Gallade (Update)

when a type name is directly followed by the word "type", as in (Normal-type) a hyphen is used.

i noticed this mistake a couple of times in your anal, for example, in the first sentence:
tiff competition with Heracross and Lucario, Gallade may not be your primary choice when you want a powerful Fighting-type

Placeholder for GP check.

Edit: Done. Unfortunately, the grammar, spelling and capitalisation in this article are rather poor. It would have been nice to see it at least put through spell-check before it was posted. Therefore I consider it highly likely that this will require 3 or more grammar checks.

Changes are in bold and removals in red. Gender-related changes have been put in blue as the standards are being debated. Try to be consistent throughout your analysis in this respect until a final decision has been made.

[Overview]

Due to stiff competition with Heracross and Lucario, Gallade may not be the your primary choice when you want a powerful Fighting-type Pokemon (hyphenation looks dumb but I’m not allowed to remove it!). However, Gallade has many interesting qualities that make him worth a spot on your team. First off, Gallade has STAB Psychic moves to differentiate himself from Lucario and Heracross Swords Dance Lucario and Heracross sets, as well as the ability to run Ice Punch and Stone Edge at the same time; Heracross does not learn Ice Punch, and Lucario rarely finds room for both moves. (could mention higher attack than Lucario) due to not access to Extreme Speed like Lucario does, and Heracross doesn't possess the move. Gallade also has access to the move Trick, which allows him to cripple walls Heracross would not normally be able to overcome, such as Gliscor. However, Gallade does have some major drawbacks. Gallade's speed is really average by OU standards, which is not always a good thing. He is outrun by many things, and unlike Lucario, he does not have the ability to use Extreme Speed to hit fast and frail sweepers. Gallade's physical defense is also lacking, meaning it’s (he’s) easy prey for things like Scizor. Despite these faults, Gallade is still a very powerful Pokemon, and not one to be handles taken lightly.

[Set]
name: Swords Dance
move 1: Swords Dance
move 2: Close Combat
move 3: Psycho Cut
move 4: Stone Edge / Ice Punch (Surely shadow sneak deserves a slash somewhere, even if it cannot KO many full-health Pokemon. Additionally, running both Stone Edge and Ice Punch was played up in the overview, and isn’t even on the set)
item: Life Orb
nature: Jolly/ Adamant
evs: 4 HP / 252 Atk / 252 Spe

[SET COMMENTS]

Gallade may not be a commonly used sweeper in the OU tier due to his poor speed, but if underestimated he can rip huge holes in opposing teams. With Swords Dance boosting Gallade's great Attack stat (implicit from grammar standards page) from 349 to 698, Gallade can do incredible damage with his near-perfect type coverage and a 120 Base Power STAB attack. For example, after a Swords Dance, Skarmory is always OHKOed by Close Combat with Stealth Rock on the field, even when Gallade is running a Jolly Nature.

By virtue of his Psychic secondary typing, Gallade can effectively use Psycho Cut to handle Ghosts and Fighting resists Pokemon who resist Fighting-type moves. and Psycho Cut can be used without fear of running into an immune Pokemon, because Dark-types would never think of switching into Gallade for fear of a powerful Close Combat. Gallade also has access to Ice Punch, unlike Heracross, which he can use to KO Gliscor; while Gliscor fails to even have a chance to cannot OHKO Gallade unless he has significant attack investment and an Attack-boosting nature. Even though Ice Punch deals with Gliscor, Stone Edge is still a good choice for dealing with Dragonite and Gyarados, who are both OHKOed, even after Intimidate in Gyarados's case, while you outspeed both unless they run a Speed-Boosting nature. In this case, you can still speed tie with Dragonite, but have no chance to outspeed Gyarados. Stone Edge may seem the superior option against Zapdos too, but due to its poor accuracy and effective 4 PP with pressure, Zapdos can easily stall Gallade out of it.

