Hello everyone!

I don't have much to say, so, let me present to you a brand new (none-gimmick) critical set!

Drapion (Scyther) @ Lum Berry / Life Orb / Black Glasses / Focus Sash
Ability: Sniper
EVs: 252 Atk / 4 SpD / 252 Spe
Jolly Nature
- Focus Energy
- Night Slash
- Cross Poison
- Swords Dance
Stats: 100HP / 150 Atk / 100 Def / 85 Spatk / 100 SpD / 135 Spe
Typing: Bug / Dark

Pretty self-explanatory. Cross Poison is for the fairy types who aren't steel-typed(and the high crit ratio is helpful too).

It's not the fact that it's two setup moves but which setup moves they are and the mon using them. It's gonna die before it pulls off the sweep.

And to add on to Brodaha's post, I suppose rhydon x Beedrill is also a "gimmick" since it too have sets running focus energy + RP or SD + RP(btw Scyther does have the option of running scope lens, which in conjunction with FE will allow all moves to be critical hits! Just another optional item I just thought of....).


Edit: it won't die against stall or balance lacking certain revenge killer. I'll admit, it does have trouble against Hyper offense teams, but It's a decent wall breaker. Maybe not the best one, but still a viable option nonetheless.

Stats:
HP 90 / Atk 137 / Def 67 / SpA 110 / SpD 67/ Spe 141 - BST 612.

I believe this is another viable set for Murkow, I also believe it should be added to the VR(imo at least). Murkrow -> Lycanroc-Dusk is an incredible wallbreaker and revenge killer, especially with CB (and SR support) it's capable of 2hko-ing some of the best physical wall(s) such as Wailmer x Toxapex(125/130), Onix x Vaporeon (110/170), Type: Null x Toxapex/Chansey & Milotic (95/185 - 245/95 - 170/154), Doublade x Flygon (89/180) etc. Heat Wave lures & 2hko Doublade x Dragonite who otherwise walls this set fairly well.

Here's some calcs to back up some of my claims:

Vs Type: Null x Toxapex/Chansey/Milotic

252 Atk Choice Band Tough Claws Murkrow Brave Bird vs. 252 HP / 0 Def Type: Null: 271-321 (49.8 - 59%) -- guaranteed 2HKO after Stealth Rock and Leftovers recovery

252 Atk Choice Band Tough Claws Murkrow Brave Bird vs. 4 HP / 252+ Def Type: Null: 210-247 (43.5 - 51.2%) -- 59% chance to 2HKO after Stealth Rock and Leftovers recovery. IIRC, Type: Null -> Milotic either runs a full on SpD EV spread of 252HP/252SpD or 252Def / 252SpD w/Bold or Calm nature but please correct me if I'm wrong. I have never used type: null as my milotic donor....

Sidenote: If type:Null Milotic is running a full on Physical set then CB TC Brave Bird has a 30.9% chance of 2hko-ing, So basically, the Milotic set depends on the EV spread.

252 Atk Choice Band Tough Claws Murkrow Brave Bird vs. 252 HP / 252+ Def Type: Null: 297-349 (42.7 - 50.2%) -- 41% chance to 2HKO after Stealth Rock and Leftovers recovery. This is FULL on physical Chansey set(245/95) and it still has a high chance of being 2hko-ed. Even tho the chansey set usually runs a mixed spread set of 252Evs in DeF and SpD.

252 Atk Choice Band Tough Claws Murkrow Brave Bird vs. 252 HP / 252+ Def Type: Null: 183-216 (46.4 - 54.8%) -- 98.4% chance to 2HKO after Stealth Rock and Leftovers recovery. Toxapex (95/185) has the lowest chance of surviving a BB from Murkrow.

Vs Onix x Vaporeon (110/170)

252 Atk Choice Band Tough Claws Murkrow Brave Bird vs. 252 HP / 252+ Def Onix: 195-229 (45.9 - 54%) -- 47.7% chance to 2HKO after Stealth Rock and Leftovers recovery.

