E3 2009 Conferences Thread

What the hell? Project Natal doesn't have a price last I checked. Microsoft isn't retarded enough to make a $200 accessory.
Edit: All signs point to Bethesda working on the next Elder Scrolls. The original creators of Fallout are working on Fallout Vegas.

I'm 90% sure they announced it's going to be a $200 price tag. Also, I knew that Bethesda published/developed Fallout 3, and I would of assumed they would do the same for Vegas, but according to Wikipedia, Obsidian Entertainment is developing Fallout Vegas.

It seems that the pricing might have been revealed early by Brier Dudley at The Seattle Times. His post, which went up 45 minutes before the press conference, states that the price will be around $200. Who knows where the number came from so we’re labeling this one as a rumor for now.

I know it's a rumor, but it's something to keep in mind, no?

Also, that's not the only place I heard the $200 rumor. I could of swore I heard it at E3, or other places aswell.
 
You're going off a number that some guy made up. I can make up numbers too. It'll cost $39.99 and come packed in with every copy of Imagine: Haloz. Not only that, all current owners of Haloz will get a free one through a mail in rebate.

And yeah Obsidian's the name. I was too lazy to look it up. I never played Fallout, I just knew the original creators were working on Vegas.
 
I know it's a rumor, but realistically, how much do you think Microsoft is going to sell it for? It'll most likely be packed in with Milo, which Molyneux showed off at E3 (Or somewhere). At the very least, it'll be sold for $100 in my opinion. It's new, it's trendy (Controllers? Fuck them), and it's hyped up.

Besides, I'm probably not gonna buy it anyway. I can see alot of future problems with it. Sure it'll work with games for the Wii like Wii Fit and whatnot, but for FPS games on the 360? You're getting shot from behind, what are you supposed to do, turn around and face away from the TV?

  • Holy crap prequel? Samus before the suit!
  • Samus in civilization... Though it kind ruins the atmosphere of the Metroid franchise, it's kinda nice knowing she isn't the only human-life form...
  • Uhhmm no more silent protagonist?!
  • Other M could refer to 'Mother' or, at the end of the trailer Samus says 'I'm Samus Aran' to a blonde lady in a labcoat who looks kinda like her... Possible clone story?
  • You can switch between 1st person and 3rd person? Is it generally side scrolling?

Well miyamoto plans to announce a new wii zelda next year with an older link then ever. That's something to look it forward to, though we probably won't see it until mid 2011. Also, is anyone else interested in the new Final Fantasy for wii? It looks interesting, though we've seen very little.
 
It'll be interesting to see where it falls in the story to be sure. If you haven't read it yet, I'd recommend checking out the Metroid manga. Won't link it here, but it should be easy enough to find. It never came out in English by a group was nice enough to do a translation of the entire thing. It cover Samus' life from childhood to Zero Mission.
 
I'm very excited about this Metroid, but what i'm really hyped about from Nintendo conference is the new Golden Sun, i'm one of the many that was expecting a new game of this franchise! Now the speculation begins, it's a sequel or a prequel?

Oh right, Super Mario Galaxy 2 looks sweet, and Yoshi <3.

Well, this might finally force me to get a Wii. I have been to lazy (and broke) to get one even when great titles like Metroid Prime Corruption, No More Heroes, Super Mario Galaxy and Super Smash Bros. Brawl came out. However, the reveal of Metroid: Other M had me just wanting to pick up a copy and wreck shit up, and I'm obviously not even a Nintendo fanboy as I don't even have a Wii yet.

Assassin's Creed II looks good too. Can't wait.
 
Nintendo had the most memorable lineup, but that might be because their franchises are my favourites. It was an amazing comeback after last year's snoozefest. Not that they could lose following up Ubisoft's disgusting show. Kicking the show off with New Super Mario Bros. Wii was a good way to show us they were serious. However, the show was horribly paced. So bad. Ugh. They went from amazing to shit back to amazing so many times. They had no real momentum going. Golden Sun DS and Metroid: Another M were my favourite announcments by far. Metroid was the perfect way to go out. Amazing. I agree with Penny Arcade's comic

