PERFECT GALAR

Approved by G-Luke
I was going to open this post up with an intro about Dexit, but I don't think I need to lecture anyone on how the decision to restrict Sword and Shield's playable roster to whatever appears in its home Pokedex has caused a huge stir in the community at this point, everyone has seen it. And yet for all the rancor, there is a subset of people, myself included, who sees an opportunity in this risk. A chance to start fresh with a competitive metagame many feel has become swamped by bloat and power creep in its more recent iterations such as Sun and Moon OU, with all of those ills now being forcibly purged. The current form of Gen 8 OU has some roadblocks such as the debate over Dynamax and some of its most powerful abusers, as well as certain deadly new picks such as Galarian Darmanitan. Despite this early-meta turbulence, however, I still believe there is potential for something truly spectacular to be made from this foundation, and I'm sure that with proper tiering Gen 8 OU can be made into that ideal meta. And yet I wish to go even higher...

This is where Perfect Galar comes in. This is a miscellaneous changes mod much in the lieu of Sylvemons with a very simple but very ambitious goal in mind: To make a Sword and Shield OU metagame where every single fully evolved Pokemon in the Galar Pokedex has a unique, valuable niche.

As stated earlier, this will be accomplished via community-driven slates. But what exactly might happen in these slates?

Stat Re-Adjustments: Obviously, some Pokemon will have to get their stats buffed to keep up. 535 will be the BST cap for all normal Pokemon with no more than +50 points for any Pokemon. Anything already above that threshold cannot have their BST heightened further. Legendaries' BSTs must also be kept the same.

Custom Elements: In the interest of accessibility, the introduction of custom abilities, items and moves will be kept to a minimum. Instead, we will try to buff pre-existing stuff to the best of our ability, keeping their original purpose in mind (eg no turning ring target into a blank special attack buffer).

Other Pokemon Buffs: Aside from editing stats, Pokemon can have altered ability sets and movepools. A Pokemon's typing may not be changed at all, and its basic role cannot be changed either (eg no making Shiinotic into a fast sweeper).

Pokemon-Exclusive Traits: I have already stated my intention to avoid custom elements as much as possible. However, in extenuating circumstances where a Pokemon cannot be given an interesting, valuable role with these restrictions in mind even after multiple revisions, they may be given exclusive buffs. These could come in multiple ways, more specifically custom Gigantamax forms, exclusive items and abilities.

Legality: For the most part only the original Galar dex + the first 35 Home-exclusive mons are legal. However a select few DLC Pokemon have been allowed in via slates. All DLC tutor moves are also legal.

Anywho, here's the submission template:

Pokemon Name:
Role:
(e.g. sweeper that relies on x set-up move, special attacker for y type). Again, do not stray too far from the roles they were initially meant to occupy.
Stat Changes (If Any):
Ability Changes (If Any):
Movepool Changes (If Any):
What sets this Pokemon apart from ones with similar roles?:
This is the most important part of any submission. I'm not expecting a thesis paper, but you need to provide some pretty compelling reasoning for why when building a team one would use this Pokemon over other options. For example, if you're trying to buff Blastoise, you need to explain to me what substantial niches your submission has over other Shell Smash sweepers and/or bulky Waters depending on which aspect you want to focus on. "Oh it has x coverage move which can hit y for a bit more damage than other mons" is not good enough.

And one more thing...
Here is the spreadsheet. Upon looking at it, you may notice that I've already formulated a substantial revamp to the Dynamax mechanic! I would advise reading through it, for it may affect how you go about your submissions. We will not be banning the mechanic, instead trying to keep it balanced via the measures such as the ones I have put in place already and other nerfs/readjustments if necessary. Also, here is a Discord server.

Now Playable On...

Slate #1: Emergency Revamps!

This slate is reserved for fully-evolved Pokemon at or below 455 BST!!!! These poor souls are in need of a buff and fast! In accordance with the rules, do whatever it takes to make their niches truly stand out. Dugtrio and Diggersby are banned from being modified for fairly obvious reasons. You can also sub Wobbuffet, but that would likely entail a Shadow Tag nerf of some sort or an ability change entirely.

