Viability Ranking Just for Gods​

Remember that this is the Viability Ranking for Gods, NOT Followers.

How god ranking works

The ranking is based on:

1. How good the stats are that the God Pokemon gives. This affects your team synergy and capabilities.
2. How well the God Pokemon performs by itself in general.

Point #1 is more valuable than #2, though #2 is still a pretty big factor when deciding upon a God Pokemon's ranking.

Also since the number of potential gods is not high, there will be no subranks like A+ or A-. There will be only S, A, B, C, D, and Ubers that you shouldn't use as ranks. Each rank is listed alphabetically.

With torch song and a solid stab combo I believe a case can be made for using Skeledirge in speed. When used with fast gods like Kirai/Mirai or Zac/Zama, Skeledirge outspeeds almost everything in the tier and can be a very effective wincon after a spa boost or two.
Throat Spray gives it a little more power on more offensive teams, but otherwise heavy duty boots is the item of choice. Shadow Ball hits stuff that resists torch song, while earth power is to break fires. The main purpose of flame charge is to outspeed zac and it's speed receivers, but you can run slack off for longevity if you want. Even without any investment, dirge is still pretty bulky and can even 1v1 zac due to unaware. All in all I think that dirge is a very solid choice for the speed slot and the viability list should reflect that.

Nominating Diancie to Low Rank as a God.

Diancie functions much the same as it did last gen-- donating massive defensive stats, usable dump slots in Attack and Special Attack, and a low speed stat for slow, bulky pivots. A slow speed slot is useful for pivots like Corviknight and Landorus-T, and any Pokemon can become a valuable defensive piece with a massive 150 defensive stat. Diancie itself can run a few viable sets as well-- hazards, calm mind + dstorm, restochesto, etc. Diancie is inferior to many gods outside of its niche, but this niche is a valuable one and deserves to be mentioned.

hello i wanna do VR noms

Normceus -> Lower (i would argue B but I also know that is not a common take so A would suffice)

Arceus is like, really good. donating passable stats across the board is amazing in a tier like this where so many of the best mons just want that lil increase in their stats. However, these more balanced stats leads arceus teams to usually end up being...balance (shocking, I know.) Which just arent teams that I think EKiller fits on. While other normceus sets can be run with just the niche "oh its arceus but has an actual item" idt that's good enough to put it above guys like Ghost or Fairceus which possess actual notable niches.

Giratina -> B

Tina stall is really good, 150/120/120 bulk is fantastic to pass for unruly fat builds. Fat in this tier is so obscenely consistent because there's just so many mons that become so good with bulk increases, Alo, Clod, Clef, Skarm, Pech, Dirge, Dozo and Corv come to mind, being able to enable these 2 and donate passable (if underwhelming) spa/speed to other goons definitely makes giratina stall a stand out archetype in this tier, and as such it should be higher

Sneasler -> A/A-

I think this mon never does anything, Sure its a nice dump slot on offenses but if you're running gterrain HO I'm like 90% certain there's a mon you'd rather have in attack then this guy, such huge opportunity cost.

also -> A+

this thing just never fucking dies lmfao, slot it into spdef and it is gnna just be fat and heal up ur team and not be passive thanks to pivot + scald. Its also just, deviously customizable with being able to run a plethora of items, as well as a ton of different move options; all you truly need is scald, flip turn and wish. Mirror coat, Acrobatics, Play Rough are all options I've at least considered in the past.

tran -> A- / B+

I have never, ever considered using this mon. i don't think it provides enough value to a team to give up hp/speed (which IMO are the two most valuable slots), its just very weird and I cannot think of a reason to run it other than being 5 mons deep into a build and going "fuck I lose to sun and also I don't have rocks and also I don't have a fairy resist"

skarm -> A+

Very good HP receiver, very good on fat. not much more I can say

also I don't feel as s strongly about these but I do think that all of washtom/helec/hatt should rise a subrank

dozo -> A-

this thing is a borderline instawin into zacian-c comps, very fat and very good I love it

I've you watched seasonal or ompl games, you've seen talon rain. its such a fucked up archetype and it borderline auto wins against certain teamcomps / forces them to run unsets, making them worse. idt you can even call it mu fishy atp bc its so consistently good (albeit not quite broken, I don't think)

I just think its a very good dump mon, might be the GOAT for it? dunno. anyways rocks are broken salt cure is broken psalt is broken being a flying/fire resist that fits on fat/offense is broken

clef -> A-

Cmon guys, this is clefable we're talking about, why is he in the B tier? I think in this tier being hazard immune + knock absorbant while having a crazy good list of moves it can run makes it niche enough to run

Nominating Indeedee-M to be much higher than C, maybe B+ or even A-

Not only does it effortlessly shut down Talonflame rain, with a scarf it outspeeds Zac-C speed donations and hits hard to boot. Forcing your opponent to swap to dark types to shut down massive expanding force spam is easily abusable too with pokemon like Zamazenta, Great Tusk, and Iron Hands all appreciating the hard swap and the shut down of prio Hurricanes/other priority moves.

