This week (and only this week, hopefully!), we're building around Genesect! With access to good coverage, Download, and STAB in U-turn, Genesect has made a name for itself as a Choice Scarfed attacker that can threaten, pick off, and chip away at threats with ease. With a STAB with decent neutral coverage in Iron Head, a strong U-turn, and two coverage moves that let it pick off select threats with one of these moves pretty much always Ice Beam, Genesct can help its team by pressuring certain foes, threatening them if not KOing them into inaction. Be advised though, Choice Scarf is crucial to Genesect's success as, without it, it becomes less effective at pressuring and leaves its paltry defenses much more exposed.

Description

The building of this team initially began as a platform for Skymin, with hopes of rekindling a sentiment that has dissipated in the sumo era, namely that this thing is un-competitive (no flinch required). Endeavor Skymin (TM) acts as a pretty nifty jam to the zapdos-fini build (thought process: if skymin can survive the turn it sets up tw, it will proceed to dump on everything), and the rest of the team focuses on neutralizing the many threats the skyking sees every match.

Begin with snake core milotic and zygarde (tight duo) to deal with lando/mence and heatran/other steels that skymin doesnt appreciate. Add a little Heatran to round out the f/w/g core, and exploit the underused access to taunt to catch many an unsuspecting hoopa off guard (a spread stolen from arcticblast). Team needed more steel, mega, and flailing limbs so there was only one natural choice (a spread stolen from hashtag).

Decision time: bring lele or koko and finish this off as an ordinary, boring, undistinguished, forgettable team? or throw terrain to the wind and bring a new catalyst.. Enter AV Genesect (a set stolen from yellow paint)- "Offensively Dynamic, Surprisingly Bulky, Never Expected" AV Gene is a momentum shifter extraordinaire, and it ends up tanking many hits that it really shouldn't. Normal gene scarf assumption forces switches for skymin, who can then proceeds to seed flare drop and endeavor all over anything that it wants.

yeah, i actually have double scarf in there, so you may judge. the team is heavily reliant on mega gengar's ability to trap pokemon and get them out as fast as you can. double scarf gives a lot of flexibilty, and a heck ton of momentum, which is super nice. its also fun for them to estimate you're z move landorus since you have genesect, and then you just flat out outspeed. other than pivoting and deciding match up with mega gengar, you have tapu fini to act as a set up wincondition, especially if they set up trick room. how bad is it to run amoonguss and tapu fini as well? not so bad ! amoonguss makes this team so much better under trick room , and it protects tapu fini from the rare tapu bulu. hoopa here is fun to click trick room with after you pivoted amoongus or tapu fini in, so just have fun under trick room.

Now, I have some important things to say...

It's been a 1 year and around 11 months since I've first started this project, the idea concocted from my interest in building teams and the idea of having people compete in who can build the best team around a a given mon or set. Throughout that period, there's been a lot of minor stuff that happened, such as the removal of vote weighting, people being pissy, two or three random hiatuses (including last week's), and the like. All throughout, I've done my best to fulfill my duty to update this project every week.

However, I've just haven't been on-time on-time lately. In the far past, most I've been late is maybe an hour or two; these days, I can blatantly just be late for a day. I admit, this is particularly due to burnout, general disinterest, and simply forgetting about it lol. I haven't been a half-decent host to this project in recent days.

Thus, I'm handing the reins to talkingtree! He's been a stalwart contributor for Doubles OU, in various facets such as in C&C and TFP. There's no doubt that talkingtree's gonna do a good job picking up my slack hosting this and hopefully he brings new life to the project

Description

I've been trying bulky offense recently so I figured that would be a good way to build off TBD. Now, TBD is a pretty underrated threat on the DOU meta, which is why I'm glad I had a chance to build around it.

The main idea of this team is to give TBD a chance to shine, so I have quite a lot of support for it. On this team we have Tapu Fini to protect it against status so that it can do its thing, while Landorus-T and Mega Salamence can stack Intimidates to help keep my TBD alive; Zapdos is also pretty useful here to give TBD that extra jump in speed via Tailwind, which lets it outrun key threats such as [irrelevant Pokemon at about twice TBD's speed], non-Scarf Landorus-T and Tapu Lele, and opposing TBD. Finally, we have Ferrothorn to round out the defensive core of the team with its key Steel-typing, and with double Intimidate it's REALLY hard to get KOs on, especially with Tapu Fini and Landorus-T threatening any Heatran or other Fire-types. It's also pretty useful for getting some healing onto TBD via transferred Leech Seed, especially since TBD is probably going to be holding the Z-Crystal, which I haven't given to any other member of the team yet.

Tapu Fini and Mega Salamence can also act as alternate win conditions, boosting up for the W after the rest of my team has worn down the opponents. They have pretty good offensive and defensive synergy both which each other and TBD, so they can cover each others' threats really well both in terms of picking up KOs as well as switching in and out.

Well this is a great start to being on time - my internet died and so I was only just now able to access the web.

For my first week, the prompt to build around will be Groundium Z Landorus-T! While Landorus-T's Choice Scarf set has been the most prominent set in the meta since nearly the beginning of XY, Groundium Z takes a more power-focused approach to the ever-loved dog of the skies. With Tectonic Rage, Landorus-T becomes a much more solid answer to Aegislash and Heatran by circumventing Wide Guard and Shuca Berry, respectively, and generally does a ton of damage to other bulky threats. However, the inability to outspeed Deoxys-A, Mega Charizard Y, Mega Salamence, Tapu Koko, and others makes it difficult to justify over Choice Scarf sets on some teams.

