Erasing your save file with cloning.

A friend just told me his save file got erased becuase he cloned. he'd always been against cloning, becuase he was worried about his save file. However he told be he tried it (and suceeded), and when he turned his game back on, it had been erased. I had always assumed becuase you have a backup file, this was impossible.

I haven't heard of this before, so i'd like to know if this has happened to anyone here.

lol, i didn't make him clone anything. he just logged on, and told me his save was gone. maybe he said it to scare me into not cloning anymore, but i've cloned loads of times, and nothing bad has happened.

It's not completely impossible (nothing is), but as you know D/P uses a two file system. The backup is there for the express purpose of PREVENTING file loss. As far as I can tell for all intents and purposes it can be regarded as impossible to lose your save file in D/P through cloning. I'm pretty sure, seeing as your friend is against cloning, that he just made up this bullshit story as a scare tactic to try and prevent you from cloning and maybe spread it around to scare others. None of us should fall for it.

Agreeing with the scare tactic hypothesis. I've cloned many times and nothing adverse occurred in my game. If your "friend" does this to you simply because he disagrees with what you do in a game, then I suggest that you reconsider your friendship.

It's been said several times but I would wager the game pak is not legit or he is lying, given that I would bet at least a thousand people a day are cloning if it was realistically possible for your game to get deleted by cloning I find it difficult to believe it wouldn't have been brought up a long time ago when it happened to someone a lot earlier on.

Heh, "friends". He's probably either lying or has a bootlegged game, as others have mentioned.

If the game save has been erased, how would he know if he "suceeded" in cloning it?

He probably is lying.
On the topic of losing savefiles, I'd be extemely pissed if my savefile got erased for some dumb reason (mostly probably someone deleting it).

Although losing his save file seems improbable, cloning on D/P doesn't seem perfect. I've cloned MANY a times, and just recently, my game almost didn't register the Aerodactyl I had in the GTS. There was no Aerodactyl in my party, and when I went to go take it out of the GTS, the top button was Deposit, and not Summary. I almost shit my pants cause I lost my only good IV'd pokemon. So, I logged out of the GTS and turned my game back off/on. I got the Summary option this time and my Aero was waiting in the GTS. Just a small little glitch I guess.

Anyone else ever have something similiar occur?

^^^ Yes, XC, that happened to me yesterday when GTSing for Manaphys with good IVs.

I've cloned many times and nothing adverse occurred in my game.

What I have heard is that flash memory, which is what Pokemon games have been using since ADV, becomes unstable after 10,000 saves or so. While it is a very high number and probably very hard to reach, the saving 2 or 3 times in order to clone a single Pokemon, along with regular saves, saving for regular WiFi trading/battling, and saving for Battle Tower events can really add up. After 10,000 saves I guess your save game file is more susceptible to corruption.

I'm curious as to whether or not this is true, if you do happen to reach 10,000 saves, aided largely by cloning.

i am too, someone know if when you "copy" your pokes to pbr count as a save?, thats so no good kuz i pal park from 3 games at a daily basis and battle my bro and do gts searches/trades, i think that you save 20 times per day or so

what if we lost or save file :S is no easy threat to complete a pokedex and train pokes

I'm his friend as well, I'm the one who got him into cloning, I puleed this trick on him to scare him when I didn't lose my file. So I don't believe him, I was the first person he told. I think he made it up and is sticking to it since I did it to him.

This is what happened.
My game is legit by the way..got it launch day. lol

I was cloning a Steelix.
I successfully did it after about 15 tries.

Then I figured I'd try my Mudkip.
I was going along
Kept getting the blue screen, loading previous file
Then I did it this time and it was the blue screen..and then i read it and it said it was corrupted and erased
and then it showed Professor Rowan.

I don't know what I did...I just turned off...

all I know is I TOLD you I shouldn't have tried.

370hours
that's like 15 days
gone. :(

I've attempted this glitch like 25 times, and succeeded around 5 times, all of them I was duplicating a Staravia with a Master Ball (because God hates me and won't let me catch Uxie/Mesprit/The other guy without them). I've fucked it up a lot (obviously) but never had anything adverse happen to my game. It simply doesn't make sense that this would "erase" your file, since the system of the game is designed to prevent that from happening. If what you say is true, it's probably a problem with either your game pack or a flaw in the system of the game, IMO.