[ADDITIONAL COMMENTS]

Sometimes it can be hard to find an opportunity to set up Swords Dance with Gallade, but he (it’s odd that you used “he” here) still hits pretty hard thanks to his 125 Base Attack and Life Orb. Therefore, it is possible to forego Swords Dance and simply use a coverage move in its place. If you wish to ditch Swords Dance, Leftovers and Lum Berry are options over Life Orb, because Gallade does have nice special bulk and Life Orb diminishes that somewhat, but Gallade really likes the extra power. In this regard, Hypnosis is an option to use against slower Pokemon to receive a free turn for set-up, along with Night Slash and Close Combat. (this sentence seems out of place; are we talking with or without Swords dance?) This provides neutral coverage against everything but Toxicroak and Heracross, but Gallade really likes to have 3 attacking moves to deal with certain Pokemon so it isn't recommended.

Night Slash can be used over Psycho Cut, but it gains no notable 2HKOs over it, so Psycho Cut is generally a better option. Shadow Sneak can be used for priority as well. The only notable OHKOs Shadow Sneak receives after a Swords Dance are against Gengar and Starmie after Stealth Rock damage, but only Gengar is notable because he can KO Gallade in one hit with a Life Orb-boosted Shadow Ball. Starmie may seem like something good to use Shadow Sneak for, but Gallade survives even a Life Orb Hydro Pump and can OHKO with Stone Edge after a Swords Dance, making Shadow Sneak a wasted moveslot. Shadow Sneak can still be useful for picking off weakened Pokemon as a late-game sweeper, but Lucario outclasses him in that regard due to ExtremeSpeed.

The choice for the fourth moveslot depends on who you want to beat. Ice Punch hits Zapdos, Celebi, Gliscor, and Dragonite hard, but Stone Edge lets you beat Gyarados, even after Intimidate, as well as Dragonite. As stating previously, Stone Edge doesn't really work well against Zapdos. It is also worth noting that a neutral Close Combat does more than a super effective Ice Punch by 30 Base Power, and that a 2x resisted not very effective Close Combat outdamages a neutral Ice Punch by 15 (do the maths) base power. Therefore it is always better to use Close Combat unless Ice Punch is dealing 4x damage. Stone Edge outdamages a not very effective 2x resisted Close Combat though.

Jolly is the preferred nature as it allows you to outspeed all neutral-natured base 90 Speed Pokemon and below, such as Adamant Dragonite and Lucario. It also allows you to outspeed non-Choice Scarf Heatran, which is a huge bonus. Adamant is an option for pure power, but Gallade is then outsped by some crucial Pokemon, like the aforementioned positive-natured Heatran.

[set]
name: Choice
move 1: Close Combat
move 2: Psycho Cut
move 3: Ice Punch / Stone Edge
move 4: Trick
item: Choice Band / Choice Scarf
nature: Jolly / Adamant
evs: 4 HP / 252 Atk / 252 Spe

[SET COMMENTS]

Gallade has the ability to carry a Choice Item and either be an offensive battering ram, dealing massive damage with Close Combat, or having the ability to be a decent revenge killer, being able to outspeed an Adamant once Dragon Danced Dragonite With a Choice Item, Gallade can be an offensive battering ram, dealing massive damage with Close Combat, or a revenge killer able to outrun an Adamant Dragonite with one Dragon Dance. In general, it is better to use a Choice Band than Choice Scarf, because the offensive power is amazing. Gallade is a better Choice Bander in general because of the higher Attack Stat, which better suits it for the hit-and-run style combat the Choice Banders are meant to play. Gallade also has an advantage over Heracross in the form of Ice Punch and Psycho Cut, which allow him to take out Gliscor with good prediction, and deal decent damage to Rotom-A without resorting to Night Slash. Finally, Choiced Gallade has the advantage of being able to Trick away his choice item when it is not wanted anymore, such as onto potentially crippling a wall.

Close Combat is easily the move you should use the most on this set, with a monstrous 523 attack on the Choice Band set and an effective 180 Base power. Close Combat is really useful for creating huge holes in the opponent’s team, greatly damaging even those who resist it. Psycho Cut hits hardGhost-types such as Rotom, and other Pokémon who take little from Close Combat , Psycho Cut hits them hard pretty hard. Be careful against the Rotom formes however, as Gallade hates Will-o-Wisp. The third slot, once again, is dependent on who you would like to beat. Offensive Gyarados is always OHKOd by -1 Stone Edge with Choice Band; (semicolon) while it falls short against bulky Gyarados, Stone Edge also beats Dragonite and has more power then Ice Punch. Ice Punch allows you do deal with Celebi, Dragonite, and Gliscor, and Zapdos but has it is a poor choice unless it is 4x super effective or you don't want the defense drops from Close Combat. Trick as the final move is an interesting option, and makes Gallade different from his fellow Fighting-type Choice Banders. This Choice Band set is meant to be played in a hit-and-run style, and not as a sweeper.

