Countdown to XY: A Nostalgia Thread

Ho boy, this is a tough one. I'd have to say Froslass. Yes, the very same Pokemon I would erase from existence. It always murders me when I'm against it, but when I actually trained one in Platinum and used it in PBR, it just sucked.

Oh wait, you mean in-game only? In that case, Zoroark. Or to be more precise, U-turn on Zoroark. It hardly ever did more than 25% damage to anything. Really, I always just switched out normally because the move was so bad on him.

In Platinum I was feeling nostalgic and decided to train all four of the original trade-evolvers. Machamp, Alakazam and Gengar where all amazing. Golem, not so much. She couldn't even beat people who she had type advantage on.

Lance in GSC.

Probably Gyarados way way back in GSC too. I thought it would be such a beast. Turned out, not so much.

Day 23: Which Pokémon was the biggest disappointment when you used it in-game?
Blitzle. It didn't learn any good moves until it evolved which took forever and it turned out to be really frail.

This is a tough one, I forget a bunch of my teams. I only really remember my best players (Darmanitan rocks!). Sableye in Emerald was okay, but pretty bad overall. I'm currently playing HeartGold and finding Swinub to be weak as all get out (with no trainers sans Clair to train against, I'm having trouble evolving my poor Swinub ...).

You can always use the Pokegear to call your registered Trainers for rematches. That should help you out.

Day 23: ZEBSTRIKA

Man when I first saw him I thought that he would be a veritable badass but he turned out to be the worst Pokemon on my team in Pokemon White. I had to use EXP share all the time to raise that whimpy Blitzle because it just died to everything. And I thought once it evolved that it would pull its weight better but I was sadly mistaken. I'm pretty sure throwing him off my team was the first time that I actually ever gave up on a Pokemon that I had put so much time into training. He is amazingly cool looking but since he failed me I won't even use one again.

Onix seemed like a strong Pokemon when Brock was using it. When I caught one, the results were a little different. Most Pokemon are at least decent in-game though.

Day 23: Onix. I used one of those in Leafgreen, and I couldn't figure out why most of its stats were so terrible. I didn't have the chance to play the first-gen games at all (and I only got a couple of days' worth of Silver before its owner lost it), so all I had to go on were old episodes of the anime, and Onix seemed like an incredible powerhouse. Seriously, how does a colossal rock snake have a base 45 Attack stat? This was my first TrollFreak experience.

Day 23: My biggest disappointment has to be Dragonite from back in RBY. No dragon type attacks (cept dragon rage), and blizzard was 90% accurate. Such a shame.

I was expecting to see Flareon, but I forgot - Flareon was actually pretty awesome in RBY's single player - rare good mixed attacker and a strong special wall.

I think that honor goes to Hitmonchan - "so you learn all the elemental punches and you suck at all of them?" or Snivy, who manages to be the most mechanically boring grass starter ever, and there's a LOT of competition for mechanically boring grass starters.

Day 23: Which Pokémon was the biggest disappointment when you used it in-game?

I would say Crobat. Although it was faster than nearly everything, it couldn't OHKO, and struggled to 2HKO things it couldn't hit super-effectively. I ditched it for something more usable quickly (A Lucario iirc). On top of that, it doesn't get a good poison-type physical STAB until after the 5th gym, and no good physical flying-type move except fly until post-game, on top of its low Sp. Attack and average Attack.

I know I'm late on this one, but:

Day 2: What was your first experience with a shiny Pokémon?

My first and only shiny was a shiny Entei - ridiculous, thinking back on it. I caught it and still have it today on my Pokemon Gold cartridge.

Day 23: Which Pokémon was the biggest disappointment when you used it in-game?

Probably Lafeon. Not the worst by any stretch of the imagination, but disappointing. Limited move set and only subpar stats meant I really liked it but couldn't stand to put it out in battle.