Cookie Butter

formerly the someone
Pokemon Name: Cherrim
Role:
Sun sweeper
Stat Changes: 70/60/70/87/78/85 (450) ---> 78/87/78/87/78/87 (495) (+8 HP, +27 Atk, +8 Def, +0 SpA, +0 SpD, +2 Spe)
Ability Changes:
Flower Gift - If this Pokemon is a Cherrim and Sunny Day is active, it changes to Sunshine Form and all of its stats are multiplied by 1.5.
Movepool Changes:
None.
What sets this Pokemon apart from ones with similar roles?:
Cherrim is a good pick over Venusaur for Sun teams due to many reasons. First, it can go mixed due to getting Solar Blade, Play Rough and a decent Attack stat. Secondly, under Sun, it's bulkier and hits harder than Venusaur. Even a mixed Cherrim (not fully invested) will hit harder than Venusaur. Thirdly, it naturally gets some good coverage like Pollen Puff, Play Rough and Dazzling Gleam that Venusaur doesn't.
However, this doesn't completely steal Venusaur's niche either. Cherrim is extremely reliant on Sun. Outside of Sun, Venusaur is bulkier and hits harder from the special side. When Sun is up, Cherrim may be bulkier and hit harder, but Venusaur is still faster. In Dynamax, Venusaur can get STAB Max Ooze to boost its Special Attack, while Cherrim simply can't do that. Overall, I think teams could choose between one or another depending on what's needed.

Pokemon Name: Rotom
Role: Dynamax Abuser, Fast Special Attacker, Hazard Removal
Stat Changes: +8 Def, +4 SpA, +8 Spd, +30 Spe. 50/50/85/101/85/121
Ability Changes: Levitate/Motor Drive/Reckless
Movepool Changes:
Aura Sphere, Sludge Bomb, Rapid Spin. Note: Rotom-Wash, Rotom-Mow, Rotom-Heat, Rotom-Fan, and Rotom-Frost do not get these new moves.
What sets this Pokemon apart from ones with similar roles?: Rotom is the name, Abusing Dynamax is it's game. able to abuse the Max Lightning's side effect of recoil to boost its moves with Reckless, it still suffers from lack of reliable recovery, as well as poor-to-mediocre defensive stats. on the high side, it still has a pretty banging Special Attack, and the 9th highest speed in the tier, outspeeding most top threats, such as Gyarados, and Hawlucha. While it shares the exact same speed tier with Boltund, Boltund is able to hit things on the physical side, while Rotom covers things on the Special. Rotom also carries an additional typing in ghost, allowing it to carry dual stab allowing it to hit Ground types for neutral damage, unlike Boltund. Overall, they play very similar roles, but can be used on different teams depending on what is needed.

Pokemon Name: Thievul
Role: Unburden Nasty Plot Abuser and Sweeper
Stat Changes (If Any): +30 Spd, +20 Sp Atk (Now 70/58/58/107/92/120)
Ability Changes (If Any): None
Movepool Changes (If Any):
None
What sets this Pokemon apart from ones with similar roles?:
Unburden Theivul with 120 Spd outspeeds Unburden Hawlucha when activated. With a Focus Sash, it can get a Nasty Plot off while Lucha tries to take it down, then revenge kill with a +2 Dark Pulse. Can also break Corsola-G, which is hard to do. It's like a Dark-type Espeon with Nasty Plot instead of Calm Mind and an insane speed tier.
Recommended set:
Thievul @ Focus Sash
Ability: Unburden
EVs: 252 SpA / 4 SpD / 252 Spe
Modest Nature
IVs: 0 Atk
- Dark Pulse
- Nasty Plot
- Parting Shot
- Mud Shot
This thing has an absolutely horrendous movepool. I would add moves, but I don't know what moves a deceptive fox could learn. Dark Pulse and Nasty Plot combined with Focus Sash and Unburden allows you to sweep teams unprepared, while Parting Shot is if you don't want to go there. Mud Shot is for speed control. Could come in handy, against Toxitricity especially.

Ability: Light Power

Pokemon Name: Morpeko
Role: Electric-type fast Physical Sweeper, speed snowballer via Aura Wheel
Stat Changes (If Any): 68 HP (+10) / 115 Atk (+20) / 68 Def (+10) / 70 SpA / 68 SpD (+10) / 97 Speed | 483 BST
Ability Changes (If Any): None
Movepool Changes (If Any): +Hone Claws, +Knock Off, +Play Rough
What sets this Pokemon apart from ones with similar roles?: While Morpeko retained its gimmicky Ability, Hunger Switch, Aura Wheel is nothing to scoff at; 110 Base Power and constant +1 Speed is pretty insane on its own, but then you had to take consider about the constant Electric vs Dark switching does to Hunger Switch. Even then, a consistent +1 Speed allows it to outspeed a vast majority of the Pokemon, especially after a second use. Morpeko can also stand out from Electric-type by Grass-type coverage against Ground-type, and among Dark-types with Psychic Fangs or Play Rough against Fighting-type.

