Project Counter That Threat! [Week 6: Doduo]

Abra @ Focus Sash
Level: 5
Ability: Magic Guard
EVs: 36 Atk / 240 SpA / 200 Spe
Timid Nature
- Psychic
- Dazzling Gleam
- Hidden Power Fighting
- Energy Ball

Simple. Switch into any move, live thanks to Sash, outspeed and OHKO with Psychic. If Gastly Substitutes you still get to hit it twice because it didn't knock you down to Sash on the switch in, so you kill it.
Run counter over hp fight now fren

Pawniard @ Eviolite
Level: 5
Ability: Defiant
EVs: 156 Atk / 36 Def / 116 SpD / 196 Spe
Jolly Nature
- Knock Off
- Iron Head
- Pursuit
- Sucker Punch

Pawniard isn't 2HKOed by any of Gastly's moves and traps and OHKOes Gastly with Pursuit. Gastly could use Substitute but Pawniard will just keep breaking it and is once again not 2HKOed. You could also run Scarf Pawn who outspeeds Gastly but that takes a lot more damage.

I'll be taking this over since I think it can be a useful learning tool. We'll start with the voting from the last threat and then I'll have another threat up in a few days.

Vote for what you think is the most effective and reliable Life Orb Gastly counter. I didn't include Zorua because the scenario for that to work seems a bit off.

Alolan Grimer is the obvious winner here.

This week's threat is Doduo!

Doduo @ Berry Juice
Ability: Early Bird
Level: 5
EVs: 236 Atk / 236 Spe
Jolly Nature
- Brave Bird
- Knock Off
- Jump Kick
- Quick Attack

I'm also going to add a caveat to this, because I've noticed that without doing so, these become incredibly easy and boring. The condition for this week is that your Pokemon of choice cannot be a Rock-type Weak Armor user. Everybody is well aware that WA Onix/Kabuto/Omanyte/Dwebble can beat it. I want to see what else you can come up with. When we get to the voting, we will perform two votes: One for the best choice submitted by you, and one for the best Weak Armor counter between the four Pokemon I mentioned.

Good luck!

Cubone @ Thick Club
Ability: Battle Armor
Level: 5
EVs: 36 HP / 196 Atk / 76 Def / 196 SpD
Adamant Nature
- Bonemerang
- Knock Off
- Fire Punch
- Rock Slide

the only pkmn i could think of that wasn't a scarf ice type. Shit is so hard to counter. Slide ohko's and bb is a 2hko

Tirtouga @ Eviolite
Level: 5
Ability: Solid Rock
EVs: 4 HP / 132 Atk / 92 Def / 76 SpD / 180 Spe
Jolly Nature
- Shell Smash
- Waterfall
- Stone Edge
- Zen Headbutt

Yeah yeah, it's a Rock-type with a beneficial ability for this situation. However, it's not Weak Armor so it's allowed. Evio Solid Rock Tirtouga is pretty much the only Pokemon that can take any two moves from Doduo, with the worst case scenarios being Knock Off -> Jump Kick or two Jump Kicks, and always OHKO back unless a miss. Most of the time, Tirtouga even takes another Quick Attack after two JKs, so it can also set up on it, meaning it doesn't even have to risk a SE miss (+2 Waterfall OHKOes). Calcs:
236 Atk Doduo Jump Kick vs. 4 HP / 92 Def Eviolite Solid Rock Tirtouga: 7-10 (31.8 - 45.4%) -- 100% chance to 3HKO
(7, 9, 9, 9, 9, 9, 9, 9, 9, 9, 9, 9, 9, 9, 9, 10)
236 Atk Doduo Quick Attack vs. 4 HP / 92 Def Eviolite Tirtouga: 2-3 (9 - 13.6%) -- possible 8HKO
(2, 2, 2, 2, 2, 2, 2, 2, 2, 2, 2, 2, 2, 2, 2, 3)
Tirtouga takes 2 Jump Kicks + Quick Attack unless two out of those max roll (Tirt has 22 HP)

