Hello, it's been a while.

As you may have noticed, since we finished slate 20, the mod has been pretty dead. Well, let's get it started back. For now, we'll focus on Metagame Development during which we will encourage teambuilding and playtesting. We will be hosting room tournaments on the Dragonheaven server in order to determine whether some mons are strong enough to warrant a nerf as well as to help establish a Viability List and Sample Teams. Join the discord for updates on upcoming roomtours and to find opponents more easily. All this will help setup for PMPL, an individual tournament on the forums or the UU part of the mod. While I am ready to playtest this mod, remember that it's not something that I can do alone, so I encourage everyone to give the metagame a shot, regardless of how good you may think you are or anything else of the sort. Anyway, with that being said, I also made a role compendium to help with teambuilding if you are looking for something specific to add to your team.

Thanks to the OU role compendium for helping format this. Keep in mind, with little knowledge of the metagame, most of the mons included are gonna be based on realistic probabilities that they can be used in a specific role, but not all of them will be good at it. As such, expect this list to be very inclusive.

These are just a rough overview and don’t exactly highlight actual potential of a Mon (ie dizmuth being the only realistic screen setter) but is just an idea.

Roomtour thoughts:

- Best performing sample was probably the Lunacorn team. Lunacorn definitely helped, but I think the defensive core of Gestower + Embeluga was the star of the show.
- Balance is the strongest playstyle right now. Offense is very matchup-dependent: you absolutely cannot load into Embeluga or else your momentum will be halted very often. Stall is alright, but it's missing a couple key tools and is wrecked by balance breakers like Spirimint or Lanburn.
- Flameedle had a very good showing when it was not fighting Embeluga! Bitter Blade lets it heal back most of the damage it takes while sweeping, which isn't very much if you're behind screens.
- Embeluga is very strong. Stops wincons like Goddease and Flameedle while being a wincon itself with Torch Song. I personally find it annoying but it's probably because I LOVE OFFENSE!!!!
- Pirrote's Bullet Punch sets didn't actually do that bad lol. Still functions better as a bulky pivot but its offensive prowess can't be overlooked.
- Hail is so mid lmao. Wizleet is relatively slow and is walled out by common threats such as (you guessed it) Embeluga, Gestower, and Iron Salvo. Alliglacier is somewhat dependent on Slush Rush to make meaning progress and is walled by similar things to Wizleet.
- No Cetenor showings. Probably because none of the samples had it. I personally do not believe Scarf sets are all that good anymore, but it needs testing. Band mayhaps????

I'm not good at big analysis posts. Might add more thoughts later. I don't think any balancing action will be taken for now.

Hello Fakemon Frontier players, after a few weeks of playtesting and a tournament held by zxgzxg, we have gathered enough games to settle on a Viability List for the metagame. Keep in mind that this is not an extremely detailed list, but it allows you to more easily find which mons you need to keep in check most and which are good picks for a first team which I hope will help players get into the metagame more easily. Thanks to my fellow council member zxgzxg as well as Fragmented and Scoopapa who all helped with this list. With this, the mod is mostly ready for the upcoming PMPL, so now's the time to try to get into it for that tournament. I'm really happy with the metagame we've ended up with and hope that players check it out and enjoy it as much as I do.
TOP: These are the very best pokemon in the metagame, finding their way unto a lot of teams and consistently contibuting heavily to games. Pokemon in this rank are what you'd usually expect to find between S and A tiers of Viability Rankings.

Batacomb
Flameedle
Iron Salvo
Gestower
Gobblen
Lunacorn
Pirrote
Yolkrak

HIGH: These are good pokemon that, while not as common or impactful as TOP ranks, are an important part of the metagame and are considered on many teams while generally being consistent. These are pokemon you might expect to see between A- and B+ tiers of Viability Rankings.

Cetenor
Deciberd
Dreadpool
Embeluga
Encrave
Flossilisk
Goddease
Harletritus
Kaerust
Kartrake
Lanburn
Phantasohm
Phantoxin
Spidocket
Spirimint
Vamplin

MID: These pokemon fill a decent niche in the metagame, but may lack consistency or be underwhelming on the wrong teams. These pokemon would usually find their way between the B and C+ tiers of Viability Rankings.

