Crobat (Analysis)

Great analysis Jiovaine, only a couple of minor details to change.

 • QC agreed that Toxic warranted more than an AC mention. It's Crobat's best option against Zapdos, pokemon with scald such as Milotic, and others. Slash it behind U-turn.
 • Mention whirlwind in OO. Crobat's a pretty bad phazer but it's a great move regardless.
QC Approved 1/3

Brave Bird is invaluabe as it provides a poweful stab move for picking off weakened foes or causing severe damage to a number of pokemon.
You misspelled invaluable here.

Likewise, could you add somewhere that Crobat is a great weather starter in the lower tiers because of its blazing speed and access to Sunny Day (and Heat Wave!) and Rain Dance? I feel like his utility as a weather starter atleast deserves a mention, especially since there are no priority rain dances/sunny days in UU and such.
You definitely should mention the fact Crobat is a very fast weather starter with reasonable bulk. Can cancel out Hail if you team has trouble with it, and with Kingdra and SmashPass in UU, Rain Dance is a decent option.

I think the Band set should go first, it's really effective, powerful, and is more common than the stallbreaker set. Also, Cross Poison is terrible, it does literally nothing other than hit zapdos for neutral damage. I think Super Fang should take its place because it can half an enemies HP

it also hits raikou, jolteon, lanturn, eelektross, and the odd rotom c for completeness' sake, but yes, super fang does seem better.

also, you may want to mention that infiltrator has an interesting use of making sure that memento/light screen/reflect/sr azelf does not do anything. this allows you to heavily screw over bp teams not expecting it.

Plus, it's not like inner focus has use except against hitmontop, and hitmontop has trouble hitting it anyway.

[Overview]

Crobat has always been one of the best stallbreakers in the game, and this gen doesn't the new generation does nothing to change the fact that. It's competitive prowess is similar, as While it may be passed over for stronger pokemon such as Staraptor, it's Crobat is still quite powerful and packs a hefty punch of its own. Crobat becomes as excellent team player by being immune to ground attacks while having has excellent synergy with many Pokemon with its multitude of resistances, including an immunity Ground-type attacks and Toxic, and a 4x resistance to the common Fighting-, Grass-, and Bug-types moves which are common enough in UU. A Crobat's blistering 130 base Speed allows it to outpace the majority of UU on it's own, while 85/80/80 defense's give it the durability to switch in multiple times. Despite a crippling weakness to Stealth Rocks and a rather shallow offensive movepool, Crobat is still a very solid pokemon that you should not overlook any team should be prepared for.

[Set]
name: Choice Band
move 1: Brave Bird
move 2: Super Fang
move 3: Pursuit
move 4: U-turn / Toxic
item: Choice Band
nature: Jolly
evs: 4 HP / 252 Atk / 252 Spe

[Set Comments]

Unlike the last set a traditional stallbreaker set which focuses on whittling down stalls teams, this set involves deals a massive amount of damage from the get go. Brave Bird is Crobat's most powerful move, and when Crobat is equipped with a Choice Band, it hits like a nuke and will do an insane amount of damage to anything that doesn't resist it. Super Fang allows is to chips away 50% of the health of any switch in Crobat's immediate switch and weakens it's checks to the point where it can't switch in much later they can't switch in at all, giving it a huge advantage over the more common Staraptor. Pursuit is there to traps and ko pokemon such as Alakazam, Espeon , and Mismagius, while U-turn is there for scouts Crobat's check so you can act accordingly to remove it purposes and will allow you to check your opponents check for Crobat so you can act accordingly later on. Toxic, while an unorthodox move on a Choice set, cripples would-be checks on Choice Band Crobat will allow you to badly poison checks such as Rhyperior, Zapdos, and Rotom-A, making it safe for Crobat to spam Brave Bird later on which makes it safer to use Brave Bird later on in the battle.

[Additional Comments]

Max Attack and Max Speed is simple and allows Crobat to do some decent damage to Jolteon and Aerodactyl in the case of a Speed tie 252 Attack and Speed with a Jolly nature allows Crobat to outspeed most of the metagame ad hit as hard as possible. Crobat's offensive movepool is rather shallow and your only other options are moves like Steel Wing which will do poor damage to even Rock types Other attacks such as Steel Wing and Cross Poison are possible, but do not offer significant coverage outside of the moves already listed. It has Cross Poison which is Crobat's other stab move and hits most of the electric in UU for neutral damage, but has terrible coverage otherwise. Choice Band Crobat has good synergy with Staraptor, as they can both use Brave Bird relentlessly to keep the pressure on your opponent. Unfortunately for Crobat, Staraptor hits way harder than Crobat could ever hope to and the only advantage Choice Band Crobat has over CB Staraptor is its higher 130 base Speed along with a 4x resistance to Fighting-type attacks whereas Staraptor is neutral to them. This Crobat set should be paired up with Donphan once again or another Rapid Spin user, because otherwise Crobat will find itself losing quite a bit of health with Stealth Rock and Brave Bird recoil as having Stealth Rocks removes from your field will prove to be invaluable as it allows Crobat to switch in more reliably. Chansey also benefits as a Wish passed from Chansey will refill Crobat's health to full and make Brave Bird spamming a lot safer makes a good teammate with its access to Wish, allowing Crobat to spam Brave Bird without worrying about recoil.

