such as LO Starmie, Kyu-Black etc. I think the basic Chansey would be a good partner.

Chansey (F) @ Eviolite
Ability: Natural Cure

Ok, this cycle has ended and we're no longer discussing Garchomp + Skarmory. Thank you all once again for your contributions.

Here's the new core:

altaria-mega.gif

Altaria @ Altarianite
Ability: Natural Cure
EVs: 252 Atk / 4 Def / 252 Spe
Adamant Nature
- Dragon Dance
- Return
- Earthquake
- Roost

manaphy.gif

Manaphy @ Leftovers
Ability: Hydration
EVs: 96 HP / 248 SpA / 164 Spe
Timid Nature
- Tail Glow
- Scald
- Energy Ball
- Hidden Power [Fire]

This offensive core utilizes Manaphy as the primary wallbreaker while Altaria plays the cleaner. Manaphy can beat the steel types that beat Altaria 1v1 such as Mega Scizor and Skarmory while also luring Ferrothorn. It also beats bulky waters such as Slowbro and Suicune with Energy Ball. In return, Altaria can set up on a lot of the grass and electric types that threaten Manaphy. If you intend to change the core come the partners stage, Psychic on Manaphy is a good option to beat Mega Venusaur.

Good Cores post

Time to discuss threats to this core. We'll start discussing partners on Thursday.

Altaria @ Altarianite
Ability: Natural Cure
EVs: 80 HP / 252 Atk / 176 Spe
Jolly Nature
- Dragon Dance
- Return
- Earthquake
- Roost

Outspeeds and OHKOs Altaria, and easily sets up on Manaphy, only fearing a Scald burn or just outright 2HKOs it with Return. If Manaphy Tail Glows on the switch it can actually win, either through Scald burn or a 2HKO if SR are up since it outspeeds, and even if Altaria DDs next turn, Return doesn't OHKO Manaphy. Jolly Mega Altaria doesn't handle the core perfectly since it can't 100% reliably switch into any member, but it beats both 1v1 regardless.

252 Atk Pixilate Mega Altaria Return vs. 0 HP / 4 Def Mega Altaria: 356-420 (122.3 - 144.3%) -- guaranteed OHKO

252+ Atk Pixilate Mega Altaria Return vs. 96 HP / 0 Def Manaphy: 211-250 (57.8 - 68.4%) -- guaranteed 2HKO after Leftovers recovery
+1 252 Atk Pixilate Mega Altaria Return vs. 96 HP / 0 Def Manaphy: 289-342 (79.1 - 93.6%) -- guaranteed 2HKO after Leftovers recovery

252 SpA Manaphy Scald vs. 80 HP / 0 SpD Mega Altaria: 52-62 (16.7 - 19.9%) -- possible 5HKO after Stealth Rock
+3 252 SpA Manaphy Scald vs. 80 HP / 0 SpD Mega Altaria: 131-154 (42.1 - 49.5%) -- 85.9% chance to 2HKO after Stealth Rock

Although it can't switch in, Gengar outspeeds both Pokemon and can threaten them with its STAB moves (Mega Altaria is OHKOed by Sludge Wave while Manaphy is 2HKOed by the same move).

252 SpA Life Orb Gengar Sludge Wave vs. 0 HP / 0 SpD Mega Altaria: 390-460 (134 - 158%) -- guaranteed OHKO

ditto.gif

Ditto @ Choice Scarf
Trait: Imposter
EVs: 248 HP / 8 SDef / 252 Spd
IVs: 0 Atk / 30 Def (I think that's HP Ice? Showdown isn't working atm so I can't check)
Timid Nature (+Spd, -Atk)
- Transform

Ditto not only has the ability to revenge kill both TG Manaphy and DD Altaria through their own moves that deal SE damage to themselves (after a boost in the case of Manaphy) but also scares the opponent away from actually boosting in the first place. For those that may not know, Ditto not only copies stat boosts but also is guaranteed to outspeed the Pokemon in front of it while holding a Choice Scarf. Thus, Ditto can easily revenge kill both Manaphy and DD Altaria and can even use their boosts to its advantage by potentially sweeping the opponents team. Setting up becomes quite dangerous if the opponent has a Ditto in the back.

