whoops, conservative propaganda page quillette (known employer of milkshake man andy ngo) has been caught with its pants all the way down to its ankles. turns out that basic journalistic standards such as "fact checking" are of no concern to conservative publications as long as the narrative of an article serves their purpose. between this and andy ngo's claims that he was hit with "cement milkshakes" despite a total absence of evidence, is it perhaps possible that conservatives are being duped on the regular by those who claim to speak for them? in any case, next time you see a self-purported leftist rail against political correctness or whatever in some right-leaning publication or tv program (and this happens regularly, right wing media love that shit), ask yourself if perhaps it is too good to be true.

What exactly was supposed to be fact checked that wasn't? Was "Archie" supposed to fax them his driver's license? I really don't know the norms for this kind of reporting.

Publishing unverified opinions/articles that fits the publication's agenda tbh, seems like the norm in the current era. Obv this is a much more specific/targeted bait, but is this comprable to "trump was filmed being peed on by Russian prostitutes"?

Wouldn't left wing media love it if the opposite happens too?

To clarify: ok quilette is clearly a biased, extremist publication with a major right wing agenda. I don't think we can use this to draw serious conclusions about "right wing reporting credibility" exclusively. "Archie" said his goal was specifically to damage public opinion of right wing news, he's clearly suceeded.

So apparently, in light of the recent El Paso shooting and the firestorm of blame deflection that followed it, Walmart has agreed to remove displays for violent video games and movies... but refused to stop selling actual fucking firearms.

You know, I'm not even sure I'd agree with demanding that Walmart stops selling guns, but to cave in on the tired, debunked, and completely irrelevant issue of "muh video game violence" while standing ground against an issue that might actually be affecting violent crime statistics is indefensibly stupid and proves (as if we needed any more proof) that corporatism is parasitic and doesn't give a hint of a shit about anything outside of their profit margin.

aint that a kick in the head. powerful person who knows a lot of powerful people who have a lot of dirty little secrets commits suicide while on suicide watch, you'd almost believe it wasn't *really* a suicide haha. anyway that's the end of it all, we'll have a few months of ardent democrats saying trump was behind it, ardent maga ppl saying the clintons were behind it, the truth never comes out and everyone will forget. it is obvious to anyone who has not been completely poisoned by american propaganda that this case transcends the american political republican-democrat dichotomy which is exactly why epstein was so dangerous to politicians on both sides, unfortunately most people are in fact poisoned by american propaganda to the point where all they can do is point fingers aimlessly at whoever they dislike the most. for those who are a bit smarter than that, always remember this case as one of the very few moments in our lifetimes where it almost seemed like the american ruling class which has completely subjugated the people of the usa and the rest of the world felt genuinely threatened until, predictably, they eliminated the threat.

oh yeah also it's hilarious that they already ruled it a suicide before the body's even cold and an autopsy's been performed. they're barely even trying to cover this shit up anymore, it's like yeah hey he got killed but it's not like you guys are smart enough to figure out how any of this works so who cares lol. should also be obvious at once that ABC network fully conspired with the government by immediately ruling his death a suicide, they're not the only ones btw (and by not the only ones i mean literally the entire "mainstream media" as well as a good portion of prominent "alternative media" are corporate and government controlled, reality itself basically is a fabrication at this point)

How did India get here? How is it all right for a constitutionally democratic and secular, modern nation to blind scores of civilians in a region it controls? Not an authoritarian state, not a crackpot dictatorship, not a rogue nation or warlord outside of legal and ethical commitments to international statutes, but a democratic country, a member of the comity of nations. How are India’s leaders, thinkers and its thundering televised custodians of public and private morality, all untroubled by the sight of a child whose heart has been penetrated by metal pellets? This is the kind of cruelty we expect from Assad’s Syria, not the world’s largest democracy.

Historically, such an inhuman response to an uprising – to mass dissent – has been the province of empires and tyrants. A modern democratic nation rarely unleashes such violence, except upon victims whom it does not regard as its own people. It is quite clear that for India and its rulers, Kashmiris have been subjects and not citizens for as long as Kashmiris have refused Indian rule. You do not shower projectiles that target eyes and viscera on a people you consider your own. In snatching away the vision of Kashmiri children, the Indian state has decisively announced that it has only one message: you must be servile and submissive, and if you refuse, we will unleash our fury."

The American anti-abortion movement invented this kind of political gaslighting. The Catholic church, an unabashedly misogynist institution that to this day refuses to allow women into positions of power, had long opposed abortion (but not for all that long – until about 150 years ago, the Catholic view was that abortion was permissible through the first few months of pregnancy).

But evangelicals didn’t seem to think much about abortion until an earlier pet issue, racial segregation, began to fall out of favor. Around the same time, women’s social roles were rapidly changing. The birth control pill brought with it an avalanche of opportunities and freedoms, and women, finally fully able to have sex for fun and prevent pregnancy, took full advantage. The ability to delay a pregnancy – and later, the ability to legally end one – meant that women didn’t have to choose between romance and ambition (and it meant women could be choosier about romance, making a more considered decision about who and whether to marry)."

mods feel free to pm me if you have some problem w the content of the article being put here or post itt

new study out demonstrates that pro-lifer ideology is really a covert patriarchal evangelical cult operation, not that I ever doubted

also the police state arrested this dude in texas for 1,500 in student loan debt, i used to say we are a landlord-wage slave society but now i think we're getting close to a full regression to debtors' prison society. welcome to 1800 folks.

