This thread is to be dedicated to all of the funny sayings that people have heard that they can't stop laughing about, the inspirational sayings or speeches that made you keep going no matter how hard things have gotten, or just something really awesome that you heard from someone.

I want them all placed here and shared with me and the rest of out smogonites.
Please also include a small description of why you posted that quote or multiple quotes.
There is no post limit to how many you can throw up so if you discover some new ones please bring them back here
Side Note: This also includes songs

here is a song:

watch these

Example:
The measure of success is not measure by the position one reaches in life as much as it is by the obstacles one must overcome to get to that position.

I love this saying because it means if you are born in a rough neighborhood while the person next to you in college was born with a silver spoon in their mouth you may be looked down upon for where you come from but you are more successful than them because you had to work harder to get there.

These two inspire me to wake up every morning:

"I want to rip out his heart and feed it to him. I want to kill people. I want to rip their stomachs out and eat their children."

“I want to throw down your kid and stomp on his testicles, and then you will know what it is like to experience waking up everyday as me. And only then will you feel my pain.”

Burzum: you must have a lot of pain in your life bro

walking palm tree: LOL i like that

Remember you can post songs as well

Here is my song lyrics/quote

I've hold the fire within myself
Years I've walked in the coldest winds
Through the deserts of sand and snow
The time is passing and I know
that I'm wasting my life, destroying my dreams
I'm diving into the bottomless sea
From sorrow and pain I find my strength
the more pain I feel, the more I see
Now I'm watching my life flowing in the dark
like streams of fear running through my heart
And it's wearing me down until I'm gone
Soon I'll join the endless whirls of stars
And I fall deeper into the unknown voids
Something is dying, yet something is born
And I fall into infinity like a burning star
When will I find my silent dawn
I fall like a burning star!

"The root problem with Christianity is that their god is supposed to be all-powerful and benevolent. It sounds like an easy sell; but when life turns completely to shit, you have to come up with all kinds of whacked-out reasons for why kindly old Jehovah saw fit to run over little Timmy with a combine harvester and leave him in a state of vegetative, limbless agony for eighteen years. Ancient cultures didn't have that problem. They knew their gods were a bunch of drunken lunatics who ran around boning their close relatives and turning their ghoulies into fruit-bearing trees."

That pretty much sums up why you shouldn't have to listen to stupid Christains.

Great spirits have always found violent opposition from mediocrities. The latter cannot understand it when a man does not thoughtlessly submit to hereditary prejudices, but honestly and courageously uses his intelligence and fulfills the duty to express the results of his thought in clear form.

When the pimp's in the crib ma

Twenty years from now you will be more disappointed by the things that you didn't do than by the ones you did do. So throw off the bowlines. Sail away from the safe harbor. Catch the trade winds in your sails. Explore. Dream. Discover."

-Twain

Best. Ever.

That's awesome i think i was just inspired to go rob a bank. I've always wanted to but never had a good reason or motivation to, but here it is.

"Minds are like parachutes: they only work when they are open"

"Through the course may change sometimes, rivers always reach the sea"

This is a quote from a movie, V for Vendetta, one of my favorites.
Creedy: Die! Die! Why won't you die?
V: Beneath this mask there is more than flesh. Beneath this mask there is an idea, Mr. Creedy, and ideas are bulletproof.
There really isn't much media that places a lot of emphasis on literature, because all that I know does that effectively is the Series of Unfortunate Events and Inkheart. This not only is extremely badass, but it goes to emphasize exactly how important our own ideas actually are.

Since I'm on the topic of movie quotes, why not go the typical route. Spiderman:
Uncle Ben said:
With great power comes great responsibility.
Explanation: With great power comes great responsibility. Self-explanatory, I believe.

From the Batman movie that led to the other Batman movie we know as the Dark Knight:
Thomas Wayne said:
And why do we fall, Bruce? So we can learn to pick ourselves up again.
Making mistakes is the first step, learning from them is the second, but the third is using that mistake to elevate ourselves higher. Typical, but it works.

I'll end it off with one from Hellboy:
Agent Myers said:
We like people for their qualities but we love them for their defects.
This one brings out a great deal of thought, because it kinda questions the whole ideology of love. Loving someone for their qualities is what you consider normal, but loving one for their defects? Does it mean that you are trying to make them better? Defects are not usually what one likes in a person, but it may be that it shows that they're still human and just like the quote before, they can fall due to their defects and rise up higher than they were. I still mentioned this quote because I personally feel that it is very good, even if my interpretation of it may be wrong.

"Minds are like parachutes: they only work when they are open"

"Through the course may change sometimes, rivers always reach the sea"

these are all excellent quotes Girl do you mind if i borrow your first one?

Cyberzero: That is exactly why i started this thread to see how people think and how willing they are to let there minds ponder the things that other people don't pay any attention to

My new quote is:

"A man without knowledge of his roots is like a man who knows nothing about himself"

I love this quote because it is telling everyone to know who you truly are, to know everything about yourself, you must first know your past and the past of those who came before you.

Creedy: Die! Die! Why won't you die?
V: Beneath this mask there is more than flesh. Beneath this mask there is an idea, Mr. Creedy, and ideas are bulletproof.
Oh wow, I love that one.

Here's one of my faves.
Paul Dirac: Pick a flower on Earth and you move the farthest star.

Brigands of the world, neither east nor west has sated them. They plunder, they butcher, they steal; these things they falsely name 'empire', and where they make a desolation, they call it 'peace'.
It's my favourite Tacitean quote - I think it was used about the Iraq war by someone.

Anyway, first post: Hello!:toast:

I love this quote because it is telling everyone to know who you truly are, to know everything about yourself, you must first know your past and the past of those who came before you.
thats bullshit you dont need to know about where your family comes from to know who you are its completely irrelevant. you are tied to your family only by direct relationships and genes, both of which are contained entirely within yourself

No, it's not bull to truly be aware of the struggle, to know all about your past and present you must be in tune with what used to be as well as what currently is happening.
Like some people wouldn't be who or where we are today if not gor our ancestry. Like me being an African American i would have half the things i have if it wasn't for my African American ancestor's courage so deny that.
So like i said who i am ties in with who they were. They are part of the reason i work hard to maintain my 4.0 gpa because they fought so that i may live their dream so i may be treated as a human being.

so tell me again that it doesn't matter

"It was curious to think that the sky was the same for everybody, in Eurasia or Eastasia as well as here. And the people under the sky were also very much the same--everywhere, all over the world, hundreds or thousands of millions of people just like this, people ignorant of one another's existence, held apart by walls of hatred and lies, and yet almost exactly the same--people who had never learned to think but were storing up in their hearts and bellies and muscles the power that would one day overturn the world." - George Orwell, 1984
"No question now, what had happened to the faces of the pigs. The creatures outside looked from pig to man, and from man to pig, and from pig to man again; but already it was impossible to say which was which. - George Orwell, Animal Farm
Now that those 2 are out of the way...

An insincere and evil friend is more to be feared than a wild beast; a wild beast may wound your body, but an evil friend will wound your mind.
Holding on to anger is like grasping a hot coal with the intent of throwing it at someone else; you are the one who gets burned.

"No human thing is of serious importance." - Plato

"How would you like a job where, every time you make a mistake, a big red light goes on and 18,000 people boo?" - Jacques Plante (re: hockey)