Vs Wailmer x Toxapex (125/130)

252 Atk Choice Band Tough Claws Murkrow Brave Bird vs. 252 HP / 252+ Def Wailmer: 246-289 (53 - 62.2%) -- guaranteed 2HKO after Stealth Rock and Leftovers recovery.

Vs Doublade x Flygon (89/180) & Dragonite

4 SpA Murkrow Heat Wave vs. 252 HP / 0 SpD Doublade (Dragonite): 180-214 (47.1 - 56%) -- guaranteed 2HKO after Stealth Rock and Leftovers recovery.


252 Atk Choice Band Tough Claws Murkrow Crunch vs. 252 HP / 252+ Def Doublade(Flygon): 248-294 (64.9 - 76.9%) -- guaranteed 2HKO after Stealth Rock and Leftovers recovery (Heat Wave can 2hko too).

Gligar -> Persian-alola / Gyarados are a totally different story lmao.

I strongly recommend Choice band as Murkrow has pitiful bulk and will have little to no chance of setting up, but let's say you prefer to be more flexible, right? then Sharp Beak is the way to go(and Ofc it opens up the options of running SDs).


Edit: I didn't want to double post(assuming i didnt already?), but since I've found out that Sandygast can (finally) learn Stealth Rock, I believe it should be added to the VR as well. And I'll provide a sample set below:


Hitmontop (Sandygast) @ Leftovers
Ability: Intimidate
EVs: 252 HP / 4 Atk / 252 Def
Impish Nature
IVs: 0 Atk

Stats:
HP - 70 / Atk - 115 / Def - 140 / Spa - 70 / SpD - 120 / Spe - 50 BST = 565.

Pretty straight forward what this set does, Ghost / Ground typing is pretty unqiue and with intimidate it checks plethora of powerhouses such as Archen x Hitmonlee, certain gallade variants etc. I'm pretty sure sandygast has other viable sets but this is all I thought of or at least tested from my own experience.

Togekiss (Vigoroth) @ Life Orb / Silk Scarf / Lum berry
Ability: Hustle
EVs: 252 Atk / 4 SpD / 252 Spe
Jolly Nature
- Hone Claws
- Extreme Speed
- Night Slash / Ice Punch
- Drain Punch / Ice Punch

Stats:110/90/90/95/65/130

The stats don't look (too) promising, but it is noteworthy that vigoroth is still capable of 2hkoin a lot of top notch walls after a single HC(Notably Onix -> Vaporeon aka "vaponix"). And thanks to Espeed, it's able to outpace faster pokemon such as scyther x Bibarel/Breloom, none-ghost typed vivillon pokemon etc. Night slash and Drain Punch are its only way of combating bulky Ghost and Steel types who otherwise wall it. Ice Punch is for Gligar assuming you already have something else to deal with the ghost and or steel types.

Now clearly it does come with (major) flaws. Like the fact it requires a lot of support since its bulk is below average and struggles against bulky ghost types(mainly unaware users such as Dusclops), and even with Drain Punch some steel types still give it major trouble(such as Doublade x dragonite).

Salamence (Doublade) @ Lum Berry
Ability: Intimidate / Moxie
EVs: 252 Atk / 4 Def / 252 Spe
Jolly Nature
- Dragon Dance
- Iron Head
- Sacred Sword
- Roost

Stats:89/150/130/95/79/85

Basically an offensive variant of the Dragonite set(only weaker, yet faster). No further input as I wasn't the one who made this set(a friend of mine did I'm not even sure if these are the evs or nature he ran).

Scolipede (Doublade) @ Air Balloon/ Lum Berry / Ghostium Z / Colbur Berry
Ability: Speed Boost
EVs: 252 Atk / 56 Def / 200 Spe
Adamant Nature. / Jolly Nature
- Swords Dance
- Shadow Claw
- Sacred Sword
- Substitute / Shadow Sneak

Stats:79/155/140/60/39/100

A pretty decent set from my experience so far. Air balloon imo, is its best item since it allows doublade to setup on pokemon who would otherwise force it out(such as gligar x gyarados, Rhydon x gallade lackin Koff etc). However, Ghostium Z allows it to break pass bulkier foes much easier. Shadow claw and Sacred sword is perfect coverage. Substitute is great(especially if you're running air ballon) since doublade can force switches itself against certain pokemon such as opposing doublade(s) for example. Shadow sneak could also be used over sub since even after a speed boost doublade can still easily be outpaced by most choice scarf users or pokemon who's speed tier is above 145(assuming you're not running jolly).


