1v1 Emboar [QC 3/3] [GP 2/2]

pqs

Banned deucer.
:sm/emboar:
[OVERVIEW]

Emboar's above-average Attack stat combined with its ability Reckless makes it a threat to be reckoned with in 1v1. Its STAB moves alongside Head Smash allow it to OHKO common threats like Magearna, Heatran, and Mega Charizard X and Y. Choice Scarf allows Emboar to outspeed and KO some common fast threats such as Jumpluff, Naganadel, Modest Greninja, and Mega Lucario. However, defensively, Emboar's lackluster bulk alongside its Fire / Fighting typing makes it lose to common threats that can bulk for its moves, like Dragonite, Mega Gyarados, and Landorus-T. Furthermore, Emboar's lackluster Speed forces it to use a Choice Scarf to win most of its matchups. Additionally, even with the Choice Scarf boost, Emboar still can't outspeed common fast threats like Mega Lopunny, Timid Greninja, Choice Scarf Porygon-Z, Zeraora, and offensive Deoxys-S. Also, because Emboar usually needs to use Choice Scarf, it fails to gain the offensive presence necessary to beat matchups that its coverage enables it to hit super effectively, like Mega Metagross and Mega Blaziken.Lastly, it faces rolls against Pokemon like bulky Victini and bulky Mega Charizard X when running a Jolly nature and is unable to outspeed Pokemon like Naganadel and Jumpluff when running Adamant.

[SET COMMENTS]
Moves
========

Head Smash is specifically for common Fire- and Flying-types, mainly Mega Charizard X and Y along with other threats such as Victini, Volcarona, Togekiss, and Archeops. Flare Blitz is Emboar's best STAB move and lets it primarily take on Steel-types such as Magearna, Celesteela, Registeel, and Mega Scizor as well as some prevalent Grass- and Bug-types such as Serperior, Ferrothorn, Genesect, Durant. Superpower is used mainly for Dark- and Normal-types like Mega Tyranitar, Incineroar, Weavile, non-Choice Scarf Porygon-Z, and Ambipom and one particular Steel-type in Heatran. Earthquake is used to KO Poison-types and some Fire-types, such as Nihilego and Infernape.

Set Details
========

252 Attack EVs give Emboar the best chance against Naganadel with Earthquake. 252 Speed EVs with a Jolly nature let Emboar outspeed Naganadel when holding a Choice Scarf. However, an Adamant nature can be run to more reliably beat threats like bulky Mega Charizard X and Victini, though Emboar loses out on faster foes like Naganadel and Jumpluff. 4 EVs are invested into Special Defense to give Genesect an Attack boost instead of a Special Attack boost. Choice Scarf is used to outspeed common metagame threats and KO them, such as Mega Charizard X, and Mega Charizard Y, Jumpluff, Mega Gardevoir, and Victini. Reckless is used to boost the power of Emboar's recoil moves, Flare Blitz and Head Smash, even further.

Usage Tips
========

Emboar is mainly good at beating certain Pokemon weak to its STAB moves like Magearna, Celesteela, Genesect, Heatran, Jumpluff, and Tyranitar due to its decent but not great base stats as well as its powerful moves, though it still fails to beat some Pokemon that are weak to them like Aegislash, Magnezone, Krookodile, and Porygon2. Emboar's coverage is particularly good against common offensive threats like Mega Charizard X and Y, Normalium Z Porygon-Z, offensive Mega Metagross, Kartana, Volcarona, Mega Medicham, and Mega Pinsir, though for a lot of these matchups it relies on a 4x weakness or just frailty in general. Emboar needs to be wary against Pokemon that it needs rolls to KO, like bulky Mega Charizard X, Mega Gardevoir, and Victini, as they can all take a hit with dedicated investment and KO it back easily, so you need to bet your luck against them. Incineroar is a noteworthy matchup due to Superpower not always 2HKOing it, which may give it enough time to use a Malicious Moonsault followed by a Darkest Lariat to KO Emboar. Don't send Emboar out against Aegislash, as though Emboar has the type advantage, it can block Flare Blitz with King's Shield, lower Emboar's Attack, and can OHKO it with Never-Ending Nightmare. Be wary of common Sturdy Pokemon like Donphan, Golem, Sawk, Avalugg, Crustle, and Magnezone, as they can take a hit from Emboar and KO back with their moves. Almost all Pokemon with the ability Intimidate, such as Mega Mawile, Mega Gyarados, Landorus-T, and Salamence, can take a hit from Emboar and counter with a more powerful one, so Emboar should stay away from these Pokemon. Avoid speedier Pokemon that can outspeed Emboar even with a Choice Scarf and KO it, like Mega Lopunny, Greninja, and Choice Scarf Porygon-Z. Emboar can't deal well with FEAR or gimmick Pokemon outside of Smeargle because of its Choice Scarf locking it into a move, so stay away from them. Examples of these include Aron, Mega Alakazam, and Togedemaru. Be aware that Pokemon such as Mega Venusaur, Mega Metagross, and Dragonite that are weak to one of Emboar's moves may not always be KOed by it. Especially if Emboar has a Jolly nature, matchups like bulky Victini and Mega Charizard X aren't always reliable.

Team Options
========

A bulky offense Pokemon like Mega Gyarados, Dragonite, Mega Metagross, or Zygarde-C can provide an easier time versus hyper offense Pokemon like Choice Scarf Porygon-Z and Landorus-T, both of which can easily outspeed and KO Emboar; in return, Emboar can take down sleep users that these Pokemon struggle with like Jumpluff, Vivillon, and Breloom, as well as common threats like both Mega Charizard X and Y and Mega Gardevoir. Sleep inducers like Jumpluff and Mega Gengar can take down bulky Pokemon like Mega Gyarados, Dragonite, Mega Metagross, Aegislash, and Landorus-T. In return, Emboar can defeat Steel-types that these threats lose to like Ferrothorn and Genesect. Grass-types like Ferrothorn, Mega Venusaur, Tapu Bulu, and Kartana can take down the common Water- and Ground-types that Emboar loses to, such as Primarina, Tapu Fini, Donphan, and Golem. In return, Emboar can beat Mega Charizard X and Y and common Flying-types like Celesteela, Vivillon, Mega Pinsir, and Jumpluff. Tanky Pokemon, especially Steel-types such as Celesteela, Mega Metagross, and Ferrothorn, that can take moves from Tapu Lele, Porygon-Z, and Greninja are helpful partners for Emboar. In return, Emboar can take down Mega Charizard X and non-bulky Victini, which these are weak to.

