DP Research Thread #4 ("Newer still")

Sand Attack rules out a +2 accuracy change. We still need to test Double Team to check -2 evasion.

OK, using CardoftheHearts damage calculator,

If Muscle Band activated, it would do between 51-60 damage.

If it didn't, it would be between 46-55.

Ergo, Muscle Band does in fact activate when confused. (No need to do any more tests)

You might not need to for items that affect the actual Attack stat, but does Life Orb trigger it? I think I tested it without any actual concrete data as to what I should have gotten. What's the Base Power of hurting yourself in confusion?

Thanks Chris for that.

Simple: Does Simple give an increased effect of Focus energy?
For this test, I shall be using my Numel with Simple, against the Fisherman with 6 Magikarp. I shall repeat the test over either 60, 80, or 100 times, or more (depending on how accurate the result is). I shall be using Focus Energy once, then attacking. If Simple is activated, there will be a 25% crit rate, if not, a 12.5% crit rate. This is why I chose 60, 80, or 100.

Results:
"x" stands for "normal" hit.
"c" stands for critical hit.
"," shall divide my attacks.

x,x,x,x,x,c,x,x,x,x,
x,x,x,c,x,x,x,x,x,c,
x,c,x,x,c,x,x,x,x,c,
c,x,x,x,x,x,x,x,x,x,
x,x,x,x,x,x,x,c,x,x,
x,x,x,x,x,x,x,x,c,x.

Should the critical hit rate be 12.5%, I would expect 7.5/60 (or, 15/120) attacks to be a critical hit.
Should the critical hit rate be 25%, I would expect 15/60 (or, 30/120 in comparison to above) attacks to be a critical hit.

I had 9/60 attacks as a critical hit. I (personally) think it is pretty safe to conclude Simple does not give an increased effect of Focus Energy. Do you guys think I need to run more tests?

Uh, Twash Man, Focus Energy raises the crit rate 2 stages, so Simple would double the resulting 25% crit rate to 50%. Crit stages I think are 1/16 1/8 1/4 1/3 1/2. So... Yeah, that's even less in favor of Simple increasing Focus Energy's crit rate, which makes sense as Simple doesn't increase the stages added, but rather the effect at each stage.

Ugh..I set this out after speaking with Obi via Shoddy, and I planned it and must of screwed up ._.

Still, it means it was either a 50% crit chance or a 25% crit chance then..? :\

Which is wierd, as 9/60 isn't really close to 15/60..

I think that it's still a good enough test. It also makes sense since (as far as I know) it doesn't power up Punishment and doesnt have the same noise and animation as when the other stats raise a level.

I remember once testing on shoddy icicle spear skill link cloyster vs yachegarchomp, but to my surprise the yache berry activated AFTER all 5 hits and of course failed to kill. does anyone have a way of testing this ingame? or is it already confirmed to be correct on shoddy?

edit: embarassed!

I have a question.

If you Baton Pass a Substitute from Togekiss to Jolteon (for example) will Jolteon be Poisoned by Toxic Spikes? On Shoddy it still poisons, but I think it might be different ingame

Not sure if Obi noticed this..I posted it in August;
Here's Intimidate:
I go in an in-game battle against a fisherman
I send in Cresselia
He sends in Gyarados1
Cresselia uses Mist
Gyarados does x
Cresselia uses Charge Beam
Gyarados2 comes in and this message appears "protected by the Mist"

So, Mist blocks Intimidate.

And here're Heart Swap, Power Swap and Guard Swap:
In-game double battle(s) (summed)
A- Heart Swap
Cresselia and Manaphy (-2Sp.D)
Cresselia uses Mist
Manaphy uses Heart Swap and it works
B- Power Swap
Cresselia and Mr. Mime (-2Atk)
Cresselia uses Mist
Mr. Mime uses Power Swap and it works
C- Guard Swap
Cresselia and Mr. Mime (-2Sp.D)
Cresselia uses Mist
Mr. Mime uses Guard Swap and it works

Therefore, Mist does not block Heart Swap/Power Swap/Guard Swap.

In-game double battle with Rest Early Bird Kangaskhan and Skill Swap Mew
[1-Early Bird lost]X (wasting turn in order for Kangaskhan to get damaged)
Mew uses x
Kangaskhan uses Rest
Foes do x
Mew uses Skill Swap
Kangaskhan is fast asleep (turn #1 sleeping)
Foes do x
Mew uses x
Kangaskhan if fast asleep (turn #2 turn sleeping)
When Early Bird is lost the remaining sleeping turns are doubled (0.5*2=1). In this case when Kangaskhan lost Early Bird it had to sleep the regular 2 turns of Rest.
[2-Early Bird gained]
Foes do x
Mew uses x
Kangaskhan uses Rest
Mew uses Skill Swap (Kangaskhan has Synchronize because of previous SS)
Kangaskhan is fast asleep (turn #1sleeping)
Foes do x
Mew uses x
Kangaskhan wakes up
When Early Bird is gained the remaining turns is cut by half and rounded down (2/2=1 or if Skill Swapped after turn 1 -> 1/2= 0.5 rounded down=0). In this case when Kangaskhan regained Early Bird it slept only one turn after using Rest.

