BARNACLES!
[SET]
name: Ubers Support
move 1: Recover
move 2: Grass Knot
move 3: Toxic
move 4: Stealth Rock
item: Leftovers
ability: Storm Drain
nature: Calm
evs: 252 HP / 252 SpD / 4 Def

Why this set deserves to be on-site:

  • A reallllly good Gastrodon for sand teams.
  • Counters Specs Ogre, lives Specs Ice beam! Can then have sand team switch to TTar for trolling / Pursuiting.
  • Decent bulk lets it be OK if plans go unintended (sand isn't up)
  • stomachs Draco Meteors in sand, takes a tiny 50% from modest specs base 150 ones (438 spa) and can can recover them off! Decent chance the same ones won't OHKO either in weather not sand.
  • Resists Extremespeed and takes neutral damage from EQ, decent defense lets it be an OK switch-in to Exkiller (espeed does (44.15% - 52.13%) and EQ does (61.70% - 72.61%) from Silk scarfed Adamant mx atk invested ones).
  • Steel, Bug, and Fighting type moves uncommon means little chance of being hit SE wise by them.
  • NOT 2HKOed by Support Groudon. 2HKOes in return.
  • Not 2HKOed by Scarf Ice Beam from Scarf Timid Ogre. 2HKOes in return.
Set comments:
  • Should only be used on sand
  • Grass move hits Ogre Super effectively, not Taunt bait, gets STAB
  • Giga Drain Restores health, Grass Knot hits harder then Gdrain, Seed Bomb hits Ogre harder then before mentioned moves but is weaker against Groudon. Attacking bases are the same -_-
  • Recover is recover who doesn't love its recovery.
  • Toxic prevents it from being set-up
  • Can also supply SR if team lacks the move.
Additional comments:
  • Likes CB TTar for sand supporter not hippo, since it gets pursuit.
  • Hates status = Cleric or Restalker on team appreciated.
  • HP Fire if you wanna troll Ferrotroll
  • Its slow... don't expect it to outspeed anything.
  • Hates Steelceus, Fightceus and Bugceus, partners to get rid of those are appreciated, Support Arceus gets Perish Song, which is pretty good. Ghostceus and Poisonceus are perfered since former spin blocks, latter absorbs tspikes. Also only reason to use this is to free up Arceus slot (look at Rock all for more information).
  • Plays mind games with Mewtwo, since Asphere and Ice Beam tickle in sand (+1 Timid w/t LO Fails to 2HKO w/t SR support lol) although Psystrike OHKOes, they may not use it because of TTar.
  • Physically defensive spread is nice, but the Special Bulk is better due to the common nature of Special Attacks Fired everywhere.
  • Gira-o is nice, good synergy + Destroys Mewtwo, can switch into Asphere
  • Excadril clears spikes from the field and loves sand.
  • Cradily is a fine Electric resist, it can easily stomach attacks like Scarf Zekroms Bolt Strike and cripple the opposition with Toxic. Good for sand teams that lack one.
Other Options:
  • Mirror Coat
  • Seed Bomb
  • Curse
  • Rock Slide / Stone Edge
  • Earthquake
  • Tickle
Checks and Counters:
  • BU Dialga
  • Steel-types with a set up move or Steelceus NOT ferrothorn though.
  • Fightceus
  • Jirachi
  • Heatran
  • Toxic it and you've killed it
  • Toxic Spikes
  • Taunt is annoying.
  • Terrakion

I'll try to collect more but I get a ton of d/c's with Cradily's team :(.

Some advices,

First of all remove the Sassy nature and the 0 Speed IV.

- Cradily can easily Recover stall 8 Gyro Balls, which is not a move so common on Ferrothorn in the first place
- Base 43 Speed outruns Gastrodon or Forretress, there is no reason to not take advantage of it
- Cradily should NOT be staying on Ferrothorn anyway, unless you want to play with a full row of hazard on your side

Giga Drain is illegal with Egg Moves (Recover / Stealth Rock), remove it.

Move Seed Bomb to OO, STAB Grass Knot is a cool asset in Ubers and after a Storm Drain boost Cradily is decent at least. Seed Bomb is weak, to give you an idea you may not even break Mewtwo's Substitute.

Move Mirror Coat to AC/OO, the main niche Cradily has over Gastrodon is that it can setup Stealth Rock, so you can use Choice Band Tyranitar.