Morpeko can put a pressure into an opposing team via Knock Off and a strong, 100% accurate and speed-raising attack, backed up with viable coverage. Aura Wheel isn't a contact move either, which means that Morpeko would not need to worry about Iron Barbs or other contact-based Abilities whenever Morpeko utilize this move. However, Morpeko is frail, which leave it vulnerable for revenge killers and priority moves (though the priority moves can be neutered with Dynamax + Psychic Terrain), and physical walls, provided that they are not hit by Taunt, can put a stop on its sweeping spree.

Pokemon Name: Thievul
Role: Special Stakeout Abuser, Nasty Plot Sweeper
Stat Changes (If Any): 80 (+10) / 58 / 77 (+19) / 100 (+13) / 90 (-2) / 100 (+10) (505 BST)
Movepool Changes (If Any): +Flamethrower, Sludge Bomb
What sets this Pokemon apart from ones with similar roles?: While Thievul is still not as strong as OU's resident Dark Pulse spammer in Hydreigon, it is actually capable of punishing switches even better thanks to the incredibly powerful Stakeout. This ability in conjunction with Parting Shot makes switching into this scheming fox a daunting task, for you might be getting nuked by coverage with doubled power (including better anti-fairy coverage in Sludge Bomb) or being pivoted on to another opponent that can take advantage of the attack drops inflicted by Parting Shot. That said, when it comes to immediate power, Hydreigon is the clear winner, who is also bulkier and capable of running mixed sets with its usable physical attack. Therefore, while Thievul can now make use of its ability to actually make one think whether to pick one or the other, it doesn't totally supercede its competitor.

Pokemon Name: Pincurchin
Role: Electric Terrain Supporter
Stat Changes (If Any): 83 (+35) / 91 (-10) / 95 / 91 / 85 / 40 (+25) (485 BST)
Movepool Changes (If Any): Spiky Shield, Taunt
What sets this Pokemon apart from ones with similar roles?: Pincurchin has no competition for its role, so all I had to do was actually make it good at that role rather than just being terrain fodder. The HP boost alone should allow it to actually be able to soak up a hit here and there with Spiky Shield being useful for scouting. The extra speed may seem redundant, but if you run Taunt you can actually outpace and 1v1 Ferropex, which is huge for companion sweepers like Hawlucha and Shift Gear Toxtricity who appreciate at least one of those mons being out of their way. With all the hype out of the way, make no mistake: Pincurchin's bulk still leaves a lot to be desired, oftentimes struggling a lot with offensive teams and especially against playstyles like Sand. But if you need something that can support your sweepers throughout the game or even just set up hazards and terrain and die, Pincurchin is your man more than ever before.

Pokemon Name: Noctowl
Role: Dynamaxer, Sweeper, Choice Scarf w. Tinted Lens
Stat Changes (If Any): 105 / 50 / 60 / 86 / 96 / 101 (502 BST: +9 HP, +10 Def, +31 Spe)
Ability Changes (If Any): Tinted Lens is released.
Movepool Changes (If Any): Sludge, Sludge Bomb, Sludge Wave, Volt Switch, U-Turn
What sets this Pokemon apart from ones with similar roles?:
./dt tinted lens
Noctowl is most similar to Togekiss as a Flying type dynamaxer - however Noctowl's Tinted Lens makes it better at either using Choice Items, threatening resists like Corviknight, and snowballing boosts. In exchange, Noctowl doesn't have the SpA or flinch ability to break through bulkier threats. Its higher speed gives it more opportunities against offensive teams, especially with Scarf.