So this team started out as an attempt to bring together double AV koko + Genesect for massive rotating power that would give tailwinded ttar the room to fuck shit up. Originally, it was alolatales > Kyube but I realized that I really wanted the oomph that Kyube can provide, and it worked better with my team. After all, I don't need more bulk here. I've switched up the ttar item several times, and while I like life orb, av or cb also both work alright, it just depends on how many aegislash are around (cb deals with aegis the least well).

Overall, I like the team synergy and feel it is a good example of bulky offense that doesn't use semiroom to compensate for slow stuff. Instead, it uses a double AV and good resists from double dragon to negate opposing offensive pressure, while positioning for its own. I really like the team and I've enjoyed using it a lot

As for other set explanations, most are fairly standard except Genesect, which is AV so that I don't feel like I'm dropping myself into a hole on a mispredicted gunk everytime, as being able to attack then switch to using uturn is very nice, and the added speed isn't terribly important. Koko is a hella bulky spread that doesn't really miss the speed and uses a lot of offensive potential from NM. Groundium is quite nice to be able to nuke things on the fly, and I use SR because I don't need more rock coverage, at least imo. I have switched that up a couple times though

This team started with Misty Zapdos + CM Fini core which really effective on the meta. Added TaunTran to block TR and TailWind (snorlax too), also as soft PsySpam check. Z-TR Zong are unaffected by Taunt, so in order to get rid that shit Groundium Lando-T added, it can OHKO Zong or ShucaTran even at -1 Atk, Tecto Rage also useful to get rid WG Aegis. Kyurem-B added as the main TailWind attacker, can threat opposing Fini, Chariz-Y, and MegaGeng. The last, i need a real PsySpam check, added Megagross to the slot and Thunder Punch is the 3rd move for Chariz-Y.

Explanation

Mega-Beedrill. Fast, hits ridiculously hard, counters all non-scarfed Tapus, U-turns before suffering damage.

Fini+Misty Dos is the standard set, pretty self-explanatory. I chose Haze over CM because I absolutely hate going up against setup. Zapdos outspeeds Heatran by a tad to increase chances of single target Heat Wave.

Scarf-Sect. I chose Iron Head over Gunk Shot because I already have Beedrill and Iron Head has 0 chance of missing. Flamethrower is nice to kill opposing Genesects and ferrothorns.

Landorus-T has Knock off because I hate Snorlax and I don't need 3 U-turn users. Groundium-Z fits well here because nothing on my team really likes sitting next to EQ aside from Zapdos.

Heatran is there because I needed a steel type and a second fire resist. Speed is to outspeed Scarf-Sect under TW. Flash Cannon is a nice third move on Heatran imo.

• As said above, I wanted to support lax offensively, so groundium-z lando-t was a pretty good start in general, as it helps lax by providing the extra "Oomph" factor by providing a nuke to assist it in it's sweep. Max speed is preferred to outspeed jolly heatran which otherwise could be an issue for the team and it's always nice to outspeed stuff like kingdra out of rain.
  Also landorus helps in checking tyranitar for the rest of the team. Other than that it contains knock off for opposing snorlaxes since imo u-turn isn't a necessity on non-choiced sets.
• Next up for double intimidate support I went the big dragon for a secondary win-con and in general check various fighting types for snorlax( I shamelessly stole the EV set from level 51). Mega-mence has really good synergy with fini, both being able to pivot in and out of attacks which threaten each other in general.
• Next up while landorus and mega-mence were able to stack up intimidates the team still needed a solid backbone so as a result the infamous combo fini of and zapdos was chosen. With Zapdos being able to provide some much needed speed control and since the team has already 2 win-cons, fini contains swagger allowing snorlax to be immediately much more threatening even with just 1 curse and negating intimidates to an extent.
• Finally since mega-metagross was looking really threatening and so did psychic spam to an extent, I finally added scarf-tini to cover some holes in the team offensively maintaining the initial theme, it obviously contains final gambit again assisting by taking down something which could really threaten a snorlax sweep.
• Btw lax has frustration over return coz fuck mew.

• Groundium Z landorus is the pokemon of the week, offers a nice way around wide guard and eats shuca berry as was mentioned in the intro. i put superpower because fighting type it's less seen incoming, and u turn is good because landorus is still a good pivot, and you want to hit hoopa-u
• Tapu Koko was almost directly added after landrorus because it takes out pokemon that wall it like tapu fini, celesteela, zapdos, which makes the way easier for landorus. its also super interesting to have a voltturn core
• Speaking of that, I figured gengar mega was amazing at abusing two pivots, since it makes dictating match up much easier. taunt is an attempt to neutralize set up, and prevent trickroom/tailwind since we lack speed control so far. you can also use ground move with gengar on the field thanks to z crystal !
• volcarona was added here after noticing a major ferrothorn weakness (weird) , and a fire type is generally nice in a heavy steel type meta, provided i already have 2 landorus checks in tapu fini and my own landorus to protect volcarona. gengar pairs well since if its a good match up, you can pivot into volcarona on a passive opponent like a celesteela for example, and set up
• tapu fini is here because i am low on landorus checks and very heatran weak. it also carries set up to abuse gengar mega further
• ferrothorn is here because i wanted a good defensive backbone, and something to switch in when i want to take a hit. ferrothorn also hits that f/w/g core too, and is fast undertrick room should i fail to prevent it from being set