....

Okay but really:

gardevoir-mega.gif

Gardevoir @ Gardevoirite
Trait: Trace
EVs: 88 HP / 252 SAtk / 168 Spd
Timid Nature (+Spd, -Atk)
- Calm Mind
- Hyper Voice
- Focus Blast / Wish
- Shadow Ball / Protect

Since I couldn't really find something that can both switch into as well as beat both Altaria and HP Fire Manaphy at the same time (edit: dang it SketchUp, M-Venu is perf), I decided to post something that can seriously threaten both. After only 1 Calm Mind, Gardevoir can OHKO both members of the core and can switch into Manaphy, even as it Tail Glows (given that you're at 100%). This Gardevoir is specifically designed to outspeed the given Manaphy set so that it can do one of two things--live a +3 Scald and then Mega Evolve and Hyper Voice and then Hyper Voice again to 2HKO:

+3 248 SpA Manaphy Scald vs. 88 HP / 0 SpD Mega Gardevoir: 210-247 (70.2 - 82.6%) -- guaranteed 2HKO
252 SpA Pixilate Mega Gardevoir Hyper Voice vs. 96 HP / 0 SpD Manaphy: 229-270 (62.7 - 73.9%) -- guaranteed 2HKO after Leftovers recovery

--or if it's already Mega Evolved, set up a Calm Mind on the +3 Scald and then OHKO (after a bit of damage, unfortunately. but that's realistic enough):

+3 248 SpA Manaphy Scald vs. +1 88 HP / 0 SpD Mega Gardevoir: 141-166 (47.1 - 55.5%) -- 74.2% chance to 2HKO
+1 252 SpA Pixilate Mega Gardevoir Hyper Voice vs. 96 HP / 0 SpD Manaphy: 342-403 (93.6 - 110.4%) -- 62.5% chance to OHKO

If Manaphy is at 100%, you can go for 2 Calm Minds, but you'd be at a much lower % and have a higher chance to end up with a burn.

Beating Altaria (before it Dragon Dances of course) is pretty obvious since you super conveniently outspeed 252 Spe Altaria before you Mega Evolve with this spread that also speed creeps Manaphy after Mega Evolving. Pokemon speed tiers are honestly so magical. Oh, and you obviously OHKO with Hyper Voice:

252 SpA Pixilate Mega Gardevoir Hyper Voice vs. 0 HP / 0 SpD Mega Altaria: 440-518 (151.2 - 178%) -- guaranteed OHKO

The set I listed has Wish and Protect slashed after Focus Blast and Shadow Ball which is nice for longevity to be able to consistently check this core.

*Just thought of another while typing this up. Can someone do Sludge Wave Prankster Thundurus? It OHKOs Manaphy with Tbolt and Mega Altaria with Sludge Wave after Stealth Rock. Can also Thunder Wave Altaria if it gets a boost, allowing a partner like Bisharp to revenge kill easily.

Kyurem-Black @ Life Orb
Ability: Teravolt
EVs: 56 Atk / 252 SpA / 200 Spe
Mild Nature
- Fusion Bolt
- Ice Beam

So Kyurem-b, although unable to switch into Mega Altaria, presents a big problem to this core. Under the assumption that it comes in before Mega Altaria has set up, or that it comes in on Manaphy, this Poke can proceed to kill each member without much problem. It is able to come in on Manaphy with almost no trouble (be wary of scald burns though), and do massive damage with Fusion Bolt. It can also OHKO Mega Altaria with an Ice beam. It also outspeeds Mega Altaria, allowing it to kill it before being hit with a return/frustration.
252+ SpA Life Orb Teravolt Kyurem-B Ice Beam vs. 0 HP / 0 SpD Mega Altaria: 382-452 (131.2 - 155.3%) -- guaranteed OHKO

Mega Venusaur, and especially Offensive Mega Venusaur, is a big threat to this core, as it counters both Mega Altaria and Manaphy without Psychic.