[STRATEGY COMMENTS]
Other Options
=============

Emboar can use a Choice Band set with an EV spread of 88 HP / 224 Atk / 96 Def / 100 SpD and an Adamant nature to take on threats like Mega Charizard X and Magearna; specifically, the 88 HP and 96 Defense EVs allow Emboar to take a hit from Mega Charizard X, and the 100 Special Defense EVs also allow it to take Magearna's Twinkle Tackle. However, it loses out on some of the matchups that Choice Scarf Emboar wins because of its Speed, like faster threats in Jumpluff, Naganadel, and Mega Medicham. Such a set can also run an EV spread of of 200 HP / 60 Atk / 248 Def and an Impish nature specifically to take Mega Metagross's Zen Headbutt and retaliate with a Flare Blitz. Emboar can also run a Firium Z set with the moves Will-O-Wisp / Blast Burn / Grass Knot / Flame Charge, an EV spread of 20 HP / 236 Def / 40 SpA / 212 Spe, and a Bold nature; this lets Emboar take a Z-Move from Donphan or Golem after they have been burned by Will-O-Wisp and KO them back with Inferno Overdrive or Grass Knot, but this is mostly a gimmick.

Checks and Counters
===================

**Hyper Offense**: Most hyper offense Pokemon such as Greninja, Choice Scarf Porygon-Z, Zeraora, and Mega Lopunny can outspeed and easily KO Emboar due to its lackluster bulk.

**Physically Bulky Offense**: Most bulky offense Pokemon such as Mega Gyarados, Dragonite, Landorus-T, and Mega Metagross that aren't weak to Emboar's powerful moves, and some that are hit super effectively, can take a hit from Emboar and either set up turn one or KO it back with a powerful move.

**Sturdy Pokemon**: Almost every Pokemon with the ability Sturdy, including Mega Aggron, Crustle, Donphan, Magnezone, and Sawk, can beat Emboar by taking a hit and then retaliating with a more powerful one.

**Stall**: Pokemon like Type: Null, Mega Slowbro, Mew, and Mega Altaria that try to stall out Emboar almost always win because of most of its moves, outside of Earthquake, have a negative effect on the user like recoil or Attack drops. This can come in handy for the opponent because stall Pokemon can just use their form of recovery to compound these effects.

**Ground- and Water-types**: Most Ground- and Water-types such as Donphan, Golem, Mega Gyarados, and Primarina can take a hit from Emboar and retaliate.

[OVERVIEW]

  • Emboar's above-average Attack stat combined with its ability Reckless and access to Choice Scarf (all non-Mega mons have "access" to Scarf - reword) allows Emboar to be a threat to be dealt with in the 1v1 metagame.
  • Emboar's wide variety of moves such as Head Smash and Earthquake can cover many common Fire-types in the metagame such as Mega Charizard X and Y, Victini, Mega Blaziken, and Entei.
  • Emboar uses Reckless to boost its recoil moves like Flare Blitz and Head Smash to be even stronger, especially because of Emboar's Blaze ability not providing any use to it as the playstyle is usually to try and OHKO threats turn one. (Having access to Blaze isn't relevant for Emboar's niche. Remove it from this section to keep things short and sweet)
  • Emboar's useful Fire / Fighting-type combination allows gives it to have a STAB boost on powerful moves such as Flare Blitz and Superpower, allowing it to OHKO common threats such as Magearna, Mega Gardevoir, Modest Greninja (though not that common), and Mega Tyranitar.
  • Choice Scarf on Emboar allows it to outspeed and KO common fast metagame threats such as Jumpluff, Nagandel, Modest Greninja, and Mega Lucario.
  • However, Emboar's HP is decent though its Defense and Special Defense are pitiful, making it lose to common threats that can either bulk Emboar's moves or outspeed and KO it. Examples include Timid Greninja, Choice Scarf Porygon-Z, Dragonite, Mega Gyarados, and Landorus-T.
  • Furthermore, Emboar's lackluster Speed forces it to use a Choice Scarf to win most of its matchups. Even with the Choice Scarf boost it still can't outspeed common fast threats in the metagame like Timid Greninja, Zeraora, and Choice Scarf Porygon-Z.
  • Lastly, Emboar's Fire / Fighting typing, whilst providing an interesting STAB boost to some of its moves also leave it susceptible to some of the most common Pokémon in the metagame that can KO it with a super-effective move such as Mega Gyarados, Dragonite, Tapu Lele, Zygarde-C, and Landorus-T.

  • Head Smash is specifically for the common Fire- and Flying-types in the metagame, explicitly specifically Mega Charizard X and Y, along with other threats such as Victini, Volcarona, Togekiss, and Archeops.
  • Flare Blitz is Emboar's best STAB move and can take on mostly Steel- and some Grass- and Bug-types prevalent in the metagame such as Magearna, Celesteela, Registeel, Mega Scizor, Ferrothorn, Genesect, Durant, and Serperior.
  • Superpower is used mainly for Dark-, Normal-, and Steel-types that take less from Flare Blitz. Examples of what Emboar beats with this move include Mega Tyranitar, Incineroar, Weavile, non-Choice Scarf Porygon-Z, Ambipom, and Heatran.
  • Notably, Superpower has a downside against bulky Pokemon where Superpower does less over time because of the Attack drop and isn't always able to 2HKO or 3HKO otherwise.
  • Earthquake is used to KO Poison-, and to an extent Fire-types, such as Naganadel, Nihilego, Mega Blaziken, and Infernape.