236 Atk Doduo Knock Off (97.5 BP) vs. 4 HP / 92 Def Eviolite Tirtouga: 5-7 (22.7 - 31.8%) -- 99.9% chance to 4HKO
(5, 6, 6, 6, 6, 6, 6, 6, 6, 6, 6, 6, 6, 6, 6, 7)
236 Atk Doduo Jump Kick vs. 4 HP / 92 Def Solid Rock Tirtouga: 12-15 (54.5 - 68.1%) -- guaranteed 2HKO
(12, 12, 12, 12, 12, 13, 13, 13, 13, 13, 13, 13, 13, 13, 13, 15)
236 Atk Doduo Quick Attack vs. 4 HP / 92 Def Tirtouga: 3-3 (13.6 - 13.6%) -- guaranteed 8HKO
(3, 3, 3, 3, 3, 3, 3, 3, 3, 3, 3, 3, 3, 3, 3, 3)
Generally, Tirtouga will not take a QA after Koff + JK, but it can still just KO with Stone Edge easily

Chinchou @ Berry Juice
Ability: Volt Absorb
Level: 5
EVs: 76 HP / 212 Def / 152 SpA
- Scald
- Volt Switch
- Ice Beam
- HP Ground / Heal Bell

236 Atk Doduo Knock Off (97.5 BP) vs. 76 HP / 212+ Def Chinchou: 9-11 (36 - 44%) -- guaranteed 3HKO
(9, 9, 9, 9, 9, 9, 10, 10, 10, 10, 10, 10, 10, 10, 10, 11)
236 Atk Doduo Jump Kick vs. 76 HP / 212+ Def Chinchou: 10-12 (40 - 48%) -- guaranteed 3HKO
(10, 10, 10, 10, 10, 10, 10, 11, 11, 11, 11, 11, 11, 11, 11, 12)

152 SpA Chinchou Volt Switch vs. 0 HP / 0 SpD Doduo: 20-26 (100 - 130%) -- guaranteed OHKO
(20, 20, 20, 20, 24, 24, 24, 24, 24, 24, 24, 24, 24, 24, 24, 26)
If you are worried about diglett:
152 SpA Chinchou Ice Beam vs. 0 HP / 0 SpD Doduo: 20-24 (100 - 120%) -- guaranteed OHKO
(20, 20, 20, 20, 20, 20, 20, 22, 22, 22, 22, 22, 22, 22, 22, 24)

The only real issue with this is that it can be worn down if switched in on doduo multiple times. Chinchou overall is an incredibly useful pokemon so it functions v well outside of countering doduo

Shinx @ Berry Juice
Level: 5
Ability: Intimidate
EVs: 156 HP / 76 Atk / 244 Def / 4 SpD
Relaxed Nature
- Wild Charge
- Thief
- Volt Switch
- Toxic / Thunder Wave / Hidden Power Grass

Intimidate and Shinx's typing help it counter Doduo pretty hard, as Shinx only gets 4HKOed by any of Doduo's attacks. The set is pretty self-explanatory, you can opt for HP Grass to hit Electric-resists coming in like Onix or Chinchou
-1 236 Atk Doduo Brave Bird vs. 156 HP / 244+ Def Shinx: 6-7 (26 - 30.4%) -- guaranteed 4HKO
-1 236 Atk Doduo Knock Off (97.5 BP) vs. 156 HP / 244+ Def Shinx: 6-8 (26 - 34.7%) -- 0.9% chance to 3HKO
-1 236 Atk Doduo Jump Kick vs. 156 HP / 244+ Def Shinx: 6-8 (26 - 34.7%) -- 0.9% chance to 3HKO
0 SpA Shinx Volt Switch vs. 0 HP / 0 SpD Doduo: 14-20 (70 - 100%) -- 6.3% chance to OHKO - kills after Brave Bird recoil
76 Atk Shinx Wild Charge vs. 0 HP / 0 Def Doduo: 26-32 (130 - 160%) -- guaranteed OHKO
0 SpA Shinx Hidden Power Grass vs. 76 HP / 76 SpD Eviolite Onix: 12-16 (57.1 - 76.1%) -- guaranteed 2HKO
0 SpA Shinx Hidden Power Grass vs. 76 HP / 0 SpD Chinchou: 10-12 (40 - 48%) -- guaranteed 3HKO

Man you guys are boring....use something fun!