Choice Scarf is still a viable item to make Gallade a decent revenge killer, but it is pretty outclassed by Choice Band in general. Choice Scarf should run the same moveset as Choice Band, but has the ability to revenge Adamant +1 Dragon Dance Dragonite. Choice Scarf should be used with a Jolly nature to outspeed Jolteon and the aforementioned Dragon Dance Dragonite.

[ADDITIONAL COMMENTS]

X-Scissor is an option to hit Celebi and other bulky Psychic-types harder than the options listed, but its use is really limited to that. Shadow Sneak is also another option and can be used to pick off weakened foes on the Choice Band set, but has relatively almost no use on the Choice Scarf set. If you decide to use Shadow Sneak, be wary of locking yourself into it, because it makes Gallade easy set-up fodder. Another option is Night Slash, which can be used to deal damage to bulky Psychic-types, but Close Combat outdamages a super effective Night Slash, so it should only be used in cases where Close Combat is resisted and Night Slash hits for super effective damage, such as against Psychic-types.

Jolly is the preferred nature on both sets, but once again, Adamant is still an option if you prefer raw power over outspeeding and or tying with threats like Heatran and Dragonite. With the Choice Scarf set, if you decide to run an Adamant Nature, a spread of 64 HP / 252 Atk / 192 Spe is plausible to add to Gallade's natural bulk and outspeed Choice Scarf Tyranitar and all positive speed base 115s, but max speed is good to tie with neutral +1 Dragonite. Also, if using Choice Scarf, Zen Headbutt is an option for the flinch rate, but the 10% accuracy loss generally outweighs the 20% power increase on most sets, and Gallade is generally too slow to abuse the Flinch with its (his) speed.

[TEAM OPTIONS]

Most Gallade sets like paralysis support because Gallade isn't particularly fast, so a Pokemon that can provide it is appreciated. Jirachi gets special mention because it covers all of Gallade's weaknesses. Gallade also likes help from Tyranitar, to trap annoying Ghosts that switch in on Close Combat, but be warned that with Life Orb and Tyranitar's Sand Stream Gallade will lose 16% of his HP per turn. In addition, be careful of switching Tyranitar directly into Rotom Appliances, because they often carry Will-O-Wisp. Other good teammates for Gallade would be Heracross and Lucario. They are very similar, and therefore have similar counters, and can wear each other’s counters down.

As with most offensive Pokemon, Gallade likes Stealth Rock, which gives him the ability to score crucial KOs such as the guaranteed OHKO against Skarmory at +2 with a Jolly nature and Life Orb. Gallade also appreciates a cleric as a teammate, as its (his) best switch-ins are Ghost-types, all of whom have the ability to use Will-o-Wisp. Celebi gets mention because it can use Heal Bell to cure status and provide Paralysis support. Blissey can do the same, but she generally slows down the momentum of offensive teams. Be warned that Celebi shares weaknesses with Gallade as well. Gallade can OHKO Scizor with Close Combat, but he hates taking a Bullet Punch which will OHKO Gallade with very little prior damage. Therefore, Magnezone isn't a bad choice as a teammate, as he also covers Gallade's weaknesses, and can provide paralysis support if you need it too.

[OPTIONAL CHANGES]

Gallade has a pretty wide movepool, mostly consisting of gimmick moves and moves used better by other Pokemon, but they can be amusing when used correctly. Gallade's slow speed can aid him in using Trick Room, and it is a monster under it, but there are better Pokemon to set it up. Nonetheless Gallade is by no means a bad Trick Room abuser. Destiny Bond can be used against slower opponents if Gallade is at low health to take the opponent down with him, but he is generally too slow to abuse it. Bulk Up can make for an amusing set with investment in HP and Special Defense, bolstering Gallade's weak Defense and already amazing Attack. Earthquake and Leaf blade are an option, but Earthquake is generally outclassed by Close Combat in all cases, and a 2x super effective Leaf Blade hits the same as a neutral Close Combat, but has merit for being able to demolish Swampert.

