Disconnecting in Global Link matches

I have done my part my sending a support ticket with regards to this issue.

Code:
Hi TPCi,

Thanks for setting up the Ratings Mode battle in GBU. However, due to the fact the game reports to the GBU server, and the way the ratings are calculated, there are a lot of instances where players Disconnects during the battle or after the battle when they knew they are losing or have lost as they do not wish to lose their ratings.

The situation has been so bad lately that there is no one in Random Match Ups. I can even use my another DS console and another copy of Pokémon Black (J) to log in Wifi Random Matchup Ratings mode to fight against myself.

Even if there are opponent, they are bound to disconnect during battles when they are losing. (Or what fandom called Ragequits)

The situation has been really bad, else I will not even bother to write this support ticket. I am pretty sure I am not the first person to address this issue.

I do have some recommendations:
1. Autoloss if user disconnects
As stated on your GBU FAQ, it is player's responsibility to ensure stable internet connection. Before a match starts, points are deducted from the player's rating first, then reimburse back after the match ends. If a player disconnect during the match, the ratings lost will serve as disconnect penalty.

2. Eliminate negative ratings after matches
Another way to solve this issue is to award small amount of ratings to the trainer who lost the match while rewarding the trainer who won with a bigger ratings. This will eliminate intentional disconnecting during matches.

I really hope you guys could solve this issue, as a lot of players that I discussed over the world has responded that the ragequitting are so bad that they rather stick to Free mode.

Regards,
Soon
If TPCi didn't get a favourable response, I will do a petition for it. It is we who bought the game to use the service. :)
Both of your solutions would work perfectly. However, there would still be rampant D/Cing in Free mode... but I guess I could live with that if rated mode gets cleaned up. I'd gladly sign this.

Lots of dubious design choices are what has caused this problem. On top of the solutions you suggested, I'd add something about removing the after-battle "WIN! - LOSE." screen. I mean, really. I'd bet that screen causes 50% of D/Cs in Free mode. Only competetive players would ever touch this mode. What competetive player likes to lose? What competetive player likes having it rubbed in their face for 10 seconds after battle when they already know they just lost!?!?

This isn't some obnoxious arcade game. Why does it act like one!?

Simple fix: Go ahead and display a big happy "WIN!" for the winner, and for the loser, display nothing, or a "Nice Try!" screen... anything but a big, discouraging LOSE(R). I also really like the idea for giving out some sort of rewards for players who have competed in XX number of matches, regardless of outcome, to help reduce D/Cing like PBR did.

Many would rage quite even more if they see that. That sounds so lame (No offense). Nice try just sounds so stupid many people would quit if they saw that.
No offense of course.

But I like the idea of taking away the sign of "Lose". Let winners have win and losers have nothing show up honestly.

Hi people.
From the programming Point of View, removing the screen would mean a patch to the game. I am not sure if TPCi are able to do this kind of patching, nor the game is able to receive such patching.

As far as I try to understand, the architecture used for there network battles are different from most games.
E.g. Street Fighter 4 3D (3DS)
Game - Server - Game
Server as host, deciding who win or lose.

For Pokemon BW (Which I believe)
Game - Game
Both games reports to server saying they are looking for challengers. Server assign 1 pair of games and appoint one of them as host. After the game is concluded, then both games reports to server again for score update.

If one side DCed, the scores will not be reported, but will be reflected in your game (if the dc occured after the battle ends, during sending info to server). [[Supported by 133k's post]] Server will reject any invalid battle reports and dump it as if it never occurred before. For a battle report to be valid, IT MUST BE REPORTED BY BOTH GAMES.

This is my POV on how the game works.

Hey Shroomisaur, thanks for your support.

As for rampant DCing in Free mode, the impact isn't as much as Ratings mode.

Furthermore, I would say, those who dced even in Free mode have NO PRIDE in their Pokémon they trained. Either they are new trainers of the WIFI matches or they are just simply hackers.

When they DC, you should have a good laugh at them. :)

I have gain slightly more confidence in TPCi

Hello Soon!

Thank you for contacting the Pokémon Support Team.

We see that you have suggestions on how we can improve our GBU tournament disconnections. We do appreciate all of your feedback and Thank You for taking to time contact the Pokémon Support Team with your issue.

We know that you're very excited to have your voice heard and we have forwarded your ticket to the appropriate team to take action and investigate.

If you have any other information concerning your issue, please update this ticket!

Thank you for playing Pokémon

Sincerely,
Pokémon Support Team

I believe they should be forwarding that ticket to the Japs. Hope the system can be greatly improved for the next GBU system maintenance. :)

Could there be a problem in people causing their opponent to disconnect if this system is implemented? In Halo 2, the host was able to cause his opponents to disconnect, would that be possible in Pokemon Black?

Well, even if it was a bot, at least it was uplifting; the response I got was along the lines of, "Suck it up, we made the game this way for a reason."

Ah well. I doubt they'd say your ticket was forwarded if it really wasn't.

I just got a D/C, but I think I deserved it, after KOing all Pokemon in three turns with Sheer Cold. I really have luck with this move, despite it being Friday the 13th. (Who believes in that, anyways?)

Very Recent D/C:
Player sent out Accelgor!
Darius sent out Tyranitar!

Accelgor used Focus Blast!
It's super effective!
The foe's Tyranitar fainted!

Darius sent out Excadrill!

The foe's Excadrill used Rock Slide!
It's super effective!
Accelgor fainted!

Go! Bouffalant!

The foe's Excadrill used Drill Run! (About 50% damage done.)
Bouffalant used Earthquake!
It's super effective!
The foe's Excadrill fainted!

Darius sent out Garchomp!

The foe's Garchomp used Earthquake!
Bouffalant fainted!

Go! Vanilluxe!

Vanilluxe used Ice Shard!
The Ice Gem strengthened Ice Shard's power!
It's super effective!
The foe's Garchomp fainted!

D/C.

Me: Dammit, you American, fucking suck it up.

Heh, warstories take more time to make.

P.S. Have you read about the Slender Man? That shit creeps me out! I cannot even look behind me now.

I essentially beat some Japanese dude who's at the top of the ratings.

He was using an Unova TR Team, and I killed his Erufuun with a OHKO X-Scissor from my Durant, and I Nerfed his Jellicent with my Tornadus's Taunt.

I was at 2-1, and I was about to land the finishing blow on his scrafty, but he D/Cs.
Fucking D/Cers.

Take note, I took so many losses that day, but I didn't get my deserved wins, so I was at an all time low in Doubles.
It was a match up of 1457 vs 1939.

Understandable why the ass wants to quit, but DAMN. HE'S TOP IN THE WORLD. WHERE THE FUCK IS YOUR HONOUR.

*Quits Random Ratings.*

Unfortunately, that probably is the case... I don't know if D/Cing automatically penalizes the person's score, or if it's only for D/Cing at a certain time; or, alternately, if D/Cing really works that way at all as the manual claims it does.

I have never touched the Battle Union, and I never will. It's like VR on Mario Kart Wii, if you have a high Rating, you lose more depending on how low the ranking of the winner is, in this case, not you.

The only reason I still "use" it is if nobody is on free mode (meaning I have to wait longer than 30 seconds).

I was about to win my first doubles. Someone named "soon" in Singapore D/C as the ratings were sent.

I lack a comment on the sheer hilarity/irony of the situation here, Shiny Mew2.
