Welcome to Smogon! Take a moment to read the Introduction to Smogon for a run-down on everything Smogon, and make sure you take some time to read the global rules.
We return with Desmond and Travis trying to use the numbers to their advantage, and Kraken trying to hold on. He immediately looks to put himself in a better position by Absorbing some of Tavis' health for his own benefit. Travis meanwhile completely ignores his trainer's actions, instead choosing to obey what few rules this Daycare Centre has. Desmond preps Kraken for future attacks, Leering at him to reduce his defences.
Kraken once again turns his sights on Travis, this time with yet another Energy Ball. This once again causes Trav's Special Defence to drop, but it shouldn't make a huge difference with his current lack of measurable HP. For his action Trav simply turns to his trainer with a look that is equal parts confusion and pity for making such a dumb move. At the same time Desmond does something half useful, and once again Yawning at Jellicent.
Desmond looks to sieze the initiative right away, but his paralysis once again prevents him from doing any actual damage. His Yawn will take a while to have any effect on the battle too, so Kraken continues on his merry way by knocking Travis out with another Absorb, taking what was left of his health in the process.
The round ends with the arrival of an Oshawott! Desmond is relieved not to see another fire type, but the Oshawott turns its attention to Kraken anyway, striking him with its Razor Shell for a little bit of damage.
+1 Stat Boosters/Drops received from non-damaging moves (Meditate, Leer) have that stat maintained at the end of each round independent of which action they are used on.
Those battles are all wrong, and the terminology there is ambiguous at best. Leer and other similar -/+1 Stat-only moves do not last for the entire match. They lock the stat for that boost's duration only. So if you want the boost/drop to be permanent, that means you have to use that move once every round in order to maintain the lock, otherwise they decrement as normal. I have spoken with Deck Knight countless times about this, and I assure you that the drop from Leer and similar moves is not permanent.
Yeah I was fully aware Leer was not permanent, and even asked in the Ref training thread to confirm it yesterday. Never the less I did forget to include the def drop that does last through this round still in my round end summary, but this has since been fixed.
Well since everybody's up mays as well, DK might want to consider updating the data thread if moves are still being interpreted like that or make an announcement somewhere Faint Attack > Shadow Sneak > Faint Attack
If we weren't at the pointy end of the battle last time we definitely are now, because this one has come down to a straight one versus one between the two Ghost Pokemon. Kraken starts us off with a Water Pulse, and although the move is his speciality Desmond's Steel body resists the move. Des responds with something sure to hit Kraken hard, in another Faint Attack. Unfortunately the Jellicent's body seems tuned to this manoeuvre, and his Cursed Body once again activates and disables the move for a short time.
Desmond decides to get in first this time around, and does so with a Shadow Sneak that also does fair damage to the opposing Ghost. Kraken responds with his last action before taking a nap, with a Will-O-Wisp that will not only do gradual damage to the Nohface, but also weaken his physical attacking prowess. Right after the action the Yawn gets to Kraken and he immediately falls into an Intense Sleep.
The third action is full of real excitement. By that I mean Kraken slept and Desmond tried to use a move that he has temporarily forgotten. The action soon gets livened up with the re-arrival of Treeko. The locals seem to have something against Pokemon who sleep during a battle, because he turns right to Kraken and rips into him with an Energy Ball for huge damage. Kraken ends the round severely hurt and incapacitated for the coming moments, and surely it is only a matter of time until Desmond and DFrog are able to put this one to bed.
It felt quite strange writing that Steel resisted Water, don't know why I did it in fact. Fixed none the less. Apologies for the slight errors throughout reffing this, I should proof-read things better before I post them.
Kraken (M) Ability: Cursed Body HP: 7 EN: 34 SPEED: 15 STAT: N/A OTHER: Second Degree Burn, Asleep (2a)
Desmond is quickly looking to finish the Jellicent off, but thanks to the burn his Shadow Sneak does not do quite enough to get the job done. The burn certainly does though, and the win is finally sealed for DFrog and his team.
Kraken is hurt by his burn [2 DMG] Kraken is knocked out!
Desmond is hurt by his burn [2 DMG]
DFrog wins!
Well I thought that the evolution would tip it into iiMKUltra's favour, but some unlucky hits from the interupting Pokemon turned it against him. GG to you both, a very fun match to ref.
