Floatzel Discussion

I am finally back from vacation (which was great ^.^) and made this Floatzel thread because it is my favorite Pokemon and the other one I made is old/sucked. ;(

Name: Floatzel/Floatsel
Classification: Sea Weasel Pokemon
Height: 3'07, Weight: 73.9 lbs. (60 base power Grass Rope not counting weakness)
Male: 50%, Female: 50%
Stats: 85 HP/105 attack/55 defense/85 sp. attack/50 sp. defense/115 speed
Trait: Swift Swim - speed doubles in rainstorm

Physical Movepool [good attacks]:
Ice Fang
Quick Attack
Pursuit
Aqua Jet
Crunch
Focus Punch
Return/Frustration
Brick Break
Payback
Waterfall

Special Movepool [good attacks]:
Hidden Power
Ice Beam
Surf/Brine
Focus Blast

Supporting Movepool [good attacks]:
Agility
Bulk Up
Baton Pass
Toxic
Taunt

I think Floatzel has a pretty good mvoepool, but its too bad it doesn't get attacks like Earthquake or Stone Edge. I also don't get why it doesn't get U-Turn/Swords Dance, attacks that most flexible/clawed Pokemon get.

Floatzel @ Choice Band
Nature: Jolly (+speed, -sp. attack)
EVs: 252 attack/252 speed/4 hp
-Waterfall
-Ice Fang
-Crunch
-Aqua Jet

IMO, this is the best Floatzel moveset. It works best as a starter, since it could OHKO things like Azelf and Gengar with Crunch and hit things hard like Ninjask with Aqua Jet. It still has problems with Jolteon, though.

Floatzel @ Salac Berry
Nature: Jolly (+speed, -sp. attack)
EVs: same as above
-Waterfall
-Bulk Up
-Substitute
-Baton Pass

A good friend made this moveset for me, and it works like EspyJump, I guess.

So, what do you guys think about my new thread? I worked really hard on it, so discuss/debate!~ <333

i like floatzel as well. i considered using him for my wifi team. BTW you could use agility instead of bulk up on that BP set.

i keep lolling at your 'could be banned status'
BP doesn't really work with Bulk Up because most things that use physical moves can hit pretty hard, and it doesn't have a decent defense stat like Espeon. Choice Band is probably your best bet with its limited movepool, just pick any four moves that suit your team best. Its Speed allows it to outrun a bunch of non-AScarf stuff, and its Attack is pretty decent.

So mean @ first comment! >:[

And I hate GF for making its movepool so crappy! It would have gotten U-Turn or at least Earthquake or something.

That "epsyjumpish" set you posted doesn't need all that attack, as you'll either be bulking up to raise it or passing that said bulk up. Needs more defensive stats, really (Every bulk up adds a whopping...68 DEF with your EV spread), but I dont think the idea would work anyways, as Floatzel is about as frail as you'd expect a "Sea Weasel" to be. Those stats really don't lend themselves to a bulk up / substitute set at all.

EDIT: Then again, there aren't many Pokemon that can pull off the BP-Bulkup-Sub combo, and this guy is, sadly, the best of them (outside of Ubers). Whatever.

Ugh. It doesn't help the poor guy out that his movepool is absolutely abysmal, either. I don't see this thing getting much use at all outside the rare BPer and the subpar CBer, and even then it doesn't really pass anything well or boast any moves that will do actually do damage besides waterfall.

He's just not threatening/sturdy enough for the BP set to work anywhere outside of UU, although I can see it working reasonably well there.

Bulky Ground types (Donphan, Hippowdon, Rhyperior, etc.) don't fear it's Waterfall much and their Earthquakes are at least a 2HKO, easy OHKO if CBed.

I'd stick with the BP set, maybe with Ice Fang over Bulk Up to hit Jumpluff who Floatzel outspeeds. It would make a decent starter as it seems likely Eruption Typhlosion will be common in UU, so Floatzel gets a chance of a free Sub to pass right off the bat.

Finishing off slower stuff with Waterfall and passing Subs is it's best use, in my opinion.

Its cool and all, but its very fragile.

I think

Floatzel @ Choice Band
Waterfall
Pursuit
Ice Fang
Focus Punch

CB Pursuit is so good, maybe even Floatzel can abuse it.

Actually, Espeon has 65 Base HP and 60 Base Defense vs. Floatzel's 85HP/55Def, and when you add the fact that Floatzel actually has higher base speed at 115 vs 110, it can technially work somewhat like EspyJump in DP I guess. It's tough to say because Espeon gets the Weavile shaft, but actually has high initial SpD (base 95) where Floatzel sucks on both accounts lol.

I would switch either EspyJump or FloatzJump (this is obviously for ease of reference so shut up) into pokemon like Milotic, for a comparison, but we'd have to see what Floatzel could really switch into easily in DP because even Skarmory would Peck its bad initial defenses easily.