Set Details
========

  • 252 EVs are invested in Attack to get the best chance against Naganadel with Earthquake.
  • 252 EVs are in Speed as well as a Jolly nature to outspeed Naganadel when holding a Choice Scarf
  • Choice Scarf is used to outspeed common metagame threats and KO them, such as Mega Charizard X and Y, Jumpluff, Mega Gardevoir, and Victini.
  • Emboar's ability, Reckless, is used to boost Emboar's recoil moves, Flare Blitz and Head Smash, even further for their maximum power. Also on this set Blaze is a pretty useless ability as the strategy is usually to outspeed and OHKO Pokemon.

Usage Tips
========

  • Watch out for Aegislash as though you have the type advantage, Flare Blitz can get blocked by King's Shield to lower your attack, and then Aegislash can OHKO you with Never-Ending Nightmare.
  • Be wary of common Sturdy Pokemon as they can take a hit from your moves and KO back with their moves. Examples of these Pokemon include Donphan, Golem, Sawk, Avalugg, Crustle, and Magnezone.
  • Almost all Intimidate-ability Pokemon with the ability Intimidate can take a hit from Emboar and counter back with a more powerful hit, so you should stay away from these Pokemon such as Mega Mawile, Mega Gyarados, Landorus-T, and Salamence.
  • Emboar can't deal well with any FEAR or gimmick Pokemon because of its Choice Scarf locking it into a move stay away from them, outside of Smeargle. Examples of these include Aron, Illumise, and Togedemaru, and Riolu. (Emboar beats Riolu with Earthquake)
  • Send Emboar out against Mega Charizard X and Y because Head Smash can easily KO both of them.
  • Send Emboar against sleep-users that it can outspeed and KO like Jumpluff, Vivillon, Smeargle, and Breloom.

Team Options
========

  • A bulky offense Pokemon like Mega Gyarados, Dragonite, Mega Metagross, or Zygarde-C can provide an easier life versus hyper offense like Porygon-Z and Greninja (better/different examples - Greninja beats 3/4 of these...) which can easily outspeed and KO Emboar, and in return, Emboar can take down sleep-users that these Pokemon struggle with like Jumpluff, Vivillon, and Breloom.
  • Sleep Pokemon like Jumpluff or Mega Gengar can take down bulky Pokemon like Mega Gyarados, Dragonite, Mega Metagross, Aegislash, and Landorus-T. In return, Emboar can take down Steel-types that these threats lose to like Ferrothorn and Genesect.
  • Grass-types like Ferrothorn, Mega Venusaur, Tapu Bulu, and Kartana can take down the common Ground- and Water-types that Emboar loses to, such as Primarina, Tapu Fini, Donphan, and Golem. In return, Emboar can beat Mega Charizard X and Y which these Grass-types are weak to, and common Flying-types like Celesteela, Vivillon, Mega Pinsir, and Jumpluff.

[STRATEGY COMMENTS]
Other Options
=============

  • Emboar can use a Choice Band set with the EVs of 88 HP / 224 Atk / 96 Def / 100 SpD and an Adamant nature to take threats like Mega Charizard X and Magearna whilst also hitting other threats back for more damage, though losing out on some of the matchups that Choice Scarf Emboar wins because of its Speed. Alternatively, you can run a Choice Band set with the EVs of 200 HP / 56 Atk / 252 Def and an Impish nature specifically to take a Mega Metagross' Zen Headbutt and retaliate with a Flare Blitz.
  • Emboar can run a Firium Z set with the EVs of 16 HP / 244 Def / 36 SpA / 212 Spe and a Bold nature to take a Z-Move from Donphan or Golem after a Will-O-Wisp burn and KO back with Z-Blast Burn or Grass Knot respectively.
  • Emboar can alternatively run a Grassium Z set with the move Solar Beam to lure in and KO Primarina and Tapu Fini. (If you think this set is good, feel free to defend it. Otherwise, delete it - it seems very hypothetical and probably outclassed completely by Grassium Heatran. You also don't want to give the impression that Emboar has more set diversity than it does.)

Checks and Counters
===================

**Hyper Offense**: Most hyper offense can outspeed and easily KO Emboar due to its lackluster bulk. Examples of these Pokemon include Greninja, Choice Scarf Porygon-Z, Zeraora, and Mega Lopunny.

**Bulky Offense**: Most bulky offense that isn't weak to Emboar's powerful moves can usually take a hit from Emboar and either set up turn one or KO back with a powerful move, such as Mega Gyarados, Dragonite, Landorus-Therian, and Mega Metagross.

**Sturdy-ability Pokemon** Almost every Pokemon with the ability Sturdy can take down Emboar, by taking a hit and then retaliating with a more powerful one. Examples include Mega Aggron, Avalugg, Carracosta, Crustle, Donphan, Golem, Magneton, Magnezone, and Sawk.

**Stall** Pokemon that try to stall out you almost always win because of most of Emboar's moves, outside of Earthquake, have a negative effect on the user like recoil or attack drops. This can come in handy because stall Pokemon can just use their form of recovery and stall out Emboar. Examples of these Pokemon include Type: Null, Mega Slowbro, Mew, and Mega Altaria.

  • Emboar's useful Fire / Fighting-type combination gives it a STAB boost on powerful moves such as Flare Blitz and Superpower, allowing it to OHKO common threats such as Magearna, Mega Gardevoir, Modest Greninja (though not that common), and Mega Tyranitar. combine this with coverage, something like 'its fire/fighting stab + head smash / eq lets it be a fire type that threatens other fire types, which combined lets it beat x y z'
  • Choice Scarf on Emboar allows it to outspeed and KO some common fast metagame threats such as Jumpluff, Nagandel, Modest Greninja, and Mega Lucario.