[Set]
name: Stall Breaker
move 1: Brave Bird
move 2: Roost
move 3: Taunt
move 4: Super Fang / U-turn
item: Leftovers
nature: Jolly
evs: 252 HP / 4 Atk / 252 Spe

[Set Comments]

Stallbreaker Crobat can be a welcomed member to a team that is weak to stall or needs an answer to Grass-, Bug-, and Fighting-type attacks. Crobat has decent defenses along with and multiple resistances, which allows it to switch in consistently agaist offensive and stall teams alike along with and immunity to ground type moves and Toxic which allows it to switch in consistently against offensive and stall teams. Brave Bird is invaluable, providing as it provides a powerful STAB move for which picks off weakened foes or causing and does severe damage to a number of pokemon. The combination of Super Fang, Taunt , and Roost allows it Crobat to slowly whittle down most walls in UU while keeping it's health high with Roost fearing little in return thanks to its good bulk. This Crobat pairs up nicely with Chansey, who can tank most special attacks Crobat is prone to, while Crobat can come in on Fighting-type attacks aimed at Chansey.

[Additional Comments]

Max 252 HP EVs gives Crobat the bulk to survive most neutral or resisted attacks and Max 252 Speed EVs with a Jolly nature allow it to get off the first move majority of the time. A bulkier spread from Gen 4 utilizing common in DPP of 232 Hp / 56 Def / 76 SpD / 144 Spe could be used, if you don't care so much about speed and desire more bulk, and it lets you is usable if more bulk is wanted, as it still outspeeds everything up to Scarf Abomasnow. U-turn can be used over Super Fang if you're more into scouting Crobat's initial check and gaining switch advantage momentum in the process. Taunt is what makes this Crobat a stall breaker, as it blocks most pokemon on stall teams from accomplshing much, and it prevents incoming ThunderWaves and Will-o-wisps which could badly cripple Crobat recovering health or statusing Crobat while it whittles them down with Super Fang and Brave Bird. Toxic can be used to whittle down walls after they've been taunted such as Chansey, Dusclops, and Deoxys-D, and can also and to weaken a Zapdos switch in. Toxic Spikes support will support Crobat is helpful for Crobat, as it helps wear down Chansey and Milotic a lot faster more quickly. This Crobat set pairs up nicely with Registeel, as it Crobat resists or is immune to Fighting- and is immune to Ground-type attacks, while Registeel resists Ice- and Rock-type moves. Crobat also pairs up nicely well with Donphan who is immune to Electric-type moves, resists Rock-type attacks, and can spin away Stealth Rocks, which can cripples Crobat in a long run.

[Other Options]

Crobat can utilize Hase to shut down set up sweepers who've already gotten up received some boosts. Bite can be is an option to hit Rotom for super effective damage, while and Crobat's Speed allows it to flinch it's opponent. Confuse Ray is also an option to give your opponent a chance to hurt themselves 50% of the time while giving you a free turn. A Nasty Plot set using SludgeBomb Sludge Bomb, Heat Wave, and DarkPulse Dark Pulse is an option, but despite Crobat's Speed, however it finds itself outclassed by Azelf and Celebi who hit harder and can get past Chansey. Acrobatics is still weaker than Brave Bird when you're not holding an item, and Crobat really benefits from Choice Band or Leftovers. A combination of Curse and White herb combo can be an interesting gimmick, but it becomes is walled very easily by Rock- and Steel-types. Whirlwind is Crobat's only phazing move and is a great move in general, but the fact that it makes Crobat move last always is a turn off.

[Checks and Counters]

Zapdos can take any move Crobat throws at it and Roost off the damage or ohko do severe damage with ThunderBolt Thunderbolt. Most of the Rotom formes can switch into Crobat fairly easily and ohko hurt it badly with ThunderBolt Thunderbolt. Aerodactyl and Jolteon are the only other pokemon in UU that hit 130 base Speed, and they both beat Crobat one on one with their stab moves STAB attacks. Registeel and Rhyperior resist Brave bird, and the former can paralyze Crobat while the latter would threatens Crobat with a Rock-type move. Espeon with Magic Bounce can bounce Taunt and threaten Crobat with a Psychic, but takes a lot of damage from Brave Bird.

[Dream World]

Crobat's Dream World ability is Infiltrator and it isn't as useful as Inner Focus. The only use Infiltrator has is to negate Reflect's the effect of Reflect and allow Choice Band Crobat to do as much damage as possible almost always. Infiltrator does allow you Crobat to beat teams that are supported by Dual Screens, as most teams that carry Dual screens are also either fully offensive or Baton Pass styled chains and a full powered Brave Bird can punch holes in both. This also allows you to ko Dual Screen users such as Azelf right off the bat.

