First RMT (OU Rain)

Hello, and welcome to my first RMT! A little intro about myself, i have played pokemon since a young kid and have always loved it. up until a year i have only played
the story and then a very limited amount of battles with my friends. but in the past year i have started to play around on pokemon online and pokemon showdown and i
have been struggling, but i am starting to get a bit better. For my first RMT, i thought i would make a rain team, something i always seem to like using. So i put Politoed
along with pokemon i like and also benefit from the rain onto a team and here's the outcome. Lets go!

images

Politoed w/ Leftovers
Modest Nature
Ability: Drizzle
EVs: 252 HP / 252 SpDef / 4 SpAtk
-Perish Song
-Scald
-Protect
-Ice Beam

I like this politoed because like all Politoeds, it sets up rain, which about half of my team benefits from in some way. Next, he can prevent the opponent from setting up too
many Calm Minds or DDs etc. using Perish Song, which seems to be alot less common than I have seen in the past. Ice Beam is to take out threats like Hydreigon and walls like Gliscor.
And finally Protect is simply used to scout moves, let a burn do a little bit of damage, or to run off a turn of Perish Song.

Ferrothorn w/ Leftovers
Brave Nature
Ability: Iron Barbs
EVs: 252 Def / 248 SpDef / 8 Atk
-Gyro Ball
-Power Whip
-Leech Seed
-Stealth Rock

Ferrothorn in the rain seems like the only viable way to use him. With his 4x weakness to fire, being in the rain can really save your ferrothorn's behind.
But now to the moves. This set is mostly standard, with gyro ball working well considering the extreme slowness of Ferrothorn combined with a brave nature.
Power Whip, just a strong grass type move to destroy anything doesn't resist it. Leech Seed, heals Ferrothorn up a bit and can force the opponent to switch out.
And Lastly, Ferrothorn is my SR user of the team, using the move mostly when a switch is predictable.

Gengar w/ Life Orb
Timid Nature
Ability: Levitate
EVs: 252 SpAtk / 252 Spe / 4 HP
-Shadow Ball
-Pain Split
-Sludge Bomb/Thunder
-Giga Drain

Gengar has one real purpose. And that is simply to spin block. As long as i can keep up my SRs, I feel pretty confident in almost any battle.
Gengar's moveset is as follows; Shadow Ball has decent power and it is also a STAB move for Gengar. Pain Split seems just like a good way to restore health
while also damaging my opponents. Its been a bit of a debate on what my 3rd move choice is, want to use Sludge Bomb because of the fact it is again one of Gengar's
STAB moves and would be helpful against things like Celebi. But Thunder would be helpful on his moveset because it utilizes the rain making it 100% accurate. But Gengar's
final move I decided would be Giga Drain, which i thought would be useful for taking out threats like Terrakion and also and bulky water types while also healing my Gengar.

Scizor w/ Life Orb
Adamant Nature
Ability: Technician
EVs: 244 HP / 252 Atk / 12 SpDef
-U-Turn
-Pursuit/Bullet Punch
-Superpower
-Swords Dance

Scizor is my main sweeper of this team. I generally send him out on a grass or steel type, then predicting them to switch out, i use a swords dance to raise
my attack, and then scizor is ready to do some work. U-Turn is if i just want to get outta there and still do some damage. Debating on what i want for my second move, whether its
Pursuit or Bullet Punch. I like both because they use Scizor's ability. Both are pretty standard on him. Pursuit trapping would be nice, but the priority Bullet Punch seems useful as well. I'm leaning
more towards Bullet Punch, but i'm not certain yet. Superpower, i mean come on once i have a SD up, nothing is going to want to take a Life Orb Superpower.
Lastly, Swords Dance just to bring up my attack so Scizor can put the beat down on.

images

Landorus-T w/ Choice Scarf
Naive Nature
Ability: Intimidate
EVs: 252 Atk / 240 SpDef / 16 SpAtk
-U-Turn
-EarthQuake
-Hidden Power Ice
-Superpower

I really like Landorus-T. He is a force to be reckoned with. He plays no games. Intimidate encourages a switch. U-Turn so i can get outta there and just still do some damage just like Scizor.
EQ so i can hit Heatran and things like that with a hard STAB move. HP Ice just seemed fitting, and Superpower absolutely messes you up.