Set Details
========

  • 252 EVs are invested in Attack to get the best chance against Naganadel with Earthquake.
  • 252 EVs are in Speed as well as a Jolly nature to outspeed Naganadel when holding a Choice Scarf
  • mention that 4 evs is for download but this is almost always pointless
  • Choice Scarf is used to outspeed common metagame threats and KO them, such as Mega Charizard X and Y, Jumpluff, Mega Gardevoir, and Victini.
  • Emboar's ability, Reckless, is used to boost Emboar's recoil moves, Flare Blitz and Head Smash, even further for their maximum power. Also on this set Blaze is a pretty useless ability as the strategy is usually to outspeed and OHKO Pokemon. not needed

Usage Tips

  • Watch out for Don't send it out against Aegislash as though you have the type advantage, Flare Blitz can get blocked by King's Shield to lower your attack, and then Aegislash can OHKO you with Never-Ending Nightmare.

  • Emboar can't deal well with any FEAR or gimmick Pokemon because of its Choice Scarf locking it into a move stay away from them, outside of Smeargle. Examples of these include Aron, Illumise I would replace with Mega Alakazam, bc subencore is more gimmicky that just charmstall, your choice and Togedemaru.
  • Send Emboar out against Mega Charizard X and Y because Head Smash can easily KO both of them. instead of saying this, which you've already talked about in moves, mention mons that look like you could ko with a super effective move, but you fail to, like Mega Venusaur and bulky Mega Metagross
  • Send Emboar against sleep-users that it can outspeed and KO like Jumpluff, Vivillon, Smeargle, and Breloom. this is basically just type mus

Team Options
========

  • A bulky offense Pokemon like Mega Gyarados, Dragonite, Mega Metagross, or Zygarde-C can provide an easier life versus hyper offense like Porygon-Z and Choice Scarf Landorus-T which can easily outspeed and KO Emboar, and in return, Emboar can take down sleep-users that these Pokemon struggle with like Jumpluff, Vivillon, and Breloom, as well as common threats like both Mega Charizards and Tapu Lele.

In return, Emboar can beat Mega Charizard X and Y which these Grass-types are weak to, and common Flying-types like Celesteela, Vivillon, Mega Pinsir, and Jumpluff.
  • mention special tanks that can beat pokemon like porygon z, tapu lele, greninja, naganadel

[STRATEGY COMMENTS]
Other Options
=============

  • Emboar can use a Choice Band set with the EVs of 88 HP / 224 Atk / 96 Def / 100 SpD and an Adamant nature to take threats like Mega Charizard X and Magearna whilst also hitting other threats back for more damage, though losing out on some of the matchups that Choice Scarf Emboar wins because of its Speed you should include mus that scarf cannot win here with this set. Alternatively, you can run a Choice Band set with the EVs of 200 HP / 56 Atk / 252 Def and an Impish nature specifically to take a Mega Metagross' Zen Headbutt and retaliate with a Flare Blitz.
  • Emboar can run a Firium Z set with the EVs of 16 HP / 244 Def / 36 SpA / 212 Spe and a Bold nature to take a Z-Move from Donphan or Golem after a Will-O-Wisp burn and KO back with Z-Blast Burn or Grass Knot respectively, but this is mostly a gimmick.

Checks and Counters
===================

**Hyper Offense**: Most hyper offense can outspeed and easily KO Emboar due to its lackluster bulk. Examples of these Pokemon include Greninja, Choice Scarf Porygon-Z, Zeraora, and Mega Lopunny.

**Physically Bulky Offense**: Most bulky offense that isn't weak to Emboar's powerful moves - and some that are weak and tank anyway - can usually take a hit from Emboar and either set up turn one or KO back with a powerful move, such as Mega Gyarados, Dragonite, Landorus-Therian, and Mega Metagross.

Examples of these Pokemon include Type: Null, Mega Slowbro, Mew, and Mega Altaria.

i would include ground types and water types in general

[OVERVIEW]

  • Emboar's above-average Attack stat combined with its ability Reckless allows Emboar to be a threat to be dealt with in the 1v1 metagame.
  • Flare Blitz and Superpower being great It's Fire / Fighting STABs for Emboar alongside Head Smash allow it to OHKO common threats like Magearna, Heatran, and both Mega Charizards. Mega Gardevoir, and Mega Tyranitar, along with its wide variety of coverage moves such as Head Smash and Earthquake can cover many common Fire-types in the metagame such as Mega Charizard X and Y, Victini, Mega Blaziken, and Entei. this truncates the info without basically repeating the moves section, and being Fire / Fighting with head smash is much more unique than fire fighting with eq, also eq doesn't rlly gain anything
  • Choice Scarf on Emboar allows it to outspeed and KO some common fast metagame threats such as Jumpluff, Naganadel, Modest Greninja, and Mega Lucario.
  • However, defensively Emboar's lackluster bulk, alongside its Fire / Fighting typing make it lose to common threats that can either bulk Emboar's moves or outspeed and KO it. Examples include Timid Greninja, Choice Scarf Porygon-Z, Dragonite, Mega Gyarados, and Landorus-T.
  • Furthermore, Emboar's lackluster Speed forces it to use a Choice Scarf to win most of its matchups. Even with the Choice Scarf boost it still can't outspeed common fast threats in the metagame like Timid Greninja, Zeraora, and Choice Scarf Porygon-Z. use different examples then what you've already said, like Mega Lopunny and offensive Deoxys-S
  • also mention that because its running Choice Scarf, it fails to at the same time gain the offensive presence and the speed necessary to beat matchups that its coverage can hit super effectively, like Mega Metagross and Mega Blaziken, and even have rolls against Pokemon like bulky victini and bulky char x when running jolly, and being unable to beat Pokemon like Naganadel or Jumpluff at all if running adamant.