Not even mentioning of course how powerful psychic terrain is in general for your setup sweepers.

I would like to nominate Sinistcha to B+ or A-, I don't know why it's unranked (probably just bc it's dlc2) but I think it's got a pretty great combination of traits that make it pretty good into the tier. Grass definitely has it's weaknesses defensively but I think Sinistcha being a bulky Grass-type is pretty good as it allows it to defend against Ogerpon-W, regular Ogerpon amd Cornerstone too, Rillaboom, Urshifu-R, Great Tusk, and even non tera ice Helectrode if it has a calm mind. It's also immune to espeed and resists ekillers most common coverage move eq so there's that. Speaking of calm mind, Sinistcha is a pretty good user of it as it has decent spa and a STAB combo that's resisted by like 3 mons (lokix, meowscarada, rmoon) but all of them don't want to get burned anyway. It also gets what is basically scald and giga drain in one moveslot and the best recovery move in the game (imo) in strength sap. Not to say it isn't without weaknesses tho. Ghost typing is a bit of a double edged sword as it makes it weak to Dark, and a lot of the things Sinistcha wants to check carry Knock Off, and the tier just has a lot of Darks in it in general (Weavile, Meowscarada, Samurott-H, RMoon) that force Sinistcha out and can put an end to it's calm mind shenanigans. Grass also gives it an ice weakness which prevents it from walling Iron Hands because of ice punch, which it could otherwise wall with just it's typing. It also needs a few turns to setup cm to really get going and if it were to forgo cm, it doesn't get any pivoting moves so it can feel like a momentum drain at times. But I think despite this Sinistcha is pretty solid into a lot of top mons and deserves to be at least mid tier.
I don't have any replays rn and I'm on mobile so I don't feel like running calcs, but I can edit those in later.

hey guys, i wanted to push council to do a vr update before open (edit i procrastinated on making this post for so long that someone else bought it up, so like its happening soon:tm:. so outside of discussing with my other council members i wanted to post some noms i believe in strongly in public. i encourage others, especially those that play the tier alot and arent on council (wsg XYStarshine Atha) to post their own noms as well :D

lengthier post but ill be going in the order of god rises -> god drops -> receiver rises -> reciver drops

ho-oh -> S

Easily the third best god in the tier at the moment, i believe it should join etern and ghosty in the S rank to show that. Many of the tiers most annoying pokemon in the builder are special attackers, whether thats Arceus-Ghost, Etern, Kyurem-W or Lando-I theres always gonna be some fuckass special breaker giving you a headache in the builder. Ho-Oh balance is about the most consistent you can get against these kinds of archetypes as not only is ho-oh an excellent spdef wall in itself but it donates a MASSIVE 154 spdef stat to a secondary spdef mon that can help shore up its weaknesses (personally ive been liking dondozo the most, but any of our generically good spdef mons works here). Tera further allows it to flip the script on guys like Kyogre and Helectrode as needed, this thing is by far the most consistent spdef mon in the tier. Outside of its amazing spdef dono its also the tiers best Regenerator pokemon and between being hard to swap into between brave bird and sacfire and having whirlwind to dissuade set up attempts (which is fantastic when youre naturally bulky to live basically any one hit) and ho-oh makes itself such a strong keystone on balance that i rarely try other balance comps anymore. Progress making demon, amazing antibullshit tools and enables crazy annoying bulky comps, this chicken has well earned its S-rank if you ask me.

Waterceus -> A

Its..unranked for some reason? Anyways, fantastic bulky water that ontop of donating arceus stat spread can also act as a fantastic intrim check to many of the tiers best attackers; wonderful utility and a spammable judgement just put the cherry on top. Personally i think waterceus' best usecase over other formes is as a rocks setter with strong offensive pressure against tusk and corv.

Anyways i think every arceus should be in D Rank to show that, while useable-- theyre good. the outliars here would be Electric and Poison as i believe they have distinct enough usecases to be considered C-rank


Lunala -> C

This thing was mainly good on webs and with that archetype being so much worse with the araq ban i really dont see it sticking out from the other C Rank Gods.

dengo -> A

Its been in the tier for a while, and it feels like an A mon to me. Obviously good on Hstack offenses and fats, nice defensive profile while also being somewhat easily answered both offensively and defensively. It isnt anything crazy but its a very formidable guy.

ting-lu -> S

Just go re-read YNWO. This thing is such a progress hindering demon, fat to an unruly degree and can do just about anything you want it to. yes we know spdef is good but recently ive been toying around with the idea of fast taunt sets in the speed slot; heres a team I built for HFA and barely got to use, but am a huge fan of that showcases this set on a fun high octane offense

