DP"P OverUsed
another Metagame remade by yours truly, Zer0
Pokemon Platinum was released on September 20th 2008 and with it came Platinum OU, or basically the Platinum era of DPP OU as most players would like to call it. Platinum gifted us several huge metagame changes, the most notably of these were Scizor getting Bullet Punch and Salamence getting Outrage which turned them into complete metagame forces and it would go on to define their competitive history, other metagame changes in addition to these included the Rotom appliances being added, which became superb Pokemon in their own right for the entirety of DPP OU. This era also had Latias unbanned as well which significantly impacted the OU landscape for the time it was allowed alongside Salamence and together they made for an extremely powerful duo as a whole, able to significantly cut through most of the tier through brute force alone. Platinum truly was a very unique metagame as a whole since it was pretty much Scizor's land due to how incredible it was at checking so much of the Metagame and being arguably the only reliable revenge killers that could do pretty much anything on a team such as scouting with U-turn and Pursuit trapping dangerous Pokemon such as Gengar and Latias, and this in conjunction with how greatly Salamence and Latias tore things up truly made Platinum a one of a kind since no other metagame had this nearly on the same level as what Platinum had. The Platinum era of OU would go on to get played on Shoddy Battle and last from September 20th, 2008 to September 12th, 2009 and while HGSS was pretty much the same in terms of mons; in terms of movepool changes and how some mons would eventually end up getting banned it was not the same, example can include Dragonite gaining Extreme Speed in HGSS but not in Platinum. So with all of that being said a lot of people that played during when DPP was CG still sometimes remanence over the Platinum era of OU or the fact that it is pretty much lost media and it seems that most of the battles from that era are completely lost to time, barring going very deep on Youtube to find the battles. Well today, i decided that since i made BW1 OU(a metagame revolving around Gen5 OU before BW2 came out, go check it out here if you're interested) i wanted to pay my respects to the DPP OU playerbase and went on a mission to revive DP"P" OU, or what i would like to call it: Platinum OU, but instead will focus on everything post skymin ban(such as the dragons metagame basically becoming present again) as opposed to Day1 of Platinums release. So without further adieu, after almost 16 years since Platinum was released i would like to present: DP"P OverUsed! The rest of the post below will include all the resources to the metagame, such as including: the discord link, how YOU can play this metagame today, the many changes in comparison to DPP OU(be they drastic or small), and etc!

Unbans to this Metagame from DPP OU and Drastic Movepool Changes:
First, the Unbans to the metagame, keep in mind that these will all perhaps stay as they let this metagame stand out compared to modern DPP OU and it would ruin what this metagame's purpose is but some of these unbans can potentially be relooked at if they pose an extreme problem:
Salamence Unbanned
As expected from what this metagame is, Salamence has been unbanned. Salamence was once deemed too good from Gen4 OU before getting banned in HGSS but since this metagame was based around Pokemon Platinum; theres no reason to not leave it banned at all. Pretty self explanatory as dpp mence doesnt need no introduction, but Salamence is perhaps one of the most dangerous Pokemon in the metagame thanks to its insane power when backed by Life Orb as well as its decent base 100 speed that is the standard benchmark for most DPP OU Pokemon such as Zapdos and Jirachi, making it arguably the best DD sweeper in the entire tier as well as doubling as one of the best Mixed Attackers in the metagame. However, Its newfound access to Outrage takes Salamence to a whole new level as its completely astonishing how insane it is with such a move since its able to crush just about anything with it that isnt a steel-type or Bold Suicune. Both DD and Mixed Salamence are definitely something to watch out for in this metagame and Salamence as a whole is truly a force to be reckon with in DPP OU.
Latias Unbanned
While Latias had already been unbanned from DPP OU it wasnt unbanned alongside Salamence in current DPP OU. With that being said, Latias is pretty much the same Pokemon just its unbanned alongside Salamence which basically means that the Dragons metagame as most DPP OU players knew it as is now in the spotlight again, making Latias arguably slightly stronger in this metagame due to Mence being legal alongside it.
Arena Trap Unbanned
Arena Trap is also unbanned since Dugtrio was OU when Platinum first was released and Arena Trap itself didnt get banned until years after Gen4 ended as CG. This will give Dugtrio a place in the tier again since it can trap some of the best Pokemon in the metagame such as Jirachi, Heatran, Tyranitar, and Metagross most notably; but it can also remove other threats such as Breloom, Infernape, Starmie, and even Gengar, among many others. Unfortunately Dugtrio will have a significantly tougher time; because how common Scizor will end up being and giving a free turn to Salamence if Dugtrio is locked into Earthquake is far more dangerous than giving a free turn to Dragonite if it locks into Earthquake. But all things considered, Dugtrio is still a good Pokemon in this metagame due to its potency at trapping some of the best Pokemon in the metagame for its Teammates to take advantage off.