In my second playthrough of Pokemon Ruby, I remember grinding for a good half an hour or so at Route 102 in search for a Ralts. But alas, impatience led me to abandon this mission and just go on with my journey. But just as I was about to step out of the tall grass, I happened to stumble upon a Pokemon I've never seen before; a weird-looking, tiny, blue spider thingy. Yep, it was none other than, a Surskit. Obviously, I was very excited about it. I raved it to my friends who also haven't seen or even heard of such a Pokemon in their own respective playthroughs. I had high hopes for it seeing that it was a very rare catch. However, the excitement drifted away when it evolved; as if leveling it wasn't bad enough. A complete overhaul to its typing -losing its unique Water/Bug for the generic Bug/Flying- was unexpected. Aside from that, it suffered not only of lackluster stats but also of a disappointing movepool. It contributed little to nothing at all in my team and so I just decided to keep it in storage.

:I

Vibrava for me.

"Ooh, Trapinch finally evolved! Yay! Wonder what it...

...oh. It's weaker. And takes forever to evolve further. Thanks, GameFreak!"

My first experience with Wobbuffet was also quite frustrating. I kept using Counter and Mirror Coat without ever damaging the foe ("The attack missed!"), and when it finally hit, it dealt very little damage. At least Magikarp could reliably hurt the enemy after some babying, Wobbuffet remained a punching bag no matter how hard you trained it. Actually, it got worse as it levelled, since its defenses rose and the foe dealt less damage, meaning you retaliated weaker in return.

A honorable mention goes to Jumpluff in Crystal. After forgoing Tacke for the mystical Cotton Spore, my 'pluff had no reliable way of damaging the opponent. It really hit like a swab of cotton.

Krookodile in White. Even with Intimidate, he seemed too fragile and just never got the job done for me. I ended up ditching him (for Volcarona), which is something I usually don't do. I still think he looks really cool. <3

Well, thats something hard, because i tend to pick only my favorite pokes, and the power and base stats are directly proportional to the coolness to me, so...

Eh, the worst pokemon ive ever used was Sunflora in HG/SS, only usable moves are grass-types, which are all piss weak until i got TM for giga drain n KANTO,, or energy ball and earth power since i was tired and took on the Battle Frontier for 4 hours straight, holy **** i spent my entire journey through Johto using bullet seed and return. But even then, it was less of a horrible poke in Kanto, where i could actually touch steel types and have a non-10 BP move to use.

and oh crap
a week
we're a week away
I cannot hold the tension

Day 23: Which Pokémon was the biggest disappointment when you used it in-game?
I think it was Sneasel on my first Gold playthrough. When the little beast finally did show up this late in game, I was expecting something a bit stronger (euphemism). 35 SpA when its STABs were purely special? Utter disappointment.
Like someone said, Corsola had similar issues. I suppose Yanma did too. It was impossible to do anything with those three, but at least they came earlier in the game.

By the way, I never picked an avatar, can explain me by PM how it suddenly became a Winter Sawsbuck?

Day 23: Musharna, caught it during my first playthrough of Gen V, it so effing slow, barely found any good time to use it, ended up having to grind it before e4.

Day 23: Which Pokémon was the biggest disappointment when you used it in-game?
One time, I was doing a run in one of my 3rd gen games (I forget which one, but I *think* it was Fire Red) where my brother told me what 6 Pokemon to use. One of them was Ariados because he knows I'm arachnophobic and he wanted to see if I'd freak out every time I had to see the stupid thing (joke's on him, as spider *Pokemon* don't actually scare me! XD)

I knew it had horrible stats, but I guess I didn't realize how incredibly horrible they are until I used one. The thing is so frail that it dies in one hit to just about anything, and it sucks so much at attacking that it can barely make a dent in a Caterpie (I exaggerate, but NOT BY MUCH.) I mean, it has a base-90 attack stat and everything, but the only good physical attacking move it has is sludge bomb, which is resisted by a ton of things.

Seriously, never use this thing. It sucks. A lot.

Day 24: What is the cutest Pokémon?

PICK ONE.

Let the battle begin. No top fives, no honorable mentions, one cutemon to rule them all.

The last five days of the countdown will be about XY.