Something something correlation != causation. I'd imagine those who are pro-lifers are simply those who have the propensity for those other views as well. I mean, the whole "life begins at conception" thing is an idea I can get behind. I don't agree with it but I think reasonable minds can disagree on that. It's really the whole telling-others-what-to-do-with-their-bodies thing that I don't like about anti-abortionists. Pro-life is not anti-abortion; the article also clearly touches on that point.

Plus some of those questions suck ass and don't do much if any job at tracking sexist views. Access to birth control impacts women's equality? Questionable. There's a lot to hate surrounding the #MeToo movement even if its foundation is solid. I'd probably say "women" are too easily offended as an acknowledgement that people (including men and whatever nonconforming gender classifications you subscribe to) are too easily offended these days, though I understand the implication of the question and probably wouldn't answer affirmatively in a shitty survey trying to peg me as a sociopolitical deviant. Probably. Maybe I wouldn't care since I'm still one anonymous number in a sea of statistics.

(Also, nobody ever cares about men's reproductive rights. Obviously it would be ridiculous to force a woman to carry to term a baby she doesn't want to satisfy daddy's desire for a child, yet countless men are forced to financially support children they didn't want because mom wanted to keep it. And the multiple cases of female-on-male rape leading to pregnancy speak for themselves. It takes two people to make a baby. This is where Myzozoa goes on a rant about me always turning everything into a men's issue and how much of a disgusting pig I am for wanting true equality rather than "equality" for only women.)

we cud go back and forth all year abt principles of gender equality, but i dont get paid to educate/therapize ppl on this site, if you're at the 'im not sure if birth control matters for gender equality' there is not much information I can give you about it that you don't have access to if you went to high school. suffice to say that it would behoove anyone who doesn't want to inhabit such a relationship with gender in our society as such a user to watch this video on the topic of the supposed opposition between gender equality as it is espoused in feminisms and mra online circles.

particularly part 3

see, a nice tasty video, no long histories to read. pretend it's a prager U vid and that later on you plan to 'ironically' post it in a serious thread

edit: if you do want to read a book about it, bell hooks wrote The Will to Change: Men, Masculinity, and Love that I recommend, most all of the interventions in this video are derived from its essays.

certainly not because your paragraph-length attempt at insulting my intelligence.
a wild projection of your own stuff onto my post, which is easily verified by anyone that has ever been in a chat with you these last few years, just stop

or better yet go get the prager U vid about how birth control has actually harmed equality, ill wait

so whos insulting who's intelligence in their posts again?

the long read on how brown ppl having sex became more scary than climate change (hint it has something to do w 24-7 propaganda that climate change is a hoax and immigrants are where that fear should be directed)

Above all, consider Canada, where the Justin Trudeau government declared its intention to increase the flow of immigrants, and whose economy had the strongest growth in the G7 in 2017 – 3% a year, as opposed to the 2.3% in Trump’s US (although the gap disappeared in 2018, thanks to Trump’s massive tax giveaways to the rich and to corporations). Hate crimes against Muslims actually went down in Canada in 2017; in its southern neighbour, they jumped by 5%.

This shows that when countries safeguard the rights of their minorities, they also safeguard, as a happy side effect, the rights and economic wellbeing of their majorities, or other minorities within the majority. If a judiciary forbids discrimination against, say, Muslims, it is also much more likely to forbid discrimination against, say, gay people. The obverse is also true: when they don’t safeguard the rights of their minorities, every other citizen’s rights are in peril.
"

ignoring the part where canada is claimed to be rly great, cause theyd probably be the same or worse if they had guns, this contradicts the usual nonsense we see every week out of mindnumbers like TIK that claim muslim immigrants threaten gay citizen's rights

"
"But where does the hate come from? How was it generated? Our time is one in which, after a postwar openness to migrants, that hatred has resurfaced. Where does this fear and loathing of migrants come from? It didn’t start with the yobs on the street, the skinheads marching in leather, the torch-bearing white supremacists. The hatred has been manufactured. It is an Old World idea. While the colonisers ruled over the colonies – and the slave owners in the New World over the slaves – they also began to find it essential to distinguish themselves from their subject peoples, to hold themselves morally, intellectually and civilisationally superior to them. Otherwise, where would the colonial enterprise end? In intermarriage and race degradation. "

"But the greatest facilitator of race-hatred against refugees isn’t a tabloid; it’s Facebook. Researchers at the University of Warwick recently studied every anti-refugee attack – 3,335, over two years – in Germany. They found that among the strongest predictors of the attacks was whether the attackers are on Facebook. The social network aids the dissemination of rumours, such as that all refugees are welfare cheats or rapists; and, unmediated by gatekeepers or editors, the rumours spread, and ordinary people are roused to violence. Wherever Facebook usage rose to one standard deviation above normal, the researchers found, attacks on refugees increased by 50%. When there were internet outages in areas with high Facebook usage, the attacks dropped significantly."

