[OVERVIEW]

Crustle's access to the combination of Stealth Rock, Spikes, and Shell Smash along with its good Attack and two useful abilities allows it to function as both a Shell Smash sweeper and a suicide lead. Shell Smash turns Crustle into a offensive threat, as it can boost its already decent attack to very high levels while also allowing it to outspeed most of the unboosted metagame. In addition, Crustle's naturally high Defense allows it to set up on tier staples such as Komala, Bouffalant, and Muk. STAB Stone Edge and X-Scissor along with options such as Earthquake and Knock Off allow Crustle to hit the entire tier for at least neutral damage. Crustle's access to both Spikes and Stealth Rock along with its two best abilities in Sturdy and Weak Armor allow lead sets to often get up multiple layers of entry hazards. Unfortunately, Crustle's impressive physical bulk is somewhat offset by a vulnerability to all entry hazards, as well as by its poor defensive typing and Special Defense. Thus, Crustle is not as bulky in practice as it may seem, and it struggles to set up if offensive threats such as Golem, Swanna, and Pawniard are present. Crustle also struggles with a mediocre Speed stat, as it is quite slow unboosted and will still be outrun by the tier's most common Choice Scarf users, such as Electivire, Rapidash, Swanna, and Mr. Mime even at +2, although it can generally tank a hit if they lack super effective coverage. The lead set also fails to threaten several of the tier's most common entry hazard removers, and Pokemon such as Silvally-Water and Sandslash can come in without much trouble and remove its entry hazards.

Moves
=========

The combination of Stone Edge and Earthquake allows Crustle to hit almost every Pokemon in the tier for at least neutral damage, with one very notable exception in Bronzor, which the last move allows it to hit hard. Knock Off gives Crustle a way to 2HKO all variants of Bronzor, as well as giving Crustle a way to rid the many Eviolite users in the tier of their needed item, with targets including Mareanie, Metang, and Dusclops. X-Scissor is another option that allows Crustle to still hit Bronzor reasonably hard while also allowing it to hit bulkier Grass-types such as Quilladin and Leafeon for super effective damage. However, this option loses out on the ability to OHKO specially defensive variants of Bronzor.

Set Details
=========

White Herb allows Crustle to keep its high Defense stat intact after using Shell Smash, which notably allows it to comfortably take a hit from Choice Scarf users such as Electivire and Rapidash as well as common priority users such as Shiftry and Purugly before OHKOing them in return. This also can potentially give Crustle an opportunity to set up Shell Smash again, jacking up both its power and speed to breathtaking levels. Another option is Rockium Z, which gives Crustle a one-time nuke that circumvents Stone Edge's meager accuracy and OHKOes Gourgeist-XL after Stealth Rock damage, a Pokemon that otherwise gives Crustle issues. However, such a set must be played with more caution, as Crustle immediately becomes much more vulnerable to Choice Scarf and priority users. Sturdy is the preferred ability here, as it guarantees that Crustle will be able to set up Shell Smash as long as entry hazards are kept off the field. Using Weak Armor is an option that can potentially make Crustle extremely fast at the cost of some bulk, but the prevalence of priority users such as Shiftry as well as the fact that the White Herb could be used up before Crustle actually uses Shell Smash make this a risky option at best.

Usage Tips
=========

Shell Smash Crustle is best saved for the mid-or late-game, when it will have an easier time sweeping through teams. It is a good idea to remove at least some of its offensive and defensive checks before sending Crustle out. Defensive checks to watch out for include Gourgeist-XL and Pyukumuku, while offensive ones include potential Choice Scarf users like Electivire and Mr. Mime as well as priority users such as Shiftry and Swanna. Crustle can also operate as an excellent wallbreaker if it is unable to sweep, with defensive Pokemon including Mawile and Bronzor being prime targets. Avoid switching Crustle in directly, as it cannot afford to take much damage if it is aiming to be out of range of the common Choice Scarf threats and priority users. Pivoting Crustle in through a slow U-turn or Volt Switch or after one of your Pokemon has fainted is generally a better option. Removing entry hazards before Crustle comes in is an excellent idea, as it is weak to Stealth Rock and will take damage from Spikes and Toxic Spikes as well. Crustle cannot afford to take much damage before it gets in range of some of the tier's Choice Scarf users and priority users. Crustle should ideally attempt to set up on physical attackers that don't immediately threaten it or foes that it can force out thanks to its decent base Attack that threatens a good amount of the tier. Prime points of entry include Kecleon, Purugly, and Choice Band Komala. Attempting to set up on some of the more passive Pokemon in the tier is an option as well, but Crustle must be extremely careful of status, which most of the passive Pokemon in the tier can spread. As such, setting up against Pokemon such as Gourgeist-XL, Mareanie, and Dusclops should be avoided, as they threaten to burn Crustle. Bulky Water-types are a big problem for Crustle, as most of them will OHKO it if they aren't eliminated or brought into KO range the first turn you see them. A specific mention goes to Pyukumuku, which isn't bothered by what Crustle does and will wall it out. Such Pokemon should absolutely be removed before Crustle attempts to sweep.

Team Options
=========

Entry hazard removal is much appreciated, as Crustle is weak to Stealth Rock and will take hefty damage if it switches in with it on the field. This is especially imperative with the Rockium Z set, as Crustle will be in range of an OHKO from Choice Scarf users such as Pinsir and Rapidash after Stealth Rock damage and the Defense drop. All entry hazards will also break Sturdy. Thus, Defog or Rapid Spin support from teammates such as Swanna, Altaria, Komala, and Sandslash is very helpful. Crustle greatly appreciates entry hazards from teammates such as Quilladin, Mawile, and Bronzor on the opposing side of the field, as they let it more easily punch through the opponent's team. Crustle is vulnerable to special attackers, so having a way of dealing with them is imperative. Choice Scarf Electivire takes out threats such as Swanna, Kadabra, and Mr. Mime, while Assault Vest Komala can tank many hits from special attackers thanks to its naturally decent bulk before threatening them with its powerful attacks. Ways of crippling or removing Choice Scarf and priority users are very helpful for Crustle, with revenge killing them with your own Choice Scarf users such as Electivire and Pinsir being a good option. Another option is checking them defensively; Sandslash, for example, can tank anything Electivire or Rapidash throws at it before OHKOing them with Earthquake. In addition to the aforementioned bulky Water-types, Crustle will struggle to break certain physical walls, such as Colbur Berry Gourgeist-XL and physically defensive Golem. As such, having a wallbreaker as a teammate is appreciated. Exeggutor, Shiftry, Servine, and Beheeyem are potential options here.

Moves
==========

Crustle's access to Spikes and Knock Off is largely the only reason to use it over lead Golem. As such, they should absolutely be used on every lead Crustle. Spikes and Stealth Rock combine for a choking entry hazard stack that can wear down opposing teams very quickly, while Knock Off allows Crustle to potentially annoy other leads that appreciate having their item, such as the aforementioned Golem, as well as giving it a good way to fight against Pokemon that rely on Eviolite and Leftovers, such as Bronzor, Mareanie, and Lickilicky. The last move slot is largely filler. Stone Edge is a nice, powerful STAB move that can dissuade some of the tier's most notable Defoggers such as Rotom-S and Swanna from switching into Crustle, while Rock Blast allows Crustle to greatly threaten Focus Sash-reliant Pokemon like Masquerain, Kadabra, and Leavanny while also neutering enemy lead Crustle.

Set Details
==========

Maximum Speed investment with a Jolly nature allows Crustle to at worst Speed tie with the ever-present lead Golem, as well as with opposing lead Crustle, while maximum Attack investment allows Crustle to hit as hard as possible. Using Custap Berry with Sturdy allows Crustle to ensure it can almost always get at least Stealth Rock up and one layer of Spikes up before fainting. An alternative to the above set is running Focus Sash along with the ability Weak Armor. This ensures that Crustle will be able to tank a hit at least once while also gaining a large Speed boost if said hit is physical. This also has the added benefit of lowering Crustle's Defense, which is ironically useful in this case, as Crustle's goal is to get out of the way for the next teammate. Ideally this allows Crustle to at least get up Stealth Rock and one layer of Spikes, but it is inconsistent compared to the other set, as it relies on Crustle facing a physical attacker.

Usage Tips
==========

Crustle should almost always be the lead, unless the opponent has a very obvious Taunt user such as Misdreavus that threatens Crustle's ability to get up entry hazards. It can still be worth it to send Crustle in on certain physically based Taunt users, as the combination of Knock Off and either Stone Edge or Rock Blast is nothing to sneeze at offensively. Crustle should be wary of leading against hazard removers such as Silvally-Fighting, Sandslash, Avalugg, and Silvally-Water, which wall it and are able to cleanly keep its hazards off the field. It should also be somewhat careful of leading off against Golem and opposing Crustle, which oftentimes carry Rock Blast. Crustle can potentially be saved for later if these threats are present so that it can put its hazards up once they have been effectively dealt with. Stealth Rock should generally be used first, as it is the more overall useful entry hazard. The next step should be to set up as many layers of Spikes as possible in order to threaten chip damage on Stealth Rock-resistant Pokemon such as Sandslash, Mawile, and Machoke. Using Knock Off on opposing leads is oftentimes a good option. Lead Golem, for example, greatly relies on its Weakness Policy or its Custap Berry to effectively do its job. This also has the added benefit of breaking Sturdy. This Crustle should only be switched out against hazard removers that is has no way of dealing with, such as Silvally-Water and Sandslash. Outside of those situations it is usually better to let Crustle get KOed and let a more overall useful Pokemon take the reins. Custap Berry allows Crustle to set a hazard while sacrificing itself, which is great for keeping momentum and letting offensive teammates such as Purugly or Pawniard take center stage.

