Defensive Dragonite....???? WTH

Hey guys to those who can remember me who made that weird format for pokemanz. So for now, I am too lazy to make that format and I will update this post if I am done making the format. My internet is kinda fuzzy and I can't upload the custom-made pictures in the internet that fast. Anyway, let's get on with the team.

Mini story:
So this team has two purposes. One, is to troll and the other is to sweep efficiently with either Lucario or Gengar. You might think why I have a defensive Dragonite. Wasting such offensive power for defense. Well it's the same as using Jirachi with support moves and the rest. Jirachi can be a good recipient of SmashPass so yea. I have a question to those who are still wondering. If you play Ubers, would you mind explaining why they use Groudon as a defensive/support Pokemon? Wasting such a good Pokemon with 150 base Attack and Double Dancing moves. So much for that. Anyway, here's the actual team.

Side Note: Pictures are posted. Also, exportable version added.

A defensive Dragonite?????? Pwnage are you kidding me?? No, in fact, I am dead serious with this Pokemon as it is one of my 3 defensive core. I usually use this as lead so I am placing him in the first place. 5th Gen has been very kind to Dragonite giving it a god-send gift in form of Multiscale. With the said ability, Dragonite can perform offensively with the free set-up without fear of getting OHKOed. The second purpose is to that Dragonite ALMOST EVERY HIT FROM ANY POKEMON bar the strongest Ice-type attacks and Mold Breaker Haxorus as it ignores Multiscale. Now let's get on why I used Dragonite as a defensive Pokemon. This is a para-shuffler set for those who don't know. Basically what it does is Thunder Wave something then Roost(since you'll go first) as they try to struggle damaging Dragonite. The thing is you Sub+Roost to keep your self in full shape. When they get fully paralololyzed, you Dragon Tail as they try to hit you again. Since you get damaged in the process, you have two options after the next Pokemon comes out. One is to switch out if they threaten you. Two is you Thunder Wave them then Roost if they can't really harm you. Then rinse and repeat. The real purpose of Para-shuffling is that Lucario is very slow and will need the Speed drop of Paralyze to efficiently sweep when threats are still lurking. The number one is Terrakion. Terrakion resists ExtremeSpeed and is faster than Lucario so I can't hit him with Close Combat. Anyway, that's enough for Dragonite and let's get on with my other Defensive guys.

Now this is what I call awesome. Vaporeon comes in Pokemon that Dragonite can't paralyze, Ground-types. They all spell big trouble to my team. My moves are designed to destroy the most common Ground-types namely Landorus and Gliscor. Scald is just for STAB and the chance to Burn something is always good. Now the synergy for my Vaporeon is Dragonite takes care of all Grass-types and Lanturn takes care of all Electric-types. Vaporeon is also a good Wish Passer when Dragonite has damage and he has to switch in. Since Multiscale isn't in effect, Wish is totally recommended. Also, this is to remove Stealth Rock damage. Since Lanturn does not have any form of recovery, Wish comes in handy. All in a few words, Wish is a good move.

Now lemme introduce to you all. Lanturn, the RU pokemon who has poor stats and is extremely outclassed by Rotom-W. SCREW THAT. Does Rotom-W have access to Volt Absorb and Heal Bell? NO! This is the best troll in my team. It trolls the fuck out of Starmie and Rotom-W. Rotom-W wants to Volt Switch aww I have Lanturn. Credits to TheFlamingSpade of YouTube for making this awesome set and defensive core of Vaporeon and Lanturn. Now they have one weakness in common and Lanturn is weak to the omnipresent Earthquake so I need to patch that up. And there goes Dragonite, the real troll of the team. Basically, this Pokemon acts as Electric-type immune and cleric. Which means that all of my walls are free to absorb any status 8 times. Though Lanturn should never be asleep because I can't use Heal Bell. Getting frozen isn't really a big deal since I have Scald to melt the ice lol. Anyway, the purposes are stated so let's get on with my other Pokemon.