+3 248 SpA Manaphy Hidden Power Fire vs. 252 HP / 0 SpD Thick Fat Mega Venusaur: 118-140 (32.4 - 38.4%) -- 98.1% chance to 3HKO

Alakazam @ Alakazite
Ability: Magic Guard
EVs: 252 SpA / 4 SpD / 252 Spe
Modest Nature
- Encore
- Psychic
- Focus Blast
- Shadow Ball

Mega Alakazam can take advantage of Manaphy's lack of immediate power by coming in on a predicted tail glow and locking it in via encore. Zam can do the same to Mega Altaria, outspeeding even at +1 (provided zam is already mega) although it's much riskier since it dies to a return at +0. Even if it comes in after the two have already set up, it's capable of dealing huge damage to either member with psychic, making it a solid revenge killer after some prior damage. Worst case scenario, you can always lock either member into a move resisted by a teammate to stop their sweep.

252+ SpA Mega Alakazam Psychic vs. 0 HP / 0 SpD Mega Altaria: 195-229 (67 - 78.6%) -- guaranteed 2HKO

- Meteor Mash
- Zen Headbutt

Metagross is a very strong Altaria check, being able to eat a +1 Earthquake and OHKO back with Meteor Mash. Manaphy is 2HKOed by Zen Headbutt and thus does like switching into Gross either. This particular Manaphy (Timid Scald w/ HP Fire) also misses the OHKO at +3, so Metagross beats it if it can avoid the Scald burn. However, Modest Surf Manaphy or Shadow Ball Manaphy both OHKO at +3 so I wouldn't send Gross in on Manaphy too eagerly.

252 Atk Tough Claws Mega Metagross Zen Headbutt vs. 96 HP / 0 Def Manaphy: 187-222 (51.2 - 60.8%) -- guaranteed 2HKO

Manaphy can OHKO both members of the core if it manages to get a TG up. However, it can't really switch into the core as Altaria's Return 2HKOs and Mana's Energy Ball has a high chance of 2HKOing after rocks.

+3 252 SpA Manaphy Energy Ball vs. 96 HP / 0 SpD Manaphy: 408-482 (111.7 - 132%) -- guaranteed OHKO

Roserade is a pretty big threat to this core, as it takes on Mega Altaria and Manaphy without much trouble. It lives a +1 Earthquake/Return from Mega Altaria thanks to Black Sludge recovery and its typing, and OHKOes back with Sludge Bomb. Giga Drain 2HKOes Manaphy as well, and it can also put Manaphy to sleep with Sleep Powder.

Been a while since I've posted here, due to notifications being absolutely garbage on this site, in saying this I'm here to provide some in put. Clefable is arguable one of the best pokemon in this game currently, with its great newly added typing, awesome ability options, diverse move pool and respectable stats. These cater for some of the reasons it's can utterly shut down this core, as Unaware Clefable does not care for ether of these two set up dependant pokemon. It's is able to tank all of there most powerful hits and then freely set up on them or retaliate with a stab moonblast , which is super effective against Altria. I don't think anything else can be said, other than it completely shits on this core and stops it from functioning.

252 SpA Manaphy Surf vs. 252 HP / 4 SpD Clefable: 135-159 (34.2 - 40.3%) -- 40.6% chance to 3HKO after Leftovers recovery

192+ Atk Pixilate Mega Altaria Return vs. 252 HP / 252+ Def Clefable: 178-210 (45.1 - 53.2%) -- 0.4% chance to 2HKO after Leftovers recovery