Team Options
==========

Lead Crustle works best on hyper offense teams that appreciate multiple layers of entry hazards. Finding a way to beat Defoggers and spinners that threaten to remove all of Crustle's hard work is generally a very good idea. Defiant users such as Pawniard and Purugly can force Defoggers into a very uncomfortable situation, with Contrary Servine being another option. Spinblocking using Silvally-Ghost or Taunt Misdreavus is an option to give insurance against spinners, although finding another way to deal with common spinners is an option as well, such as Fighting-type coverage for taking on Komala and Water- or Grass-type coverage for Sandslash. Many of the tier's offensive threats appreciate the offensive pressure that hazards give, as it makes it harder to switch into them. Combusken, Shiftry, Pinsir, Z-Rain Dance Swanna, and mixed Electivire are all offensive powerhouses that appreciate hazard stacking, as it aids them in their efforts to break down and/or sweep the opposing team.

[STRATEGY COMMENTS]
Other Options
==============

Rock Tomb can be used on the lead set in order to slow down the opposing lead and potentially make it very easy for the next Pokemon in line to do its job. However, this is generally inferior to the options provided. Crustle can use Shell Smash and Stealth Rock on the same set if role compression is needed. This particular set has the added benefit of working as both a lead and a sweeper, and using Stealth Rock to bluff an entry hazard set before boosting with Shell Smash can put the opponent into an extremely uncomfortable situation. This set also has the added benefit of greatly threatening some of the tier's most common Defoggers, such as Swanna and Altaria. However, this set lacks Spikes, making it a somewhat inferior lead to Golem, and as a sweeper it will lack the coverage needed to sweep many teams. Substitute can also be used on Shell Smash Crustle to set up on certain threats it would otherwise be hesitant to take on, such as Gourgeist and Bronzor, as well as giving it insurance against Sucker Punch users such as Shiftry. However, the aforementioned coverage issues hold this option back a bit. An EV spread of 248 HP / 216 Def / 44 Spe with Leftovers or Iapapa Berry turns Crustle into a decently bulky defensive wall capable of setting hazards for the team. While this uses the same set as the suicide lead, the gameplan changes to wanting to keep Crustle alive, as it can come in multiple times per game to set hazards against teams; however, often you only need to set hazards once for teams to function. Using Rock Wrecker with Rockium Z is an option to give Crustle a monstrously powerful Continental Crush and allow it to land a guaranteed OHKO onto Gourgeist-XL without Stealth Rock, something the other sets are incapable of doing. However, Rock Wrecker’s downsides outside of the Z-Move make Stone Edge a generally better option.

Checks and Counters
==================

**Water-types**: Many Water-types have a surplus of ways to deal with Crustle, exploiting its pathetic special bulk to quickly KO it with moves such as Silvally-Water's Surf, Swanna's Scald, and Floatzel's Hydro Pump. Silvally-Water and Swanna can also proceed to Defog away any hazards that Crustle puts down. However, they must be mindful of Sturdy, since if Crustle is at full health, they will not be able to OHKO it. In addition, none of them can safely switch into a set up Shell Smash variant, and Swanna and Floatzel have to be cautious of switching in even if Crustle hasn't set up.

**Fast Special Attackers**: Special attackers that are faster than Crustle such as Kadabra and Exeggutor as well as certain specially based Choice Scarf users such as Swanna, Floatzel, and Mr. Mime can come in on Crustle, sometimes even after a Shell Smash, and proceed to obliterate it due to its putrid Special Defense stat. None of them can safely switch in on Crustle, however.

**Physical Walls**: Many of the tier's physical walls can stop Crustle in its tracks even after a Shell Smash. Physically defensive Machoke does an admirable job of walling Crustle, although it dislikes losing its Eviolite. Gourgeist-XL can burn Crustle and threaten it with Foul Play, but it must watch out for Continental Crush. Physically defensive Golem can tank anything that Crustle throws at it before heavily damaging it with Stone Edge or badly poisoning it. Neither Gourgeist-XL nor Golem can confidently switch in, however.

**Revenge Killers**: Choice Scarf users such as Electivire, Pinsir, and Rapidash as well as priority users such as Aqua Jet Swanna and Sucker Punch Shiftry can come in on and threaten a set-up Crustle. Most of them will not KO without prior chip damage, however.

**Entry Hazard Removers**: Defoggers such as Swanna and Silvally-Water as well as spinners such as Avalugg and Sandslash threaten to remove lead Crustle's hard work, with Silvally-Water and Sandslash even being able to switch into lead Crustle and dispose of its hazards right in its face.

**Pyukumuku**: Even though it is a Water-type, Pyukumuku gets a special mention, as it can hard counter the Shell Smash set with its amazing bulk and ability in Unaware. It must be somewhat wary of switching into the Rockium Z set, as Continental Crush followed up by a normal Stone Edge will finish it off if entry hazards are up, but outside of that, Pyukumuku completely walls Crustle.

[OVERVIEW]

  • Crustle's unique access to Stealth Rock, Spikes, and Shell Smash along with it's good attacking stats and two useful abilities allow it to function as both a Shell Smash Sweeper and a Suicide Lead. Mention Smash first since that is the first set. Only really Sturdy should be mentioned here.
  • Crustle's access to the coveted combination of both Spikes and Stealth Rock, along with it's two best abilities in Sturdy and Weak Armor, allow lead Crustle to often get up multiple layers of entry hazards. Should remove Weak Armor from here since Sturdy Custap is the better option. Adjust accordingly. Also, mention how this set has little competition and is a staple of Spikes offense teams.
  • Shell Smash turns Crustle into a potent sweeper, boosting its already decent Attack to very high levels and allowing it to outspeed most of the non-scarfed meta game. In addition, Crustle's naturally high Defense means that finding a place to set up isn't super difficult. This point should be the second one considering Shell Smash is the main set. Give examples of what it sets up against.
  • STAB Stone Edge along with options such as Earthquake, Knock Off, and X-Scissor allow Crustle to hit the entire tier for at least neutral damage.
  • However, a poor defensive typing along with a meager Special Defense stat means that Crustle is not as bulky as its high Defense stat might lead one to believe. Bit of awkward phrasing here. Would be more accurate to say even though Crustle is physically bulky, it is easy to wear down and weak to common attackers such as...which can make it difficult to set up.
  • Crustle's poor speed is an issue, as it is quite slow unboosted and is outpaced by many of the tier's most common scarfers even at +2. Give examples. Also as a note, Crustle usually needs to be chipped down to be revenge killed by common Scarfers such as Electivire and Mr. Mime.
  • Finally, all variants of Crustle are vulnerable to Taunt users, as they can prevent it from setting up entry hazards or using Shell Smash. Give examples b/c Taunt users are not necessarily common.
Mention that a major flaw of the entry hazard stack set is that Crustle is easily checked by common Defoggers such as Silvally-Fighting and Silvally-Water and so it can be difficult to keep entry hazards up.

  • X-Scissor is another option that allows Crustle to still hit Bronzor reasonably hard while being allowing it to hit Grass types such as Shiftry and Simisage for Super Effective damage. However, this option loses out on the ability to guarantee a 2HKO onto Bronzor, which is arguably more important. +2 Knock Off OHKOs SpD Bronzor after rocks and +2 X-Scissor 2HKOs SpD variants, so adjust this point accordingly.

  • Rockium Z gives Crustle a one time nuke that circumvents Stone Edge's meager accuracy. However, such a set must be played with more caution, as Crustle immediately becomes much more vulnerable to both scarfers and priority. Z-Stone Edge is also used to OHKO Gourg-XL after rocks, something that would otherwise check Crustle.
  • Sturdy is the preferred ability here, as it guarantees that Crustle will be able to set up Shell Smash as long as entry hazards are kept off the field. Using Weak Armor is an option, but the prevalence of priority users such as Shiftry make this a risky proposition at best.

It is a good idea to remove at least some of it's offensive and defensive checks before sending Crustle out. Give examples. Also, in a separate point you should emphasize how Smash Crustle can act as a breaker in games it cannot sweep, allowing for a teammate to clean late-game.
  • Avoid switching Crustle in directly, as it cannot afford to take much damage if it is aiming to be out of range of the common scarfers and priority users. Bringing it in off of a slow U-turn/Volt Switch or after one of your Pokemon has fainted is generally a better option.
  • Removing entry hazards before Crustle comes in is an excellent idea, as Crustle is weak to Stealth Rock and cannot afford to take much damage before it gets in range of some of the tiers scarfers and priority users.
  • Be sure to keep in mind that Crustle is quite slow before it sets up, meaning that the opponent will likely have time to strike first if given the opportunity. Crustle should ideally attempt to set up on physical attackers that don't immediately threaten it, or things that it can force out thanks to it's decent base attack being threatening to a good amount of the tier. Give examples. For example, it sets up against CB Komala and Kecleon.
  • Attempting to set up on some of the more passive Pokemon in the tier is an option as well, but Crustle must be extremely careful of status, which most of the passive Pokemon in the tier can spread. Need examples here for better context. For example, Crustle should never try to set up against Mareanie.
  • Bulky Waters are a bigger problem for Crustle, being that most of them will OHKO him if they aren't killed the first turn you see them, or at least brought into KO range. Specific mentioning to Pyukumuku, who cares none for what crustle does and will wall it out. Such mons should absolutely be removed before Crustle attempts to sweep.