Porygon-2 w/ Eviolite
Bold Nature
Ability: Trace
EVs: 252 HP / 252 Def / 4 SpDef
-Ice Beam
-Thunder
-Thunder Wave
-Recover

My Wall of the team. Porygon can take the hits and can deal them out decently as well. When Chandelure or Heatran thinks they can bring the fire on Scizor or Ferrothorn,
I can easily switch Porygon in, Trace the Flash Fire, and absorb the Fire type move. Chandelure can't even touch Porygon with either of its STABs now.Ice Beam can hurt plenty of Pokes hard.
Thunder over Thunderbolt because of the rain. Thunder Wave slows down the speedy Pokes. and Recover to make sure my Porygon lasts a while.

Hi

This is a nice team however it needs some work. First of all, you should really change your Gengar set. Gengar really enjoys two things that you don't have in your current moveset: Focus Blast and Substitute. With Focus Blast, Gengar can hit all the Pokemon that resist Shadow Ball for AT LEAST neutral damage, including things that would otherwise destroy it, like Tyranitar. The ability to hit Steel types and Tyranitar is very important for Gengar as it helps it be difficult to switch into. You should use it over Giga Drain as it grants almost no useful coverage alongside Shadow Ball. Substitute is great on Gengar as it forces a lot of switches that you can take advantage of by setting up a Substitute, which works very well with Pain Split. Gengar is very frail so it enjoys Substitute's shielding. Use it over Sludge Bomb as Gengar doesn't need the additional STAB, as it has amazing coverage with Shadow Ball+Focus Blast alone.

One thing you might have issues with is opposing Rain abusing Water types, especially Keldeo. While you have Ferrothorn to resist Water attacks, Keldeo has super effective coverage against it which means it can't wall it. Furthermore, while Porygon2 can take Secret Sword quite nicely, it actually takes a ton of damage from Hydro Pump in Rain and will be 2HKOed, meaning that you can't switch into it. One thing you could try to fix that issue is using a Latias over Porygon2. Latias can switch in very easily into Keldeo and most Water types, alleviating your weakness to it. Furthermore, Latias provides you an additional Rain abuser with Rain boosted Surfs. It can check a number of things that you seemed to be using Porygon2 for, such as Thundurus-T.

One other problem with your team is that your scarfer is quite slow. While Landorus-T is a great Pokemon, it's not very good for a revenge killer, as its base Speed is only 91. With the EVs you're using, you will probably not outspeed anything fast which is really a shame for a scarfer. I think that since your team is fairly slow, you should try using a faster scarfer. On Rain teams, the best available is probably Keldeo. It can use Rain boosted Water moves to hit hard while also being fast and having great coverage, revenge killing a ton of common threats.

Swords Dance Scizor is quite a nice Pokemon, but you should try using some Speed on it. I suggest you shift 112 HP EVs to Speed, which will allow Scizor to outspeed Specially Defensive Heatran, allowing you to smash it with Superpower.

You should try using a Sassy nature on Ferrothorn, as it rarely ever needs the extra power from Brave, while the extra Special Defense from Sassy will come in handy very often, especially against Dragon types and opposing Rain teams.

Lastly, try to max out the Defense on Politoed. Politoed enjoys max Defense as it can tank physical attacks more easily with it, and it's more often the target of Physical hits than Special ones. You can also use Toxic instead of Ice Beam, which cripples Jellicent, Ninetales, etc..

Here are the sets you should use:
Latias @ Life Orb
Levitate
Timid
EVs: 4 HP / 252 SpA / 252 Spe
~Draco Meteor
~Surf
~Psyshock
~Recover

Keldeo @ Choice Scarf
Justified
Timid
EVs: 4 HP / 252 SpA / 252 Spe
~Hydro Pump
~Surf
~Secret Sword
~Hidden Power Ice

Good luck!