Forry. I've been loving this guy ever since I had tried Ferrothorn and have been in absolute disappointment. Anyway, let's get on with this. Stealth Rock and Spikes are for basic use and to help my Dragonite rack up damage as he Dragon Tails. The rest of the moves are for utility. I chose the Specially Defensive set over the Physically one since Forretress pretty much dies to any special attack and I want to remedy that. With this set, I can take even Choice Specs Latios' Draco Meteor(I know resisted) which does a fuck ton to those who even resist it and Blissey. Although it does like 35% to Ferrothorn. The reason over Ferrothorn is because I totally need Rapid Spin since Dragonite's Multiscale will be gone which is a very big deal to me. Also, so my walls won't be killed by other hazards like Toxic Spikes.

Now let's get on with my Sweepers:

IVs: 30 Atk / 30 SpA / 30 Spe

Now this guy is an absolute troll with sub up. Scizor? lol. Eat HP Fire. Tyranitar? Eat two Focus Blasts. The only ones who scare me out are Starmie, Tornadus, Latios, and other Gengar. Starmie is the biggest pain in the ass. Though it is killed with Shadow Ball, Starmie is faster and can't be Paralololyzed courtesy of Natural Cure. Tornadus are only a threat when they aren't paralyzed. Other Gengar and Latios are the same and I will be slower because of the IV drop. Other than that, I have all the reasons to use Gengar. Even without Life Orb, I can still 2HKO threats. With the help of entry hazards by Forretress and some para-hax with Dragonite, nothing but the pink blobs stands in my way of sweeping teams. The pink blobs won't like meeting my last member, Lucario.

Now my best Blissey counter out there. Luke is one of the few forgotten sweepers of DPPt thanks to a lot of new Fighting-types introduced by this Gen. Conkeldurr has more bulk, Terrakion has more speed and attack, Infernape has one of the best mixed-attacking stats, and lastly, Virizion has more speed and has access to Giga Drain which can let it set up more. The speed issue is cured for our not-so-long forgotten Lucario. Dragonite is there and has great synergy with him. The one and only problem that is very hard for me to defeat is Conkeldurr. The best way to kill it is to go to Lanturn and Toxic then stall. Now let's get on the explanation on why I use him. With a very good attack stat and access to Swords Dance, Lucario is a very serious threat that must be stopped at all costs. One of the best physical walls, Skarmory, is 2HKOed with a +2 Close Combat and Gliscor is OHKOed with Ice Punch. Though I don't really try to kill Gliscor with this Pokemon as there's usually the risk that Gliscor will be running an offensive set and Gliscor is naturally faster that Lucario. This is where the team comes in handy.

Nice team overall! No blatant problems I can see, I'll look at this team more later when I have time, and it's not so late, but congrats on making an unconvential but working team!

The only comment I'll leave for now is that your team is pretty defensively oriented, with only two sweepers, and I feel that the defensive core more supports each other then the sweeper just by looking at it? Just a though! GL!

This team is really meant to be defensive. But when something goes wrong, for example my Dragonite dies, that's pretty much the time I go offensive with my sweepers. I also use my sweepers once I'm fully set up. And what I mean with "fully set up" is that I paralyzed what I can and set up Stealth Rock and at least a layer of Spikes.

Anyway, thanks for the mini rate and I look forward to your future rates

Would you mind giving an Importable link >_> I like to try out teams generally :P
Hitmonchanman here As you will see i specialize in .... Unusual pokemans
The main thing I see without trying the team out is that you are purely relying on Dnite for paralysis Which is vital for your Lucario, You could use T-wave/Discharge on Lanturn but it would probably have to be for Toxic which looks like it is important for the team (especially conkeldurr)

Without trying it out it is hard to see if it would work but (It normally doesn't) you might like to try an Ursaring yes yes I said it. With paralysis support he can use guts instead of quick feet and with Guts+facade+Possible Swords Dance boost He could wreck teams and He covers pretty much everything Lucario covers (Again note that this might not work but when it does fit on a team it is Unexpected and Deadly)

Ursaring (M) @ Toxic Orb
Trait: Guts
EVs: 4 HP / 252 Atk / 252 Spd
Jolly Nature (+Spd, -SAtk)
- Close Combat
- Ice Punch/Crunch
- Facade
- Swords Dance/Protect

As you see, we pretty much have the same style of play. I also try to use unusual Pokemon. The reason for no exportable is that when I did an RMT same as this, someone said that putting an exportable is kinda useless. I'll just put one. As for the Ursaring, I see no reason for using it since Conk will just Mach Punch it. For Lucario, I can stall out a little of Toxic then Extremespeed.