  • Entry Hazard support is much appreciated, as Crustle is weak to Stealth Rock and will take hefty damage if it switches in with rocks on the field. This is especially imperative with the Rockium set, as Crustle will be in range of an OHKO from scarfers such as Pinsir and Rapidash at -1 defense after a Stealth Rock. As such, Defog or Rapid Spin support from things such as Swanna, Altaria, Komala, and Sandslash are very helpful.
  • Ways of crippling or removing scarfers and priority users are very helpful for Crustle. Burn support is a good option, as many of the tiers scarfers and priority users are physical. Things such as Gourgeist-XL or Rapidash are excellent options. Carrying a good counter to specific Pokemon is also a good way to deal with them; for example, Sandslash or Silvally-Ground can handle Electivire and Rapidash. Second part should be its own point. Also, it'd be more accurate to emphasize Pokemon that revenge kill or directly threaten Scarers/faster threats/priority rather than burn so you should mention burn after.
  • In addition to the aforementioned bulky water types, Crustle will struggle to break certain physical walls, such as Colbur Berry Gourgeist-XL and physically defensive Golem. As such, wallbreaker is appreciated. Abomasnow, Shiftry, Servine, and Beheeyem are potential options here.
Mention Pokemon that can check special attackers for Smash Crustle. Doesn't have to be defensive walls because Crustle appreciates offensive support. Also mention that Smash Crustle itself appreciates entry hazard support to wear down its checks.

Moves
==========
  • Crustle's access to Spikes is largely the only reason to use it over lead Golem, and should absolutely be used on every Suicide Lead Crustle.
  • Knock Off allows Crustle to potentially annoy other leads that appreciate having their item, such as the aforementioned Golem, as well as giving it a good way to fight back against some Taunt users, such as Monferno. Last part is not really a good example b/c Monf resists Knock and you could Stone Edge twice. Replace Taunt users with Eviolite and Leftovers reliant Pokemon such as Bronzor, Mareanie, and Lickilicky.
  • The last move slot is largely filler. Stone Edge is a nice, powerful STAB move that can dissuade some of the tiers most notable Defoggers from switching into Crustle. Rock Blast allows Crustle to potentially break substitutes (need examples) and potentially neuter opposing lead Crustle entirely. (same with Leavanny and Masquerain) Toxic can also effectively be used, and is notably Crustle's only real way of damaging lead Golem. Not true because it can run EQ so I'd remove this point as well as Toxic entirely.
Set Details
==========
  • Max Speed with a Jolly Nature allows Crustle to at worst speed tie with the ever present lead Golem and opposing lead Crustle while also generally making it as fast as possible.
  • The combination of Focus Sash and Weak Armor ensures that Crustle will be able to tank a hit at least once, while also gaining a large speed boost if said hit is physical. This also has the added benefit of lowering Crustle's defense, which is ironically useful in this case as Crustle's goal is to die and get out of the way for the next teammate. Ideally this allows Crustle to at least get up Stealth Rock and one layer of Spikes. Content here is fine, just need to specify Weak Armor Sash as an alternative to Custap Sturdy.
Mention Custap Sturdy as a second point here and briefly mention why it is used over Weak Armor Sash (more consistent at keeping up entry hazards due to Custap).

Usage Tips
==========
  • Crustle should almost always be the lead, unless the opponent has a very obvious Taunt user that threatens Crustle's ability to get up hazards. It can still be worth it to send Crustle in on certain physically based Taunt users, as the combination of Knock Off and either Stone Edge or Rock Blast is nothing to sneeze at offensively. Need to give examples of those Taunt users. Also, mention that Crustle should be wary of entry hazard removers such as Sandslash, Avalugg, Silvally-Water, and Silvally-Fighting because they can effectively remove entry hazards and wall Crustle.
  • Stealth Rock should generally be used first, as it is the more overall useful entry hazard. The next step should be to set up as many layers of Spikes as possible.
  • Using Knock Off on opposing leads is oftentimes a good option. Lead Golem, for example, greatly relies on its Weakness Policy or its Custap Berry to effectively do it's job, so losing it can be problematic. This also has the added benefit of breaking Sturdy. This is also Crustle's only weapon against Sandslash, who can otherwise comfortably switch in and spin away any hazards Crustle has put down.
  • Lead Crustle should only be switched out against hazard removers that is has no way of dealing with, such as Silvally-Water. Outside of those situations it is usually better to let Crustle die and let a more overall useful Pokemon take the reigns.
Mention how Custap comes into play when setting entry hazards.

Team Options
==========
  • Suicide Lead Crustle works best on Hyper Offense teams that appreciate multiple layers of entry hazards.
  • Finding a way to beat Defoggers and Spinners that threaten to remove all of Crustle's hard work is generally a very good idea. Defiant users such as Pawniard or the less common Purugly can force Defoggers into a very uncomfortable situation, with Contrary Servine being another option. Spinblocking can be difficult on hyper offense due to a lack of good offensive Ghost types, with Shadow Sneak Kecleon or the very rare smaller Gourgeist forms being the only real options. In this case, it is generally better to have a plan to threaten the most common spinners, such as Fighting type coverage for Komala and Avalugg and Water/Grass type coverage for Sandslash. Shadow Sneak Kecleon doesn't count because it's not blocking spin off the switch.
  • Electrode is a very interesting partner for lead Crustle, as it can Taunt opposing Defoggers while straight up forcing out the common Swanna. It also has the valued ability to easily set up dual screens, making the 1/2 punch of Crustle and Electrode an excellent option for screen teams.
Mention Pokemon that appreciate the entry hazard support. This can include breakers and cleaners.

  • Rock Tomb can be used on the lead set in order to slow down the opposing lead and potentially make it very easy for the next Pokemon in line to do its job. However, this is generally inferior to the options provided.

This particular set has the added benefit of working as both a lead and a sweeper, and using Stealth Rock to bluff a hazard set before boosting with Shell Smash can put the opponent into an extremely uncomfortable situation. However, this set lacks Spikes, making it a somewhat inferior lead to Golem, and as a sweeper it will lack the coverage needed to sweep many teams. Also allows it to more easily chip down entry hazard removers or to straight up knock them out (Swanna and Alt).
  • An optional EV Spread in 248 HP / 216 Def / 44 Spe and Leftovers turns Crustle into a decently bulky defensive wall capable of setting hazards for the team. While this uses the same set as the suicide lead, the play style changes to wanting to keep Crustle alive, as it can come in multiple times per game to set hazards against teams, but often you only need to set hazards once for teams to function.
  • Using Rock Wrecker with Rockium Z is an option to give Crustle a monstrously powerful Continental Crush and allow it to land a guaranteed OHKO onto Gourgeist-XL, something the other sets are incapable of doing. However, Rock Wrecker’s downsides outside of the Z Move make Stone Edge a generally better option.
  • Poison Jab is an interesting option that allows Crustle to heavily damage Granbull and score an OHKO onto Shiinotic, which otherwise gives Crustle serious issues. However, the loss of coverage really hurts, as Crustle will either have to give up on its way to hit Bronzor or one of the precious components of the EdgeQuake combo. Not worth it.
Checks and Counters

==================
  • Water Types: Many Water types in the tier have a surplus of ways to deal with Crustle, abusing it's pathetic special bulk to quickly KO it with moves such as Silvally-Water's Surf, Swanna's Scald, or Floatzel's Hydro Pump. Silvally-Water and Swanna can also proceed to Defog away any hazards that Crustle puts down. However, they must be thoughtful of Sturdy, since if Crustle is at full health, they will not be able to OHKO it. In addition, none of them can safely switch into a set up Shell Smash variant.
  • Pinsir: Pinsir is one of the best ways to deal with Shell Smash Crustle. Pinsir cannot safely switch into Crustle, but both the Choice Scarf and Z-Me First Pinsir sets can effectively revenge kill it, although this only works with Entry Hazard support thanks to Sturdy. In addition, Choice Scarf Pinsir will only OHKO White Herb Crustle about 50% of the time after Stealth Rocks, making the scarf set a risky answer at best. Pinsir does not deserve its own section considering the fact that it can lose to +2 Crustle if it's not Scarf (which is mediocre compared to SD and Z-Me First) and that it does not consistently beat Crustle w/o rocks.
  • Taunt: Taunt users such as Floatzel can shut down both Crustle sets in their attempts to get up hazards or set up Shell Smash. I don't really think Taunt is relevant enough to warrant its own section simply because Taunt is not really common in the metagame. Can mention Taunt Floatzel in **Water-types**
  • Priority Users: Priority Attackers, namely Sucker Punch Shiftry or Aqua Jet Swanna, can clean up a weakened Crustle by abusing it's dropped defenses after a Shell Smash. I get what you mean and it's really true because of White Herb, so you should adjust the point to something like they can revenge kill a weakened Crustle, especially if it's knocked down to Sturdy.
  • Faster Choice Scarfers: Many of the tiers Choice Scarf users can outrun Crustle even at +2. However, many of them will fail to pick up a kill if Crustle has not taken prior chip damage. Need examples.
  • Pyukumuku: Even though it is a Water type, Pyukumuku gets a special mentioning as it can completely hard counter the Shell Smash Crustle set with it's amazing bulk and ability in Unaware.
  • Fast Special Attackers: Fast special attackers such as Kadabra as well as certain specially based scarfers such as Swanna, Floatzel, and Mr. Mime can come in on Crustle, sometimes even after a shell smash, and proceed to obliterate it by it's putrid special defense stat They never come in on Crustle outside of a teammate getting knocked out or off a slow pivot.
Mention residual damage because Crustle is SR weak and can check physical attackers to set up which makes it easy to wear down. Also mention physical walls because Gourg-XL, Golem, and Machoke can all check Crustle. Can also give **entry hazard removers** their own section.

You need to adjust the formatting here to **Insert Threat Here** rather than bullet points. Order should be Water-types/special attackers/physical walls/revenge killers (combine Scarfers and priority users)/entry hazard removers/pyukumuku.

