Devestating Latias

Ok i wanted to build a offencive team using Latias as my main sweeper, after some time i came up with this team, i feel like its pretty good but i enjoy any comments that might improve this team further. So without further ado:

Changes= Bold Writing

Building Process

When i started making this team i wanted Latias to be the main pokemon, i have used CM Latias before with great success. After even a single CM it can take down many opponents, especially with HP Fire.

Now i needed someone to take out the majority of Latias counters, Magnezone is good for killing most Steel types that pose a threat to my team. If i use Choice scarf it can outspeed all unscarfed steel types and kill them with thunderbolt or HP Fire.

Tyranitar is a big treath, so i need something that can take him down, apart from being able to kill of TTar quickly it can also spin away spikes and do a fair amount of damage with its great coverage.

Now i need a great speciall wall and Snorlax fill that spot perfectly, it works really well with taking down ghost pokemon and most of the special sweepers. If it doesnt do much damage it can atleast paralyse the opponent with body slam.

I need a physical wall on this team, Zapdos was the obvious choice with its great typing it only has two weaknesses and can wall most OU physical sweepers. With Heat Wave it can finish steel types that magnezone didnt get to take out.

Now someone to take out that Blissey that can cause big trouble for my team, i wanted a physical poke that can also take a couple of hits. Machamp was my choice, with its restalk set it can take los of hits and works well with my team.

After some testing i found that Magnezone and Zapdos did almsot the same so i decided to switch Magnezone with Scizor. It is a good revenge killer and has good synergy with the rest of the team.

After seing the suggestions to my team i decided to switch Starmie with Swampert. The main reason for this is so it can set up stealth rock, but also because it can counter dragons better than Starmie.

And even tho i hate blissey, after testing the team with Swampert it was apparent i needed a sturdier Special Wall. And as the expression goes "If you cant beat them, join them."

In dept:

Swampert (M) @ Leftovers
Trait: Torrent
EVs: 252 HP / 252 Def / 4 SDef
Relaxed Nature (+Def, -Spd)
- Earthquake
- Ice Beam
- Roar
- Stealth Rock

I have used Swampert as a lead on other teams and it havent worked out that well, thats why i was skeptical to use him on this team. After the suggestions i thought id atleast try it out and it worked perfectly. It is mainly to get up SR but it is good as a dragon counter too, it is good to switch in if you know there is an electric attack comming your way aswell. I wasnt sure if i should use roar or protect but i went with roar and i think that was the best choice, it works wonders against pokes that think its going to set up on me.

Scizor (M) @ Choice Band
Trait: Technician
EVs: 248 HP / 252 Atk / 8 Spd
Adamant Nature (+Atk, -SAtk)
- Bullet Punch
- Pursuit
- Superpower
- U-turn

Scizor is an awesome revenge killer, it is a great help in my war agains blissey too. Bullet Punch is great to kill of pokes that is faster me. Pursuit is ofcourse to kill ghosts and the likes switching out. I use U-Turn most tho, my opponent predicts a bullet punch and switches giving me the advantage. It has good synergy with this team, if someone with a fire attack should appear it can switch (or U-Turn predicting the treath) into either Latias which resists it or Swampert which also resists it, Swampert might be the best choice since it can kill most of the fire pokes with more ease than Latias.

Blissey (F) @ Leftovers
Trait: Natural Cure
EVs: 40 HP / 252 Def / 216 SDef
Calm Nature (+SDef, -Atk)
- Aromatherapy
- Seismic Toss
- Softboiled
- Thunder Wave

I have sayd that i dont like Blissey, which is true, but there simply wasnt any better pokemon to use for this spot. It can take any Special attacks with ease and use Seismic Toss for reliable damage. Aromatherapy is awesome on this team because Latias is very crippeled after a toxic or thunder wave, so it great to be able to take that away. Thunder wave is there to cripple physical attackers that switches in on me. I could've used a wishbliss, but as i said Latias really struggels aftar a status hit so i decided to go with the cleric set.