Moves
========

  • Head Smash is specifically for the common Fire- and Flying-types in the metagame, specifically Mega Charizard X and Y, along with other threats such as Victini, Volcarona, Togekiss, and Archeops.
  • Superpower is used mainly for Dark-, Normal-, and Steel-types that take less from Flare Blitz just say Heatran here and remove it down there unless theres another steel type this applies to. Examples of what Emboar beats with this move include Mega Tyranitar, Incineroar, Weavile, non-Choice Scarf Porygon-Z, Ambipom, and Heatran.
  • Notably, Superpower has a downside against bulky Pokemon where Superpower does less over time because of the Attack drop and isn't always able to 2HKO or 3HKO otherwise. this seems pointless to mention as you give no real examples and since emboar isn't particularly known for taking hits anyway, and since you are suggesting no alternative. like, its a downside against bulky pokemon, so what would you do instead? if anything u should use superpower anyway in order to fish for crits
  • Earthquake is used to KO Poison-, and to an extent Fire-types, such as Nihilego, Mega Blaziken 252 Atk Emboar Earthquake vs. 0 HP / 0 Def Blaziken-Mega: 252-298 (83.7 - 99%) -- guaranteed 2HKO , and Infernape.

  • 252 EVs are invested in Attack to maximize Attack in order to get the best chance against Naganadel with Earthquake.
  • 252 EVs are in Speed as well as a Jolly nature to maximize Speed, which lets you outspeed Naganadel when holding a Choice Scarf and a Jolly nature.
  • mention that Adamant can also be run in order to make bulkier variants of Mega Charizard X and Victini guaranteed
  • 4 EVs are invested into Special Defense to give Genesect an Attack boost instead of a Special Attack boost though this is almost always useless.

Usage Tips
========

  • Don't send it out against Aegislash as though you have the type advantage, Flare Blitz can get blocked by King's Shield to lower your attack, and then Aegislash can OHKO you with Never-Ending Nightmare.
  • Be wary of common Sturdy Pokemon as they can take a hit from your moves and KO back with their moves. Examples of these Pokemon include Donphan, Golem, Sawk, Avalugg, Crustle, and Magnezone.
  • Almost all Pokemon with the ability Intimidate can take a hit from Emboar and counter back with a more powerful hit, so you should stay away from these Pokemon such as Mega Mawile, Mega Gyarados, Landorus-T, and Salamence.
  • repeat that you should avoid speedier Pokemon that will outspeed Emboar always, like Greninja and Mega Lopunny.
  • Emboar can't deal well with any FEAR or gimmick Pokemon because of its Choice Scarf locking it into a move stay away from them, outside of Smeargle. Examples of these include Aron, Mega Alakazam, and Togedemaru.
  • Pokemon that may look like you could KO with a super-effective move may not always be KOed. Examples of these things that you should stay away from are Mega Venusaur, Mega Metagross, and Dragonite. Mention that certain Pokemon will also not be guaranteed with Jolly

Team Options
========

  • A bulky offense Pokemon like Mega Gyarados, Dragonite, Mega Metagross, or Zygarde-C can provide an easier life versus hyper offense like Choice Scarf Porygon-Z and Choice Scarf Landorus-T which can easily outspeed and KO Emboar, and in return, Emboar can take down sleep-users that these Pokemon struggle with like Jumpluff, Vivillon, and Breloom, as well as common threats like both Mega Charizard X and Y and Tapu Lele. sorry idk why i said this, i meant mega gardevoir
  • Tanky Pokemon that can bulk moves from Tapu Lele, Porygon-Z, and Greninja are helpful to Emboar, examples include Celesteela, Mega Metagross, and Ferrothorn. what would emboar do in return? also is it just steel types?

[STRATEGY COMMENTS]
Other Options
=============

  • Emboar can use a Choice Band set with the EVs of 88 HP / 224 Atk / 96 Def / 100 SpD and an Adamant nature to take threats like Mega Charizard X and Magearna whilst also hitting other threats back for more damage, though losing out on some of the matchups that Choice Scarf Emboar wins because of its Speed, like faster threats in Jumpluff, Naganadel, and Mega Medicham. Not what I meant. Choice Scarf already beats Mega Charizard X and Magearna, so what does this Choice Band set do that is different from Choice Scarf? What Pokemon does this Choice Band set have over the Choice Scarf main set. Basically, what do these EVs do? Alternatively, you can run a Choice Band set with the EVs of 200 HP / 56 Atk / 252 Def 200 HP / 60 Atk / 248 Def and an Impish nature specifically to take a Mega Metagross' Zen Headbutt and retaliate with a Flare Blitz.
  • Emboar can run a Firium Z set with the EVs of 16 HP / 244 Def / 36 SpA / 212 Spe 20 HP / 236 Def / 40 SpA / 212 Spe and a Bold nature to take a Z-Move from Donphan or Golem after a Will-O-Wisp burn and KO back with Z-Blast Burn or Grass Knot respectively, but this is mostly a gimmick.
I need to know what the 88 HP / 224 Atk / 96 Def / 100 SpD does thats different from choice scarf
Checks and Counters
===================

**Hyper Offense**: Most hyper offense can outspeed and easily KO Emboar due to its lackluster bulk. Examples of these Pokemon include Greninja, Choice Scarf Porygon-Z, Zeraora, and Mega Lopunny.

**Physically Bulky Offense**: Most bulky offense that isn't weak to Emboar's powerful moves - and some that are weak hit super effectively and tank anyway - can usually take a hit from Emboar and either set up turn one or KO back with a powerful move, such as Mega Gyarados, Dragonite, Landorus-Therian, and Mega Metagross.

**Sturdy Pokemon** Almost every Pokemon with the ability Sturdy can take down Emboar, by taking a hit and then retaliating with a more powerful one.