[OVERVIEW]

  • Crustle's unique access to Shell Smash, Stealth Rock and Spikes along with it's good attacking stats and Sturdy allow Crustle to function as both a threatening sweeper and a suicide lead. use the word "or" since Crustle cannot viably perform both roles at the same time.
  • Shell Smash turns Crustle into a potent sweeper, boosting its already decent Attack to very high levels and allowing it to outspeed most of the non-scarfed meta game. In addition, Crustle's naturally high Defense means that finding a place to set up isn't super difficult, as it can set up against tier staples such as Komala and Muk
  • Crustle's access to the coveted combination of both Spikes and Stealth Rock, along with Sturdy allow Crustle to often get up multiple layers of entry hazards.
  • STAB Stone Edge along with options such as Earthquake, Knock Off, and X-Scissor allow Crustle to hit the entire tier for at least neutral damage. Why are we going back and forth between positives for the Shell Smash and Entry Hazards sets? It breaks up the flow of the Overview.
  • Crustle's physical bulk may be impressive, but it is relatively easy to wear down thanks to a vulnerability to all forms of entry hazards and its lackluster defensive typing. This can leave it vulnerable to powerful attacks from the likes of Swanna, Golem and Pawniard. As such, Crustle can struggle to set up if these threats are present. You're gonna need some sort of transition before diving straight into the negatives when you actually turn these into paragraphs.
  • Crustle's entry hazard set fails to significantly threaten common hazard removers such as Silvally-Water, Silvally-Fighting, and Sandslash, meaning that they can switch in and remove the hazards with ease.
  • Crustle's poor speed is an issue, as it is quite slow unboosted and is outpaced by many of the tier's most common scarfers, such as Electivire, Rapidash and Mr. Mime, even at +2. However, Crustle can usually survive a hit from these scarfers if it has not taken prior chip damage Now we are going back and forth between negatives between the two sets, again making the Overview seem disjointed.
  • Finally, all variants of Crustle are vulnerable to Taunt users such as Floatzel and Monferno, as they can prevent it from setting up entry hazards or using Shell Smash. Remove this last sentence or find better examples of Taunt users. Crustle never stays in on Floatzel, and even if it did, Floatzel is clicking a STAB move, not Taunt. Monferno also never runs Taunt, they run Slack Off U-turn and 2/3 of Stealth Rock/Close Combat/Flare Blitz.

Moves
=========
  • The combination of Stone Edge and Earthquake allows Crustle to hit almost every notable Pokemon in the tier for at least neutral damage, with the one very notable exception being Bronzor.
  • The last move allows Crustle to hit Bronzor hard. Knock Off gives Crustle a way to 2HKO all variants of Bronzor, as well as giving Crustle a way to rid the many Eviolite users in the tier of their needed item. Targets include Mareanie, Metang and Dusclops.
  • X-Scissor is another option that allows Crustle to still hit Bronzor reasonably hard while being allowing it to hit Grass types such as Shiftry and Simisage for Super Effective damage. Why does this matter when Stone Edge picks up the KO on these two examples anyways? Mention bulkier Grasses like Leafeon and Quiladin instead. However, this option loses out on the ability to guarantee a 2HKO onto physically defensive Bronzor the overwhelming majority of Bronzor sets are specially defensive so why mention this? as well as failing to OHKO specially defensive variants, which is arguably more important.
Set Details
=========
  • White Herb allows Crustle to keep it's high defense stat intact after using Shell Smash, which notably allows it to comfortably take a hit from scarfers such as Electivire and Rapidash before OHKOing them in return. Mention that in certain situations this may provide Crustle the opportunity to click Shell Smash a second time, allowing to outspeed the entire metagame (including Choice Scarf users)
  • Rockium Z gives Crustle a one time nuke that circumvents Stone Edge's meager accuracy and OHKO's Gourgeist-XL after rocks, a mon that otherwise gives Crustle some issues. However, such a set must be played with more caution, as Crustle immediately becomes much more vulnerable to both scarfers and priority due to the defense drops after setting up with Shell Smash.
  • Sturdy is the preferred ability here, as it guarantees that Crustle will be able to set up Shell Smash as long as entry hazards are kept off the field. Using Weak Armor is an option, but the prevalence of priority users such as Shiftry make this a risky proposition at best. You don't mention why Weak Armor is good at all. (+4 Speed again outspeeds the entire metagame including Choice Scarf users). Also mention that since Crustle is slow, the Defense drop from Weak Armor may activate Crustle's White Herb prematurely, meaning it has -1 Defense and Special Defense after it subsequently uses Shell Smash.
Usage Tips
=========
  • Shell Smash Crustle is best saved for the mid to late game, where it will have an easier time of sweeping through teams. It is a good idea to remove at least some of it's offensive and defensive checks before sending Crustle out. Defensive checks to watch out for include Gourgeist-XL and Pyukumuku, while offensive checks include potential scarfers like Electivire and Mr. Mime as well as priority users such as Shiftry.
  • Crustle can operate as an excellent breaker if it is unable to sweep, with defensive mons including Mawile and Bronzor being prime targets. This can help your cleaner sweep late game.
Prime points of entry include Banded Komala, Kecleon and Muk. You specifically mentioned Komala and Muk in the Overview. I appreciate you included Kecleon, but would you mind to at least swap out either Komala or Muk for something else please?
  • Attempting to set up on some of the more passive Pokemon in the tier is an option as well, but Crustle must be extremely careful of status, which most of the passive Pokemon in the tier can spread. As such, setting up against Pokemon such as Gourgeist-XL and Mareanie should be avoided, as they both threaten to burn Crustle. Mareanie should not stay in to fish for a burn versus Crustle, it can't afford for Crustle to get a free Shell Smash off and then to KO Mareanie with Earthquake.
Team Options
=========

  • Entry Hazard removal is much appreciated, as Crustle is weak to Stealth Rock and will take hefty damage if it switches in with rocks on the field.
  • Crustle greatly appreciates hazards on the opponents side of the field as it lets it more easily punch through the opponents team. Teammates that can lay down entry hazards such as Golem, Mawile and Bronzor can be quite helpful. Stealth Rock, Stealth Rock, and Stealth Rock. Any variety of entry hazards and users? Also, when are you ever running Golem and Crustle on the same team?
  • Crustle is vulnerable to special attackers, so having a way of dealing with them is imperative. Scarf Electivire takes out threats such as Swanna, Kadabra and Mr. Mime, which can potentially threaten Crustle. Another nice option is Komala, who can tank many special hits thanks to its naturally decent bulk before threatening them with its powerful attacks.
  • Ways of crippling or removing scarfers and priority users are very helpful for Crustle. Revenge killing the opponents scarfers and priority users is a good option, with potential options being one's own scarfer such as Electivire or Pinsir. Another option is checking them defensively; Sandslash, for example, can tank anything Electivire or Rapidash throws at it before OHKOing them with Earthquake. Burn support is a good option, as many of the tiers scarfers and priority users are physical. Things such as Gourgeist-XL and Rapidash can work here. Why is spreading burns good for Crustle? Like it helps it sure, but the rest of the article praises Crustle for its ability to check XYZ physical attackers and use them as an opportunity to set up with Shell Smash
Abomasnow isn't ZU anymore.

Moves
==========
  • Crustle's access to Spikes is largely the only reason to use it over lead Golem, and should absolutely be used on every lead Crustle. Does the utility of Knock Off not count for anything I suppose?
  • Knock Off allows Crustle to potentially annoy other leads that appreciate having their item, such as the aforementioned Golem, as well as giving it a good way to fight against eviolite and leftovers reliant mons, such as Bronzor, Mareanie, and Lickilicky.
  • The last move slot is largely filler. Stone Edge is a nice, powerful STAB move that can dissuade some of the tiers most notable defoggers such as Rotom-Fan or Swanna from switching into Crustle, while Rock Blast allows Crustle to greatly threaten being able to greatly threaten Focus Sash reliant mons like Masquerain or Leavanny, while also neutering enemy lead Crustle.
Set Details
==========
  • Max Speed with a Jolly Nature allows Crustle to at worst speed tie with the ever present lead Golem. Adamant can also be used if more power is desired, but the loss of speed can be significant. If Adamant doesn't do anything specific for Crustle besides make its matchup versus opposing Crustle and Golem worse, take it off the set. If it does something specific like an important calc, mention that here.
  • Using Custap Berry with Sturdy allows Crustle to ensure it can keep at least Stealth Rocks on the field before being KO'd, which is very helpful as it allows it to sack itself off while keeping it's main goal of setting hazards consistent. Do you mean get an extra layer of entry hazards on the field? Idk what this bullet point is necessarily saying.
  • An alternative to the above set is running Focus Sash along with the ability Weak Armor. This ensures that Crustle will be able to tank a hit at least once, while also gaining a large speed boost if said hit is physical. This also has the added benefit of lowering Crustle's defense, which is ironically useful in this case as Crustle's goal is to die and get out of the way for the next teammate. Ideally this allows Crustle to at least get up Stealth Rock and one layer of Spikes, however this is an alternative to the main set, due to it's inconsistency at keeping it's hazards up against hazard removers such Silvally-Fighting and Silvally-Water.
Usage Tips
==========
  • Crustle should almost always be the lead, unless the opponent has a very obvious Taunt user such as Floatzel or Monferno that threatens Crustle's ability to get up hazards. Floatzel always clicks STAB; Monferno doesn't run Taunt. Find better examples of Taunt users. It can still be worth it to send Crustle in on certain physically based Taunt users, as the combination of Knock Off and either Stone Edge or Rock Blast is nothing to sneeze at offensively. Knocking Off Misdreavus's Eviolite
  • Crustle should be weary of leading against hazard removers such as Silvally-Fighting, Sandslash, Avalugg, or Silvally-Water due to it being very well walled while the enemy is able to cleanly keep its hazards off the field. Mention potentially saving Crustle for later and scouting if the opponent's Silvally forme has a good or rough matchup versus Crustle.
  • Stealth Rock should generally be used first, as it is the more overall useful entry hazard. The next step should be to set up as many layers of Spikes as possible. Mention when Spikes are more useful than Stealth Rock
  • Using Knock Off on opposing leads is oftentimes a good option. Lead Golem, for example, greatly relies on its Weakness Policy or its Custap Berry to effectively do its job, so losing it can be problematic. This also has the added benefit of breaking Sturdy.
  • Lead Crustle should only be switched out against hazard removers that is has no way of dealing with, such as Silvally-Water or Sandslash. Outside of those situations it is usually better to let Crustle die and let a more overall useful Pokemon take the reigns.
  • Custap Berry allows Crustle to set a hazard while sacking itself off, which is great for keeping momentum and letting offensive teammates such as Purugly or Pawniard take center stage.
Team Options
==========
  • Lead Crustle works best on Hyper Offense teams that appreciate multiple layers of entry hazards.
  • Finding a way to beat Defoggers and Spinners that threaten to remove all of Crustle's hard work is generally a very good idea. Defiant users such as Pawniard or the less common Purugly Purugly did fantastically in OMPL, I honestly think they are on par with one another can force Defoggers into a very uncomfortable situation, with Contrary Servine being another option. Spinblocking can be difficult on hyper offense due to a lack of good offensive Ghost types, with the very rare smaller Gourgeist form being the only real option. Silvally-Ghost although this analysis probably hasn't been checked since its reintroduction to the tier. Bad on us for not checking analyses sooner. In this case, it is generally better to have a plan to threaten the most common spinners, such as Fighting type coverage for Komala and Avalugg and Water/Grass type coverage for Sandslash. Silvally-Fighting beats Avalugg with Toxic, Combusken much rather clicks the more accurate Fire Blast over Focus Blast, Monferno loses to Avalugg 1v1 because it usually bulkier with Stealth Rock, tl;dr change the Avalugg example.
This is a very awkward Team Option seeing how little use screens teams get. Also wouldn't Screens appreciate Shell Smash Crustle just as much if not more so? Very very awkward Team Option that goes deep into left field.
  • Offensive threats such as Pinsir and Z-Rain Dance Swanna appreciate the offensive pressure that hazards give, as it makes it harder to switch into them.
[STRATEGY COMMENTS]

