Getting tested (medically) for something.

So I had my annual check-up today. Things were going pretty well (I lost 10 pounds since my last visit...w00t) until the doctor had to check...the "stuff".

He noted some differences between the two and I quote "...Just to be safe...I'm going to write you up for an ultrasound".

I am scheduled to go in Tuesday. I am so nervous right now (and it's only friday) because of the "what if I have..." stuff and the fact that I have never had a testicular ultrasound before. Like my Shoddy and Smash games were WAY off today after the doc's appointment.

Any of you guys (or girls) had to get tested for something or had a procedure done? How'd you get over the nervousness part?

My friend just had this done and it was a blood growth or something relatively harmless. I'm not saying that this will always be the case for everyone but don't psyche your self out. Do your homework for sure though so you know how to handle the worst news with the best attitude and knowledge. If I was ever diagnosed with any form of Cancer I would hop my ass right over to Mexico. Our health care companies are shutting down there cancer treatment centers because they not only a better job, but they don't use kemo. Kemo of course = $$$$$$$$$$ for health care companies. But thats just what I would do.

Don't let your nervousness get the best of you though. If I was you I'd light some incense, pick up a guitar and just zone out for a bit.

I'm sorry to hear the Brawlex, and best of luck blackbowser.

I've been tested for bowel diseases before and had to undergo a coloscopy (basically, they stick a stube with a camera up your backside.) I was under twilight anaesthesia, but I had to ingest fuckloads of laxative the day before. It's not pretty.

They found out I have ulcerative colitis, so now I am stuck with a chronic inflammatory bowel disease! :(

Once I had some real bad coughing, which was suspected to be asthma.
It wasn't, nor was it Pneumonia or any other chronic lung disease. I'm just happy it wasn't cancer, but exposure to some shit at work. Since then I quit my old job, and have no plans to start smoking. Your lungs are one of your most important organs, after all.

But the testing was the scariest part. I had no clue what I had, but Hearing my Lung were okay was the best part. So BSB, I have a gut feeling that you'll be okay. Hearing negative opinions is the last thing you need before this.

Lol, there shouldn't be much to worry about testicular ultrasounds.
As a medical student, its fascinating about how much people get worked up over a small procedure!

Its quite common for a guy's testicles to be different sizes, as it is for a girl's breasts to be different sizes. I think that in this case your doctor is just being thorough, more to cover his ass in case there was anything he missed!

I'd be more worried if you had constant and chronic testicular pain. Many men have various lumps and bumps on their testicles, which can range from harmless benign growths to normal structures including your epididymis, epididymal cysts, and hydrocoeles.
Just assure yourself that its MUCH more likely to be nothing, than to be anything of clinical significance.

Numerous STD tests [honestly, the doctors at my local surgery are ridiculously stupid], invasive and unpleasant [it's alright for you guys!]
I don't know how invasive testicular ultrasounds are.. but my only advice would be to make sure you've got something pleasant lined up for you afterwards.
The waiting is in many ways the worst part.. and there's very little you can do about that, unfortunately..

Hell yeah dude, I had to get an ultra sound "there" and lets just say it wasnt good. :(

I am sorry to hear that man.

best of luck blackbowser

Thanks bro.

Holy shit (no pun intended) dude. That sucks!

Thanks man. But yea it's not the test I'm worried about, but the results of the test.

I did not know that! The doctor said one of the testicles was "a little smaller" than the other one. He did ask me if I felt pain while he was checking. Other than the shock factor and the fact that balls are sensitive...no, no sharp pain. I've never had any pain down there (well..except for getting hit down there...but that subsides quickly).

I don't know how invasive testicular ultrasounds are.. but my only advice would be to make sure you've got something pleasant lined up for you afterwards.

They aren't too evasive from what I hear. I simply just have to undress from the waist down. They put a gel on it and then proceed to ultrasound it (I think the hardest part will be keeping still) They have to keep the penis away though...just in case.

But yea waiting is the worst part of it all.

Thanks for all your input guys! It's calming me down a bit (last night I had trouble sleeping...I got up at like 8AM today which is early considering on Saturdays I get up at noon).

