Old Gens DPP Metagross

Metagross @ Iron Ball
Ability: Clear Body
EVs: 252 HP / 96 Atk / 140 SpD / 20 Spe
Adamant Nature
- Meteor Mash
- Earthquake
- Trick
- Explosion

Think of the best DPP Metagross checks. Do Skarmory, bulky Rotom and Zapdos, and Bronzong sound about right? What if there were a way to nullify their Ground-type immunity and thus make them weak to Earthquake? Enter Trick Iron Ball Metagross. Most of this set is standard: Meteor Mash and Earthquake is the standard offense combination on most Metagross sets, while Explosion breaks through pesky walls. But then there's Trick. Not only does Iron Ball halve the Speed of the holder and eliminate its Ground immunity, but Trick can obtain a useful item for Metagross, like Leftovers while taking it away from something that might normally check Metagross, like Swampert or Starmie. Additionally, Trick makes Metagross a prime absorber of Trick from the likes of Latias, as it can then just send away an unwanted item. Partners that appreciate Metagross's Trick include Dragon Dance Tyranitar, Scarf Flygon, and Swampert––threatening attackers that can best break through a team whose wall is slowed by Iron Ball and without Leftovers. The EV spread enables Metagross to take on Latias and Jirachi while still packing a mighty punch with an Adamant nature.

- Spend more time talking about Trick; not only it can turn the table vs some of his best checks (Skarmory, Rotom) but it also gives Meta more longevity by (usually) receiving Leftovers from its targets

- Kingdra is a weird example, Starmie or even Swampert would be more relevant since you take away its leftovers which means it's on a timer for the rest of the game (and has a tougher time switching into repeated attacks)

- I would talk about some teammates that always appreciate Trick Meta's support; Swampert, DD Tar, Scarf Flygon among others are great ones

- Maybe mention how Trick can shutdown some sweeping attempts if needed, and how Trick Meta makes up for a great Trick absorber

- the EV spread is mostly arbitrary; it ensures that Meta has the bulk to take on Jirachi and Latias, but it basically takes on a lot if healthy enough. Adamant and those EVs hits a bonus point and make sure Metagross still hits hard enough vs the likes of defensive Latias, Clefable and Jirachi

should be 1/1 afterwards unless i forgot something