Sony's conference was also their best showing since before 2006. Some good hard hitting games, but why oh why oh why did they talk about sales. You are SONY. You are in THIRD place. Fucking WII FIT outsold your console. For the love of god, do not talk sales. Microsoft didn't talk sales. Not even Nintendo talked about sales (really surprising srsly). Stop talking about sales. Anyhoo, as for actual games, Metal Gear Solid Peace Walker looks so hot I can't even describe it. Oh my gawd. Big Boss is back. PSP Go is lol at $250. Good luck with that. Great to know that all their games are going digital as well though. I'll buy some games if they're cheaper and I can download them straight to memory card. If not cheaper... well then I'll just buy the UMD and drag it into my memory card with Custom Firmware. Final Fantasy XIV was hilarious. What a way to let people down. Final Fantasy XIII crazy trailer, tell us "Hey guys, FFXIV is also coming and it's exclusive AND HERE'S A TRAILER!" then at the end show a logo that says "Final Fantasy XIV Online". Ouch. Hundreds of thousands of Final Fantasy fans cutting themselves at once. Not to mention they use exclusive like Microsoft does... FFXIV is PC + PS3 for sure. Their waggle wand is a joke. I'm sorry but that is just Wii Motion with a webcam. Did not need to see a glowing dildo for however long that was. Project Natal's demo was bad, but it looked nice at least. This just seemed even more tech demo-y than that. Meh. I'm tired of motion control announcements. That boat has sailed folks. Microsoft and Sony can catch up next generation.

As far as nintendo goes I wished for another console zelda, but I got a great line up. I have to find a way to buy Mario Galaxy 2 the new Mario and Luigi Saga game Metriod the other M and as an obligation I need the buy Zelda Spirit Tracks or whatever. However Sony (Surprisingly) has also caught my attention. Peace Walker looks amazing despite being on a handheld (And having a name that suggests an Old Snake spin off with him use a Walker XD) MAG looks cool, and well as the game made by the Shadow of the Colosuess team. By the way I was getting kind of confused, is that game a sequel? what is the game that comes inbetween (I heard something about it being third). I'm not a FF fan so the rest of the conference was really just shaking my head at Sony for out right copying Nintendo. At least 360's was a alot more original. Sony didn't bring anything new to the concept of motion play.

it's obviously a prequel because adam is in it
it looks like a 2.5d game, i guess it goes to 1st person for special parts, at which point it would be point and shoot
and the black guy looks like the hunter that's dead right before kraid's room in SM

A large portion of that game was not 2.5D at all. A lot of it looked like a third person 3D game. Some parts went to 1st person, maybe like Zelda where you are trying to aim and shoot manually?

We knew this game was a joint effort because of the opening which said Team Ninja + Nintendo and the end which says "Co-developed by Nintendo" in the copyright area, but I was listening to last night's Listen Up podcast by 1UP and apparently they did some probing to find out more. The teams working on it are the Ninja Gaiden Sigma team + Nintendo R&D1. R&D1 is a core team to Nintendo and the one that created the original Metroid. Who knows who's still there, but this is very promising.

I haven't really had time to look at much else but from the trailer SMG2 looks absolutely amazing. Locking on to enemies with Yoshi's tongue actually sounds like a really cool gameplay mechanic and assuming it has the same consistent good quality as the first one, it'll be a game to get excited about for sure.
 
Square Enix conference was a trap. It was actually a Final Fantasy XIV Q&A Session with the worst questions and answers ever. Konami conference is on now and Kojima is announcing TWO more projects.

Holy shit.
I had played all the big titles at E3. Private showings of God of War III, Heavy Rain, Alan Wake. But at 4:00 on Thursday, I was wondering around the show floor, wondering what else I had to see. I saw a small little booth for "Scribblenauts!" in the Warner Bros. Interactive Entertainment section. I mean, who goes to that booth? But I remember hearing about it on GAF, and so I decided to check it out.

Best game of E3? Without a fucking doubt. Anyone who says otherwise did not play Scribblenauts. Best game of all time? Jesus Christ, I don't know, maybe. It's a game that challenges your IMAGINATION. No other game has ever done that.

So listen to this story. I was in the early levels; I didn't quite have an idea of how ridiculously in-depth the database was. I was summoning things like ladders, glasses of water, rayguns, what have you. But I reached a level with zombie robots, and the zombie robots kept killing me. Rayguns didn't work, a torch didn't work, a pickaxe didn't work. In my frustration, I wrote in "Time Machine". And one popped up. What the fuck? A smile dawned on my face. I hopped in, and the option was given to me to either travel to the past or the future. I chose past. When I hopped out, there were fucking dinosaurs walking around. I clicked one, and realized I could RIDE THEM. So I hopped on a fucking DINOSAUR, traveled back to the present, and stomped the shit out of robot zombies. Did you just read that sentence? Did you really? I FUCKING TRAVELED THROUGH TIME AND JUMPED ON A DINOSAUR AND USED IT TO KILL MOTHERFUCKING ROBOT ZOMBIES. This game is unbelievable. Impossible. There's nothing you can't do.