I might actually consider Taunt: switch into Blissey, Bulk Up on the Switch, Taunt stupid stuff like Skarmory, Waterfall stuff like Swampert, even Taunt Gyarados who can't do anything at all, and really not be afraid of anything too much besides Choice Scarf Gengar since with 361 speed max you can BP out of a lot. Sceptile is like one of only a few pokemon who can "safely" switch into Taunt/Bulk Up/Waterfall/Baton Pass and Weezing I suppose but it won't want to Thunderbolt a Rhyperior who may or may not be EVed to outspeed its attempts at WoW...I actually really like that set lol and I would probably use it so for posterity:

Floatzel (M) @ Leftovers ** Six Flags!
Trait: Swift Swim
EVs: 240 HP / 52 Atk / 216 Speed
Nature: Jolly
- Baton Pass
- Bulk Up
- Taunt
- Waterfall

This can be downright dirty if you don't switch in the right pokemon. 352 speed here is to get Timid non-Scarf Gengar, if it becomes evident that tying the other base 115 pokes like Raikou, Starmie and Azelf is desirable it's easy to go max. Skarmory's dumb ass gets Taunted and BPed from probably, Gyarados literally can do nothing like I said above thanks to Taunt so it can't switch in at all, Swampert is probably going to get straight BPed from after the Bulk Up. This isn't too easy to get in but thanks to Bulk Up, 354-361 Speed and the nature of most pokes that threaten it speed wise not liking the prospect of a STABbed Waterfall from base 105 Attack, I can see this really, really working well in the right hands. Unlike popular subbers who have no reliabe way of recovering their HP in a sandstorm in Espeon, Raikou depending on HP and Jynx, etc, Floatzel doesn't fear Ground/Steel Types at all after its stat up move, so yeah, I like this set a whole damn lot lol

Congratulations Kristy, you've actually managed to really catch my eye with something and make me want to use it — most people can't say that lol.

Theme Park with a bunch of waterslides, if I'm not mistaken...I've actually been there either once or no times at all lol and may be confusing it with Cedar Point or something equally obscure to some

That set proves how good a move Taunt is. It shouldn't be hard to stick a few good recipients of a Bulk Up on your team, depending on what switches in on Floatzel.

I think Tyranitar is a great idea (DD set) if Skarmory comes out. Pass a couple of Bulks Ups and you've got a Tyranitar with +2 Attack/Defense and +1 Special Defense, making it a lot easier to set up DD. Electivire is good for the obvious Electric switch-ins and for Weezing Thunderbolts.

Six Flags is actually just a massive amusement park that specializes in Roller Coasters. I'm right by the original one (Six Flags over Texas). But the franchise has since expanded to greater heights.

Anyways, I will definitely use Floatzel in my ingame team, but his defenses really don't match what I want to do 'competitively'. Lopunny just has him beat in cuteness. Too bad he couldn't have been like Buizel.

Actually, the Six Flags where I live is a water park (sort of), so I guess it works!~

And when I first saw Floatzel's minisprite, I was hoping that it would be some wizard otter thing with long whiskers like Alakazam's. :P

Still... I love that set and I can't wait to use it! Is there some other good set for Floatzel?

I am surprised to see that Floatzel is a potentially useful Pokemon. I may even consider using him on my main team because of his typing, and potential. Thanks for the great topic.

A good design and he didn't look too bad, I just couldn't come up with anything really good for him to use in OU. Bulk Up passing is very appealing, though.

Yeah, I'm so glad Jumpman made a set for him to use and be useful in OU! He's probably the only good looking Pokemon there (no offense, OU Pokemon :X).

I thought he would be stuck in the lower tiers like my other favorites.

He'll be BL if his best option is baton-pass support (and without godlike defenses).

Crunch, Brick Break, Waterfall, and Ice Fang aren't that bad attacking options from his attack and speed. Pursuit and Aqua Jet are nifty too.

That bulk up set really raised my opinions on this ... weasel.

At first when it came up, everyone said the same thing : CB.
However, now that jump has taken a hand into this thing, this FloatJump looks cool too.

Firstly, I still dont understand why you have a "I could be banned" thing Kristy, but I hope it goes soon. I miss PMing you.

Next, Unfortunately, I cant see Floatzel being a top tier pokemon, however, I believe that it can cause a surprise in Standard, particularly Jumpman's set. Personally, Kristy, I would love to see you take down a pokemon like HERACROSS/Skarm/Bliss/Rhyperior/Garchomp/Tyranitar/Other Overrated pokemon using Floatzel in someway, purely because of the amount of people that mocked you for liking it, and because those pokes are the pokes that such "Elite" trainers would use. Personally I think you are more "elite" if you use pokemon like Floatzel and Tauros, but most wouldnt agree, because theyve got caught up in the comfortable, blind niche

<Alper> i like how everybody was KIRSTY HARKA UR DUMB WEAK POKEMON BIZEL SHIT
<Alper> and jumpman made a post
<Alper> now everybody is "kristy id love to see you beat retards using bog standards with cute pokemon like floatzel ^_____^ also ur cute"

even Taunt Gyarados who can't do anything at all

Gyarados can still Earthquake or Stone Edge though which will hurt before Bulk Upping, and Stone Edge CH will hurt afterwards. Otherwise I agree that Floatsel can be pretty good sometimes under the right circumstances. It has "switchineritis" though, but the handful of Milotic will help.

Theme Park with a bunch of waterslides, if I'm not mistaken...I've actually been there either once or no times at all lol and may be confusing it with Cedar Point or something equally obscure to some

That's Cedar Point, I've been before.

Floatzel has its place, which is in the UU enviornment I think most would agree on that point. The problem for OU(sorta) is its Attack and Speed are just good enough to have you almost think it could work in OU, then you see its terrible defenses and realise sure, it can dent a lot of things, but it usually ends up getting KOed fairly quickly. My Main Concern being I am sure there are a bunch of things that would survive hits (even from Choice Band) but come right back and be able to OHKO Floatzel with some strong attack...
For that reason I do also like the Bulk Up set, its never all that hard to find something to pass Attack and Defense to either.

But I do Agree with what Tauros said... If played right this thing could probably take down a lot of stuff before toppling over. And you get a sense of satisfaction by using something more uncommon to great effect.