Updated first post.

I didn't include the Early Bird information because sleep is only calculated at "fast asleep" messages. I'll need some time to consider exactly how to test this.

For the Wonder Guard test: it's probably easiest to just hit Shedinja if the move isn't Dark, Fighting, Fire, Flying, Ghost, Normal, or Rock. Put another way, you can test any Bug, Dragon, Electric, Grass, Ground, Ice, Poison, Psychic, Steel, or Water attack on Shedinja.

Can someone do a quick and easy test for me: use Night Shade on Shedinja.

[12:13am] RB-Golbat : Stellar: could you test to see if Fire Fang hits a Wondertomb [in platinum]?
[12:13am] Stellar: let me finish seeing what magmortar gets and then I will
[12:18am] Stellar: ok have wondertomb. let me engage the pachirusu twins in battle.
[12:23am] Stellar: stupid twins do not want to battle
[12:25am] Stellar: ugh this mence has fire blast and not fire fang
[12:30am] Stellar: ok now that my tropius knows fire fang I can test this
[12:32am] Stellar: ok fly doesnt hit spiritomb so that means It does have wonderguard
[12:32am] Stellar: fire fang DOES hit spiritomb

Obviously (and I have no idea why) Nintendo did NOT fix that glitch

also, an interesting question I found on another forum

"Speaking of Giratina-O, what happens when it gets the Platinum Orb Tricked or Knocked Off, anyway? Does it revert back instantly? I know Arceus has a Sticky Hold effect to prevent that from happening..."

Encore: Lasts 4-8 turns. Is this an even distribution chance (as in 4, 5, 6, 7, and 8 turns all have equal probabilities)?

Pokémon used:
Lv28 Slakoth @ Lagging Tail: Encore, Slack Off, Amnesia

Who better than Slakoth to waste turns waiting for Encore to end? I took her out to Route 201 to test against the Bidoofs and Starlies there. Their weak, high PP attacks make them convenient for Encoring multiple times.

The first Encore, as an example:
Slakoth Vs. Lv3 Wild Starly
Round 1: Starly Tackles, Slakoth uses Encore.
Round 2: Starly Tackles, Slakoth loafs.
Round 3: Starly Tackles, Slakoth uses Amnesia.
Round 4: Starly Tackles, Slakoth loafs.
Round 5: Starly Tackles, Slakoth uses Amnesia.
Round 6: Starly Tackles, Slakoth loafs.
Round 7: Starly Tackles, Slakoth uses Amnesia, Starly's Encore ends after 7 turns.

It'll be interesting to see how the next hundred Encores go.

5 Platinum Questions I have:

1) What happens when you use Knock Off on Origintina?
2) What happens when you use Trick/Covet/Snatch on Origintina? ( I thought I heard somewhere only Giratina can hold the platinum orb)
3) When you Freeze a skymin, will it revert to land form? (low level blissey w/ Serene Grace using Ice Beam on High Level Skymin)
4) What happens when you remove a special move from Rotom? (i.e. Can you have a Heat Rotom that does not know Overheat, I see it as a way of playing mindgames with people)
From my testing it seems that you cannot transform if you do not accept the special move. But I went to the move deleter and was allowed to delete the move.
5) Diamond/Pearl vs. Platinum. If Diamond uses Hypnosis, what is the chance it works? If Platinum uses Hypnosis, what is the chance it works?

1) What happens when you use Knock Off on Origintina?
Nothing. The attack hits, but the item is not Knocked Off. Similiar to Arceus' Sticky Hold type effect.

2) What happens when you use Trick/Covet/Snatch on Origintina?
The move fails. In the case of Thief and Covet, the item cannot be stolen. Snatch does not still items so that has no bearing on the matter.

Giratina (with Trick hacked onto it) cannot Trick the orb onto another Pokemon either.

It is also worthy to note that Giratina is the only Pokemon capable of holding the Platinum Orb. Giratina MUST be holding the orb in order to be in Origin forme.

Giratina cannot be forced to transform back into "Another Forme" during battle.

Continuing with the Encore test, here are the durations of 200 additional uses of Encore:

6,6,4,7,7,4,4,7,7,7
4,7,7,6,5,6,4,4,7,7
I'll combine this new data with the 15 Encores from Metal Force and the 100 Encores from my previous post to see how we're doing so far.

Totals after 315 Encores:
4: 53 (16.8%)
5: 58 (18.4%)
6: 79 (25.1%)
7: 64 (20.3%)
8: 61 (19.4%)

6) (got this from another forum) What happens if you change Rotom's form when it only has its special move? (i.e. Cut Forme knows only Leaf Storm, then is changed back to "normal" form)

The move fails. In the case of Thief and Covet, the item cannot be stolen. Snatch does not still items so that has no bearing on the matter.

I have no idea why i said snatch......
