Goodstuff Stuff

Hello everyone,

I battled with this team since a few months and I thought I could show it to you guys and maybe get some advices for improving it.

(I should mention that english is not my first language)

Movesets

248.gif

Tea Time (Tyranitar) (M) @ Chople Berry
Trait: Sand Stream
Shiny: Yes
EVs: 252 HP / 252 Atk / 4 SDef
Brave Nature
IVs: 0 Spd
- Rock Slide
- Crunch
- Low Kick
- Protect

This is pretty standard. Tyranitar helps against Trick Room-Teams since it can hit most of the Trick Room introducers for super effective damage with Crunch and Tyranitar is very slow itself. Also it 2HKO's standard Cresselia which is very common and can be very annoying.

423.gif

Spongeroo (Gastrodon) (M) @ Rindo Berry
Trait: Storm Drain
EVs: 252 HP / 252 SAtk / 4 SDef
Quiet Nature
IVs: 0 Spd
- Scald
- Ice Beam
- Earth Power
- Protect

Gastrodon is my main check against rain-teams because there are still people who think that they can just spam Surf and win even if there is a Gastrodon in the opposing team. Apart from that it is my second check for Trick Room-teams. It is very slow and can deal with some Trick Room abusers that Tyranitar doesn't want to face like Rhyperior.

212.gif

Red Bullet (Scizor) (M) @ Flying Gem
Trait: Technician
EVs: 200 HP / 252 Atk / 56 Spd
Adamant Nature
- Bug Bite
- Bullet Punch
- Acrobatics
- Protect

There is really not that much I can say about Scizor... My Scizor runs enough speed to outspeed standard Hitmontop and Flying Gem boosted Acrobatics has a 50% chance of OHKOing Hitmontop even after Intimidate. It also helps to take out opposing Tyranitars and Cresselias (which means that it deals super effective damage against three of the most common Pokemon in VGCs).

381.gif

Mainstream (Latios) (M) @ Dragon Gem
Trait: Levitate
EVs: 4 HP / 252 SAtk / 252 Spd
Timid Nature
- Dragon Pulse
- Psychic
- Substitute
- Protect

I don't think that I want to change anything about this Latios. I have Dragon Pulse over Draco Meteor because I think that it really isn't a good idea to lower your SAtk and force yourself to switch out (which can be really cruel in VGC). I have Psychic over Psyshock because it has a chance of OHKOing Conkeldurr (not common but very threatening to my team) and Terrakion (as long as you aren't in sandstorm). Substitute is very handy against Hitmontops and slower dragons. You can set up a Substitute when your oppenent uses Sucker Punch and KO Hitmontop in the next turn with Psychic. It also helps against the Garchomp/Cresselia-Combo. You can set up a Substitue when your opponent uses Protect with Garchomp and Icy Wind with Cresselia (which doesn't break Latios Substitute).

392.gif
Sarutobi (Infernape) (M) @ Focus Sash
Trait: Blaze
EVs: 116 Atk / 140 SAtk / 252 Spd
Naive Nature
- Overheat
- Close Combat
- Fake Out
- Protect

WHAT? Infernape with Focus Sash with a Tyranitar on the same team? Yes. I never really regretted this in any battle since it doesn't make that much sense to have them in the battle at the same time. The only case where I would like to have Life Orb over Focus Sash is when I'm up against Tyranitar with Chople Berry. Apart from that Infernape is great in combination with Latios. It can deal with Pokemon like Scizor and Metagross which Latios is threatened by. There is no Pokemon which resists dragon, fire and fighting.

642.gif

Not Fine (Thundurus) (M) @ Sitrus Berry
Trait: Prankster
EVs: 252 HP / 252 SAtk / 4 Spd
Modest Nature
- Thunderbolt
- Thunder Wave
- Taunt
- Protect

Thundurus is my second check for rain-teams. It can paralyze Swift Swim abusers like Ludicolo and Kingdra and it deals super effective dammage to Politoed. Thundurus also helps against Trick Room-teams since it can shut down the Trick Room introducer with Taunt. Taunt also helps against gimmicks like Minimize-Chansey, Skill Swap+Slaking, scarfed Breloom, etc. (You might consider this as an invalid point for a serious VGC-team but trust me: You don't want to get beaten by Minimize-Chansey).

