E3 2009 Conferences Thread

Nintendo wins E3. That is all.

Okay objectively speaking I guess Microsoft had a better show but I don't give a shit. I'll post up coherent thoughts tonight. But my internet died and when the stream started again it was on Metroid so I'm still dazed.

I thought Nintendo's conference was pretty lame for the most part. It was really bad until they announced SMG2 and the new Metriod game. I was pretty much ready to turn off the stream when Iwata introduced the vitality sensor

nintendo show some primo stuff. 4 player mario side scroller, mario galaxy 2, womens muder club, metroid m, golden sun, style savy. its gonna be a great year.

it feels great.

golden sun bitches. that is all.

i want my hard 3d zelda though, but I knew that wasnt coming.

I'm actually really fucking pumped for SMG 2, I'm sure you can all imagine me squealing with delight at seeing Mario and Yoshi working together in a 3D game again.

Here's hoping it's not fucked up like in Sunshine where Yoshi couldn't swim and you had to continuously eat fruit to stay alive. Oh yeah and you could only use Yoshi on certain levels. Yoshi goes everywhere goddamnit.

Oh yeah and Other M looks fucking fantastic. I had a feeling it was gonna be one badass game once Team Ninja stepped into the limelight, oh ho ho ho

While not as good as Microsofts, Nintendo DID have a better year than last year by a wide margin. Glad to see they haven't forgotten about us.

so, i didnt see this, is this golden sun 2 or a remake of the original golden sun by the ds? ?_? i really wouldnt put it past them

There are two Golden Sun games currently. (Golden Sun (1) and Golden Sun: the Lost Age (2)) This would be a new game (the third in the series).

they had me at golden sun ds
then they brought out new super mario bros. wii
i forgive you for last year and your damn "music", nintendo

is it just me or did they not mention the release date for sin & punishment 2? :(

I haven't watched every conference, but I heard about all the major ones. No clear winner, in my opinion. Each conference had it's ups and downs.

Microsoft definitely had a lot of games to show off, such as MGS: Rising (Although it's not the kind of MGS Sony has, it still makes the Sony fanboys cry their eyes out because they lost one of their once beloved exclusives). Project Natal definitely seems like a plus. Left 4 Dead 2 seems like a bust, it should of been DLC on the original L4D, definitely not a good idea. (Don't get me wrong, I LOVED the original L4D). Crackdown 2, Splinter Cell: Conviction and Alan Wake (About fucking time, Microsoft) are some big exlusives aswell that are added to the 360. Also, new Halo games. Hooray.

EA had a good conference too, from what I seen. I'm not too big into the EA Sports franchises, but APB and Old Republic MMOs seem pretty fucking amazing, especially the Old Republic trailer. Two of them have the potential to be WoW killers. Crysis 2 is gonna be great, too. The Saboteur seems like it has potential, but the theme has been done to death, and I can see it having some flaws when the final copy is released. I wasn't too much into Mass Effect, but I'll probably pick up the sequel to it.

By the way, BRUTAL LEGENDS.

Also, first post for me.

MGS:Rising is multiplatform haha.

Nintendos conference was pretty good. It started out bad, got good around GS3, by the time they announced Metroid I though it may be the greatest E3 confrence ever... and then they just ended it.

Didn't bother watching Sony's. FF7 coming out today is awesome, but everything else I've heard was boring or retarded(I'm looking at you FFXIV)

Eh, I probably won't even play MGS on the 360, I just love it because of the fact that Sony fanboys bitch and moan about it.

Also, I love how Microsoft and Sony fanboys bash Wii's innovative Wiimote and the sensor and all that shit, but once Microsoft and Sony get theirs, they stop bashing it and start praising it.

Hell, Project Natal costs a hefty $200, I'm not shelling out that money for something I have on my Wii.

Someone on another board mentioned that the advantage of natal over the wiimote is that the 360 will still have games that use the standard controller, the motion sensoring ones will be optional(this person hates the wiimote btw). It's a legitimate point, but at $200 it's a little hard to stomach. I'm not a big MGS fan so that announcement didn't really affect me either way. I'd probably love the series if I didn't have to stop playing every half-hour to watch some unnecesarrily long cut-scene.

Not all the Wii games use the motion sensoring controller, most, if not all, can be used with a Gamecube controller, which I use for Brawl. Super Paper Mario uses the Wiimote as an old school NES controller, too. Also, I always wanted to play the whole MGS series as a whole and not just start at the beginning, but it'll be a waste to buy the PS3 just for MGS4.

Other M = M + other = Mother Brain

yay metroid

edit:
Any Objections, Lady! (that has to be Adam)
HOLY CRAP PREQUEL
i dig the 2d-1st person stuff; shinespark is in there too
wow, cool

I was a little disappointed with the E3 Sony/Nintendo conferences.

I enjoyed some bits of the Nintendo conference, the early on multiplayer Mario game seemed to be good, and the RPG DS Mario didn't look bad either. Many other games seemed to be good, but most of the DS Trailers were pretty bad.

The Sony conference disappointed the most, besides God of War 3 (ETA: 2010) and Uncharted 2: Among Thieves (ETA: fall of 2009) which showed great graphics and overall good gameplay (great for Among Thieves - and as for the people who were on #smogon watching it, the AI seemed weak but it was probably intentional to maximize gameplay longevity without too much effort and show the best the game can bring), most of the games disappointed. I didn't really care about Gran Turismo 5 and it got mentioned twice, PSP and PS3. The motion controller left me speechless...

There were bad moments for both conferences like Nintendo's Style Savvy or Sony's motion controller that just seemed to be a huge Wii ripoff (until it actually surprised me when the bow and arrow game seemed a lot better than the Wii's), but overall they were fun to watch and help me keep updated with the gaming era that has been advancing ever so fast!

I was extremely disappointed in lack of a new Elder Scrolls game, but I guess Bethesda is working on the new Fallout game. In my opinion, they should keep adding DLC to Fallout and work on a new Elder Scrolls game. Oblivion was great, but Morrowind was greater.