I've never had anything like that before but I sure do know how horrendous the waiting is. Try to chill out and don't think much about it, it's probably going to be a routine test anyway. And even if they find something, an early diagnosis is preferable and could save your ass. In this case your nuts.

I had one of my breast tested for somethi7ng odd. The nurse practitioner didnt know what it was but knew it wasnt bad. The problem persisted and a year later I went to the doctor and it was still annoying me and he had was able to tell me that it was and sent me to a specialist. The specialist set me up to have a sugary to fix the problem. Had the sugary, problem was fixed, 4 months or so later the problem popped back up again. Further sugary would fix the problem but leave my boob kinda weird, so I gave up and I just live with it.

With the testing prior to the sugary they called me and told me the counts on my liver were high and that it might be a concern. I went for a second test later and all was fine, something must have happened to my liver while i was having the worst cold i had ever had right before the blood test. Got worried for nothing.

w00t 400 post!

Well sorry for not posting an update, but I had the ultrasound about 2 hours ago. I had seen a urologist a few days back...downplayed a lot of what my physcian said...stating he didn't notice anything but my history raised a few yellow flags (as in my risk for cancer rose...slightly), so I still got it done.

I get my results by Tuesday. After reading what you guys said and what my urologist said...I'm a lot more confident.

Yeah, I've been tested for tons of things. Seems like every time I go to the doctor they want to do an MRI or blood tests or something and they'll get me all worked up over some possible problem that I might have. The best was a blood clot in my brain. That was exciting.

And then I get the tests and nothing's wrong. So I've hit the point where when they say, "We want to test you for the kuru," or whatever I don't even worry anymore.

Hey, hope your tests turn out okay. I bet they will.

I remember being shit-scared by doctors. I used to be tongue tied, and they had to cut up the bottom of my mouth. I wasn't scared about the operation, but the doctor who was performing the operation had huge hands. And the anesthesiologist kept hitting on my mum, which pissed me off. Anyway, the important thing is to just chill out as much as you can, chew some gum, go for a walk, do what you can. And I agree with akuchi, go to a movie or something good afterwards.

Hope everything is sweet as BSB. :)

Cysts aren't necessarily bad. Most of the time they're harmless, though they can be caused by a tumor. However, you'd know if you had a tumor, so they're probably benign.

Well I got my report and it seems I'm fine:

I have what is called a spermatocele. harmless for the most part. If they grow...then I could experience some pain...so I guess they'll just monitor them.

I'm so relieved though!

<@Vincent> yeah, got a new job yesterday, have a week off until I start
<+atlas> she poured water on her head

<@Vincent> hey what if she's female

<@Brain> the "oh, nice" wasn't directed at the medical test
<@Vincent> haha
<@Brain> unless she is female and hot, but come on, how likely is that
<@Vincent> I dont know
<@Vincent> Im starting to hope for that odd now
<@Brain> you'll have your balls groped by a middle aged rotund bald man

Just posting the log and saying that I'm glad it's nothing too serious, and I hope for the best in your future ;).

Aww, you'e an early parent - something is feeding off of you, regardless of how much you want

Consider it like you're pregnant - Only that you have 10 or 20 babies feeding off of you at the same time. And, they never look cute and cuddly.

At least its not testicular cancer - it usually kills between the ages of 22 and 27.

I got a blood test and the doctor said they found traces of "drugs" . But later on i found out my mom told him to say that so she could force the truth out of me. Long story short she found out I used drugs :(

Having two parents in the medical profession, one a cardiologist, I'm going to call bullshit that your doctor was told by your mommy to lie about finding "drugs" in your blood test, I'm pretty sure it's illegal to intentionally report erroneous results to a patient.
Ok.. why would I lie about this. I'm talking about the school districts doctor, that I had to go get a physical from to join football. I was told by other students that they were asked if they did drugs but not accused of them being in their bloodstream.

EDIT:

I find it really funny you use the word mommy.

If he said it, then he found it in the test, he's not lying for your mommy unless he's not a real M.D. which might be the case. You made it sound like he lied to squeeze the truth out of you.