Zapdos @ Leftovers
Trait: Pressure
EVs: 248 HP / 228 Def / 32 Spd
Bold Nature (+Def, -Atk)
- Hidden Power [Grass]
- Heat Wave
- Roost
- Thunderbolt

This is my physical wall, it can take most of the physical attacks. Only ice and rock attacks are effective and since i dont see much of rock attacks i dont really have much to fear, if i get trouble with ice attacks i generally switch to Blissey to absorb it with Thick Fat. Zapdos is also good for killing steel types with Heat Wave, i cant do much against Heatran except spam Thunderbolt but i can switch into Blissey or Starmie. I chose HP Grass to deal with Swampert which i have some problem with without a grass move.

Machamp (M) @ Leftovers
Trait: No Guard
EVs: 252 HP / 252 Atk / 4 Def
Adamant Nature (+Atk, -SAtk)
- Dynamicpunch
- Payback
- Sleep Talk
- Rest

Machamp can take out Blissey which cause problem to my team and can kill TTar without much problem aswell. It can take a couple of hits and rest up to restore hp and eliminate status problems. Payback is there for hitting ghosts swithing in. A restalk set is really nice, it lets me switch into toxic and other status effects without too much worry and hypnosis doesnt bother me much either. Mostly the pokemon i switch in on switches out before i can hurt them so it might be better to use scizor instead and trap them with Pursuit.

Latias (F) @ Leftovers
Trait: Levitate
EVs: 4 HP / 252 Spd / 252 SAtk
Timid Nature (+Spd, -Atk)
- Calm Mind
- Dragon Pulse
- Hidden Power [Fire]
- Surf

Now the last pokemon and my main sweeper, Latias is deadly after a couple of CM boosts. It isnt hard to set up with either after its main counters are gone, HP Fire is there to get rid of those annoying Scizors that usually pops out after i send Latias out. I have no problem with Salamence coming in on me, i outspeed it and after a CM i OHKO it with Dragon Pulse. I Chose Surf instead of recover because then i can sweep much easier. The loss of recover sucks against pokes with ice beam, but i can usually get rid of them before sending in Latias.

How do i use my team ?

Hope you liked my team.
Happy rating ;p

I think you could probably change the set on one of your RestTalkers. While having two isn't a problem, it's probably not all that necessary. Instead, you could run Subchamp (Substitute, Dynamic Punch, Payback, Stone Edge/Bulk Up).

I think having no Stealth Rock is a problem, and you should find a place for it. Maybe keeping RestTalk Machamp, and then replacing Snorlax with Blissey (Seismic Toss/Flamethrower/Ice Beam, Wish/Softboiled, Stealth Rock, ???).

Alternatively, since your primary sweeper (and the rest of your team) is not overly affected by entry hazards, replacing your lead Starmie with a Swampert (EQ, Ice Beam, Roar/Protect, Stealth Rock).

Hello Artmesis,

Alright reading the descriptions, it seems like you could seriously fit in Swampert over Starmie. Why? Well your reasons for Starmie is to check Tyranitar and Swampert does a pretty effective job at checking it. Swampert also adds Stealth Rock to the team which helps your sweepers sweep, especially Latias. Stealth Rock is a staple on teams, especially when dealing with over-powered threats like Gyarados and Salamence. Furthermore, Swampert checks Salamence to a good extent with Ice Beam. The set is ice Beam / Stealth Rock / Earthquake / Roar with the EVs 252 Hp / 252 Def / 6 SpD with the nature Relaxed. A Scizor + Swampert core is actually pretty solid when dealing with Salamence - a huge problem in todays metagame. Defenitely look for this.