Other Options

==============

  • Rock Tomb can be used on the lead set in order to slow down the opposing lead and potentially make it very easy for the next Pokemon in line to do its job. However, this is generally inferior to the options provided.
  • Crustle can use Shell Smash and Stealth Rock on the same set if role compression is needed. This particular set has the added benefit of working as both a lead and a sweeper, and using Stealth Rock to bluff a hazard set before boosting with Shell Smash can put the opponent into an extremely uncomfortable situation. This set also has the added benefit of greatly threatening some of the tiers most common Defoggers, such as Swanna and Altaria. However, this set lacks Spikes, making it a somewhat inferior lead to Golem, and as a sweeper it will lack the coverage needed to sweep many teams.
  • Using Rock Wrecker with Rockium Z is an option to give Crustle a monstrously powerful Continental Crush and allow it to land a guaranteed OHKO onto Gourgeist-XL without Stealth Rock, something the other sets are incapable of doing. However, Rock Wrecker’s downsides outside of the Z Move make Stone Edge a generally better options.
Sub Shell Smash is useful imo against Gourgeist-XL who's gonna click Leech Seed or Wisp, Bronzor which is gonna click Toxic, 100% wall Pyukumuku etc etc while Sub, if left intact, allows Crustle to pretty much Shell Smash freely.
Checks and Counters

==================

**Water Types** Many Water types in the tier have a surplus of ways to deal with Crustle, abusing it's pathetic special bulk to quickly KO it with moves such as Silvally-Water's Surf, Swanna's Scald, or Floatzel's Hydro Pump. Silvally-Water and Swanna can also proceed to Defog away any hazards that Crustle puts down, while Floatzel can prevent Crustle from doing its job with Taunt. When on earth is Floatzel clicking Taunt versus Crustle? It clicks Liquidation into Aqua Jet. However, they must be thoughtful of Sturdy, since if Crustle is at full health, they will not be able to OHKO it. In addition, none of them can safely switch into a set up Shell Smash variant.

**Fast Special Attackers** Fast special attackers such as Kadabra as well as certain specially based scarfers such as Swanna, Floatzel, and Mr. Mime can come in on Crustle, sometimes even after a Shell Smash, and proceed to obliterate it by it's putrid special defense stat. None of them can safely switch in on Crustle, however.

**Physical Walls** Many of the tiers physical walls can halt Crustle in its tracks even after a Shell Smash. Physically Defensive Machoke does an admirable job of walling Crustle, although it dislikes having its Eviolite Knocked Off. Gourgeist-XL can burn Crustle and threaten it with Foul Play, but it must watch out for Continental Crush. Physically Defensive Golem can tank anything that Crustle throws at it before heavily damaging it with Stone Edge or badly poisoning it. Neither Gourgeist nor Golem can confidently switch in, however.

**Revenge Killers** Choice Scarfers such as Electivire, Pinsir and Mr. Mime as well as Priority users such as Aqua Jet Swanna or Sucker Punch Shiftry can come in and threaten a set up Crustle. None of them will KO without prior chip damage, however. Already mentioned Scarf Mime, replace with a different Choice Scarf user like Rapidash.

**Entry Hazard Removers** Defoggers such as Swanna, Altaria and Silvally Water as well as Rapid Spinners such as Komala and Sandslash threaten to remove lead Crustle's hard work, with Silvally and Sandslash even being able to switch into lead Crustle and dispose of its hazards right in its face. Komala and Altaria are not good examples here, Crustle just Knocks Komala off and Altaria gets smacked with STAB Stone Edge or Rock Blast.

**Pyukumuku** Even though it is a Water type, Pyukumuku gets a special mentioning as it can completely hard counter the Shell Smash Crustle set with it's amazing bulk and ability in Unaware. It must be somewhat wary of switching into the Rockium set, as Continental Crush followed up by a normal Stone Edge will finish it off if hazards are up, but outside of that Pyukumuku completely stonewalls Crustle.

[OVERVIEW]

Crustle's unique access to Stealth Rock, Spikes, and Shell Smash along with it's good attacking stats and two useful abilities allow it to function as both a Shell Smash Sweeper or a Suicide Lead. Shell Smash turns Crustle into a potent sweeper, as it can boost its already decent attack to very high levels while also allowing it to outspeed most of the non-scarfed metagame. In addition, Crustle’s naturally high defense allows it to set up on tier staples such as Komala and Muk You can add Bouffalant here as well. STAB Stone Edge and X-Scissor along with options such as Earthquake and Knock Off allow Crustle to hit the entire tier for at least neutral damage. Crustle also has access to the coveted combination of Spikes and Stealth Rock. This, along with its two best abilities in Sturdy and Weak Armor, allow lead Crustle to often get up multiple layers of entry hazards. Unfortunately Crustle has a few issues that can hold it back. It’s impressive physical bulk is somewhat offset by a vulnerability to all entry hazards, as well as a poor defensive typing and Special Defense. As such, Crustle is not as bulky in practice as it may seem, and it struggles to set up if offensive threats such as Golem, Swanna, and Pawniard are present. Crustle also struggles with a mediocre speed stat, as it is quite slow unboosted and will still be outrun by the tier’s most common scarfers, such as Electivire, Rapidash, and Mr. Mime even at +2 mention Scarf Swanna here too, although it can usually tank at least one hit from them if it is healthy exclude Swan from this point too. The entry hazard set also fails to threaten several of the tiers most common entry hazard removers, and Pokemon such as Silvally-Water and Sandslash can come in without much trouble and remove the hazards.

Moves

The combination of Stone Edge and Earthquake allows Crustle to hit almost every notable Pokemon in the tier for at least neutral damage, with the one very notable exception being Bronzor. The last move allows Crustle to hit Bronzor hard. Knock Off gives Crustle a way to 2HKO all variants of Bronzor, as well as giving Crustle a way to rid the many Eviolite users in the tier of their needed item, with targets including Mareanie, Metang and Dusclops. X-Scissor is another option that allows Crustle to still hit Bronzor reasonably hard while being allowing it to hit bulkier Grass types such as Quilladin and Leafeon for super effective damage. However, this option loses out on the ability to OHKO specially defensive variants of Bronzor.

Set Details
=========

White Herb allows Crustle to keep it's high defense stat intact after using Shell Smash, which notably allows it to comfortably take a hit from scarfers such as Electivire and Rapidash before OHKOing them in return. Also mention it having a better chance at sweeping against prio users such as Shiftry and Purugly. This also can potentially give Crustle an opportunity to set up Shell Smash again, jacking up both its power and speed to breathtaking levels. Another option is Rockium Z, which gives Crustle a one time nuke that circumvents Stone Edge's meager accuracy and OHKO's Gourgeist-XL after rocks, a mon that otherwise gives Crustle issues. However, such a set must be played with more caution, as Crustle immediately becomes much more vulnerable to both scarfers and priority. Sturdy is the preferred ability here, as it guarantees that Crustle will be able to set up Shell Smash as long as entry hazards are kept off the field. Using Weak Armor is an option that can potentially make Crustle extremely fast at the cost of some bulk, but the prevalence of priority users such as Shiftry as well as the fact that the White Herb could potentially be used up before Crustle actually uses Shell Smash make this a risky proposition at best

Usage Tips
=========

Shell Smash Crustle is best saved for the mid to late game, where it will have an easier time of sweeping through teams. It is a good idea to remove at least some of it's offensive and defensive checks before sending Crustle out. Defensive checks to watch out for include Gourgeist-XL and Pyukumuku, while offensive checks include potential scarfers like Electivire and Mr. Mime as well as priority users such as Shiftry and Swanna. Crustle can also operate as an excellent breaker if it is unable to sweep, with defensive mons including Mawile and Bronzor being prime targets. This can help your cleaner sweep late game. Avoid switching Crustle in directly, as it cannot afford to take much damage if it is aiming to be out of range of the common scarfers and priority users. Bringing it in off of a slow U-turn / Volt Switch or after one of your Pokemon has fainted is generally a better option. Removing entry hazards before Crustle comes in is an excellent idea, as Crustle is weak to Stealth Rock and will take damage from Spikes and Toxic Spikes as well. Crustle cannot afford to take much damage before it gets in range of some of the tiers scarfers and priority users. Be sure to keep in mind that Crustle is quite slow before it sets up, meaning that the opponent will likely have time to strike first if given the opportunity. This is kind of a redundant statement based off what you stated in previous sentences, I would remove it. Crustle should ideally attempt to set up on physical attackers that don't immediately threaten it, or things that it can force out thanks to it's decent base attack being threatening to a good amount of the tier. Prime points of entry include Banded Komala, Kecleon and Purugly. Attempting to set up on some of the more passive Pokemon in the tier is an option as well, but Crustle must be extremely careful of status, which most of the passive Pokemon in the tier can spread. As such, setting up against Pokemon such as Gourgeist-XL and Dusclops should be avoided, as they threaten to burn Crustle Also mention Mareanie here as well. Bulky Waters are a big problem for Crustle, as most of them will OHKO him if they aren't killed the first turn you see them, or at least brought into KO range. Specific mentioning to Pyukumuku, who cares none for what crustle does and will wall it out. Such mons should absolutely be removed before Crustle attempts to sweep.