Alliglacier
Caboa
Cerebrawl
Coraking
Dizmuth
Djinnferno
Hootsydazey
Manchini
Nitrophend
Pingray
Pollusk
Punctgris
Scorpixie
Serpolt
Skeledune
Snowdown
Stalgatide
Stavage
Thermollusk
Wizleet
Wrathor
Wyverock

LOW: These pokemon are quite niche and will usually only function well on specific teams or in specific matchups. They may also have tough competition for higher-ranked pokemon. These are pokemon you might expect to find between the C and D tiers of Viability Rankings

Ascenshine
Bluffly
Centufowl
Folia
Maulsoleum
Molypoly
Nebularach
Skoloboros
Swampent

UNUSED: These pokemon saw too little usage to be properly ranked. However, we've still included what rank we'd expect them to reach in theory.

Kunekrow (MID)
Magiheel (LOW)
Puffrost (LOW)
Shifteor (LOW)
Toxatrice (LOW)

Hello Fakemon Frontier players again, throughout our playtesting, we noticed that our defensive options were not as varied as we hoped them to be. To amend this, we are slightly buffing some Fakemon before PMPL starts. These buffs aren't designed to turn the viability rankings on their heads, just to give a few lower-powered Fakemon a fighting chance.

Here are the buffs:

:bw/hydreigon:*
Skolobros
85 / 65 / 90 / 75 / 120 / 100 ---> 85 / 85 / 90 / 75 / 120 / 100

Skolobros' typing makes it very good for walling out threats like Spirimint and Lanburn, but passivity caused by low attacking stats make it not wort a team slot. Slightly higher attack lets it chip more with Knock Off

:bw/gastrodon:*
••• Swampent •••
75 / 90 / 115 / 55 / 80 / 75 ---> 95 / 90 / 115 / 55 / 80 / 75

A simple, substantial bulk buff. Nothing much to be said.

:bw/empoleon:*
Puffrost
90 / 70 / 80 / 90 / 130 / 40 ---> 90 / 70 / 80 / 110 / 130 / 40
+Earth Power

A similar case to Skolobros, where the defensive utility is there (in this case, for Lunacorn and Goddease) but the ability to actually force out threats is not. Higher Special Attack and more coverage should help with this.
manchini.png

Manchini
115 / 95 / 130 / 55 / 80 / 35 ---> 115 / 95 / 130 / 55 / 90 / 35
+Baneful Bunker

While Manchini already boasted high physical bulk, its reliance on Black Sludge made it difficult for Manchini to want to soak potential Knock Offs or U-turns. Baneful Bunker helps punish these contact moves, along with synergising with Black Sludge and Leech Seed. Higher Special Defense also gives it an even better matchup into Lunacorn.

*these arent the sprites that will be shown in builder. i have them here for visual sake

Hello FFOU, just thought I make a short write-up about some of the mons for the players getting into it for PMPL. Take it as a mini set compendium for the top ranks of the VR.

TOP
Water/Poison
90/72/100/122/108/98
Quark Drive

Incredibly splashable Water/Poison mon on both balance and offense builds as bulky hazard control and a check to the likes of Cetenor and Flameedle, while also being able to viably run offensive sets.
Iron Salvo @ Black Sludge
Ability: Quark Drive
Tera Type: Water
EVs: 252 HP / 232 Def / 24 Spe
Bold Nature
- Surf
- Sludge Bomb
- Recover
- Rapid Spin

I've seen Mossy run 48 Spe on his sets to outpace Jolly Harletritus, which I feel is pretty unlikely. 20 Spe creeps 0 Spe Skoloboros, 24 Spe outspeeds Harletritus trying to creep 0 Spe Skoloboros. Other move options include Volt Switch for pivoting and Toxic to cripple walls (though you will find that a surprising amount of things are immune to Toxic: The Move), but it is hard to justify dropping either Surf or Sludge Bomb. Salvo w/o Surf struggles against Grounds like Batacomb and Kartrake, and Salvo w/o Sludge Bomb has a worse match up into Lunacorn.
Iron Salvo @ Life Orb/Booster Energy
Ability: Quark Drive
Tera Type: Water
EVs: 252 SpA / 252 Spe
Timid Nature
IVs: 0 Atk
- Surf/Hydro Pump
- Fire Blast
- Thunderbolt
- Recover/Sludge Bomb/Rapid Spin

