Game Freak hit with another hack, info leaking

I dunno I think the whole fan design theory is just a theory, unless we have evidence from this leak stating they take that into consideration?
It's the reasoning given in the linked image.

The triplets always felt 14 to me. It's about the right age range for what I figured. They do seem a fair bit younger in this draft than in the final, though. Maybe they got aged up, or they decided the final design shouldn't come off as "young".
Elesa being 15, less so. That draft of her in that artwork specifically is probably from her time as a 17 year old, so wouldn't surprise me if she's meant to be older in the final draft.

As someone who likes Lenora's design when she's not wearing the apron, I really think they should have kept that original design for her. It's kind of wild they veered so hard away from the 'archeologist'/'scientist' design to the apron.

Yeah the old Lenora design is, to me at least, literally the one and only incidence of a cut design in this entire leak I fully agree with people being upset about. Even putting aside the iffy connotations of final design this just looks so much better and more "professional", like I could see this woman on a university's About Us page

Honestly checks out. Maybe it's just me but I always felt like there was a noticeable jump in technological advancement between DPPt Sinnoh and Unova/Kalos. Even if you set aside in-game size and think purely from a lore/worldbuilding perspective the gap between, say, Jubilife City and Opelucid City is palpable, or the kinds of wacky sci-fi gadgets Team Plasma and Flare use

It's a little interesting that DP isn't as concurrent with GS like RS with RB.

It couldn't have ever been concurrent, DP references the Red Gyarados event as something that happened long enough ago to have had a documentary made about it and an NPC in Hearthome City mentions that Professor Elm "recently announced" that eggs kept with a trainer will hatch. HGSS correspondingly has a scene where Jasmine talks about considering taking a trip to Sinnoh.

I always read that opening as a news report, since they called it a special report, rather than a documentary but checking pokecorpus you're right it was one, there's a NPC that clarifies it's a documentary

Not that I think GF actually factored this in to any timeline considerations, but I always figured that Johto and Sinnoh had to be at least a little de-synced so that Grandma Wilma could move from Blackthorn to Route 210.

A long time ago I probably would have balked at the idea that there’s a whole decade between DP and BW (although, as with anything in these leaks, we don’t necessarily know if the facts in these documents are still relevant or canonical), but over time I started playing with that idea due to that Porygon Dex entry that puts its creation at about 20 years before SM, and now it’s basically my preferred estimate, so having these development documents affirming that is fun.

On another note, apparently Sun & Moon really were planned to have a postgame feature where Alola gets a set of Gyms, with Ryuki taking point as the character running the program and tasking the player with scouting suitable Leaders. Makes me wonder if those empty construction lots across Alola really were meant for that… and if so, it makes what USUM did with them all the more disappointing. :blobsad:

Timeline confirmed (already pretty much canon, but nice to get a proper confirmation). I don't think the gap between Gen IV and Gen V was ever definitively assessed so it's interesting that it's ten years specifically.
I'm very happy that this was something that was finally confirmed and that they didn't separate the remakes as a separate universe. And that they correctly placed DPP after GSC/HGSS but within the same year

Even if it was a news report that would still mean the DP takes place after,

What did USUM do?

Even if it was a news report that would still mean the DP takes place after,

Not necessarily. Even if you assume that a hypothetical news report happens soon after Ethan/Lyra/Kris catches the Gyarados, the Johto protagonist still has the Radio Tower, Blackthorn, the League, and all of Kanto left to deal with, so Lucas/Dawn’s journey could start there and still be reasonably described as taking place at the same time. And it’s also possible that the Red Gyarados might have been spotted earlier on in Ethan/Lyra/Kris’s journey — them encountering it for the first time isn’t strictly the same thing as it appearing for the first time.

What did USUM do?

Basically just treated them as miscellaneous plots

Two were used for Alola Photo Clubs, two for Surf Association houses, one for the Pokémon Fan Club, one for the Kantonian Gym (the phenomenally watered-down version of what they apparently had in mind), and one was rather bewilderingly still left as a construction site

How I always saw it was if it was a report then it would still be possible to take place in the same approximately the same spot. The Red Gyarados was spotted but not found it was either around for a little bit and appeared intermittently so it was before the protagonist resolved it or only recently stopped rampaging (and also no one was on record to say that it stopped, captured or that the champion/a child was involved) and the protagonist could still be finishing up their johto tour while Dawn/Lucas set out on their adventure.

Aw really? That would have been pretty neat. I guess they scrapped that idea for the Looker plotline. And makes Ryuki make more sense; he always stuck out a bit. I wonder if maybe the scrapped idea of scouting out leaders might've inspired the Title Defense gimmick in anyway.

When things settle down I hope all these documents stuff gets properly archived. TCRF can only do so much, reddit is fickle and google docs/discords are easy to just waste in the wind.

Tbf the Gen 6 iteration did basically make it in, it was just a game later than planned (ORAS rather than XY)
I do suspect that the thoughts that people come up with when it comes to making your own gyms (wow its my own gym I can customize fully just like a real one!) in the games that didnt have the concept is much different from the reality of what it'd have been like (ie: almost exactly like the ORAS secret bases)