surprised that facebook is actually so statistically significant (youtube id have thought) but once ppl are tapped into a stream of false information they don't get out easily

also heres the dude the dumbass crew on this site ('we're nonviolent, now let me tell you my reasons for hating women and brown ppl' crew) has poured their energy into defending itt, planning a felony assault on a business in portland that often serves perceived leftwing ppl. ppl like this won't even learn after being milkshaked, rly makes u think

From that^

"The undercover video of Ngo marks another round of controversy for Quillette this month, which was hoaxed by a left-wing prankster just a few weeks ago. An op-ed writer posed as a Marxist construction worker who was critical of the Democratic Socialists of America—but the hoax was soon revealed as a scheme meant to embarrass Quillette by tricking them into publishing an article by a writer who doesn’t actually exist. "

Looks like the stooges got stooged. I hope nobody was reading this rag as an alternative to those mainstream fake news outlets.

Perhaps this could be a result of Canadian gdp crashing 15% since 2013 and not because immigrants are magic economy boosters?

"“In one experiment, participants of both sexes described an individual who brought a reusable canvas bag to the grocery store as more feminine than someone who used a plastic bag—regardless of whether the shopper was a male or female,” marketing professors Aaron R. Brough and James E.B. Wilkie explained at Scientific American. “In another experiment, participants perceived themselves to be more feminine after recalling a time when they did something good versus bad for the environment,” they write."

these studies are just secret academic sjw plots to accuse all men of sexism, that is def why corporate marketing is embracing marketing their products with these insecurities in mind. the men are doing fine. tho they wont buy vegetables that arent packaged in the shape of a football, im sure theyre doing great

https://www.theguardian.com/fashion...f-leather-is-fuelling-the-fires-in-the-amazon

"This has been evident for a decade. In 2009, Greenpeace published Slaughtering the Amazon, a report that should have – and nearly did – change everything. The report concluded that the demand for leather was fuelling the destruction of the Amazon in its own right, not just accidentally as a by-product of beef. Researchers found cattle ranchers were clearing rainforest illegally despite laws protecting it, including Brazil’s “forest code”. One hectare of rainforest was being lost to ranches every 18 seconds. Through a murky supply chain, Brazilian beef companies were supplying leather to leading global fashion brands and retailers, across price points and across retail markets."

Long article on how 'alt-right'/intellectual dark web discourse follows the rhetorical styling of antebellum pro-slavery advocates including John Wilkes Booth.

"
But such clear statements were not the norm. Proslavery rhetoricians talked little of slavery itself. Instead, they anointed themselves the defenders of “reason,” free speech and “civility.” The prevalent line of argument in the antebellum South rested on the supposition that Southerners were simultaneously the keepers of an ancient faith and renegades — made martyrs by their dedication to facts, reason and civil discourse.
It might sound strange that America’s proslavery faction styled itself the guardian of freedom and minority rights. And yet it did. In a deep study of antebellum Southern rhetoric, Patricia Roberts-Miller, a professor of rhetoric at the University of Texas at Austin, characterizes the story that proslavery writers “wanted to tell” between the 1830s and 1860s as not one of “demanding more power, but of David resisting Goliath.

They stressed the importance of logic, “facts,” “truth,” “science” and “nature” much more than Northern rhetoricians did. They chided their adversaries for being romantic idealists, ignoring the “experience of centuries.” Josiah Nott, a surgeon who laid out the purported science behind black inferiority, held that questions like slavery “should be left open to fair and honest investigation, and made to stand or fall according to the facts.” They claimed that they were the ones who truly had black people’s best interests at heart, thanks to their more realistic understanding of human biology. “No one would be willing to do more for the Negro race than I,” John Wilkes Booth wrote shortly before he assassinated Lincoln. He alleged that any pragmatist could see that freeing black people into a cold, cruel world would actually cause their “annihilation.” Slavery, another Southern thinker argued, was natural, because if whites could work the sweltering South Carolina rice fields, they would. The “constitutions” of black men, on the other hand, were “perfectly adapted.”

They loved hyperbole. Events were “the most extraordinary spectacles” that had “ever challenged the notice of the civilized world,” “too alarming” and threatened “to destroy all that is valuable and beautiful in the institutions of our country.” All over, they saw slippery slopes: Objecting to the extension of slavery into new territories, Lincoln’s longtime position, would lead inexorably to miscegenation.

...
"
The most important thing to know about them, they held, was that they were not the oppressors. They were the oppressed. They were driven to feelings of isolation and shame purely on the basis of freely held ideas, the right of every thinking man. Rep. Alexander Sims (D-S.C.) claimed that America’s real problem was the way Southerners were made to suffer under “the sneers and fanatic ebullitions of ignorant and wicked pretenders to philanthropy.” Booth’s complaint, before he shot Lincoln, wasn’t that he could no longer practice slavery, something he’d never done anyway. Instead, he lamented that he no longer felt comfortable expressing “my thoughts or sentiments” on slavery freely in good company."