Gallade gets Wish from an NYC event so it is an interesting option, but it is illegal along with Egg Moves. (period) Gallade as a wisher is generally outclassed by other Wishers though. Hypnosis was already mentioned earlier, but it has a rather disappointing accuracy. Along with Hypnosis, Will-O-Wisp and Thunder Wave can be used to make an interesting status set. Finally, Encore is an option to attempt to get a free turn against a support Pokemon.

[COUNTERS]

Gallade has no "counters" in the strictest sense of the word, as he can 2HKO every switch-in with the appropriate move. Ghost-Types are the best bet, as they can switch in for free against against Fighting-type attacks and hit Gallade back with super effective Ghost attacks. Gengar can switch into Swords Dance or Close Combat and OHKO with Shadow Ball as long as he is holding a Life Orb; (semicolon) however he must watch out for Shadow Sneak. Rotom appliances can survive anything and cripple him with Will-o-Wisp, but must be careful not to switch into Night Slash or Psycho Cut. Celebi laughs at anything but Ice Punch, Night Slash, and X-Scissior, in addition to having the ability to cripple Gallade with Thunder Wave, or do some damage with Leaf Storm. Gallade hates Scizor due to Bullet Punch OHKOing him with some prior damage. Any fast physical attacker is a good choice to prey on Gallade's weak physical Defense. Gliscor also gets particular mention from being able to take anything but Ice Punch with ease, but it needs significant Attack investment and an Attack-boosting nature to OHKO Gallade with Aerial Ace. Alternatively, Earthquake OHKOes after a defense drop from Close Combat.

Edit - actually, in hindsight, it isn't bad. It's just a bit iffy at the end, which is what leaves a lasting impression. Sorry if I came across as rude. Also, I missed one error in the first paragraph; ExtremeSpeed is one word.

Wow I didn't realize it was that bad. Thanks for all the edits, I applied them. In regards to Shadow Sneak, the QC team decided it was AC worthy.

edit: applied additional edits.

[Overview]

Due to stiff competition with Lucario and even Heracross, Gallade may not be the primary Fighting-type of choice for your team; however, Gallade has many interesting qualities that make him viable to fill a certain niche in your team. To differentiate himself from his Fighting-type counterparts, Gallade has access to powerful STAB Psychic moves and can run both Ice Punch and Stone Edge at the same time if needed, something Heracross cannot do while Lucario rarely finds room for both. Gallade also has access to Trick, which allows him to cripple troublesome walls he may not be able to normally overcome, unlike Heracross and Lucario.

As fine and dandy as this all sounds, Gallade does have some major drawbacks. Gallade's Speed is decidedly average by OU standards, meaning he is outrun and revenge-killed by many Pokemon, and, unlike Lucario, does not have access to powerful priority to hit fast and frail sweepers. Gallade's Defense is also lacking, meaning he’s easy prey for powerful physical threats and priority users, such as Gyarados and Scizor, respectively. Despite these faults, Gallade is still a very powerful Pokemon in the right hands, and he is not one to be taken lightly.

[SET COMMENTS]

Gallade may not be a common sweeper in the OU tier due to his middling Speed, but he has the potential to rip huge holes in opposing teams. With Swords Dance boosting Jolly Gallade's high Attack stat from 349 to 698, he can do incredible damage with his near-perfect type coverage and a 120 Base Power STAB attack. For example, after a Swords Dance, Skarmory is always OHKOed by a Life Orbed Close Combat with Stealth Rock on the field, even when Gallade is running a Jolly nature.

By virtue of his Psychic secondary typing, Gallade can use Psycho Cut to handle Ghost-types and Pokemon who resist Fighting-type moves effectively. Furthermore, Psycho Cut can be used without fear of running into Dark-type Pokemon (the only type immune to Dark), because they risk being maimed by a powerful Close Combat. Gallade also has access to Ice Punch, a move Heracross fails to learn, which he can use to hit Pokemon such as Celebi, Gliscor, and Zapdos for significant damage. Also, Gallade's typing gives it an advantage over Lucario when dealing with the aforementioned Pokemon, as he is not completely destroyed by their respective super effective coverage moves. Even though Ice Punch deals with all of those Pokemon, Stone Edge is still a good choice for dealing with Gyarados, who is outsped, unless he runs a Speed-boosting nature, and OHKOed even after Intimidate. Stone Edge also retains super effective damage against Zapdos, but with its poor accuracy and Zapdos's Pressure and superior Speed, Zapdos can easily PP stall it with Roost.

