HO would probably be much more effective if Explosion still kept the defense cut :D
Hyper offense pretty much never uses explosion unless it has extensive ways of dealing with blind switch ins. Team preview makes it easier, but if you explode on the wrong thing you may have fucked yourself. Lastly the 'best' ho pokemon usually dont learn explosion anyway (just random pattern).
If you need Explosion to deal with anything you are doing it wrong. Only use Explosion when you need a suicidal U-Turn, kinda.
I've tried some. I would not depend on weather, having the weather changed in the wrong time can really mess up your momentum.
One day I faced some U-Turn/Volt Switch team that had a LO Raikou. That beast was incredibly annoying, most stuff that are immune to Volt Switch couldn't take Weather Ball or Aura Sphere.