EDIT:

just some unrelated stuff. I tried to use a Trick Room team in OU and the team was full of UU and below guys. It worked wonders. Here's the link: http://www.smogon.com/forums/showthread.php?t=3459699 oh and don't post anything in that link

I have to say this is a very effective balanced team, but I don't know, it's kinda bugging me that you use Forretress to deal with Latios and Latias. Sure is works in theory, but people will just used trick, hidden power fire, or just attack with a different special move.

One idea I have been thinking of is switching Dragonite with a specially defensive Jirachi. This will allow you to deal with Lati@s a lot easier and allow you to used a physically defensive Foretress instead. Also I highly suggest you use gyro ball > volt switch on Forretress to deal with various dragon pokemon. With then with Jirachi as your wish maker, you don't need Vaporeon, so you can use Latias to deal with your remaining threats, and ones opened by switching to Jirachi like Venusaur. The only problem is no matter how much I fiddle with it, your left with a small weakness to baton pass teams. Your only hope is to hit Espeon with extreme speed after some hazards. I don't know if you willing to do that, if not then whatever.

Jirachi @ Leftovers
Trait: Serene Grace
EVs: 252 HP / 224 SDef / 32 Spd
Careful Nature (+SDef, -SAtk)
- Wish
- Thunder Wave
- Iron Head
- Protect

Latias (F) @ Leftovers
Trait: Levitate
EVs: 252 HP / 4 Def / 252 Spd
Timid Nature (+Spd, -Atk)
- Calm Mind
- Dragon Pulse
- Recover
- Roar

You could use stealth rock>protect if you want to use toxic spikes on Forretress, but it may not be worth the risk.

Good luck.

@Scarfwynaut: Umm Forretress is not my only way of dealing with Lati@s. Actually, the set is just to surprise them, not to really counter them. I usually use Vaporeon. As for the Baton Pass team, you are quite right, I do have problems with them. I'll try out Roar on Vaporeon and replace Scald on Lanturn with Ice Beam and see if that works. For now, I don't plan on removing any of my team members as I see success just right in front of me.

pwnage...u fucking turned me back on to Lanturn...like gallade, why the fuck is it RU...i tried ur set, and it's what my team has been missing defensively...grass type is rare in ou, because it sucks, so i ran a team with both rotom-w and lanturn, and they compliment each other beautifully, with rotom taking away lanturns ground weakness and threatens back with hydro pump, and ran a scizor and dragonite alongside them that both are 4x resistant to grass just in case. it pwns bro...haha, back to your team

Foretress does nothing for your team, change it to a mamoswine...another offensive mon, that could lay rocks for you...spikes is no reason to solely dedicate a mon to, and mamo trolls on non extremspeed nite all day as well as other dragons, u lack ice and ground moves that are very necessary in OU

Mamoswine @ life orb/choice band
nature: adamant/jolly
252 atk/ 252 speed/4 hp

Ice shard
earthquake
stone edge
stealth rock

its not a mon that cant switch into much, but not much could switch into it either, besides u have a trollish core that could switch into anything already...ur team also lacks offence which mamo brings with its almost unresisted stabs.

@pimpinberto: Sorry for that. Anyway, yea Grass is kinda rare but some Pokemon randomly carry Hidden Power Grass like some Rotom-W. Ferrothorn can be a bit of a pain if it has Power Whip or if it is Choice Banded(which obviously carries Power Whip). You know, I'm the kind of player that looks into all possibilities. Like an Offensive Gliscor.