Team Options
=========

Entry Hazard removal is much appreciated, as Crustle is weak to Stealth Rock and will take hefty damage if it switches in with rocks on the field. This is especially imperative with the Rockium set, as Crustle will be in range of an OHKO from scarfers such as Pinsir and Rapidash at -1 defense after a Stealth Rock. Also mention that they help it keep it's Sturdy in tack which is important as well. As such, Defog or Rapid Spin support from things such as Swanna, Altaria, Komala, and Sandslash is very helpful. Crustle greatly appreciates hazards on the opponents side of the field as it lets it more easily punch through the opponents team. Teammates that can lay down entry hazards such as Quilladin, Mawile and Bronzor can be quite helpful. Crustle is vulnerable to special attackers, so having a way of dealing with them is imperative. Scarf Electivire takes out threats such as Swanna, Kadabra and Mr. Mime, which can potentially threaten Crustle. Another nice option is Komala, who can tank many special hits thanks to its naturally decent bulk before threatening them with its powerful attacks. Specify Assault Vest Komala here. Ways of crippling or removing scarfers and priority users are very helpful for Crustle. In addition to the aforementioned bulky water types, Crustle will struggle to break certain physical walls, such as Colbur Berry Gourgeist-XL and physically defensive Golem. As such, wallbreaker is appreciated. Exeggutor, Shiftry, Servine, and Beheeyem are potential options here.

Crustle's access to Spikes and Knock Off are largely the only reasons to use it over lead Golem. As such, they should absolutely be used on every lead Crustle. Spikes and Stealth Rock combine for a choking entry hazard stack that can wear down opposing teams very quickly, while Knock Off allows Crustle to potentially annoy other leads that appreciate having their item, such as the aforementioned Golem, as well as giving it a good way to fight against Eviolite and Leftovers reliant mons, such as Bronzor, Mareanie, and Lickilicky. Set Details
==========

Max Speed with a Jolly Nature allows Crustle to at worst speed tie with the ever present lead Golem as well as opposing lead Crustle, while max attack allows Crustle to hit as hard as possible. Using Custap Berry with Sturdy allows Crustle to ensure it can almost always get at least Stealth Rock up while using the Custap boost to get at least one layer of Spikes up before fainting. An alternative to the above set is running Focus Sash along with the ability Weak Armor. This ensures that Crustle will be able to tank a hit at least once, while also gaining a large speed boost if said hit is physical. This also has the added benefit of lowering Crustle's defense, which is ironically useful in this case as Crustle's goal is to die and get out of the way for the next teammate. Although mention that Custap + Sturdy sets are generally more consistent due to them not needing to rely on getting hit physically though. Ideally this allows Crustle to at least get up Stealth Rock and one layer of Spikes, however this is an alternative to the main set, due to it's inconsistency at keeping it's hazards up against hazard removers such Silvally-Fighting and Silvally-Water. I mean both sets still struggle against those two Silvally Formes since they can always Defog hazards away before Crustle can retaliate in actuality. Would remove this point.

Usage Tips
==========

Crustle should almost always be the lead, unless the opponent has a very obvious Taunt user such as Misdreavus that threatens Crustle's ability to get up hazards. It can still be worth it to send Crustle in on certain physically based Taunt users, as the combination of Knock Off and either Stone Edge or Rock Blast is nothing to sneeze at offensively. I would also be wary in leading it against defensive Golem, since Rock Blast can really prevent Crustle from setting up multiple hazards, especially for Weak Armour variants. Crustle should be wary of leading against hazard removers such as Silvally-Fighting, Sandslash, Avalugg, or Silvally-Water due to it being very well walled while the enemy is able to cleanly keep its hazards off the field. Crustle can potentially be saved for later if these threats are present so that it can put its hazards up once these Pokemon have been effectively dealt with. Stealth Rock should generally be used first, as it is the more overall useful entry hazard. The next step should be to set up as many layers of Spikes as possible in order to threaten chip on Stealth Rock resistant Pokemon such as Sandslash, Mawile, and Machoke. Using Knock Off on opposing leads is oftentimes a good option. Lead Golem, for example, greatly relies on its Weakness Policy or its Custap Berry to effectively do its job, so losing it can be problematic. This also has the added benefit of breaking Sturdy. This Crustle should only be switched out against hazard removers that is has no way of dealing with, such as Silvally-Water or Sandslash. Outside of those situations it is usually better to let Crustle die and let a more overall useful Pokemon take the reigns. Custap Berry allows Crustle to set a hazard while sacking itself off, which is great for keeping momentum and letting offensive teammates such as Purugly or Pawniard take center stage.

Team Options
==========

Lead Crustle works best on Hyper Offense teams that appreciate multiple layers of entry hazards. Finding a way to beat Defoggers and Spinners that threaten to remove all of Crustle's hard work is generally a very good idea. Defiant users such as Pawniard or Purugly can force Defoggers into a very uncomfortable situation, with Contrary Servine being another option. Spinblocking using Silvally-Ghost is an option to give insurance against Rapid Spinners mention Taunt Misdreavus here as well, although finding another way to deal with common spinners in an option as well, such as Fighting type coverage for Komala and Water/Grass type coverage for Sandslash. Offensive threats such as Pinsir and Z-Rain Dance Swanna appreciate the offensive pressure that hazards give, as it makes it harder to switch into them. Expand on offensive partners, with mons such as Combusken, Shiftry, and Mixed Evire being prime examples of threats that appreciate hazard stacking.

[STRATEGY COMMENTS]
Other Options
==============

Rock Tomb can be used on the lead set in order to slow down the opposing lead and potentially make it very easy for the next Pokemon in line to do its job. However, this is generally inferior to the options provided. Crustle can use Shell Smash and Stealth Rock on the same set if role compression is needed. Substitute can also be used on Shell Smash Crustle that allows it to set up on certain threats it would otherwise be hesitant to, such as Gourgeist and Bronzor. However, the aforementioned coverage issues hold this option back a bit. Also mention it enabling it to circumvent Sucker Punch users. An optional EV Spread in 248 HP / 216 Def / 44 Spe and Leftovers or Iapapa Berry turns Crustle into a decently bulky defensive wall capable of setting hazards for the team. While this uses the same set as the suicide lead, the play style changes to wanting to keep Crustle alive, as it can come in multiple times per game to set hazards against teams, but often you only need to set hazards once for teams to function. Using Rock Wrecker with Rockium Z is an option to give Crustle a monstrously powerful Continental Crush and allow it to land a guaranteed OHKO onto Gourgeist-XL without Stealth Rock, something the other sets are incapable of doing. However, Rock Wrecker’s downsides outside of the Z Move make Stone Edge a generally better options.

Checks and Counters
==================

**Water Types** Many Water types in the tier have a surplus of ways to deal with Crustle, abusing it's pathetic special bulk to quickly KO it with moves such as Silvally-Water's Surf, Swanna's Scald, or Floatzel's Hydro Pump. Note that Floatzel and Swanna don't generally switch into Crustle well at all, not matter the set.

**Fast Special Attackers** Fast special attackers such as Kadabra and Exeggutor as well as certain specially based scarfers such as Swanna, Floatzel, and Mr.

**Revenge Killers** Choice Scarfers such as Electivire, Pinsir and Rapidash as well as Priority users such as Aqua Jet Swanna or Sucker Punch Shiftry can come in and threaten a set up Crustle. None of them will KO without prior chip damage, however.

**Entry Hazard Removers** Defoggers such as Swanna and Silvally Water as well as Rapid Spinners such as Avalugg and Sandslash threaten to remove lead Crustle's hard work, with Silvally and Sandslash even being able to switch into lead Crustle and dispose of its hazards right in its face.

[OVERVIEW]

Crustle's unique access to Stealth Rock, Spikes, and Shell Smash along with it's its good attacking stats Attack and two useful abilities allow it to function as both a Shell Smash sweeper or a suicide lead. Shell Smash turns Crustle into a potent sweeper, as it can boost its already decent Attack to very high levels while also allowing it to outspeed most of the non-scarfed non-Choice Scarf metagame. In addition, Crustle’s Crustle's (Use the ASCII apostrophe instead of the curly one, the curly ones mess up dex formatting when on-site) naturally high Defense allows it to set up on tier staples such as Komala, Bouffalant, and Muk. STAB Stone Edge and X-Scissor along with options such as Earthquake and Knock Off allow Crustle to hit the entire tier for at least neutral damage. Crustle also has access to the coveted combination of Spikes and Stealth Rock. This, along with its two best abilities in Sturdy and Weak Armor, allows lead Crustle to often get up multiple layers of entry hazards. Unfortunately, (AC) Crustle has a few issues that can hold it back. It’s Its impressive physical bulk is somewhat offset by a vulnerability to all entry hazards, as well as having a poor defensive typing and Special Defense. As such, Crustle is not as bulky in practice as it may seem, and it struggles to set up if offensive threats such as Golem, Swanna, and Pawniard are present. Crustle also struggles with a mediocre Speed stat, as it is quite slow unboosted and will still be outrun by the tier’s tier's most common scarfers Choice Scarf users, such as Electivire, Rapidash, Swanna, and Mr. Mime even at +2, although it can generally tank a hit if the scarfer they lacks super effective coverage. The entry hazard set also fails to threaten several of the tiers tier's most common entry hazard removers, and Pokemon such as Silvally-Water and Sandslash can come in without much trouble and remove the entry hazards.