Stuff to mention

- Cradily is not 2HKOd by Support Groudon and can easily 2HKO it, that's a niche over Gastrodon
- Cradily is not 2HKOd by Scarf Ice Beam from Timid Kyogre
- Some other Arceus forms as partners, the only reason to use Cradily over Arceus Grass is to free your 'Arceus slot', I tested Arceus Water and it works quite well, you can lure in Ferrothorn and Will O Wisp / Fire Blast it, it also attracts Choice Thunders
- Mention max attack Choice Band Tyranitar as a partner, you only get one chance to Pursuit that Kyogre that killed Cradily with Ice Beam, you really need max investement to close the weather war. Max attack Tyranitar can also OHKO SDef Ferrothorn with Superpower
- Mewtwo OHKOs Cradily with a +1 Life Orb Psystrike, and it's still risky to switch to Tyranitar because Mewtwo might Aurasphere Cradily
- Giratina-O doesn't enjoy Sandstorm but has a good defensive sinergy with Tyranitar/Cradily and can Shadow Sneak Mewtwo
- Rapid Spin Excadrill as a partner since Cradily is Spikes fodder for everything

Koinell's stuff has been mentioned, only one thing I disagree on...

Seed Bomb is weak, to give you an idea you may not even break Mewtwo's Substitute.
Granted it is weak but it lets you 3HKO 252 HP Kyogre so Sub CM and Cro Kyogre don't destroy you, which is an advantage over Gastrobro.

Still moved it to OO though. Thanks for the extra stuff to add in though :D.

I have thought about using Cradily in Ubers before since Eo used it to some success. Mention Rock Slide because it easily KOes Ho-Oh on the switch in with Stealth Rocks. Stone Edge can do the same but stronger.

Terrakion makes Cradily sad with Close Combat but it doesn't enjoy Grass Knots though. In sand, Terrakion's Special Defense is actually boosted which means you can't OHKO it with Grass Knot or Seed Bomb.

Earthquake takes out Heatran who can be troublesome otherwise, with it's immunity to both Sandstorm and Toxic, laughs at Grass attacks too.

Tickle + Seed Bomb allows you to beat some Arceus forms such as Water or Ground. Cradily also resists Electric-type attacks which allows it to some what stall out Choice Scarf Zekrom as long as you don't come in on Outrage.

I will post more after testing this.

I might test a Curse or SD set, but I'm just going to say that I do not like the support set. It's basically Gastrodon, but even more of dead weight. It does absolutely jack shit apart from just sit there. At least Gastro has Clear Smog to take out some stat boosts, all Cradily does is just sit there and let the opponent set a million layers of Spikes, or just set up. Calm Mind Kyogre beats Cradily if it gets the rain up as well.

Unlike Gastrodon, Cradily stomachs virtually any special hit barring Psyshock and Psystrike with ease in sand. The largest one of these is the ability to take around 50% from a Specs Draco Meteor in sand where as Gastrodon risks getting OHKOed after rocks and is always OHKOed after SR + 1 layer of Spikes, something Cradily avoids getting even 2HKOed by in sand. Cradily also provides SR and it should be noted that Grass Knot is much stronger then Gastro's Surf against Ogre. Also Cradily isn't complete dead weight against sun teams like Gastrodon. Calm Mind Kyogre does not beat Cradily, if it CM's on the switch then Tyranitar can come in on the boosted Ice Beam, set up Sandstorm preventing the same Ice Beam from now even 2HKOing, and can then switch back to Cradily to take the Water move and pound Kyogre with boosted Grass Knots / Toxic.

Lastly, unless Cradily has Hidden Power Fire or something, it should not be staying in on Ferrothorn who is the only likely user of spikes. Set-up users don't like being hit with Toxic. Just think of it as a Gastrodon for sand teams, besides if the enemy sets up a boost chances are Gastrobro will get OHKOed back by the boosted attack anyway upon switching in to remove the boost with Clear Smog. Cradily is also larger bait for Specs Ice Beam which TTar enjoys.

A Swords Dance set won't sweep due to its abyssamal Speed stat. Curse may stand a chance due to the attack boost so I'll move it to OO for now.