[ADDITIONAL COMMENTS]

Sometimes it can be hard to find an opportunity to set up Swords Dance with Gallade, but he still hits hard thanks to his base 125 Attack and Life Orb. Therefore, it is possible to forgo Swords Dance and simply use a coverage move in its place. If you dislike Life Orb's recoil, Leftovers and Lum Berry are effective alternatives to give Gallade more longevity. Another possible moveset Gallade can use is Swords Dance, Hypnosis, Close Combat, and Night Slash. This can potentially allow Gallade to incapacitate the opponent, set up Swords Dance, and with his two attacks that provide near-perfect type coverage (only resisted by Toxicroak and Heracross), attempt to sweep the opposing team. However, Gallade really likes having three attacking moves to deal with certain Pokemon, so it isn't highly recommended.

Night Slash can be used over Psycho Cut to hit Ghost- and Psychic-types hard, but it doesn't gain too many notable 2HKOs or OHKOs, so Psycho Cut is generally a better option. Shadow Sneak can be used for priority as well, but the only Pokemon it can OHKO after a Swords Dance are Gengar and Starmie after Stealth Rock damage. Shadow Sneak can still be useful for picking off weakened Pokemon as a late-game sweeper, but Lucario outclasses him in that regard due to the superior ExtremeSpeed.

It is also worth noting that a neutral Close Combat does more than a super effective Ice Punch by 30 Base Power, and that a 2x resisted Close Combat outdamages a neutral Ice Punch by 15 base power. Therefore it is always better to use Close Combat unless Ice Punch is dealing 4x damage. Stone Edge outdamages a 2x resisted Close Combat though.

Jolly is the preferred nature as it allows you to outspeed all neutral-natured base 90 Speed Pokemon and below, such as Adamant Dragonite and Lucario. It also allows you to outspeed positive-natured Heatran, allowing you to overcome it with Close Combat. Adamant is an option for pure power, but Gallade is then outsped by some crucial Pokemon, like the aforementioned Heatran.

Gallade appreciates Pokemon who can spread paralysis around the opponent's team, so teammates such as Celebi and Jirachi are good to accomplish this. Since Lucario and Gallade are so similar, you can run Swords Dance Lucario alongside this Gallade so they can weaken each other's counters and make it easier for one another to sweep. Rotom-A and Gengar can be problematic to Gallade due to their higher Speed, immunity to Close Combat, and STAB super effective Shadow Balls, so Choice Scarf Tyranitar, arguabley the best Pursuit-user in OU, can be used to trap and kill them; however, it's inadvisable because Gallade will then lose 16% of its health in a turn, factoring in LO recoil and sandstorm damage. Other Pursuiters to look into include Snorlax, Metagross, and Scizor.

[SET]
name: Choice
move 1: Close Combat
move 2: Psycho Cut
move 3: Ice Punch / Stone Edge
move 4: Trick
item: Choice Band / Choice Scarf
nature: Jolly / Adamant
evs: 4 HP / 252 Atk / 252 Spe

[SET COMMENTS]

With a Choice item, Gallade can be an offensive battering ram, dealing massive damage with Close Combat, or serving as a revenge killer who can outrun an Adamant Dragonite after one Dragon Dance. In general, it is better to use a Choice Band than Choice Scarf, because the offensive power Gallade boasts is amazing. Gallade also has an advantage over Heracross in the form of Ice Punch and Psycho Cut, which allow him to take out Gliscor with good prediction, and deal decent damage to Rotom-A without resorting to Night Slash. Finally, Choiced Gallade has the advantage of being able to Trick away his Choice item when it is not wanted anymore, potentially crippling a troublesome wall.