GP 1/2

Ok I've revamped the OP and added the Choice Band set. I'll finish this up tomorrow and get ready for some QC checks. Also if someone could help me with the EVs on the main set because I agree with Random Pizzaman that Max Speed is pretty useless.

Also I'd doubt Nasty Plot Crobat has any use in UU with Azelf and Celebi especially since those two can get past Chansey
Crobat has Hypnosis, which is an important niche.

Confuse Ray is also an option to give your opponent a chance to hurt themselves 50% of the time while giving you a free turn. A Nasty Plot set using Sludge Bomb, Heat Wave, and Dark Pulse is an option, (comma not semi-colon) but despite Crobat's Speed, it finds itself outclassed by Azelf and Celebi, (comma) who hit harder and can get past Chansey. Acrobatics is still weaker than Brave Bird when you're not holding an item, and Crobat really benefits from Choice Band or Leftovers. Don't use Acrobatics as it's still weaker than Brave Bird even when Crobat is not holding an item, and Crobat prefers to hold a Choice Band or Leftovers. A combination of Curse and White herb can be an interesting gimmick, but it is walled very easily by Rock- and Steel-type Pokemon moves. Registeel and Rhyperior resist Brave Bird and the former can paralyze Crobat while the latter threatens with a Rock-type move. Espeon with Magic Bounce can bounce Taunt back and threaten Crobat with Psychic, but takes a lot of damage from Brave Bird. (I REALLY don't think Espeon should be listed here. Yes, it can bounce Taunt back and attempt to OHKO with Psychic, but Crobat has three other options - the most likely option is Brave Bird, which with Choice Band will OHKO or leave a rather large dent on Espeon (depending on the Espeon). U-turn also screws with Espeon due to the super effective hit. Even if Espeon's trying to "check" Crobat, it will get KOed or just something bad will happen (and who runs Choice Scarf Espeon IDK but that's uncommon). All in all, get the Espeon mention out of there. Not outspeeding Crobat also hurts.)

(Maybe give Slowbro and Donphan a mention? With their physical bulk, they can withstand multiple Brave Birds and retaliate with either Psychic or Stone Edge/Ice Shard, respectively. Slowbro can then Regenerator+Slack Off the damage off later on while Donphan limits Crobat's switch-in options with Stealth Rock. Donphan should only really be for Choice Band though as it does crap against the stallbreaker version (it's mostly a check). Speaking of checks, a Weavile mention for Ice Shard revenge killing could be good to note.)

[Dream World]

Crobat's Dream World ability is Infiltrator and it isn't as useful as Inner Focus. The only use Infiltrator has is to negate the effect of Reflect. Infiltrator does allow Crobat to beat teams that are supported by dual screens as most teams that do carry Dual screens them are either fully offensive or Baton Pass chains; (semi-colon) and a full-powered Brave Bird can punch holes in both with the help of Infiltrator. (BACKSPACE)

Problems
- Capitalize Pokemon
- Spaces
- Minor typos
- Some weird sentences (may have forgotten a word or don't make sense at all)
- it's Ice- and Rock-type not Ice and Rock-type, get that - in the first section

Mainly proofreading your own work after Saving and looking over the Spelling and Grammar Standards would help out. Good job though!

So i'm sure you're aware of this and are probably working on it right now, but Staraptor was banned, so any comparisons to it should be removed, just in case you didnt know

Insert hyphen since 'switch-in' is being used as a noun here under set comments for the CB set.

[Additional Comments]

252 HP EVs gives Crobat the bulk to survive most neutral or resisted attacks and 252 Speed EVs with a Jolly nature allow it to get off the first move the majority of the time. Insert full stop/period and resist->resists under AC for the stallbreaker set.

Zapdos can take on any move Crobat throws at it and Roost off the damage or do severe damage with Thunderbolt. Donphan and Slowbro, with their physical bulk are able to withstand multiple Brave Birds from Crobat and retaliate with Psychic or Stone Edge/Ice Shard respectively. Slowbro has Slack Off as well as Regenerator to keep it's health relatively high, while Donphan can set up Stealth Rock to punish Crobat each time it switches in. These two are mainly counters to Choice Band Crobat, however Donphan struggles to KO stallbreaker Crobat as it could simply Roost off any damage and even Taunt to prevent Stealth Rock. Weavile is also a check as an Ice Shard will do a large amount of damage and can pick off a weakened Crobat.

In this sentence you would need to switch 'Donphan and Slowbro', or switch 'Psychic or Stone Edge/Ice Shard'.

Also in the Dream World section you mention how the only use of Infiltrator is to negate Reflect while it also negates Light Screen. While not exactly useful ever, it is still technically incorrect to say that is its only use.
