Rotom-Wash turns 15 this year, woah! Let's celebrate with covering a return of a somewhat classic set for it!

[SET]
name: Defensive Pivot
move 1: Volt Switch
move 2: Foul Play
move 3: Will-O-Wisp / Thunder Wave
move 4: Hydro Pump / Tera Blast
item: Sitrus Berry / Leftovers
ability: Levitate
nature: Bold
tera type: Steel / Fairy / Ghost
Evs: 252 HP / 252 Def / 4 SpD

[SET COMMENTS]

* Levitate and excellent status moves make Rotom-W a clean choice for a bulky pivot!

* **Foul Play**: Foul Play is essential for hitting Baxcalibur hard, since it's immunity to burns would otherwise let it set up on Rotom-W.

* **Will-O-Wisp versus Thunder Wave**: Will-O-Wisp's ability to cripple top-tier physically offensive threats such as Dragonite, Garchomp, and Scizor as well as punish the otherwise problematic Iron Hands makes it the best support option. However, Thunder Wave does provide additional insurance against Baxcalibur and punishes special attackers such as Flutter Mane and Iron Moth.

* **Hydro Pump**: Hydro Pump gives Rotom-W offensive presence against foes that don't care about the rest of the moveset, like Garganacl, Volcarona, and Skeledirge.

Other Options
========

* **Discharge**: Giving Rotom-W an Electric STAB attack to better deal with Flying-types like Corviknight and Tera Flying Roaring Moon is useful, but it can be tricky to fit into the set.

* **Hex**: If using Tera Ghost, Hex gives Rotom-W a much fiercer offensive kick than usual after inflicting status.

Tera Types
========

* **Steel**: Tera Steel gives Rotom-W an incredible defensive typing, vastly improving its matchups against Pokemon that rely on Ground-type coverage such as Dragonite, Baxcalibur, and Garchomp. It also provides a useful Freeze-Dry resistance against Iron Bundle.

* **Fairy**: Tera Fairy guards against fearsome powerful Dragon-type and Fighting-type attacks that Rotom-W can have trouble handling (RC) and lets it use Tera Blast to hit special attacking Dragon-types like Dragapult and Hydreigon hard.

* **Ghost**: Tera Ghost offers Rotom-W a vast array of immunities with Levitate, enabling it to defeat certain Dragonite sets and do much better against Iron Hands and Iron Valiant when Rotom-W lacks Will-O-Wisp. Being a Ghost-type also prevents Rotom-W from getting trapped, letting it escape faster trappers without Volt Switch.

Items
========

* **Sitrus Berry**: Sitrus Berry will turn many powerful, unboosted attacks such as Dragonite's Outrage and Baxcalibur's Glaive Rush into 3HKOs.

* **Leftovers**: If Sitrus Berry is already in use, Leftovers is a reasonable alternative.

This is now ready for a QC check! Made a few changes from the sample set though.

- I removed Covert Cloak. On paper, being immune to Salt Cure rules, but in practice, a lot of Garganacl have a Tera that just.. totally walls this set lol. I don't mind adding it back as a mention if anyone wants though.

- Added Leftovers, its a good alternative if you need Sitrus on something else.

- Added Tera Ghost, its got a sick amount of immunities even if getting owned harder by Gholdengo and Flutter Mane is a pain.

I've been using the set a lot in the past week or so. I think it matches up very well in the current meta especially with Tera Steel. Steel should be the first Tera type on this set since Dragonite and Baxcalibur are much more common compared to Dragapult and Hydreigon. I have run into a few people using both WoW and TWave, but that is pretty rare.

I'm inclined to agree with this. We all know Dragonite and Baxcalibur are the big cheeses in town. Also, Freeze-Dry resistance is nice. I have now switched the Tera typing order!

insert obligatory covert cloak shilling here because bullying garg is fun

In all seriousness this looks quite good, cloak plot is its own set imo and as you said without plot Rotom just fumbles against the salt man. It should be noted that Terastallizing ghost allows Rotom to escape trapper sets though, with things starting to run whirlpool, fire spin etc. to beat defensive pokes for their teammates, this can be a selling point if you absolutely need your Rotom alive for something.

otherwise, looks great as always. QC APPROVED

Oh good point about the trapping part, I added a little detail about faster tappers too, in case you can NOT afford to take another hit and Volt Switch out.

Anyways, this is now ready for GP!

I’m also low key expecting certain mons to start running tera ground more to force volt switchers to stay in (iron bundle has a trapping set that has been doing this on showdown from what I’ve seen actually LOL) so in some cases, you might not even be able to volt switch, in which case Terastallizing ghost and hard switching is your only option

remove add / fix (comments); (AC=add comma; RC=remove comma; SC=semicolon)
