Gods and Monsters *An Uber Warstory*

After just dropping out of the "Nightmare before Christmas" Tourney, my first on Smogon and first Tourney ever, I decided to look through some of my old logs for a warstory. The Tourney while fun, had nothing on a very tight match between me and Gouki, several weeks ago. This Warstory took place around the same time as my match against Jeb.

Gouki had kicked my ass hard, the last time we thought, so i decided to give him a little payback. LET THE BATTLE BEGIN!!

Train Man's Team of Technicolour:Also, in no particular order:

*Groudon*...... *Dialga*....... *Ho-oh*....... *Giratina*......*Registeel*......*Mewtwo*

Gouki's Team of Gods and Monsters:In no particular order:

Nicknamed.
*Groudon*..... *Giratina*...... *Blissey.... *Ghost Arceus*... *Forretress*... *Latias*.

Rules: Evasion Clause, Freeze Clause, OHKO Clause, Sleep Clause, Species Clause, Strict Damage Clause.

A latias lead spells certain doom for any Groudon, especially one with Fire Punch over Dragon Claw. I switch to my Special Wall to absorb the hit and spread some Status effects.

Registeel is completely walled by Forretress. Can't be Toxic'd, doesn't care about T-wave, resists Explosion and can spin away my Stealth Rocks. I switch in my Ho-oh to rid the field of this mechanical bug-beast.

Even without a spinner, my Team can take T-Spikes and Stealth Rock fairly well. However, Ho-oh's days are sealed now that Stealth Rock is up. I use Sacred Fire hoping to hit anything but a Giratina.

I try to switch in my Mixed Dialga, but predicting my switch he Roar's me out unleashing my Mewtwo. Not Bad, as Mewtwo runs a wall-breaker set, and thus far, all i've really seen is 2 walls and a bulky sweeper. I taunt hoping for a Blissey switch-in.

Well, that worked nicely. Most Blissey's run Thunder and Ice Beam. Thunder accuracy is haxxed, quite nicely by Sunny Day and Ice Beam does pathetic damage after a few Calm Minds. I wonder where all his sweepers are but blissfully CM knowing that the fat pink egg can't touch me.

I learnt my mistake from my Battle with Jeb. Whilst Groudon doesn't have the greatest SpDef in the world, a non-STAB 90 Base Power move does shit to the Land Beast. I flee, and to my own Undead caterpillar to take the incoming Earthquake.

Blast that Mechanical Bug!! Both my walls can't touch it, giving it free time to setup. What now? T-spikes or regular Spikes. Toxic Spikes would actually benefit me more, in the switch-heavy Uber Metagame. Not to mention I have 3 Pokemon immune to T-Spikes as well as Giratina having rest.

With 1 layer of Toxic Spikes down, I realize that Groudon and his Life Orb might not get a long sweeping life. Mewtwo might still has a chance to stat-up and take some things down. * Giratina's life or unlife, was wasted.

Thanks for Reading and Merry Christmas!

Another ubers warstory that makes me want to play in that metagame, and makes me regret SRing for a Quiet Dilaga... :( Also, I think that if Yanmega can be EV'd/IV'd to take two SRs and live, I think Ho-oh could be, unless I'm missing something. I think it requires an odd HP stat.

That was a brilliant battle and read, I really enjoyed it!

This shows just how awesome the Uber metagame can be.

Nice job to both of you, and thanks for taking the time to write this Train Man!

Ubers can be fun, but I find the limited number of uber pokemon rather hurts its playability. Plus the constant Pressure ability gets annoying afer a while. Which is why it's so refreshing to have UU/BL pokes in ubers (Rain Dance/Sunny Day support.)

Anyway, good match.

Okay, I guess I'll post here too.

Yeah, this is a pretty good war story, even better than your last one imo (I wonder why). gg TM, my team was pretty weak to mixialga, and it showed. I still haven't found a good counter not named Deoxys-L =(
Gouki has the exact team as mine
lol this is the exact reason I stopped using this team. I wish I never found out about that...

Toxic/Thunder Wave/Stealth Rocks/Explosion as a Registeel set seems like it's missing something. Iron Head or Ice Punch should be present IMO for Mewtwo/Deoxys and Rayquaza respectively. But nice warstory. When I first saw Mixed Dialga I immediately thought "Special Sweeper with Brick Break slapped on", but it seems to be working very well.

Awesome warstory! More info on the Mixed Dialga would be nice, seems like a good innovative set.

Why did you drop from the tournament?

The mixed Dialga set is in the analysis I believe. I think it's Draco Meteor / Fire Blast / Brick Break / Shadow Claw @ Life Orb with a Quiet Nature, but I'm not positive.

Thunder > Shadow Claw on this set (well according to the analysis/me anyways). Mild is always another option if Giratina's a problem (I don't feel so bad saving on a Mild Dialga now!).

Just came back from camping, Thanks for all the kind comments. To answer some questions:

MysteriousStallion - I'll just post the EVs here.

MY MixIalga - 252 SpAtk / 212 Atk / 40 Speed. 212 Atk allows you to kill of the most defensive Blisseys around as well as dealing more damage to Darkrai and other Dialga (Though, it's still a 2HKO on both, IIRC).

As for the speed it outpaces, Jolly TTars and Groudons that have been EV'd to outspeed the same Jolly TTars. Also outspeeds Bulky Groudons(More than 36 EVs in Speed for a Groudon lessens the chance of surviving Rayquaza's DD'd Outrages).

Blue Kirby - Thanks for the praise. But i've run dry on Uber Warstories. I do have a pretty good OU story against PabloMeza though...
Larvitar Star - Thanks!
Davy - lol, i'm using your Registeel for the real-world WiFi version of the Team. It does rock, hard.

Jibaku - Can you PM me the IVs of your Mild Dialga? And possibly trade me a copy for something in my Trade Thread? Worth asking, lol.

~ Cynthia ~ - Yeah, there are actually quite a few UUs and BLs that can be used more effectively in the Ubers Tier than any other. Shedinja springs to mind.

Dirty Birdy - Thanks, and yes, I wanted a more dramatic ending rather than stale ol' toxistalling. Every warstory needs a little Kaboom.
sa17dk - Thanks for the comment!
Palkia429 - There's a decent MixIalga in my Thread (shameless plug) though if you want an anaylsis-based one, Kamikaen and Pride have Quiet ones.

ChouToshio - Mewtwo is still my favourite Uber, lol. Ever since RBY, i've never felt that sense of grandeur towards a pokemon. But then again, back then i'd use Sweeping Golems and Tanking Zams!
Gouki - lol, thanks for posting. Cresselia can also make a decent Counter to MixIalga. Or if catches a stray Will-o-Wisp, Blissey makes short work of it.

Stoo99 - Thanks, Ubers is very fun and a refreshing change from Today's OU Metagame. Very stall-centric since the release of Obi's team, though there is still some fun to be had.
Sandman - lol, i'd be surprised if a rise in MixIalga's saw a surge of Deoxys-D usage. ShadowYoshiX would be mighty pleased, owning one of the best Careful Deoxys on Smogon.

Blaziken 57 - MixIalga was a quiet little revolution in Stall-breaking in Ubers. I found it, one evening whilst browsing through the Create-a-moveset/spread Thread. Now it's up in the analysis though, so it should be pretty easy to get the Information.
PabloMeza - Check the analysis for the standard MixIalga. Meant to be used as a bulky and slow mixed attacker. I dropped from the Tournament in (hax-free, simply outplayed) match against MysteriousStallion. 1-0, grrr.

Sovereign - Thanks for posting.
