Dead computer -- goodbye for a while.

I woke up this morning and did my usual morning routine, which involves turning on my router and computer. Imagine my surprise, then, that when pushing the power button, my computer did not even start to start up. I did the usual diagnostic stuff (make sure everything is plugged in), then cracked open the case, put another cord in...nothing, though a green LED appeared on the motherboard which apparantly means that it's receiving standby power from the power supply.

The model was an EMachines T2742. I just searched around on the internet from this campus computer that I'm posting on right now, and it seems that this is a fairly well-known problem with this line, and it means it's pretty much dead (motherboard AND/OR power supply). This thread pretty much describes my exact problem.

I count myself fortunate that my hard drives aren't dead, I can't afford another computer, so I'm hoping I can find one dumped outside a corporate office or something (not that there are any big corporations around here). That's the only way I'll be able to get another one, at least...a new motherboard and power supply would cost almost the price of a whole new computer.

So, goodbye for a while until I'm fortunate enough to find something that someone dumped.

Oh wow, that's awful. I've often had the opposite problem of losing hard drives and having the computer be okay...

Well, hope to see you back soon ;[

I found a computer graveyard! If I can salvage a working machine, I may be back sooner than I thought. Thanks for all the support.

That's where all the Pentium 3s with Windows ME go when they feel their time has come.
Anyway that sucks dude, at least your hard drive still works. If my hard drive died I'd like break everything on sight or something.

That sucks dude. I had this problem earlier and it turned out that my power cord (the cord that goes from the switch on top of your cabinet into your motherboard) was loose. It might just be that trivial a problem. Anyway, good luck in finding a working pc.

I actually had a very similar problem a while ago -- computer dead, harddrives (thank God) safe. It took me two weeks to get a new computer and import some old data from my old computer, so I can certainly relate. Hope you get a new computer soon!