Close Combat is the move Gallade should use most often, as when it's backed up by a monstrous 523 Attack with Choice Band set and an effective 180 Base Power factoring in STAB, even targets who resist it take heavy damage. Psycho Cut hits Ghost-types such as Rotom-A and other Pokémon who take little from Close Combat. Be careful against the Rotom formes, however, as Gallade hates Will-O-Wisp. The third slot, once again, is dependent on whom you would like to beat. Offensive Gyarados is always OHKOed by -1 Stone Edge with Choice Band, and while it falls short against bulky Gyarados, Stone Edge also hits Zapdos harder than Ice Punch with its higher Base Power. Ice Punch, on the other hand, allows you do deal with Celebi, Dragonite, and Gliscor, and still hits Zapdos super effectively. Trick as the final move is an interesting option, as it differentiates Gallade from his fellow Fighting-type Choice Banders.

Choice Scarf is still a viable item to make Gallade a decent revenge killer, but it is outclassed by Choice Band Gallade and other Choice Scarf revenge killers in general, such as Jirachi and Flygon. Choice Scarf should run the same moveset as Choice Band, but has the ability to revenge-kill Adamant +1 Dragonite with a Jolly nature.

[ADDITIONAL COMMENTS]

X-Scissor is an option to hit Celebi and other bulky Psychic-types harder than the options listed, but its uses are really limited to just that. Shadow Sneak is another option that can be used to pick off weakened foes on the Choice Band set, but has almost no use on the Choice Scarf set. If you decide to use Shadow Sneak, be wary of locking yourself into it, because it makes Gallade easy set-up fodder. Another option is Night Slash, which can be used to deal super effective damage to bulky Psychic- and Ghost-types.

Jolly is the preferred nature on both sets, but once again, Adamant is still an option if you prefer raw power over outspeeding or Speed tying with threats like Heatran and Dragonite. With the Choice Scarf set, if you decide to run an Adamant nature, a spread of 64 HP / 252 Atk / 192 Spe is plausible to add to Gallade's natural bulk and outspeed Choice Scarf Tyranitar and all positive base 115 Speed Pokemon, but max Speed is still useful to Speed tie with a neutral-natured +1 Dragonite. Also, if using Choice Scarf, Zen Headbutt is an option for the flinch rate, but the 10% accuracy loss generally outweighs the 20% power increase on most sets, and Gallade is generally too slow to abuse the flinch with his mediocre Speed.

Once again, Gallade loves paralysis support, especially Choice Band variants, so any Pokemon who can provide it is his friend. Choice Band Heracross can also work nicely alongside Gallade, as they both have similar counters whom they can wear down for each other with powerful Close Combats. You should also have a good switch-in to Scizor, as he may be troublesome with his Bullet Punch and U-turn. Heatran makes a great partner in this reguard, being able to switch in on anything Scizor has besides Superpower, which Gallade resists. Magnezone can also work to eliminate Scizor, and resists all of Gallade's weaknesses.

[Team Options]

Most Gallade sets like paralysis support because Gallade isn't particularly fast, so a Pokemon who can provide it is appreciated. Jirachi gets special mention because it covers all of Gallade's weaknesses and can abuse the paralysis itself with Iron Head. Gallade also likes help from Tyranitar to trap annoying Ghosts who switch in on Close Combat, but be warned that with Life Orb and Tyranitar's Sand Stream, Gallade will lose 16% of his HP per turn. In addition, be careful of switching Tyranitar directly into Rotom-A, because they often carry Will-O-Wisp. Other good teammates for Gallade include Heracross and Lucario. They are all very similar, therefore having similar switch-ins, and so they can wear down each other’s counters.

As with most offensive Pokemon, Gallade likes Stealth Rock, which gives him the ability to score crucial OHKOs such as against Skarmory with a +2 Jolly Life Orbed Close Combat. Gallade also appreciates a cleric as a teammate, as his most common switch-ins are Ghost-types, all of whom have the ability to use Will-O-Wisp. Celebi gets mention because it can use Heal Bell to cure status and provide paralysis support. Blissey can do the same, but she generally slows down the momentum of offensive teams. Be warned that Celebi shares weaknesses with Gallade as well. Scizor can be difficult for Gallade to deal with with his STAB Bullet Punch, which will OHKO Gallade with very little prior damage; therefore, Magnezone isn't a bad choice as a teammate, as it easily deals with Scizor, covers Gallade's weaknesses, and can provide paralysis support.