Moves
=========

The combination of Stone Edge and Earthquake allows Crustle to hit almost every Pokemon in the tier for at least neutral damage, with one very notable exception being Bronzor. The last move allows Crustle to hit Bronzor hard. Knock Off gives Crustle a way to 2HKO all variants of Bronzor, as well as giving Crustle a way to rid the many Eviolite users in the tier of their needed item, with targets including Mareanie, Metang, (AC) and Dusclops. X-Scissor is another option that allows Crustle to still hit Bronzor reasonably hard while being allowing it to hit bulkier Grass-(AH)types such as Quilladin and Leafeon for super effective damage. However, this option loses out on the ability to OHKO specially defensive variants of Bronzor.

Set Details
=========

White Herb allows Crustle to keep it's its high Defense stat intact after using Shell Smash, which notably allows it to comfortably take a hit from scarfers Choice Scarf users such as Electivire and Rapidash as well as common priority users such as Shiftry and Purugly before OHKOing them in return. This also can potentially give Crustle an opportunity to set up Shell Smash again, jacking up both its power and speed to breathtaking levels. Another option is Rockium Z, which gives Crustle a one time nuke that circumvents Stone Edge's meager accuracy and OHKO's OHKOes Gourgeist-XL after rocks Stealth Rock damage, a Pokemon that otherwise gives Crustle issues. However, such a set must be played with more caution, as Crustle immediately becomes much more vulnerable to both scarfers Choice Scarf and priority users. Sturdy is the preferred ability here, as it guarantees that Crustle will be able to set up Shell Smash as long as entry hazards are kept off the field. Using Weak Armor is an option that can potentially make Crustle extremely fast at the cost of some bulk, but the prevalence of priority users such as Shiftry as well as the fact that the White Herb could potentially be used up before Crustle actually uses Shell Smash make this a risky proposition at best. (AP)

Usage Tips
=========

Shell Smash Crustle is best saved for the mid-(AH) to or late-(AH)game, where it will have an easier time of sweeping through teams. It is a good idea to remove at least some of it's its offensive and defensive checks before sending Crustle out. Defensive checks to watch out for include Gourgeist-XL and Pyukumuku, while offensive checks include potential scarfers Choice Scarf users like Electivire and Mr. Mime as well as priority users such as Shiftry and Swanna. Crustle can also operate as an excellent wallbreaker if it is unable to sweep, with defensive mons Pokemon including Mawile and Bronzor being prime targets. This can help your cleaner sweep late game. Avoid switching Crustle in directly, as it cannot afford to take much damage if it is aiming to be out of range of the common scarfers Choice Scarf threats and priority users. Bringing it in off of Pivoting Crustle in through a slow U-turn/Volt U-turn or Volt Switch or after one of your Pokemon has fainted is generally a better option. Removing entry hazards before Crustle comes in is an excellent idea, as Crustle it is weak to Stealth Rock and will take damage from Spikes and Toxic Spikes as well. Crustle cannot afford to take much damage before it gets in range of some of the tiers scarfers tier's Choice Scarf and priority users. Crustle should ideally attempt to set up on physical attackers that don't immediately threaten it, or things that it can force out thanks to it's its decent base Attack being threatening to a good amount of the tier. Prime points of entry include Banded Choice Band Komala, Kecleon, (AC) and Purugly. Bulky Waters Water-types are a big problem for Crustle, as most of them will OHKO him it (Use genderless pronouns) if they aren't killed eliminated (Kill is a banned phrase, except in revenge kill) or brought into KO range the first turn you see them, or at least brought into KO range. Specific mentioning to Pyukumuku, who cares none for which isn't bothered by what Crustle does and will wall it out. Such mons Pokemon should absolutely be removed before Crustle attempts to sweep.

Team Options
=========

Entry hazard removal is much appreciated, as Crustle is weak to Stealth Rock and will take hefty damage if it switches in with rocks them on the field. This is especially imperative with the Rockium set, as Crustle will be in range of an OHKO from scarfers Choice Scarf threats such as Pinsir and Rapidash at -1 Defense after a Stealth Rock damage. All entry hazards will also break Sturdy. As such, Defog or Rapid Spin support from things teammates such as Swanna, Altaria, Komala, and Sandslash is very helpful. Crustle greatly appreciates entry hazards on the opponents opposing side of the field, (AC) as it lets it more easily punch through the opponents opponent's team. Teammates that can lay down entry hazards such as Quilladin, Mawile, (AC) and Bronzor can be quite helpful. Crustle is vulnerable to special attackers, so having a way of dealing with them is imperative. Choice Scarf Electivire takes out threats such as Swanna, Kadabra, (AC) and Mr. Mime, which can potentially threaten Crustle. Another nice option is Assault Vest Komala, who which can tank many special hits thanks to its naturally decent bulk before threatening them with its powerful attacks. Ways of crippling or removing scarfers Choice Scarf and priority users are very helpful for Crustle, revenge killing them with your own Choice Scarf users such as Electivire and Pinsir being a good option. Revenge killing the opponents scarfers and priority users is a good option, with potential options being one's own scarfer such as Electivire or Pinsir. (Made the sentences into one for better flow) Another option is checking them defensively; Sandslash, for example, can tank anything Electivire or Rapidash throws at it before OHKOing them with Earthquake. In addition to the aforementioned bulky Water-(AH)types, Crustle will struggle to break certain physical walls, (RC) such as Colbur Berry Gourgeist-XL and physically defensive Golem. As such, having a wallbreaker as a teammate is appreciated. Exeggutor, Shiftry, Servine, and Beheeyem are potential options here.

Moves
==========

Crustle's access to Spikes and Knock Off are largely the only reasons to use it over lead Golem. As such, they should absolutely be used on every lead Crustle. Spikes and Stealth Rock combine for a choking entry hazard stack that can wear down opposing teams very quickly, while Knock Off allows Crustle to potentially annoy other leads that appreciate having their item, such as the aforementioned Golem, as well as giving it a good way to fight against Pokemon that rely on Eviolite and Leftovers reliant mons, such as Bronzor, Mareanie, and Lickilicky. The last move slot is largely filler. Stone Edge is a nice, powerful STAB move that can dissuade some of the tiers tier's most notable Defoggers such as Rotom-Fan or and Swanna from switching into Crustle, while Rock Blast allows Crustle to greatly threaten being able to greatly threaten Focus Sash-(AH)reliant mons Pokemon like Masquerain, Kadabra, or and Leavanny, while also neutering enemy lead Crustle.

Set Details
==========

Maximum Speed investment with a Jolly nature allows Crustle to at worst Speed tie with the ever-(AH)present lead Golem, (AC) as well as opposing lead Crustle, while maximum Attack investment allows Crustle to hit as hard as possible. Using Custap Berry with Sturdy allows Crustle to ensure it can almost always get at least Stealth Rock up while using the Custap boost from Custap Berry to get at least one layer of Spikes up before fainting. An alternative to the above set is running Focus Sash along with the ability Weak Armor. This ensures that Crustle will be able to tank a hit at least once, (RC) while also gaining a large Speed boost if said hit is physical. This also has the added benefit of lowering Crustle's Defense, which is ironically useful in this case, (AC) as Crustle's goal is to die act as a suicide lead and get out of the way for the next teammate. Ideally, (AC) this allows Crustle to at least get up Stealth Rock and one layer of Spikes, but it is inconsistent compared to the other set, (AC) as it relies on Crustle facing down a physical attacker.

Usage Tips
==========

Crustle should be wary of leading against entry hazard removers such as Silvally-Fighting, Sandslash, Avalugg, or and Silvally-Water due to it being very well walled while the enemy is able to cleanly keep its entry hazards off the field. It should also be somewhat careful of leading off against Golem and opposing Crustle, which oftentimes carry Rock Blast. Crustle can potentially be saved for later if these threats are present so that it can put its entry hazards up once these Pokemon have been effectively dealt with. Stealth Rock should generally be used first, as it is the more overall useful entry hazard. The next step should be to set up as many layers of Spikes as possible in order to threaten with chip damage on Stealth Rock-(AH)resistant Pokemon such as Sandslash, Mawile, and Machoke. Using Knock Off on opposing leads is oftentimes a good option. Lead Golem, for example, greatly relies on its Weakness Policy or its Custap Berry to effectively do its job, so losing it can be problematic. This also has the added benefit of breaking Sturdy. This Crustle set should only be switched out against entry hazard removers that is it has no way of dealing with, such as Silvally-Water or Sandslash. Outside of those situations, (AC) it is usually better to let Crustle die faint and let a more overall useful Pokemon take the reigns. Custap Berry allows Crustle to set up an entry hazard while sacking itself off, which is great for keeping momentum and letting offensive teammates such as Purugly or and Pawniard take center stage.