How I deal with cetain teams

Rain
186.png
272.png
230.png
454.png

I can change the weather with Tyranitar, I can paralyze Swift Swim abusers and deal super effective damage to Politoed with Thundurus and I can stop my opponent from spamming Surf with Gastrodon. The biggest threat on rain teams are Ludicolo since it can deal super effective damage to all my answers to rain and steel types like Scizor and Metagross (which every rain team should have) since I can't use Infernape that careless in rain (fire attacks are weakened and Infernape is weak to water).

Hail
460.png
479c.png
485.png
423.png

Scizor and Infernape can deal with all kinds of ice Pokemon, I can change the weather with Tyranitar. The biggest problem are random filler Pokemon, especially fighting types with Intimidate like Hitmontop since I have to rely on my physical attackers in order to beat hail teams.

Sand
248.png
472.png
530.png
145.png

Sand isn't that common anymore. However it is still very threatening. Since pretty much every sand abuser is weak to water or ice, Gastrodon is my most important Pokemon against Sand. Excadrill is the biggest threat since I can't paralyze it and I can't change the weather.

Sun
038.png
189.png
609.png
639.png

I can change the weather with Tyranitar, I can taunt Chlorophyll abusers to prevent them from putting my Pokemon to sleep and I can paralyze them with Thundurus (I can also taunt Ninetales to prevent it from Will-o-Whisping my Tyranitar). Latios can do work against the answers to Tyranitar like Terrakion or Marowak and it can deal massive damage to some Chlorophyll abusers since some of them are part poison types. The biggest threats on sun teams are the fighting and/or ground types (which every sun team should have).

Trick Room
488.png
560.png
591.png
593.png

Tyranitar can deal super effective damage to most of the Trick Room introducers, Thundurus can shut down Trick Room introducers with Taunt, Tyranitar and Gastrodon can do work against Trick Room teams even if Trick Room is up since they are very slow. Scizor can do very good against Scrafty and Hariyama since most opponents don't expect Acrobatics which means they don't use Fake Out on Scizor which means that I can get a kill at turn one.

Goodstuff
381.png
237.png
376.png
248.png

You can't really have a certain strategy against Goodstuff since there are way too many Pokemon which can be in a Goodstuff team. All I can say is that I have ways of dealing with the most common Pokemon like Cresselia, Hitmontop, Tyranitar, Garchomp, etc.

Gimmicks

TerraCott
639.png
547.png

Latios and Infernape can deal with this one. Fake Out on Whimsicott and Psychic on Terrakion. Next turn Overheat on Whimsicott and Psychic on Terrakion in case it used Protect at turn one. Most of the times the result of this matchup is that my opponent gets up Tailwind for the high price that Terrakion and Whimsicott get taken out at turn two.

Evasion

Taunt.

Unnecessary Headline

I tested this team on the VGC-ladder on Pokemon Showdown and I think I did pretty well (34 wins, 9 losses). If you think that I could change and improve something feel free to leave a comment. :]

Solid lineup, how's the 252 SpA on Thundurus working out?
I don't know if I get your question right ._.

If you are questioning my SpA-investment on Thundurus: Most battles in VGC are very short and you always have two different Pokemon on the opposing side. I just don't think that 252 HP / 252 (S)Def-sets can do much work in such a fast-paced metagame (apart from Cresselia and Trick Room introducers). Apart from that my team really needs a strong electric attack to hit bulky waters (uncommon but very annoying).

Is 252 SpA investment worth it with only 1 attacking move? You could add HP Ice/Flying or use Swagger with 252HP/136DEF/120SDEF

Not Fine (Thundurus) (M) @ Electric Gem
Trait: Prankster
EVs: 4 HP / 252 SAtk / 252 Spd
Timid Nature (+Spd, -Atk)
- Thunderbolt
- Hidden Power [Ice]

I used this set before. The only thing HP [Ice] was good against was Garchomp which carries Yache Berry most of the times. I have better things to hit ground and dragon types (Gastrodon+Latios).

As I said before I need a strong electric attack so I think the 252 SpA investment is necessary.

I really don't want to use Swagger. No offense but I never saw high ranked people using this move. Relying on hax is not the best strategy in the world.
