Will: So, why do you think I should mod OU?
Hogg: Well, you'd be posting on the cutting edge. Posting threads you couldn't post anywhere else because we've classified them. G-max banning posts, viability rankings, victim of the week...
Will: suspect test thread titles
Hogg: well, that's one aspect of what we do
Will: I mean, come on, that IS what you do. You guys handle 80% of the website's music puns. You get 7 times as many likes as the rest of the forum.
Hogg: We don't like to brag about that, Will, but you're exactly right. So, the way I see it, the question isn't "why should you mod OU", the question is "why shouldn't you"?
Will: Why shouldn't I moderate OU....that's a tough one! But I think I'll take a shot.
Say I'm moderating OU. Somebody PMs me a suspect to test, something nobody else can post. Maybe I take a shot at it and maybe I post it. And I'm real happy with myself, cause I did my job well, I get 240 likes for it. But maybe that suspect was the name of a highly used Pokemon in SM OU, like Dracovish or Cinderace. Once they have that suspect thread, they votebomb the suspect round where the Pokemon was being used and a Pokemon I never used, never had no problem with, gets banned. Now the supermods are saying, "Oh, suspect the next S ranked threat to stabilize the metagame" cause they don't give a shit. It won't be their favorite starter over there, being suspected. Just like it wasn't them when their PS room got shut down cause they were pulling a tour posting in Smogoff. It'll be some analysis writer from C&C getting harassment from Blaziken fans in the lobby.
And he comes back to find that the analysis he used to write got exported to the users he just got back from muting in lobby. And the guy who put the harassment in his PMs got his old job, cause he'll write fifteen analyses a day for no contributor badge. Meanwhile, he realizes the only reason he was posting this suspect thread in the first place was so we could rally up the smogon haters to make videos on how we're all ruining the metagame. And, of course, the super moderators used the skirmish over on YouTube to direct traffic to the OU forum and generate some likes on their announcement thread. A cute little ancillary benefit for them, but it ain't helping my buddy at two likes per GP check.
And they're taking their sweet time getting these analyses written, of course, and maybe even took the liberty of hiring an alcoholic moderator who likes to drink martinis and fucking play slalom with the SCMS uploads, and it ain't too long til he hits the wrong button on the merge request, crashes the SCMS and erases all the analysis for a tier. So now my buddy's out of badges and he can't afford his internet connection, so he's gotta write his tournament moves and send them by carrier pidgeon, which sucks cause the analyses he wrote are giving him carpel tunnel. And meanwhile he's starving for new tournament teams, cause every time he tries to read the smogdex for new sets the only threat they've got listed is UU Kabutops.
So what did I think? I'm holding out for something better.
I figure fuck it, while I'm at it why not just ban my buddy, take his analyses, give them to his sworn enemy, hike up the contributor badge requirements, ban Dracovish, erase the smogdex, hit the hash pipe and become a Smogoff mod?
I could be elected administrator.