[Optional Changes]

Gallade has a pretty wide movepool, mostly consisting of gimmick moves and moves used better by other Pokemon, but they can be amusing when used correctly. Gallade's slow Speed can aid him when using Trick Room, and he can be a monster under it, but there are better Pokemon to set it up. Destiny Bond can be used against slower opponents if Gallade is at low health to take the opponent down with him, but he is generally too slow to make full use of it. Bulk Up can make for an effective set with investment in HP and Special Defense, bolstering Gallade's weak Defense and already amazing Attack. Earthquake and Leaf Blade are options, but Earthquake is generally outclassed by Close Combat and and a 2x super effective Leaf Blade hits just as hard as a neutral Close Combat, but has merit for demolishing Swampert.

Gallade gets Wish from an NYC event so it is an interesting option, but it is illegal along with any Egg Moves and is outclassed by other users of Wish, such as Jirachi and Vaporeon. Hypnosis was already mentioned earlier, but it has a rather disappointing accuracy. Along with Hypnosis, Will-O-Wisp and Thunder Wave can be used to make an interesting status set. Finally, Encore is an option to attempt to get a free turn of set-up against a support Pokemon.

[Counters]

Gallade has no "counters" in the strictest sense of the word, as he can 2HKO every switch-in with the appropriate move. Ghost-types are the best switch-ins, as they can switch in for free against Gallade's Close Combat and hit back with super effective Shadow Balls. Rotom-A in particular can survive Gallade's moves and cripple him with Will-O-Wisp, but it must be careful not to switch into Night Slash or Psycho Cut. Celebi laughs at anything but Ice Punch, Night Slash, or X-Scissor, and can cripple Gallade with Thunder Wave or do some damage with Leaf Storm. Gallade also hates Scizor due to Bullet Punch OHKOing him with some prior damage.

Any fast physical attacker is a good choice to prey on Gallade's weak physical Defense. Gliscor also gets particular mention for being able to take anything but Ice Punch with ease, but it needs significant Attack investment and an Attack-boosting nature to OHKO Gallade with Aerial Ace. Alternatively, Earthquake OHKOes after a defense drop from Close Combat.

I finally finished this. Most of my changes were basically helping your sentences flow together and concising the analysis because you've got a bit of fluff here and there. Also, you should go through your analysis and look for these ’ marks and change them to these ' marks. Just do a find search and replace them. Now because I've made many changes to this analysis, I need to request another GP check to make sure the analysis is top-notch. Overall, though, good job on your first analysis!

[Overview]

Due to stiff competition with Lucario and even Heracross, Gallade may not be the primary Fighting-type of choice for your team; however, Gallade has many interesting qualities that make him viable to fill a certain niche in your team. To differentiate himself from his Fighting-type counterparts, Gallade has access to powerful STAB Psychic moves and can run both Ice Punch and Stone Edge simultaneously, something Heracross cannot do, while Lucario rarely finds room for both. Unlike Heracross and Lucario, Gallade also has access to Trick, which allows him to cripple troublesome walls he may not be able to normally overcome.

However, Gallade does have some major drawbacks. Gallade's Speed is decidedly average by OU standards, meaning he is outrun and revenge killed by many Pokemon, and, unlike Lucario, does not have access to priority moves. Gallade's Defense is also lackluster, meaning he's easy prey for powerful physical threats and priority users, such as Gyarados and Scizor, respectively.

With Swords Dance boosting Jolly Gallade's Attack stat from 349 to 698, he can do incredible damage with his near-perfect type coverage and a 120 Base Power STAB attack in Close Combat. For example, after a Swords Dance, Skarmory is always OHKOed by a Life Orb Close Combat with Stealth Rock on the field, even when Gallade is running a Jolly nature.

By virtue of his secondary Psychic-typing, Gallade can effectively use STAB Psycho Cut to handle Ghost-types and Pokemon who resist Fighting-type moves. Furthermore, Psycho Cut can be used without fear of running into Dark-type Pokemon (the only type immune to Psychic), because they risk being maimed by a powerful Close Combat.