**Ground and Water types**: Most Ground- and Water-types can usually take a hit from Emboar and retaliate back. Examples of these Pokemon are Mega Gyarados, Primarina, Tapu Fini, Donphan, and Golem.

with usage tips, what I'm talking about is general ways to use emboar and how it handles as a usable pokemon in battle, like:
- how it's mainly only good with hitting certain things super effectively (magearna, celesteela, genesect, heatran, jumpluff, serperior, ttar, etc)
- particularly good against common offensive threats (charizard, normalium pz, offensive metagross, kartana, volcarona, medicham, pinsir, etc)
- certain matchups where it doesn't have a reliable KO roll (bulky zardx, bulky gardevoir, bulky victini, etc).
- incineroar is also a particularly noteworthy matchup as it isn't necessarily reliable that you'll survive fake out + moonsault, as well as possibly not 2HKO with superpower

Emboar is mainly good only hitting at beating certain typing-weak Pokemon weak to its STAB moves like Magearna, Celesteela, Genesect, Heatran, Jumpluff, and Tyranitar due to its decent but not great base stats as well as powerful moves, though it still fails to beat some Pokemon that are still weak to Emboar's STABs them (RC) like Aegislash, Magnezone, Krookodile, and Porygon2. Emboar's coverage is particularly good against common offensive threats like Mega Charizard X, (AC) and Mega Charizard Y, Normalium Z Porygon-Z, offensive Mega Metagross, Kartana, Volcarona, Mega Medicham, and Mega Pinsir, though for a lot of these matchups it relies on a the foe's 4x weakness to one of its moves or just frail bulk (frailty / low bulk; Pokemon are frail, bulk can't be frail) in general. Emboar needs to be weary wary against Pokemon that it has rolls against needs rolls to KO, like bulky Mega Charizard X, Mega Gardevoir, and Victini, which all using their investments as they can all take a hit with investment and KO back easily, so you need to bet your luck against them. Incineroar is a noteworthy matchup against Emboar due to Superpower not always (2H?)KOing Incineroar it, (AC) causing a 50/50 between if Emboar can 2HKO or Incineroar would have which may give it (repetition + it's not a 50/50 if it's decided by rng) enough time to use a Malicious Moonsault into a Darkest Lariat (and KO Emboar?). Don't send it Emboar out against Aegislash, (AC) as though you have Emboar has the type advantage, Flare Blitz can get be blocked by King's Shield, (AC) to lower your which will also lower Emboar's Attack, and then Aegislash can OHKO you it with Never-Ending Nightmare. Be wary of common Sturdy Pokemon like Donphan, Golem, Sawk, Avalugg, Crustle, and Magnezone (moved), (AC) as they can take a hit from your moves Emboar and KO back with their moves. Examples of these Pokemon include Donphan, Golem, Sawk, Avalugg, Crustle, and Magnezone. Almost all Pokemon with the ability Intimidate, (AC) such as Mega Mawile, Mega Gyarados, Landorus-T, and Salamence, (AC) (moved) can take a hit from Emboar and counter back retaliate with a more powerful hit, so you Emboar should stay away from these Pokemon such as Mega Mawile, Mega Gyarados, Landorus-T, and Salamence. Avoid speedier Pokemon that can outspeed you even with a Choice Scarf because they can KO you anyways, KO Emboar (repetition) like Mega Lopunny, Greninja, and Choice Scarf Porygon-Z. Emboar can't deal well with any FEAR or gimmick Pokemon outside of Smeargle (moved) because of its Choice Scarf locking it into a move, (AC) so stay away from them, outside of Smeargle. Examples of these include Aron, Mega Alakazam, and Togedemaru. Be aware that Pokemon that may look like you could KO with a super-effective move are weak to one of Emboar's moves may not always be KOed by it. Examples of these things Pokemon, (AC) that which you should stay away from, (AC) are Mega Venusaur, Mega Metagross, and Dragonite. Especially if you have Emboar has a Jolly nature, matchups like bulky Victini and Mega Charizard X aren't always reliable.

A bulky offense Pokemon like Mega Gyarados, Dragonite, Mega Metagross, or Zygarde-C can provide an easier life versus take on hyper offense Pokemon like Choice Scarf Porygon-Z and Landorus-T, (AC) both of which can easily outspeed and KO Emboar; (semicolon) and in return, Emboar can take down sleep-users (sleep inducers / sleep move users) that these Pokemon struggle with like Jumpluff, Vivillon, and Breloom, as well as common threats like both Mega Charizard X, (AC) and Mega Charizard Y, (AC) and Mega Gardevoir. Sleep Pokemon inducers like Jumpluff or and Mega Gengar can take down bulky Pokemon like Mega Gyarados, Dragonite, Mega Metagross, Aegislash, and Landorus-T. In return, Emboar can take down defeat (word repetition) Steel-types that these threats lose to like Ferrothorn and Genesect. Grass-types like Ferrothorn, Mega Venusaur, Tapu Bulu, and Kartana can take down the common Ground- and Water-types that Emboar loses to, such as Primarina, Tapu Fini, Donphan, and Golem. In return, Emboar can beat Mega Charizard X and Mega Charizard Y, (AC) both of which these Grass-types are weak to, (optional: remove this clause, readers should already know grass-types are weak to zard) and common Flying-types like Celesteela, Vivillon, Mega Pinsir, and Jumpluff. Tanky Pokemon, especially Steel-types but not only (unnecessary), which that can bulk (take / bulk for) moves from Tapu Lele, Porygon-Z, and Greninja are helpful to partners for Emboar. Examples of them include Celesteela, Mega Metagross, and Ferrothorn. In return, Emboar can take down Mega Charizard X and non-bulky Victini, (AC) which these Pokemon are weak to.