Ability Changes (If Any): Tinted Lens is released.
Movepool Changes (If Any): Aeroblast*, U-Turn
*Assuming removed moves aren't 'custom'
What sets this Pokemon apart from ones with similar roles?:
./dt tinted lens
Noctowl can spam a more reliable flying move in Aeroblast, while unlike Butterfree retains Tinted Lens. Noctowl can abuse Nasty Plot + Max Airstream to break different things (notably resists) than Togekiss, like Corviknight However, Togekiss has a much higher SpA and the flinch chance to break through bulkier walls.
As a Scarfer, it can break through more offensive teams with its great speed tier, or Nasty Plot -> 3 dynamax turns.
Let's stray away from deleted moves and legendary signature moves in particular for now. Yes, I'll be considering nuked moves "custom" as we are adding something not in the actual games.

Pokemon Name: Perrsurker
Role: Tough Claws Swords Dance Sweeper
Stat Changes (If Any): 80 / 110 / 110 / 50 / 60 / 80 (490 BST: +10 HP, +10 Def, +30 Spe)
Movepool Changes (If Any):
Meteor Mash, Earthquake
What sets this Pokemon apart from ones with similar roles?: While not as great as Barbaracle due to its access to dual STAB and Shell Smash, its Steel typing and access to a powerful STAB to go off of Tough Claws makes it a worthy user of Swords Dance. It already has a good coverage movepool (Close Combat, Play Rough, Gunk Shot, Seed Bomb, Crunch), but it was missing Earthquake, so that helps. Dynamaxing also does some good to its Speed, and it doesn't have to worry about Max Starfall's Special Attack drop, but it also lacks recovery, so you better avoid it as much as possible. Its also not the best Speed tier either, and its mono-typing does leave a bit to be desired.

Pokemon Name: Qwilfish
Role: Hazard Support with Intimidate
Stat Changes (If Any): 85 / 95 / 85 / 55 / 65 / 95 (480 BST: +20 HP, +10 SpD, +10 Spe)
Movepool Changes (If Any):
Recover
What sets this Pokemon apart from ones with similar roles?: Being a Pokemon coveted with Toxic, a move that is very rare now (until HOME comes out), is something to be desireable. Its bulk is alright enough, helped by Intimidate a lot, and access to both Spikes and Toxic Spikes is always appriciated. Dynamax also helps its bulk, but its offensive movelist is limited. Oh, and it does have Swords Dance naturally for the 1st time since Gen 3.

Pokemon Name: Seaking
Role: Water Physical Attacker who can block electric moves.
Stat Changes: 80/102/65/65/80/108 (500)
Movepool Changes: Drill Peck, Aqua Jet, Fishious Rend (JUST KIDDING)
What sets this Pokemon apart from ones with similar roles?: Seaking hits what was once a very magical speed tier known as 108 base speed. With SD and Drill Run/Peck for excellent coverage, this thing really can say Fuck yea! You can go for Lightningrod if you think you'll need an electric check say for Dracozolt or Rotom-W, or Swift Swim if you really wanna go even faster. Most water types don't have the option to go water/Flying combo. Even Gyarados has to rely on bounce. And none of the physical water sweepers can check electric types, most of whom don't have grass coverage.

Though these Pokemon I compare it to don't do the exact same roles, they all mainly hit hard with water STAB.

Compared to Dracovish, Seaking lacks hyper compounded immediate power, but is faster and can boost. Compared to Gyarados, this thing is faster, at least before Gyara has a DDance or two, but can use reliable flying coverage and can abuse rain where the serpent monster cannot abuse as well.

Compared to Barraskewda, this thing may seem weaker... at least up front, Barra is faster and has Higher attack and still has Drill Run coverage,. but Barra cannot sword dance and cannot resist electric moves and is forced to use bounce for Flying moves.

Crawdaunt has terrifying upfront power and can use Knock Off terrifyingly well. Sure Seaking can learn Knock Off, but doesn't have Crawdaunt's power with it. Both can SD, but Craw is much slower without getting DDs under its belt.

As such, Seaking is a water physical Attacker who, unlike all of these mons, can resist BoltBeam combos.

You cannot give a Pokemon more than +50 to BST. For Seaking, this would mean its maximum potential BST would be 500.