Yeah, this thing has Fire coverage to blow up a Gestower, so keep that in mind. Sludge Bomb could probably replace either of Fire Blast or Thunderbolt to improve Salvo's match up against Dragons and to send Lunacorn to the next dimension.
Flying/Steel
98/121/82/52/80/91
Trace/Iron Barbs

Flying/Steel with Iron Barbs and decent bulk, this thing is the bane of many physical attackers. However, this mon also has a 121 Atk stat, making it challenging to switch into as well. It is also pretty splashable, and keeps strong metagame presences like Lunacorn and Kartrake in check.
Pirrote @ Rocky Helmet/Leftovers
Ability: Iron Barbs
Tera Type: Flying
EVs: 252 HP / 4 Atk / 252 Def
Impish Nature
- Brave Bird
- Knock Off
- U-turn
- Roost

Doesn't really want to run any other moves on this set. RH really punishes contact moves, while Leftovers helps to heal chip damage which will definitely rack up considering how often it gets thrown into the fray.
Pirrote @ Leftovers
Ability: Iron Barbs
Tera Type: Flying
EVs: 152 HP / 252 Atk / 104 Spe
Adamant Nature
- Swords Dance
- Roost
- Bullet Punch
- Brave Bird/Knock Off

Low-key terrifying to face. Spe is just enough for creeping Jolly Harletritus (4 more Spe EVs to outspeed 48 Spe Salvo). Choose which 2 of BP, BB, and Knock you want to run, don't worry too much about resistances, they will still regret switching into a +2 Brave Bird.
Grass/Fairy
62/68/138/105/65/72
Flower Veil/Triage

Comfey on steroids that can sponge physical hits comfortably.
Lunacorn @ Life Orb
Ability: Triage
Tera Type: Grass
EVs: 248 HP / 8 Def / 252 SpA
Modest Nature
IVs: 0 Atk
- Calm Mind
- Giga Drain
- Draining Kiss
- Earth Power/Psychic

You'd want Earth Power most of the time to deal with grounded Steels and Poisons and hit mons like Kaerust and Embeluga harder, though Psychic is useful in hitting Vamplin which can prove to be a problem. Remember that you are slow Pirrote bait as well.
Poison/Dark
90/110/73/63/90/117
Stench/Protean

Very effective speed control with Protean Banded Espeed. There are probably other sets that are effective, but Band has been the most consistent by far.
Yolkrak @ Choice Band
Ability: Protean
Tera Type: Poison
EVs: 252 Atk / 4 SpD / 252 Spe
Jolly Nature
- Knock Off
- Earthquake
- Extreme Speed
- Flip Turn

You could try squeezing in Gunk Shot to really nail Lunacorn, but EQ is better most of the time. It does get Spikes too.
Bug/Fire
65/90/101/71/60/143
Swarm/Hyper Cutter/Long Reach

Fastest unboosted mon in the tier, hits and runs.
Flameedle @ Heavy-Duty Boots
Ability: Long Reach
Tera Type: Bug
EVs: 252 Atk / 4 SpD / 252 Spe
Adamant/Jolly Nature
- Bitter Blade
- Drill Run
- Knock Off/U-turn
- Swords Dance/U-turn

You could arguably run Adamant to hit harder, since the only other thing outspeeding that is unboosted is Jolly Stalagtide. Flameedle often runs SD 3 Attacks with Bitter Blade as its main STAB. Drill Run helps to hit Salvo super-effectively, and Knock Off for utility or U-turn for pivoting, depending on what the team needs/what you want. It does have other options like Leech Life as another STAB option, and coverage like Sacred Sword and Leaf Blade, the former hitting Skoloboros and Wyverock (both mons with Levitate) while the latter nails Coraking harder.
Dark
90/95/80/70/80/125
Good as Gold

The best form of hazard control before Iron Salvo came in. It's still good, being risky to spinblock while also setting up its own Spikes.
Gobblen @ Heavy-Duty Boots
Ability: Good as Gold
Tera Type: Dark
EVs: 252 HP / 4 Atk / 252 Spe
Jolly Nature
- Knock Off
- Slack Off
- Rapid Spin
- Spikes