Sandile @ Berry Juice
Ability: Intimidate
Level: 5
EVs: 100 Atk / 156 Def / 236 Spe
Jolly Nature
- Thief
- Stone Edge
- Pursuit
- Earthquake

"When young, alligators eat fish, insects, snails, crustaceans, and worms. As they mature, progressively larger prey is taken, including larger fish such as gar, turtles, and various mammals, particularly coypu and muskrat, as well as birds, deer, and other reptiles."

Sandile comes in easily because of Intimidate and procs Berry Juice, bringing it back to full health. Eviolite did not work as well because it was a roll to eat Brave Bird + Jump Kick, but a more HP generous option could be used coupled with an Eviolite. Stone Edge OHKO's regardless of the roll, which is neat, but Thief could also be used to get another Berry Juice. Other moves are filler.

Elekid @ Eviolite
Ability: Static
Level: 5
EVs: 240 SpA / 236 Spe
Timid Nature
IVs: 1 Atk
- Volt Switch
- Thunderbolt
- Psychic
- Hidden Power [Grass]

Elekif with Eviolite can easily go on Doduo's attacks, encase them, and ripost with Volt Switch / Thunderbolt to kill him. Static is here to have a chance to Paralyze him on an attack.

236 Atk Doduo Knock Off (97.5 BP) vs. 0 HP / 0 Def Eviolite Elekid: 9-11 (42.8 - 52.3%) -- 7.4% chance to 2HKO
236 Atk Doduo Quick Attack vs. 0 HP / 0 Def Elekid: 7-10 (33.3 - 47.6%) -- guaranteed 3HKO
236 Atk Doduo Quick Attack vs. 0 HP / 0 Def Eviolite Elekid: 6-7 (28.5 - 33.3%) -- 0% chance to 3HKO
236 Atk Doduo Jump Kick vs. 0 HP / 0 Def Eviolite Elekid: 9-11 (42.8 - 52.3%) -- 7.4% chance to 2HKO
236 Atk Doduo Brave Bird vs. 0 HP / 0 Def Eviolite Elekid: 8-9 (38 - 42.8%) -- guaranteed 3HKO
240 SpA Elekid Volt Switch vs. 0 HP / 0 SpD Doduo: 24-30 (120 - 150%) -- guaranteed OHKO

I was going to put Onix, but I forgot WA is not allowed, so:

Snubbull @ Berry Juice
Ability: Intimidate
Level: 5
EVs: 36 HP / 36 Atk / 196 Def / 116 SpD / 116 Spe
Adamant Nature
- Play Rough
- Thunder Wave
- Earthquake
- Thief

Intimidate allows Snubbull to take Doduo attack fairly better, and can cripple it Speed with Thunder Wave, and afterwards, deal huge damage with its STAB Play Rough.

Cite your fucking sources English Major.

Also my entry:
Sandshrew-Alola @ Choice Scarf
Ability: Slush Rush
Level: 5
EVs: 36 HP / 236 Atk / 36 Def / 196 Spe
Jolly Nature
- Icicle Spear
- Iron Head
- Earthquake
- Protect

My man is the best mon in the tier, s/o to Sam-testings who first spread the word about Scarf Shrew <3. So how does this set check Doduo? Well it's simple: my little baby switches into anything but a Jump Kick (Knock Off included) and strikes back based on what happens. If Doduo clicks Quick Attack or Brave Bird, you just click Icicle Spear and murder Doduo. But if you switch into a Knock Off, the fun begins. Protecting on the Jump Kick of a Doduo is literally the most entertaining revenge kill of all time. Also I know this isn't the set we're going with, but this works particularly well with revenge killing Scarf Doduo locked into Jump Kick. Protect Scarf A-Shrew is the best and funniest lure in the game.

Magnemite @ Berry Juice
Ability: Sturdy
Level: 5
EVs: 240 SpA / 236 Spe
Timid Nature
- Recycle
- Endure
- Volt Switch
- Flash Cannon

Sturdyjuice lets Magnemite switch in to all of Doduo's moves bar Knock Off, use Endure if needed to activate Berry Juice, and OHKO Doduo with a super effective Volt Switch, even if it gets outsped, to gain momentum.

240 SpA Magnemite Volt Switch vs. 0 HP / 0 SpD Doduo: 30-36 (150 - 180%) -- guaranteed OHKO