Pokemon Name: Araquanid
Role: Bulky Attacker/Supporter
Stat Changes (If Any): 68/70/92/50/132/42 (454) -> 68/70/102(+10)/65(+15)/142(+10)/42 (489)
Ability Changes (If Any): N/A
Movepool Changes (If Any): +Life Dew
What sets this Pokemon apart from ones with similar roles?: Although it's still a little niche in what it does, the extra bulk is incredibly significant to help it during the Dynamax phase, as well as set up rain for its own water moves. With its special attack stat now being 65 instead of 50, it also gets that bit of extra hitting power on the special side as well instead of just physical. No longer does it have to settle for only using its physical move pool, since it has a pretty decent array of special moves as well. The extra move makes it quite a bit harder to kill, giving it a slightly better recovery than only the semi-reliable Leech Life or Giga Drain.

Compared to Toxapex, another Water-type tank, Araquanid has a significantly lower physical defense, but in exchange has a more powerful presence backing it up. Toxapex also has a more in-and-out approach to battling than Araquanid due to the former's access to Regenerator. Life Dew also gives it slightly worse recovery which, while not bad, also means that Araquanid has to use a more offensive approach anyways to make sure it doesn't lose as much of its slightly higher HP stat.

First Gen 8 post, let me know if I did anything wrong.

Pokemon: Alcremie
Role: Special Wall
Stat Changes: 85 (+20) / 60 / 85 (+10) / 110 / 121 / 74 (+10)
Movepool Changes: +Strange Steam, Moonblast, Knock Off
Ability Changes: Sweet Veil / Aroma Veil / Regenerator
What sets this apart from other Pokemon?: Its Fairy typing will help it against troublesome Dragons, Darks and Fightings like Kommo-o, Hydreigon, Morpeko, Hawlucha and Sirfetch'd. Regenerator also leaves it not dependent on Recover constantly for healing, and Strange Steam, Moonblast and Knock Off are for some better STABS and more utility moves, respectively. Lastly, the increased HP and Defense means it can switch in on some physical attackers, like the aforementioned Morpeko and Sirfetch'd, better.
Alcremie has a BST of 495. This makes it ineligible for this slate, which is for Pokemon with 455 BST or lower.

Pokemon Name: Araquanid
Role: Bulky Dynamax Attacker/Supporter (depending on moveset)
Stat Changes (If Any): 68/70/92/50/132/42 (454) -> 83(+15)/70/102(+10)/65(+15)/142(+10)/42 (504)
Ability Changes (If Any): N/A
Movepool Changes (If Any):
+Recover

I'm not sure about this one... It seems like you just made a better Toxapex. Mind explaining how it doesn't totally outclass it or otherwise nerfing it?

EDIT: Word of advice to all submitters: Please be more specific when listing your submission's role(s). Stuff like "Swords Dance sweeper" or "Dynamax abuser" is a bit too vague, it should ideally provide a sort of synopsis of what makes the Pokemon different from those with similar roles which you elaborate on in the "What sets this apart from other Pokemon" section.

Pokemon Name: Liepard
Role: Support / Prankster utility
Stat Changes (If Any): 104(+40)/88/50/88/50/126 (+10)
Ability Changes (If Any): none
Movepool Changes (If Any): Simple Beam, Disable, Parting Shot
What sets this Pokemon apart from ones with similar roles?: The only other Prankster users in Galar are Grimmsnarl (who uses it for set up opportunities) and Whimsicott (which uses it to inflict status/stall). Liepard uses their other Prankster to debuff the foe to create opportunities to come in. This mostly comes from Parting Shot due to the attack drops. There are other options though: Simple Beam is a form of ability surpression, which screws over so many Pokémon. Disable stops sweeps, and forces banded Pokémon out. Even in NatDex, Liepard is still the only Pokémon with Prankster and any of these moves.

Pokemon Name - Butterfree
Role - Quiver Dance Sweeper, Utility
Stat Changes - 80 / 35 / 70 / 95 / 80 / 85 (+20 HP, -10 Atk, +20 Def, +5 SpA, +15 Spe)
Movepool Changes (If Any): +Dazzling Gleam, +Moonblast, +Defog
What sets this Pokemon apart from ones with similar roles? - Butterfree sets itself apart Fromm Ribombee and Frosmoth by being able to run only 2 attacks, quiver dance and utility, as well as having a G-Max Form. It can remove hazards with Defog now, too. It heavily suffers from 4MSS though, as it has to either pick between Defog, Roost as reliable recovery or a 3rd coverage option. It’s 80 / 70 / 80 bulk is rather subpar, though, and 85 speed is not very high either.

Also, Ninjask absolutely hates this slate.