Emboar can use a Choice Band set with the EVs an EV spread of 88 HP / 224 Atk / 96 Def / 100 SpD and an Adamant nature to take on threats like Mega Charizard X and Magearna; (semicolon) specifically, the 88 HP and 96 Defense EVs allow Emboar to take a hit from Mega Charizard X, and the 88 HP and 100 Special Defense EVs allow it to take a Z-Fleur Cannon Magearna's Twinkle Tackle. (period) whilst also hitting other threats back for more damage with its higher Attack stats, though losing This set also has higher damage output, but loses out on some of the matchups that Choice Scarf Emboar wins because of its (the former's poor / the latter's high) Speed, like faster threats in Jumpluff, Naganadel, and Mega Medicham. Alternatively, you Emboar can run a Choice Band set with the EVs an EV spread of of 200 HP / 60 Atk / 248 Def and an Impish nature specifically to take a Mega Metagross's Zen Headbutt and retaliate with a Flare Blitz. It can also can run a Firium Z set with the moves Will-O-Wisp / Blast Burn / Grass Knot / ???, (AC) the EVs an EV spread of 20 HP / 236 Def / 40 SpA / 212 Spe, (AC) and a Bold nature; (semicolon) to this lets Emboar take a Z-Move from Donphan or Golem after a Will-O-Wisp burn they have been burned by Will-O-Wisp and KO them back with Z-Blast Burn Inferno Overdrive or Grass Knot, (AC) respectively, but this it is mostly a gimmick.

Checks and Counters
===================

**Hyper Offense**: Most hyper offense Pokemon can outspeed and easily KO Emboar due to its lackluster bulk. Examples of these Pokemon include Greninja, Choice Scarf Porygon-Z, Zeraora, and Mega Lopunny.

**Physically Bulky Offense**: Most bulky offense Pokemon that isn't aren't weak to Emboar's powerful moves—and some that are hit super effectively and tank them anyway—can usually take a hit from Emboar and either set up turn one or KO it back with a powerful move. (period) such as These Pokemon include (resolves ambiguity) Mega Gyarados, Dragonite, Landorus-Therian, and Mega Metagross.

**Sturdy Pokemon**: Almost every Pokemon with the ability Sturdy can take down beat ("take" repetition) Emboar (RC) by taking a hit and then retaliating with a more powerful one. Examples of them include Mega Aggron, Avalugg, Carracosta, Crustle, Donphan, Golem, Magneton, Magnezone, and Sawk.

**Stall**: Pokemon that try to stall out you Emboar almost always win because of most of Emboar's its moves, outside of Earthquake, have a negative effect on the user like recoil or Attack drops. This can come in handy for the opponent because stall Pokemon can just use their form of recovery and stall out Emboar to compound these effects (repetition). Examples of these Pokemon include Type: Null, Mega Slowbro, Mew, and Mega Altaria.

**Ground-(AH) and Water-(AH)types**: Most Ground- and Water-types can usually (redundant) take a hit from Emboar and retaliate back. Examples of these Pokemon are Mega Gyarados, Primarina, Tapu Fini, Donphan, and Golem.

[OVERVIEW]

Emboar's above-average Attack stat combined with its ability Reckless allows Emboar to be makes it a threat to be dealt reckoned with in the 1v1 metagame. It's Fire / Fighting STABs for Emboar Its STAB moves alongside Head Smash allow it to OHKO common threats like Magearna, Heatran, and both Mega Charizards Charizard X and Y. Choice Scarf on Emboar allows it Emboar to outspeed and KO some common fast metagame threats such as Jumpluff, Naganadel, Modest Greninja, and Mega Lucario. However, defensively, (AC) Emboar's lackluster bulk (RC) alongside its Fire / Fighting typing makes it lose to common threats that can either bulk for Emboar's its moves, like Dragonite, Mega Gyarados, and Landorus-T. Furthermore, Emboar's lackluster Speed forces it to use a Choice Scarf to win most of its matchups. Furthermore, even with the Choice Scarf boost, (AC) it still can't outspeed common fast threats in the metagame like Mega Lopunny, Timid Greninja, Choice Scarf Porygon-Z, Zeraora, and offensive Deoxys-S. Also, because Emboar is using usually needs to use (scarf isn't the only option) (prev sentence said it was a necessity + it's the only set listed so this reads rly weird in context, keep as is) Choice Scarf, it fails to gain the offensive presence and the speed necessary at the same time (if it's using scarf, then you have the speed) to beat matchups that its coverage can enables it to hit super effectively, like Mega Metagross and Mega Blaziken (it's much clearer if you talk about the decisions between scarf/no scarf and jolly/ada in separate sentences); (SC) and have furthermore, it faces rolls against Pokemon like bulky Victini and bulky Mega Charizard X when running a Jolly nature (RC) and not being is unable to outspeed Pokemon like Nagandel and Jumpluff when running Adamant.

Head Smash is specifically for the common Fire- and Flying-types in the metagame, specifically mainly Mega Charizard X and Y (RC) along with other threats such as Victini, Volcarona, Togekiss, and Archeops. Flare Blitz is Emboar's best STAB move and can lets it primarily take on mostly Steel-types and as well as some Grass- and Bug-types prevalent in the metagame such as Magearna, Celesteela, Registeel, Mega Scizor, Ferrothorn, Genesect, Durant, and Serperior. Superpower is used mainly for Dark- (RC) and Normal-types (RC) and explicitly Heatran as a one particular Steel-type in Heatran. Examples of what (Pokemon / Dark- and Normal-types) Emboar beats with this move (other than Heatran) include Mega Tyranitar, Incineroar, Weavile, non-Choice Scarf Porygon-Z, and Ambipom. Earthquake is used to KO Poison-types (RC) and to an extent some Fire-types, such as Nihilego and Infernape.

Furthermore Additionally, even with the Choice Scarf boost, Emboar still can't outspeed common fast threats in the metagame like Mega Lopunny, Timid Greninja, Choice Scarf Porygon-Z, Zeraora, and offensive Deoxys-S. Also, because Emboar usually needs to use Choice Scarf, it fails to gain the offensive presence necessary to beat matchups that its coverage enables it to hit super effectively, like Mega Metagross and Mega Blaziken.(semicolon -> period) furthermore Lastly, it faces rolls against Pokemon like bulky Victini and bulky Mega Charizard X when running a Jolly nature and is unable to outspeed Pokemon like Nagandel Naganadel and Jumpluff when running Adamant.