Froslass Unbanned
Instead of keeping Snow Cloak banned in its entirety, Froslass has instead been unbanned just because outside of hail teams its a very unique lead and contributes so well to the lead Metagame. Yes, it can run sub sets on hail for Snow Cloak cheese but hail can be contested with Tyranitar and Froslass outside of hail is genuinely a legitimate Pokemon that contributes incredibly well to the lead metagame of DPP OU. it can also run Trick Scarf to great effect too alongside classic Focus Sash which lets it also match up pretty well into faster leads such as Azelf and Aerodactlyl Ofc it can be dumb to face on Hail teams with Substitute sets, but as established in this post Froslass is genuinely very unique at what it does as a lead and it contributes incredibly well to how the Lead metagame of DPP OU is played that it outweighs this drawback and is worthy of being unbanned.
Deoxys-S and Skymin remain banned
Originally these 2 were unbanned once this format was remade, but after realizing that Latias wasnt unbanned when these two were running around and how some people already have had thoughts about them going it is no surprise that they've been banned from here as well and they're pretty much self explanatory on why they're banned. However, maybe one day we will relook on this and discuss on if we should go back to having these 2(or even just one of them) around or if they should stay banned, and ofc we might host some fun tours with them running around
and now, the movepool changes:
Many changes will include multiple movepool changes thanks to these changes not being released until HGSS, below will showcase all of the notable movepool changes for most of the Pokemon in the metagame
: Sky Attack; Kinda note worthy considering that Aero would occasionally run Sky Attack + Power Herb despite it not being common
: Head Smash; just use rhyperior lol
: Nasty Plot; even tho bi is kinda irrelevant, its still noted that it losing Nasty Plot is a huge blow to offensive sets
: Head Smash; Still decent, but losing head smash is significant as it can no longer threaten ghost with huge damage
: Extreme Speed; Dnite is pretty much irrelevant in the land of Salamence without Extreme Speed considering that it was its one true advantage it had over Salamence. Its not that dnites a bad pokemon at all, but Mence just does everything better since it has the same moves but way more faster and stronger + Intimidates a better ability than Inner Focus, Without extreme speed then dnite cant really compete in this metagame, but maybe we can see them pair up together on certain teams.
: Aqua Jet; this is somewhat relevant enough to put it on this list, but no aqua jet means that gatr doesnt have a true concrete niche in the meta. Just run Gyarados most of the time honestly.
: Pain Split; again, another semi relevant change but no Pain Split means that Forretress doesnt have any source of recovery outside of leftovers
: Pain Split; this ones generally much more huge compare to Forretress because losing Pain Split means that SubSplit Gengar is pretty much dead. Still a great pokemon tho despite losing Pain Split, it just cant reek havoc with such a set anymore
: Sky Attack; this is relevant enough since it runs Sky Attack sometimes on SD sets in DPP OU.
: Heal Bell; for the people that wanted to tech Heal Bell Jolteon in this metagame
: Extreme Speed, Aura Sphere; insanely huge change as this means lead Raikou is pretty much dead and now it cant even destroy Tyranitar at al anymore. CM sets are prolly still good tho since those sets dont get affected that much by these movepool changes
: Bug Bite; significant change as this means scizor cant really run Bug Bite on sd sets anymore even tho most of the time its prolly gonna run band, however X-Scissor will probably still be a good alternative if Scizor wants to run a Bug STAB on SD sets.
: Heal Bell; Same as Jolteon
: Heal Bell; Same as Jolteon
: Super Fang; not as relevant since Walrein isnt common at all but Stallrein cant run super fang anymore
: Low Kick; still has Brick Break, but it isnt the same as Low Kick due to Low Kick having more power against bulkier targets such as Heatran, who it can no longer 2HKO thanks to the huge power drop off between the 2 moves.
Ending conclusion:
Despite this metagame being a bit chaotic to say the least its still very unique and fun considering that current dpp ou does NOT have any of these changes at all(especially the unbanning of Salamence and Latias together) and with that i wanna once again thank everyone who took the time out to read in addition to checking out this OM, this has been a long time coming considering that DPP OU hasnt been CG in almost 15 years and im glad i was able to do this and pay my respects to the DPP OU Playerbase.