Its main flaw is its pitiful special defense. It can also be picked off by opposing shadow sneak or sucker punch users assuming you're not running substitute or behind one.

I'll add more pokemon later.

Stoutland (Doublade) @ Life Orb / Air Balloon / Ghostium Z
Ability: Sand Rush
EVs: 252 Atk / 4 Def / 252 Spe
Adamant Nature / Jolly Nature

Another doublade set/sand rush sweeper(mainly midgame). Adamant is recommended for maximum damage output(especially against foes such as vaporeon x onix or none persian-alola gligars). However jolly allows Doublade to outpace a great portion of the tier(reaches 458 while in the sand which is a speed tier of 159 if im not mistake?) and in return allows doublade to not rely on shadow sneak as much(notably outspeeds gligar x gyarados w/o the sand if it's not running evs in spe).

Shadow claw + Sacred sword is again perfect coverage. Iron head is the stronger STAB option over S-Claw but is inferior since bulky water types will be able to check doublade much easier.

Life Orb vs Air Balloon comes down to preference. Life orb further boost damage output, while Air balloon yet again allows doublade to setup much easier against a wider portion of the meta. Ghostium Z is again for getting pass more bulkier foes such as Rhydon x Dragonite assuming Stealth rocks is up.

Speaking of sand, I was surprised to see that nosepass wasn't ranked at all. Which is kinda crazy since it has a couple useful sets.

Hippowdon (Nosepass) @ Smooth Rock
Ability: Sand Stream
EVs: 252 HP / 4 Def / 252 SpD
IVs: 0 Spe
Sassy Nature
- Slack Off
- Toxic / Stone Edge
- Volt Switch
- Stealth Rock

Stats:70/85/175/75/120/45

Arguably the best sand setter in the metagame. Lileep only edges it out by being slower(which is irrevelant against rain teams since pelipper will always be slower than you anwyays hence winning the weather battle) and a better typing. However, everything else Lileep does, Nosepass does it better while also giving momentum which is a huge bonus for sand teams. Nosepass x hippowdon real Competitor is gligar who also does the same thing, plus the fact its not nearly as passive(and isnt total bait to P-Don lol).

But anyway.......Nosepass also checks the same pokemon as lileep x hippowdon does, excludin a couple water types of course. Such as Electabuzz x Vivillon/Hydreigon lackin Focus miss, Boomburxt abusers such as Litleo x noivern or none substitute Type:Null x noivern(a great set btw, that featured metronome as an item made by a friend of mine lol) etc.

But at las, Toxic is its only way of inflicting any notably damage which makes it a sitting duck against certain pokemon. And its typing doesn't do it much justice either

Vaporeon (Nosepass) @ Leftovers
Ability: Water Absorb
EVs: 252 HP / 252 Def / 4 SpA
Bold Nature
- Wish
- Protect
- Scald
- Volt Switch

Stats:105/55/145/110/120/40

A pretty decent wish passer that (again) gives momentum.


These are are just the only two nosepass sets I've tried so far. Haven't tested Nosepass x Umbreon/sylveon just yet but they show potential with their excellent mix bulk.

Noivern (Meowth) @ Focus Sash / Life Orb / Metronome
Ability: Infiltrator
EVs: 252 SpA / 4 SpD / 252 Spe
Timid Nature
IVs: 0 Atk
- Nasty Plot
- Boomburst
- Flamethrower / Focus Blast
- Shadow Ball / Focus Blast

Stats:85/85/80/92/80/158

The main niche this set has is the fact its the only Boomburst user that is able to boost its SpA(well, the only one with Nasty plot if you count Work up Noivern:Null).

Requires a lot of support due to its bulk being extremely mediocre and being easily picked off by priority. Tapu Lele or Archen x Whimscott are pretty good partner(s) to pair with it lol.