Also Cradily isn't complete dead weight against sun teams like Gastrodon.
He actually is, possibly even more than Gastrodon. At least Gastrodon can Earth Power some Fire-types for a bit of damage. Groudon can switch-in without too much hassle and set up the sun (Grass Knot 2HKOs, but Cradily isn't always attacking). Cradily, on the other hand, can't do anything. Ho-oh sets up Subs on it, Reshiram doesn't care about anything, Heatran laughs at it, Blaziken sets up SD without worry at all, Victini nukes everything. For Grass-types, Venusaur is virtually immune to everything Cradily does, I'll give you Shiftry and Exeggutor (although Exeggutor can use Psyshock for a lot of damage), while Tangrowth sets up SD and beats you down with Power Whip.

My main problem with Cradily is that it simply just sits there (I never liked Gastrodon, either, by the way). Good walls also support the team in some way. Skarmory and Ferrothorn sets up Spikes, Blissey passes Wishes, Arceus burns stuff, Groudon attacks, Latias can potentially sweep and Hippowdon sets up Sand. They can do something productive with their time while Cradily wastes it. What's Cradily doing? Setting up Stealth Rock is the only thing I can see it doing, and that is only one turn. For the rest of the match, you're using 3 attacks that benefit nothing but Cradily. It's nice at sponging damage, but what I really hate it about is that it cannot do anything else.

By the way, I have tested this out, and it was pretty bad. The support set was just hazard fodder, and while I tested a Curse set, the one time things started to look promising (I set up 4 Curses on Ferrothorn, heh), it got killed by Mewtwo crit. Needless to say, I'm not very happy with the results so far. Maybe provide some logs of some success? I haven't been able to find any so far.

Ho-oh fears rock slide, heatran EQ, and all the others dont like toxic halting their sweep (excecpt Venusaur).

Passes toxic around after setting up Rocks, should I slash some of OO in over Rocks in case it is provided? After all luring and OHKOing stuff with EQ Slide and other moves sounds nice...

I can write up a curse set, but it seems so... Toxic / phaze bait to me :(. I would like more QC opinions before moving it if its ok!

I think a team utilizing it is hard to picture so I'll post a team in the actual analysis along with some logs. It is a Ogre counter though so don't expect too much out of it, it did manage to beat Sub Cm though in a few battles! Something Gastrobro doesnt accomplish.

Okay, I can't get this to work, and I asked barry about it, and he can't get it to work either. It would nice if you can get some logs (and don't cherrypick) of Cradily in action. I'm probably going to reject unless I see some very impressive logs.

Barry's Cradily team got destroyed by my Cradily team. Using it in a sand team also makes Cradily stack up some weaknesses with Tyranitar which sucks. Steel Arceus, Terrakion, and Excadrill are examples who threaten both.

Keep in mind Cradily isn't performing that well, shrang is right, set up Stealth Rock and sit there Toxic things I guess. The thing I like about Cradily is that Grass Knot can actually hurt things after a Special Attack boost, even Arceus takes decent damage from Grass Knot if Cradily managed to snag a boost.

Cradily does have Rock Slide or Stone Edge to deal with Ho-Oh. Reshiram doesn't enjoy it either, while Gastrodon can't do a thing to Ho-Oh. Gastrodon sucks already but it totally walls Specs Kyogre, Cradily gets smashed by Specs Ice Beam. Bad new is Cradily cannot carry Rock Slide and Grass Knot at the same time or it will have to drop something it does best.

Cradily is just free set up for all Spikes users. At least Gastrodon can try to burn them and Earthquake squashes Tentacruel.

Like what shrang said, post some logs to show Cradily in action. Don't post logs about winning a match with a Cradily team without Cradily actually doing something important though because I have lots of those.

I have been considering moving some of OO into Sr but it Is the only decent Specs Ogre counter that gets SR. The idea with Specs Ice Beam is that you switch TTar in after the Ice beam hits cradily or you predict the move so that Ogre gets Insta-OHKOed upon fleeing from TTar since it Pursuits it into its doom, similar thing works with Scizor but TTar provides sand. The fact that 1 turn of Sand + SR is enough to gurantee the OHKO on Ogre (assuming max atk CB tar and no defense investment Ogre) makes Cradily more special.

School has been a tad bit troll some (and time consuming), so I will have some more logs ready in a few days since I can abuse the weekend :(. Sorry about the unintended delay...