Zama -> A+

It hits hard and does alot of things very well, good scarfer, good CB Breaker, Good Lorb guy, IdefPress has seen a rise as well which i think is cool. Zama fits very well on caly-i and ndm teams as a attack receiver and its huge stats all around makes it very threatening if you get sloppy against it. Theres also other utility sets ive seen running around like boots roar or even screens. Strong Dawg fits more with the A+ guys than the A shitters IMO

Clod -> A+

A mon i started mainly using as it was one of the tiers most splashable Iron Hands checks, but discovered it was fantastic into everything. High HP and Spdef alongside unaware and amazing progress making tools like Toxic and Hazards makes sure this thing is guranteed to give you tempo and shut down the opponent. Fantastic check to mostly everything and if you give it a defense stat over 100 and use 30 seconds of timer to think then killing this thing should be a real hard task for your opponent, it also fits on alot of teams not just stall. Def room to experiment with clod as stuff like curse, counter and tspikes are all very useable.

Ceruledge -> ALOT higher

In the most recent seasonal; both of the very handsome finalists bought ceruledge atleast once. It is a very hard to swap into pokemon as polt + bitterblade doesnt rlly have any good switch ins. Between defensive to synergize with weak armor, speed to make weak armor either unesscery or hit like crack, and the HP bulky stuff á la DP, it has alot of set variety. No matter what set you run those poltergeists are gonna hit like crack though, i genuinely think this is like an A- mon but i would settle for B+.

weezing-g -> B+

Its a defogger that benefits from gholdengo being in the tier idk its not deeper than that mon js got better

sun mons -> B

idk lol sun is good put the sun mons with hisuigant who is in B

pecharunt -> A

This one is a pmd sprite bc i got bored of writing this post and wanted to spice things up. Anyways i just dont think Pecharunt really is A+ material. Ideally it wants to be a hp slot but it has such awkward synergy with all our best high HP gods (etern, giratina). You usually see it on kyurem-W teams but i feel like id rather run a HP slot that brings either removal or hazards to the table alot of the time on those teams. Obviously it is still very good but i just think it is so awkard to make work that it generally isnt worth it alot of the time: god forbid you run into np gholdengo bc then youre just a victim

Mandibuzz -> Genuinely drop it to like B this on is horrendous

Dogshit mon that feels awkward to use all the time, it is neither splashable nor potent enough to be used on a wide variety of teams, faces stiff competition in all its niches, has incredible 4mss as it cant fit all of foul play, toxic, defog, u-turn, knock off, whirlwind. HOWEVER it does bring fantastic role compression and a Dark-type with Toxic is always gonna be welcomed in a tier with ghostceus. also np sets are super shiest yall gotta start using that over fraud ass goltres BRO ITCANT EVEN HIT ZACIAN-C MANDI HAS HEAT WAVE

Excadrill -> B

Honestly i can see an argument for this dropping even lower, it is just such an awkward pokemon to use that i cant imagine why youd ever use it. The tier is basically overran with spdef ground-types not to mention that it directly competes with the niche of ground-type removal with treads and tusk; both of which do its job way better than it. It doesnt really beat anything that other grounds/steels dont beat either, and a steel type that gets fodderized by zacian is never gonna be good, very bad pokemon that should never see usage outside of sand which is in and of itself a very mediocre Archetype.

Ogerpon-C -> Lower

Put it in like B+ or B, its worse than all of the other A- mons and has veyr little usecase, especially with the opportunity cost of not being able to run wellspring or regular oger.


Zapdos -> Lower, im thinkin B

Idk its just not that good, i rarely find myself using it and it doesnt do anything that other fliers or electrics dont. Rotom-W is fucking fantastic and both moltres and tornadus stocks have been rising. Static fishing is dope tho and it is a good zacian check.

Tinkaton -> B+

Awkward mon that faces alot of competion. Its a utility demon, with no recovery. SD gigaton hammer sets are cool, but easily revengekilled by faster breakers like Lando-I or Zama. I do value its defensive utility and see its usecases but 90% of the time id rather use clefable or zacian

Rotom-H -> B-

Our C-ranks are hideiously bloated, while GG does have LARGE amount of "viable" pokemon due to the nature of the tier, i do not think that every single pokemon you can "technically use" needs to be ranked. These are just some of the worst offenders i noticed that fill one of the following criteria:

-hasnt been used in a game ever
-is strictly outclassed by another, better pokemon (conk and urshifu, quagsire and clodsire, kilowattrel and zapdos.
-has no theoretical niche that makes it worth using (sylveon, terrakion, bonnet)

If you have used anything in this tier to even a modicum of success, please lmk and i will fight diligently for its place on the VR.