Team Options
==========

Spinblocking using Silvally-Ghost or Taunt Misdreavus is an option to give insurance against Rapid spinners, although finding another way to deal with common spinners in an option as well, such as Fighting-(AH)type coverage for Komala and Water/Grass Water- or Grass-type coverage for Sandslash. Many of the tiers tier's offensive threats appreciate the offensive pressure that entry hazards give, as it makes it harder to switch into them. Combusken, Shiftry, Pinsir, Z-Rain Dance Swanna, and mixed Electivire are all offensive powerhouses that appreciate entry hazard stacking, as it aids them in their efforts to break down and/or sweep the opposing team.

An optional EV Spread in 248 HP / 216 Def / 44 Spe and Leftovers or Iapapa Berry turns Crustle into a decently bulky defensive wall capable of setting entry hazards for the team. While this uses the same set as the suicide lead, the play style playstyle changes to wanting to keep Crustle alive, as it can come in multiple times per game to set entry hazards against teams, but often you only need to set entry hazards once for teams to function. However, Rock Wrecker’s Wrecker's downsides outside of the Z-(AH)Move make Stone Edge a generally the better options.

Crustle cannot afford to take much damage before it gets in range of some of the tier's Choice Scarf users and priority users. Crustle should ideally attempt to set up on physical attackers that don't immediately threaten it (RC) or things foes that it can force out thanks to its decent base Attack being threatening to that threatens a good amount of the tier. Prime points of entry include Choice Band Komala, Kecleon, and Purugly. (CB on all three or? if not reshuffle them a bit to avoid ambiguity) Attempting to set up on some of the more passive Pokemon in the tier is an option as well, but Crustle must be extremely careful of status, which most of the passive Pokemon in the tier can spread. A specific mentioning goes to Pyukumuku, which isn't bothered by what Crustle does and will wall it out. Such Pokemon should absolutely be removed before Crustle attempts to sweep.

Team Options
=========

Entry hazard removal is much appreciated, as Crustle is weak to Stealth Rock and will take hefty damage if it switches in with them it on the field. This is especially imperative with the Rockium Z set, as Crustle will be in range of an OHKO from Choice Scarf users such as Pinsir and Rapidash at -1 Defense after Stealth Rock damage and the Defense drop. All entry hazards will also break Sturdy. As such, Thus, Defog or Rapid Spin support from teammates such as Swanna, Altaria, Komala, and Sandslash is very helpful. Crustle greatly appreciates entry hazards from teammates such as Quilladin, Mawile, and Bronzor on the opposing side of the field, as it lets they let it more easily punch through the opponent's team. Teammates that can lay down entry hazards such as Quilladin, Mawile, and Bronzor can be quite helpful. Crustle is vulnerable to special attackers, so having a way of dealing with them is imperative. Choice Scarf Electivire takes out threats such as Swanna, Kadabra, and Mr. Mime, which can potentially threaten Crustle. Another nice option is while Assault Vest Komala, which can tank many special hits from special attackers thanks to its naturally decent bulk before threatening them with its powerful attacks.

Moves
==========

Crustle's access to Spikes and Knock Off are is largely the only reasons reason to use it over lead Golem. Stone Edge is a nice, powerful STAB move that can dissuade some of the tier's most notable Defoggers such as Rotom-S and Swanna from switching into Crustle, while Rock Blast allows Crustle to greatly threaten Focus Sash-reliant (AH) Pokemon like Masquerain, Kadabra, or and Leavanny (RC) while also neutering enemy lead Crustle.

Set Details
==========

Maximum Speed investment with a Jolly nature allows Crustle to at worst Speed tie with the ever-present lead Golem, as well as with opposing lead Crustle, while maximum Attack investment allows Crustle to hit as hard as possible. Using Custap Berry with Sturdy allows Crustle to ensure it can almost always get at least Stealth Rock up while using the boost from Custap Berry to get at least and one layer of Spikes up before fainting. An alternative to the above set is running Focus Sash along with the ability Weak Armor. This ensures that Crustle will be able to tank a hit at least once while also gaining a large Speed boost if said hit is physical. This also has the added benefit of lowering Crustle's Defense, which is ironically useful in this casem (AC) as Crustle's goal is to die and get out of the way for the next teammate. Ideally this allows Crustle to at least get up Stealth Rock and one layer of Spikes, but it is inconsistent compared to the other set, (AC) as it relies on Crustle facing down a physical attacker.

Usage Tips
==========

Crustle should be wary of leading against hazard removers such as Silvally-Fighting, Sandslash, Avalugg, or and Silvally-Water, (AC) due to it being very well walled while the enemy is which wall it and are able to cleanly keep its hazards off the field. It should also be somewhat careful of leading off against Golem and opposing Crustle, which oftentimes carry Rock Blast. Crustle can potentially be saved for later if these threats are present so that it can put its hazards up once these Pokemon they have been effectively dealt with. Stealth Rock should generally be used first, as it is the more overall useful entry hazard. The next step should be to set up as many layers of Spikes as possible in order to threaten chip damage on Stealth Rock-resistant (AH) Pokemon such as Sandslash, Mawile, and Machoke. Using Knock Off on opposing leads is oftentimes a good option. Lead Golem, for example, greatly relies on its Weakness Policy or its Custap Berry to effectively do its job, so losing it can be problematic. This also has the added benefit of breaking Sturdy. This Crustle should only be switched out against hazard removers that is has no way of dealing with, such as Silvally-Water or and Sandslash. Outside of those situations it is usually better to let Crustle die get KOed and let a more overall useful Pokemon take the reigns reins. Custap Berry allows Crustle to set a hazard while sacking itself off sacrificing itself, which is great for keeping momentum and letting offensive teammates such as Purugly or Pawniard take center stage.

Team Options
==========

Lead Crustle works best on hyper offense teams that appreciate multiple layers of entry hazards. Finding a way to beat Defoggers and spinners that threaten to remove all of Crustle's hard work is generally a very good idea. Defiant users such as Pawniard or and Purugly can force Defoggers into a very uncomfortable situation, with Contrary Servine being another option. Spinblocking using Silvally-Ghost or Taunt Misdreavus is an option to give insurance against spinners, although finding another way to deal with common spinners in is an option as well, such as Fighting-type (AH) coverage for taking on Komala and Water- or Grass-type (AH) coverage for Sandslash. Many of the tiers tier's offensive threats appreciate the offensive pressure that hazards give, as it makes it harder to switch into them. Combusken, Shiftry, Pinsir, Z-Rain Dance Swanna, and mixed Electivire are all offensive powerhouses that appreciate hazard stacking, as it aids them in their efforts to break down and/or sweep the opposing team.

Other Options
==============

This set also has the added benefit of greatly threatening some of the tiers tier's most common Defoggers, such as Swanna and Altaria. However, this set lacks Spikes, making it a somewhat inferior lead to Golem, and as a sweeper it will lack the coverage needed to sweep many teams. Substitute can also be used on Shell Smash Crustle that allows it to set up on certain threats it would otherwise be hesitant to take on, such as Gourgeist and Bronzor, as well as giving it insurance against Sucker Punch users such as Shiftry. However, the aforementioned coverage issues hold this option back a bit. An optional EV spread in of 248 HP / 216 Def / 44 Spe and with Leftovers or Iapapa Berry turns Crustle into a decently bulky defensive wall capable of setting hazards for the team. While this uses the same set as the suicide lead, the play style gameplan changes to wanting to keep Crustle alive, as it can come in multiple times per game to set hazards against teams; (SC) but however, often you only need to set hazards once for teams to function. Using Rock Wrecker with Rockium Z is an option to give Crustle a monstrously powerful Continental Crush and allow it to land a guaranteed OHKO onto Gourgeist-XL without Stealth Rock, something the other sets are incapable of doing. However, Rock Wrecker’s downsides outside of the Z-Move (AH) make Stone Edge a generally better options option.

Checks and Counters
==================

**Water-types**: (AH, add colon) Many Water-types (AH) in the tier have a surplus of ways to deal with Crustle, abusing it's exploiting its pathetic special bulk to quickly KO it with moves such as Silvally-Water's Surf, Swanna's Scald, or and Floatzel's Hydro Pump. Silvally-Water and Swanna can also proceed to Defog away any hazards that Crustle puts down. However, they must be thoughtful mindful of Sturdy, since if Crustle is at full health, they will not be able to OHKO it. In addition, none of them can safely switch into a set up Shell Smash variant, and Swanna and Floatzel have to be cautious of switching in even if Crustle hasn't set up.

**Fast Special Attackers**: Special attackers that are faster than Crustle such as Kadabra and Exeggutor as well as certain specially based scarfers Choice Scarf users such as Swanna, Floatzel, and Mr. Mime can come in on Crustle, sometimes even after a Shell Smash, and proceed to obliterate it by it's due to its putrid Special Defense stat. None of them can safely switch in on Crustle, however.

**Physical Walls**: Many of the tiers tier's physical walls can halt stop Crustle in its tracks even after a Shell Smash. Physically defensive Machoke does an admirable job of walling Crustle, although it dislikes having losing its Eviolite Knocked Off.

**Revenge Killers**: Choice Scarf users such as Electivire, Pinsir, (AC) and Rapidash as well as priority users such as Aqua Jet Swanna or and Sucker Punch Shiftry can come in on and threaten a set-up (AH) Crustle. Most of them will not KO without prior chip damage, however.

**Entry Hazard Removers**: Defoggers such as Swanna and Silvally-Water (AH) as well as Rapid spinners such as Avalugg and Sandslash threaten to remove lead Crustle's hard work, with Silvally-Water and Sandslash even being able to switch into lead Crustle and dispose of its hazards right in its face.

**Pyukumuku**: Even though it is a Water-type, (AH) Pyukumuku gets a special mentioning mention, as it can completely hard counter the Shell Smash Crustle set with it's its amazing bulk and ability in Unaware. It must be somewhat wary of switching into the Rockium Z set, as Continental Crush followed up by a normal Stone Edge will finish it off if entry hazards are up, but outside of that, (AC) Pyukumuku completely stonewalls Crustle.