I knew that had to be trickroom, if it wasn't Shrang. ;-;

Frankly, I dont really like Cradily. It just SITS there and does nothing really. Shrang really outlines what I want to say in this post:

My main problem with Cradily is that it simply just sits there (I never liked Gastrodon, either, by the way). Good walls also support the team in some way. Skarmory and Ferrothorn sets up Spikes, Blissey passes Wishes, Arceus burns stuff, Groudon attacks, Latias can potentially sweep and Hippowdon sets up Sand. Gastrodon can damage some stuff with Earthquake and use Clear Smog to remove any boosts. Giratina can burn and phaze stuff but Cradily does nothing really. None of its attacks are remotely frightening to anyone. Also, being weak to Ice Beam really sucks for Cradily since it nearly dies after Specs Ogre Ice Beam. Also just keep in mind that since Cradily is switching into Kyogre, it wont really be taking hits in Sand. Also like Trickroom said, Cradily shares a lot of weaknesses with common elements in Sand teams which is its main draw.

Alright after testing this for quite a few matches, I have to saw Cradily just isn't worth using in Ubers. It's lack of real use outside of coming in on Kyogre sort of sucks.

Gastrodon brings a Ground-immune, Scald to at least do something besides Toxic, Earthquake touches Steel Arceus and Dialga! Cradily can't do a thing to them. Also Gastrodon learns Ice Beam which is actually pretty good to smack Rayquaza and Giratina-O. You don't need to use Cradily in your sand team to deal with Kyogre, to be honest I rather use something like Giratina or Grass Arceus.

What's worse, Cradily shares nasty weaknesses with Tyranitar, such as vs Fighting Arceus and Steel Arceus. Gastrodon can also fit in sand teams but it actually has a chance vs Fighting Arceus with Toxic and Clear Smog while Steel Arceus is walled completely.

Rock Slide as an advantage? If you use it, you have to drop Grass Knot, you can't touch Kyogre at all. Cradily is sort of like Porygon2, it may seem to have some use, but I am pretty sure it sucks in Ubers as I have tried it. Having good defenses alone aren't enough, especially when Cradily just sits there. You cannot compare it to Cresselia because the celestial duck actually beats a lot of Dragon-types and is the best CB/RP/SD Groudon counter, and in sun Moonlight becomes very useful, with Cresselia's immense bulk. It can also set up Screens to do something.

About the part where you play mind games with Mewtwo, I am sure a smart opponent will just Psytrike your Cradily instead of using Ice Beam/Aura Sphere if the weather is Sandstorm. Even if Cradily does come in on Aura Sphere, you can't do much in return but Mewtwo can even notch up another Calm Mind before finishing you off.

Sorry, but I cannot see Cradily being useful in Ubers. Curse set sucks because the weather changes all the time, Cradily's typing/bulk isn't the best either.

I honestly can't defend cradily from any of what Trickroom said, the idea with Cradily is to use it as a sponge / tank but it has its glaring weakness, which TR pointed out that hampers its use significantly. If Ice Beam is used on Cradily what happened to Kyogre in the log happens in the battle.

QC can have at the barnacles :P. If it is rejected I understand why.

I tried out Cradily in Rain, Sun, and Sand just to see if it was worth it. In Sun, you get smashed by a whole lot of Fire types while in Rain, I thought why the hell am i not using Ferrothorn or Grass Arceus who perform a whole lot better. I just dont like Sand teams in real anyway and Cradily shares a lot of weaknesses with Tyranitar. Just sitting there and eating hits doesnt help either. You basically screaming "CRIT ME !" or "Hi Ferrothorn / Forretress / Skarmory wanna set up Spikes on me ? At least Gastrodon can do some damage to Forretress and Skarmory in Rain with Scald while Cradily does jack shit. Also apart from Toxic, Gastrodon can burn stuff with Scald and that makes Pokemon think twice before switching in. Also Gastrodon can hurt Dialga with Earth Power while Cradily has nothing. I was slightly optimistic about a Curse set but then I realised Curse + Storm Drain + Seed Bomb is illegal. -_- So yeah, no reason to use Cradily in Ubers over stuff like Ferrothorn. Just countering Kyogre isnt enough to get it an analysis.

also nice search text for the qc rejected image trickroom 9.9