If you have read some previous posts, I said that this team is meant to be defensive. And oh, if I remove forretress, I'd lose one of my core, Dragonite, in like 4-5 switches. And Spikes is there to help me stall out a little with Dragon Tail from D-nite.

Hi pwnage

Well I really like the team I have no change but 1. For Lanturn You might want it gone not for wash but because it's a poor mans Vaporeon. So if I were you I'd boot it for something else. But if you don't want to feel free to keep it. So good luck with the team!

You see, Lanturn is my only cleric and also a counter to Rotom-W and Starmie. Without him, I'd be losing the game. Also, it's just fun to see that mad face on people's faces when they try to Thunderbolt my Vaporeon and I switch into this thing.

Mamoswine lead might be a problem for Dragonite. Obviously Mamoswine will carry the Ice Shard with no fear of the T-Wave and I think it can 2HKO dragonite. Therefore you will be forced to switch or break your multiscale.

Choice-banded Infernape will dent anything it sees.

That is kinda true. Whenever I see a Mamoswine, I switch into my Gengar and use HP Fire. Well I can really go to my Lucario but there's a chance that the Mamo is Jolly. I don't really see a reason for using CB Nape. This team isn't really meant to be offensive so Cb Nape is not needed. As for the fears of Ice Shard, Vaporeon is there to take hits all day everyday. Thanks for the advice though. I'll be keeping that CB Nape idea in mind. But until I see a totally good reason for it, I won't be replacing any member.

The first thing that I notice about this team other than Dragonite is the fact that it lacks weather. No weather teams are fine when they are built to handle all forms of weather or at least Sand, Rain, and Sun. Although this team isn't built that way. I don't see much purpose for having Vaporeon and Lanturn on this team. I'd replace Vaporeon with Politoed to add weather. This change would help justify why you chose Lanturn. Considering the pace of the team and what this team lacks I would use classic defensive Politoed. Protect, perish song, icebeam, scald. I do understand that this would make Gengar's hp fire weakened of course, however the regular painsplit Gengar set is nearly just as effective under substitute with just focus blast and shadowball. Along with that I would suggest standard life orb to the set for more power.

I can see this team having a problem with sub cm Jirachi. Other than that I don't see too many problems other than the fact that you'll be forced to sac a Pokemon to any sleep inducing moves. Other than that Breloom is heavily walled by this team.

I'd go with toxic spikes instead of spikes on Forretress to defeat Jellicent.
By doing that you are also freeing up a spot on Lanturn, who could use the move thunder or icebeam.
Lastly You'd definitely have to take the fact that nothing on your team other than gengar can handle Terrakion. If it uses stone edge you can only send in Lucario, who wouldn't last long after 2 or 3 choice band stone edges.
Good Luck

First of all. I don't have any trouble handling any weather so no thank you for the advice on Politoed. To add to that, I don't have any abuser to add a Politoed in anyway. Vaporeon and Lanturn are two of my defensive core. I see no reason adding Politoed and removing Vaporeon because Lanturn doesn't have any kind of recovery and so Wish passing is the only way to recover. The reason for Spikes is that Gengar has Leftovers which means that I can't hurt as much as any set with Life Orb. I don't have any trouble handling Jellicent as it is scared by the presence of my Lanturn and if it does decide to stay, I can go for Toxic. As for Ice Beam, I really need it on Vaporeon seeing that all pokes who are weak to it usually have Earthquake (eg. Gliscor, Dragonite, etc.) and Lanturn is naturally slow in other words, I can get hit by Earthquake before I can Ice beam them. As for Jirachi, it won't like meeting my Lucario and it is completely walled by Lanturn unless it has Psyshock. As for Terrakion, yes I do have problems with it but if I get a free switch in to D-nite at full health, I can just paralyze it and make it cry with Lucario's Close Combat. However, I am still considering Epic OU's suggestion of Choice Band Infernape as it somehow has the same move pool as Lucario only lacking Ice Punch to hit Gliscor but has Mach Punch in order to take on a Terrakion or that SubCM Jirachi with its Fire-type STAB.