Moves
========

Head Smash is specifically for the common Fire- and Flying-types in the metagame, mainly Mega Charizard X and Y along with other threats such as Victini, Volcarona, Togekiss, and Archeops. Flare Blitz is Emboar's best STAB move and lets it primarily take on Steel-types such as Magearna, Celesteela, Registeel, and Mega Scizor as well as some prevalent Grass- and Bug-types prevalent in the metagame such as Magearna, Celesteela, Registeel, Mega Scizor such as Serperior, Ferrothorn, Genesect, Durant (RC) and Serperior. Superpower is used mainly for Dark- and Normal-types like Mega Tyranitar, Incineroar, Weavile, non-Choice Scarf Porygon-Z, and Ambipom and one particular Steel-type in Heatran. Examples of Pokemon Emboar beats with this move include Mega Tyranitar, Incineroar, Weavile, non-Choice Scarf Porygon-Z, and Ambipom. Earthquake is used to KO Poison-types and some Fire-types, such as Nihilego and Infernape.

Set Details
========

Choice Scarf is used to outspeed common metagame threats and KO them, such as Mega Charizard X, (AC remove this comment) and Mega Charizard Y, Jumpluff, Mega Gardevoir, and Victini. Reckless is used to boost the power of Emboar's recoil moves, Flare Blitz and Head Smash, even further.

Usage Tips
========

Almost all Pokemon with the ability Intimidate, such as Mega Mawile, Mega Gyarados, Landorus-T, and Salamence, can take a hit from Emboar and counter with a more powerful hit one, so Emboar should stay away from these Pokemon. Avoid speedier Pokemon that can outspeed Emboar even with a Choice Scarf and KO it,(AC) like Mega Lopunny, Greninja, and Choice Scarf Porygon-Z. Examples of these Pokemon that you should stay away from are Mega Venusaur, Mega Metagross, and Dragonite. Especially if Emboar has a Jolly nature, matchups like bulky Victini and Mega Charizard X aren't always reliable.

Team Options
========

A bulky offense Pokemon like Mega Gyarados, Dragonite, Mega Metagross, or Zygarde-C can provide an easier life time versus hyper offense Pokemon like Choice Scarf Porygon-Z and Landorus-T, both of which can easily outspeed and KO Emboar; in return, Emboar can take down sleep users that these Pokemon struggle with like Jumpluff, Vivillon, and Breloom, as well as common threats like both Mega Charizard X and Y and Mega Gardevoir. Grass-types like Ferrothorn, Mega Venusaur, Tapu Bulu, and Kartana can take down the common Ground- and Water- and Ground-types that Emboar loses to, such as Primarina, Tapu Fini, Donphan, and Golem. In return, Emboar can beat Mega Charizard X and Y (RC) and common Flying-types like Celesteela, Vivillon, Mega Pinsir, and Jumpluff. Tanky Pokemon, especially Steel-types such as Celesteela, Mega Metagross, and Ferrothorn, that can take moves from Tapu Lele, Porygon-Z, and Greninja are helpful partners for Emboar. Examples include Celesteela, Mega Metagross, and Ferrothorn. In return, Emboar can take down Mega Charizard X and non-bulky Victini, which these are weak to.

Other Options
=============

Emboar can use a Choice Band set with an EV spread of 88 HP / 224 Atk / 96 Def / 100 SpD and an Adamant nature to take on threats like Mega Charizard X and Magearna; specifically, the 88 HP and 96 Defense EVs allow Emboar to take a hit from Mega Charizard X, and the 100 Special Defense EVs also allow it to take Magearna's Twinkle Tackle.(semicolon -> period) however However, it loses out on some of the matchups that Choice Scarf Emboar wins because of its Speed, like faster threats in Jumpluff, Naganadel, and Mega Medicham. Such a set can also run an EV spread of of 200 HP / 60 Atk / 248 Def and an Impish nature specifically to take Mega Metagross's Zen Headbutt and retaliate with a Flare Blitz. Emboar can also can run a Firium Z set with the moves Will-O-Wisp / Blast Burn / Grass Knot / Flame Charge, an EV spread of 20 HP / 236 Def / 40 SpA / 212 Spe, and a Bold nature; this lets Emboar take a Z-Move from Donphan or Golem after they have been burned by Will-O-Wisp and KO them back with Inferno Overdrive or Grass Knot, but this is mostly a gimmick.

Checks and Counters
===================

**Hyper Offense**: Most hyper offense Pokemon such as Greninja, Choice Scarf Porygon-Z, Zeraora, and Mega Lopunny can outspeed and easily KO Emboar due to its lackluster bulk. Examples of these Pokemon include Greninja, Choice Scarf Porygon-Z, Zeraora, and Mega Lopunny.

**Physically Bulky Offense**: Most bulky offense Pokemon such as Mega Gyarados, Dragonite, Landorus-T, and Mega Metagross that aren't weak to Emboar's powerful moves,(semicolon -> comma) and some that are hit super effectively,(AC) and tank them anyway can usually take a hit from Emboar and either set up turn one or KO it back with a powerful move. These Pokemon include Mega Gyarados, Dragonite, Landorus-T, and Mega Metagross.

**Sturdy Pokemon**: Almost every Pokemon with the ability Sturdy,(AC) including Mega Aggron, Avalugg, Carracosta, Crustle, Donphan, Golem, Magneton, Magnezone, and Sawk,(AC, are you sure you need to list 9 examples) can beat Emboar by taking a hit and then retaliating with a more powerful one. Examples of them include Mega Aggron, Avalugg, Carracosta, Crustle, Donphan, Golem, Magneton, Magnezone, and Sawk.

Examples of these Pokemon include Type: Null, Mega Slowbro, Mew, and Mega Altaria.

**Ground- and Water-types**: Most Ground- and Water-types such as Donphan, Golem, Mega Gyarados, and Primarina can take a hit from Emboar and retaliate. Examples of these Pokemon are Mega Gyarados, Primarina, Tapu Fini, Donphan, and Golem.