The most common set you'll see it running. Good as Gold prevents it from getting Taunt'd, Wisp'd or Toxic'd, but it's still susceptible to other forms of status spreading (notably Nuzzle and Mortal Spin from Spidocket). Other move options to consider include Foul Play to hit physical attackers harder, and Play Rough to beat opposing Gobblen and the occasional Skoloboros.
Ground/Flying
100/75/85/110/90/70
Regenerator

It has Lando's movepool and Regenerator. Works well as a defensive pivot and is easy to fit on teams.
Batacomb @ Heavy-Duty Boots
Ability: Regenerator
Tera Type: Ground
EVs: 252 HP / 200 SpD / 56 Spe
Calm Nature
- Stealth Rock
- Sandsear Storm
- Sludge Bomb
- U-turn

You could easily run physdef over spdef if that's what you need. Sludge Bomb mainly for Lunacorn, but also useful in spreading Poisons. Run Earth Power over Sandsear Storm if you find yourself missing too much.
Batacomb @ Life Orb
Ability: Regenerator
Tera Type: Ground
EVs: 4 Def / 252 SpA / 252 Spe
Timid Nature
IVs: 0 Atk
- Nasty Plot
- Sandsear Storm
- Sludge Bomb
- Focus Blast/U-turn/Psychic

252 Spe Modest Scorpixie hits 261, which is probably uncommon to face, but might as well creep it. Alternatively, max speed Modest Batacomb can outrun 0 Spe Salvos and hits much harder. Focus Blast allows you to hit Pirrote and do more damage to Skoloboros, U-turn if you want to pivot about, and Psychic for Vamplin and to hit Batacomb mirrors harder (it's 8kg I think, so Grass Knot isn't doing much).
Grass/Steel
89/83/101/113/113/71
Beast Boost

There have been attempts to run more offensive variants, but defensive sets are more consistent, annoying the opponent with a hard-to-kill Leech Seeder. Grass/Steel sponge to handle Lunacorn mainly and other stuff like Iron Salvo w/o Fire Blast, Cetenor and Stavage. It can be pretty passive at times.
Gestower @ Leftovers
Ability: Beast Boost
Tera Type: Grass
EVs: 252 HP / 4 SpA / 252 SpD
Calm Nature
IVs: 0 Atk
- Stealth Rock
- Flash Cannon
- Thunder Wave
- Leech Seed

This is what it usually wants to run. Flash Cannon to hit Lunacorn harder than anything else it learns, TWave to cripple switch-ins, Leech Seed for recovery. You could forgo SR if you have another rocker and run something else, honestly not much experimentation has been done on it. Thunderbolt allows you to chip Pirrote outside of Leech Seed and Protect or Sub to rack up Leech Seed recovery. It actually gets other nifty stuff like Shift Gear + Meteor Beam and IronPress, and has Earth Power to hit Fires like Embeluga and Djinnferno (which it would otherwise welcome in for free). Feel free to experiment.
edit: tried formatting it in PokePaste, didn't end up as nice.

AoA
Cetenor @ Choice Band/Choice Scarf/Life Orb
Ability: Regenerator
Tera Type: Fairy
EVs: 252 Atk / 4 Def / 252 Spe
Jolly Nature
- Wave Crash
- Play Rough
- U-turn
- Knock Off/Close Combat

Other options: Taunt, Encore and Bulk Up, Flamethrower if you're funny
Hard countered by Iron Salvo, Phantoxin, Encrave and Manchini, defensively checked by Kaerust, Gestower and Embeluga (to a degree), offensively checked by Lunacorn, Yolkrak and some others.
Electric/Flying

Bold Nature
IVs: 0 Atk

- Will-O-Wisp
- Air Slash

Other options: Hurricane and Thunderbolt (more damage), Defog, Volt Switch, Heat Wave (hit Kartrake neutrally), Taunt
Can't do much against Kartrake beside Wisp it, but typing and ability makes it a good check to both that and Pirrote. Play around with the EVs if you want.

Technically possible, but not really the best. Kind of untested too.

Bulky Attacker
Dreadpool @ Heavy-Duty Boots/Leftovers

- Psychic Noise
- Fiery Dance
- Slack Off
- Fiery Wrath

Other options: Parting Shot or Flip Turn over Dark STAB, Thunderbolt, Dazzling Gleam and Ice Beam for Waters and Dragons, Hyper Voice for stronger STAB
I'll be honest, not sure what spread would be best. Doesn't really have much other utility besides like Memento.
Fire/Water
90/104/80/108/100/48
Flash Fire/Rain Dish/Unaware

SpDef
Embeluga @ Heavy-Duty Boots

IVs: 0 Atk

Gets 3HKOed by Earth Power from Lunacorn, which is your primary concern most of the time.

