With all the CM Arceus mania going on, i came across the idea of CM Darkrai and saw it didnt have an analysis

  • Why this set deserves to be on site:
  • Unlike Nasty Plot Darkrai, CM Rai can boost special defense with Calm Mind while boosting its special attack to turn into a Bulky Sweeper
  • Not outclassed by CM Dark Arceus due to Dark Void, higher speed (allowing it to outspeed Lati@s, Lugia, Garchomp as well as less common threats like Infernape and Gengar. Also speed tie vs opposing Darkrai. Just another mention, by running CM Darkrai > CM Dark Arceus, the user is able to use Arceus elsewhere on the team when in normal circumstances they would be unable to due to species clause.
  • Substitute blocks status
  • Can take strong attacks from Scarfers who switch in such as Draco Metoer from Dialga/Pakia or Surf from Scarf Ogre
  • No CM set onsite

AC:
  • An alternate spread of 252 HP / 4 SpA / 252 Spe can be run to maximize bulk
  • Focus Blast can be used to nail steel Types

Counters:
  • Scizor in general causes large issues especially if Focus Blast isnt used
  • Lucario, Heatran Dialga assuming no Focus Blast
  • Blissy can Seismic Toss through Darkrai’s Sub
  • Ho-Oh can switch in, roost of SR damage and proceed to OHKOing Darkrai
  • Strong physical attacks
  • Fighting and Steel Arceus



Teammates:
  • Magnezone can trap Scizor, Lucario etc
  • Wobbuffet can help Darkrai setup while helping eliminate its counters
  • Hazard support is GREATLY appreciated to make up for the power drop from NP to CM
  • Giratina-O or Ghost Arceus can take fighting or bug attacks aimed at it
 
I just put CM Darkrai on my SPL team which has NP Darkrai. I probably should have tested with a team more "suited" for CM rai but meh

There is literally no reason at all to use Calm Mind over Nasty Plot. All this set does is take double the turns than usual to sweep your opponent and gives them time to stop you. Sure you survive some more attacks that you normally wouldn't after a Calm Mind (Palkia and Dialga's Draco Meteor's, Kyogre's Surf) but there is really nothing that you can do back to them since you're doing less damage than you would with Nasty Plot. This set also does way less to Groudon and Garchomp but they still do the same amount of damage to you. Calm Mind doesn't give Darkrai any advantage's, he's still pretty frail but without Nasty Plot he's also weak. I would never _EVER_ use this set.

EDIT: I'm not even sure if you do survive Draco meteor from Dialga/Palkia after SR, I'm just assuming you do. The set is still bad either way.
 
Even though darkrai has access to dark void, he is still outclassed by darkceus because he simply does not have the bulk to pull it off. Normally, NP darkari can keep scizor in check with a +2 focus blast, but with calm mind, scizor has nothing to fearand can simply u-turn out , and if you use substitite, scizor can just stay in and bullet punch you to death (Variants with roost and SD can even set up on you). Also, Darkrai's lack of instant recovery means that he will have a very hard time getting past s-toss blissey.

Ok then under that guideline I will retract my "Outclassed" comment, but I still do not feel that the set would be all that effective. It at the very least would face stiff competition from taunt+CM mewtwo, essentially trading usage of taunt for Dark Void. However, without taunt, blissey stops the set with ease.
 
Though generally outclassed by NP darkrai, this could set up on weak special attacks. Otherwise NP is way better. Of course if it is viable we should include it. Main problem is darkrai has no bulk and a worse stab. Maybe a CM mention in other options? No matter how you put it here is the problem with this set is how semi easy it is to revenge. Even with a plus one special defence boost it still looses to a choice scarf kyogre, and is easily revenged in general due to poor coverage with sub, or just not enough power against other sets.

Eh, I think he means things like lugia's ice beam, but even then, you are better just attacking. If you are wanting to set up on attacks then mewtwo is the way to go. Darkari is more of a one turn setup and unleash hell while you can kind of pokemon.
 
CM Darkrai is slightly harder to revenge kill, though. With NP, you can just send in Mewtwo as it NPs and Aura Sphere it to death, while with something like 32 HP/224 SpA/252 Spe, Darkrai will avoid being OHKO'd by LO Mewtwo's Aura Sphere after SR, and DM from both Palkia/Dialga as well. However, I would think that "Late-game sweeper when counters have been softened up a bit" definitely needs to be emphasised.
 
The problem with this set is that while it stops Scarfers and faster stuff from OHKOing you, you can't do enough back to the likes of Scarf Palkia / Kyogre and in return bulkier things can take you on (particularly Blissey which +1 Focus Blast just doesn't dent enough compared to +2 with LO).

It requires so much more effort to sweep with, because you might end up having to stack damage on three bulky pokemon rather than taking out their one Scarfer with Wobbuffet.
 
Ok first off, thanks Shrang for the better EV spread i updated it in the OP. and your right ill work on emphasizing that part.

As for those who think its outclassed by NP Darkrai, obviously the power drop isnt favorable but that doesnt prevent this darkrai from being effective. Ive gone through many games using NP Darkrai in which i havn't been able to due sufficient damage to the opposing team after voiding due to Being outspeed and hit for a large amount of damage due to threats such as LO Mewtwo, Scarf Darkrai, Scarf Palkia, Scarf Shaymin-S etc. By running CM not only are able to take hits from the aforementioned threats and such but your able to hit back with a +1 -if not more CM. Im not denying that Darkrai CM Darkrai misses the power that NP has, but it does have some stuff over it. Many teams can benefit from having a sweeper that can take a special attack or two instead of having their NP Darkrai OHKOed. Overall, Darkrai is much stronger but is still stopped by some threats that CM Darkrai can overcome. Its true that CM Darkrai may not be able to Damage threats like Palkia as much as i wish, but with Prior damage it can be an efficient late game sweeper as shrang pointed out.

I already reguarded as to why its not outclassed by arceus in the OP so im not going to bother here

CM Mewtwo lacks dark void, which Darkrai can effectively use to sleep an opposing mon- possibly even a counter. It has lacks a reliable STAB unlike Darkrai which means it has to often use an Un stabed move to hit opposing mons. Its typing is also inferior defensively (IMO) because Mewtwo has a Dark Weakness and well as ghost but then again that depends on your team. Once again im not in any way questing CM Mewtwo, im just saying it doesnt "outclass" darkrai

This is pretty much why NP Darkrai is better. It needs much less support to sweep and hurts way more.

Also having to choose between Status protection and even a chance against Blissey, Scizor, and Dialga is a horrible choice. Blissey beats this set almost 100% after sleep clause has been activated. The nasty plot set can just outright blast through once scarfers are dead, rather than having Darkrai attempt to live through with multiple calm minds.
 
The main problem I see with this is that when you have both Nasty plot and Calm Mind you would only use Calm mind if you were at least decently bulky but Darkrai is not making getting multiple calm minds a difficult task. Sure your harder to revenge kill but then the revenge killer survives your hit anyway because you just can't do quite enough damage and therefore get you KO anyway. Maybe a mention in Other Options perhaps but definitely not an entire set.
 
Nasty Plot is better, although Calm Mind can be mentioned in Optional Changes. I don't really see what this set beats that the Nasty Plot set doesn't.