With the drop of Speed from Hidden Power Fire, Gengar and Latias seems to strike a problem. Snorlax can't do anything significant to them since they can switch out with relative ease. Your best bet is striking for the Choice Band set to effectively remove them (by trapping them!). Alright so its the moveset Crunch / Pursuit / Return / Earthquake with the nature of Adamant and the EVs 6 HP / 252 Atk / 252 SpD. This allows you to effecively remove Gengar and Latias from the match (if they decide to flee). Crunch will deal loads of damage on them if they decide to stay in. Return hits hard, but Body Slam could go over that if you prefer the paralysis rate. Earthquake gives you a reliable way to actually hit Heatran since Latias won't be dealing any significant damage to it.

As for other otpions, going back to Choice Scarf Magnezone might work out for you to check SD Lucario and trap Scizor over Zapdos. The reason I say this is because it allows Latias to run Surf or Thunderbolt over hidden Power Fire to actually hit Heatran for neutral or super effective damage. The only drawback with that is that you have a little more trouble with Gyarados. If you decide to do that, go for Hidden Power Electric over Roar on Swampert for a trial to actually hit Gyarados hard (2HKO). If you do stick to Zapdos, I'd go for an EV spread of 248 Hp / 184 Def / 76 Spe to outrun Adamant Lucario. If you're scared of Jolly Lucario (which most likely run ice Punch) aim for 248 HP / 84 Def / 176 Spe. overall gl.

Thanks for the suggestions I have taken them into consideration and done some more testing. After a few days i came up with these changes, I think they improve the team quite a bit.

joshe

the best
I don't have any time to rate but i found one little thing i'm sure you want to fix lol.

change Scizor's ability to Technician :)

Hey

If you want to use Latias as your main sweeper then I suggest using the Offensive latias set.

Latias @ leftovers/ timid/ levitate
6 HP, 252 Spe, 252 SAtk

- Dragon Pulse
- Surf
- HP fire
- Calm Mind

--> Almost the same as the one you're unsing now exept the EV's are a now full offensive. Surf has now gone over Recover. During a sweep you don't always have time to recover. But to have some recovery I opted for Leftovers instead of Life Orb

Hope this'll work for you!

You definitely need a better Lucario counter. It has easy set-up fodder in Blissey and your Scizor's Pursuit and can then proceed to sweep your team down. Your Zapdos isn't reliable at all, since a boosted Close Combat or Extremespeed can take down Zapdos after 2 Stealth Rock switch-ins, so unless Zapdos is in absolute perfect shape when Lucario comes in, there's little you can do to stop it.

Zapdos seems to be the most replacable Pokemon on your team. It's a good physical wall, though there are plenty of other choices. You might be better off with a Gliscor over Zapdos.

Gliscor @ Leftovers | Jolly
252 HP / 40 Def / 216 Spd
Earthquake / Roost / Taunt / Toxic

Gliscor walls any Lucario that doesn't run Ice Punch, and even then Gliscor can outspeed Lucario and OHKO with Earthquake. It retains Zapdos' useful Flying type to take Grass, Bug, Fighting and Ground attacks, and it doesn't come at the cost of a Stealth Rock weakness. Finally, Taunt helps nicely with stall, shutting down any and all set-up and recovery. Then Gliscor can Toxic its foe and stall them out.

You really also use another Steel-type. Why is this a problem? Well, Scizor has the unfortunate problem of being easily trapped by Magnezone. If Scizor gets locked into Bullet Punch or Pursuit, Magnezone can come in and swiftly eliminate it from the field. Now you've lost your only Outrage and Draco Meteor resist and you are now quite prone to Latias, Gengar and DD Salamence. I suggest you replace Machamp with a Jirachi.

Jirachi @ Expert Belt | Naive
252 Atk / 4 SpA / 252 Spd
Iron Head / Ice Punch / Fire Punch / Thunderbolt

This particular Jirachi set can deal with both Blissey and Tyranitar, without being too vulnerable to Magnezone. It also makes you even less vulnerable to stall, Lucario, and Dragon types.

Good luck with your team.