Ability: Prankster
Tera Type: Fairy
EVs: 248 HP / 8 Atk / 252 SpD
Careful Nature
- Reflect
- Light Screen
- Healing Wish
- Play Rough/Glaive Rush

Best known for being the Prankster Screens mon in the tier. SpDef to deal with Lunacorn better. Offensive sets could work in theory with stuff like Pixilate Blood Moon and DD sets but haven't seen much use.
Normal/Flying

Bold Nature
IVs: 0 Atk
- Air Slash

Very annoying to deal with for unprepared teams, easily PP stalls with its immense bulk. No reliable recovery hurts a bit, but still tough to take down. If you're struggling with this, having something like Harletritus, Coraking or Wyverock can help.

ninja edit: 232/220+/56 could probably work as a better EV spread
Fairy/Rock

Other Options: Smooth Rock for Sand teams, Encore, Toxic, Stone Edge for more damage but lets it get PP stalled easier
Not much to say, though there is some potential experimentation to be done (Jolly Band, RP 3 Attacks, OTR). Doesn't particularly like Batacomb and Pirrote and a lot of other balance staples.

- Thunderbolt

Other options: Taunt, Toxic, Flash Cannon, Earth Power and Ice Beam (thanks Aggron's movepool), IronPress perhaps
Haven't seen a defensive Kaerust in a while since Iron Salvo typically fulfils the role of bulky Water on most teams. Only real selling points are SR and Filter, allowing it to effectively wall Salvo w/o Electric coverage I guess.

Bulky-ish Attacker
Kaerust @ Life Orb

Iron Salvo can also do this too :/ It has surprise value I guess.

Fast Utility
Kartrake @ Leftovers
Ability: Heatproof
Tera Type: Steel
EVs: 252 HP / 4 Atk / 252 Spe
Jolly Nature

Other options: Dragon Dance, Stone Edge, Smack Down
Mainly here to take some special attacks, has more offensive presence than Batacomb but less staying power.

Dragon Dance
Kartrake @ Life Orb
Ability: Heatproof
Tera Type: Steel
EVs: 252 Atk / 4 SpD / 252 Spe
Jolly Nature
- Dragon Dance
- Heavy Slam

I prefer Smack Down over Stone Edge to deal with Pirrote and Decibird easier. Really scary once set up, Heavy Slam is 120 BP against most mons.

It just hits so hard with Specs. Scarf is a decent revenge killer and makes Yolkrak less of a check. DGleam is for the occasional Skoloboros. Typing + Ability + decent SpDef allows it to check Lunacorn.

Enough Speed to outrun Scarf Cetenor at +2. Adamant LO OHKOS 252/252+ Pirrote and Salvo at +1, Brick Break OHKOs 252 HP Skoloboros at +1 after SR damage. HWish support from Flossilisk is nice to heal up all the recoil it amasses.

28 Spe for 0 Spe Salvo, feel free to invest it somewhere else if it isn't a concern. Hard counters Cetenor, deals with Lunacorn decently too. Fast support set with 252 HP / 4 Def/ 252 Spe Timid could work well.

Hey guys, with the last (if not second to last) PMPL game being played, I want to open up the floor to your thoughts on viability rankings. So to aid with that, I made this tier list maker (2 months ago)! If you played in PMPL, I highly encourage you put something together and share it with the rest of us. It would help me and Mossy put together resources much more effectively. Thanks for playing, everyone!

Hey guys, it's been a minute, but me and Mossy have analyzed the games and feedback from PMPL III and decided on some balance changes for this tier. Our main priorities were nerfing the brokens, but we also wanted to make sure there were varied defensive and offensive options, so some of the more passive walls and ineffective setup sweepers were slightly retuned.

I'm not really good at long form writing, so if you want explanations on these changes, hit me up on Discord. Sheet will be updated with all this information soon, and implemented on Dragon Heaven soon after. We will also be hosting a forum tour in which I will probably be handing out money again, so stay tuned for that.