Boomburst is obvious stab. Flamethrower
helps against steel types and is more reliable than Focus Miss, shadow ball for the bulky ghost types namely dusclops variants.


Aegislash (Porygon2) @ Leftovers
Ability: Stance Change
EVs: 252 HP / 252 Def / 4 SpD
Bold Nature
IVs: 0 Atk
- King's Shield
- Toxic
- Recover
- Foul Play

Stats:86/20/96/110/196/85

Finally found a DECENT aegislash set that actually has reliable recovery. This just goes to show how versatile porygon2 cam be. Similar to Type:null, it has sets that no other pokemon can pull off successfully speaking(No guard Machamp set doesnt count imo, that set is too gimmicky lol).

Anyways, King's Shield helps compensate for its medicore 80/96 Physical bulk. Foul Play may seem like a weird option at first, since KS lowers the opponents attack(assumin they made contact) but it's mainly for Gengar-M who would otherwise trap this set with ease.

I think Nidoking is a better crevolution with Sheer Force, since it gives just as much coverage as well as a Ground typing. It's also a stage 3 crevolution, meaning that the crevolver often has better base stats.

Some examples:
Magmar/Nidoking: 85/125/77/130/105/113, Fire/Ground
Electabuzz/Nidoking: 85/113/77/125/105/125, Electric/Ground
Kadabra/Nidoking: 60/65/50/150/90/125, Psychic/Ground

Compare this to Scyther/Rampardos's 90/150/100/70/100/105 Bug/Flying (and no Sheer Force-boosted STAB attacks) and you see that Nidoking is a much better crevolution. Magmar/Nidoking can even lure special attackers with its just-as-high 125 Attack and Earthquake or Superpower to hit Chansey crevolutions.

Considering that Scyther is the only legal (Sneasel is illegal) first-stage unevolved (Kadabra and Electabuzz are second-stage NFE) Pokémon to have a base Speed stat over 100 (Voltorb is at a flat 100), and that Rampardos' evolution doesn't do anything useful to the Type combo, I don't see it as much of a threat.

The only viable donor of sheer force really is Nidoking. Given that Rampardos can only be used with first-stage Pokemon, in a metagame where the average speed tier would be around 120-130, an evolution that donates no speed whatsoever is mediocre at best. A case could be made for wallbreaking sets, but even then not many first-stage Pokemon have a movepool that allows them to fulfill that role.

Nidoking itself only gives +20 SPE, but that's more than enough for second-stage Pokemon, which generally have a higher base speed than first-stage Pokemon.
 
So... I have a bayleef that cross-evolves into togetic, but tells me that they are not consecutive evolutionary stages, but vigoroth can use it just fine, can someone tell me what I'm missing?

I can't cross voltorb with vibrava because the attack would be too low. I get that the stat would equal 0, but other OM's like MnM set the minimum to 1 for similar scenarios. I'm not saying that I need to use this set, however other strategies, like trick room, are being unnecessarily restricted by a rule with an simple fix.

Also, both pokémons exemplified have in common 2 pokemons in the evolution line and a mega evolution. So, if could this be possible, both pokemons must also be able to mega evolve. This ways things like gligar, murkrow, etc., won't get too OP. And this is not MnM so just one mega per team.

For Cross Evolution, the base species is still technically the species. For example, Pikachu evolved into something like Greninja can still hold and utilize Light Ball correctly. The same applies for Clamperl and Cubone. This of course also means that you can't Mega Evolve anything, since a Pokemon has to be fully evolved in order to Mega Evolve.
 
Hey I try to evolve Dusclops into Sylveon.
dusclops evolves into duscnoir. eeve into sylveon, so it should be possible.
however, the validation says otherwise.

are the eevee evolutions an exception?

Do Pokemon gain/lose weight when cross-evolving? Outside of hidden power, grass knot is Magmar's (Greninja) and Electabuzz's (Greninja) only grass attack, and I want to take this into consideration when choosing a check.

You're not the first to call it out. It's something the original creator of CE did(whom isn't around anymore) due to not wanting ridiculous things like unaware Chansey(via Clefable) and such.
